The Qos and Qm are two leading estimators of the probability of misclassification which are based on the asymptotic expansion of the the expected value of the Error Rate, Pi. The estimators are, however, not suitable for estimating the Error rates for certain ranges of the parameters p , n1, n2 and ß.We investigate the regions in which they produce unacceptable estimates , and show that the Qos is, in general, better than the Qm in producing acceptable estimates  相似文献

In this article, we consider the application of the empirical likelihood method to a partially linear single-index model. We focus on the case where some covariates are measured with additive errors. It is shown that the empirical log-likelihood ratio at the true parameter converges to the standard chi-square distribution. Simulations show that the proposed confidence region has coverage probability which is closer to the nominal level, as well as narrower than those of normal approximation method. In this article, a partially linear errors-in-variables model is considered, and empirical log-likelihood ratio statistic for the unknown parameter in the model is suggested. It is proved that the proposed statistic is asymptotically standard chi-square distribution under some suitable conditions, and hence it can be used to construct the confidence region of the parameter. A simulation study indicates that, in terms of coverage probabilities and average lengths of the confidence intervals, the proposed method performs better than the least-squares method.  相似文献

Diagnosis aids in addition to detecting the out-of-control state is an important issue in multivariate multiple linear regression profiles monitoring; because a large number of parameters and profiles in this structure are involved. In this paper, we specifically concentrate on identification of profile(s) and parameter(s) which have changed during the process in multivariate multiple linear regression profiles structure in Phase II. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approaches through Monte Carlo simulations and a real case study in terms of accuracy percent.  相似文献

Simultaneous confidence bands have been shown in the statistical literature as powerful inferential tools in univariate linear regression. While the methodology of simultaneous confidence bands for univariate linear regression has been extensively researched and well developed, no published work seems available for multivariate linear regression. This paper fills this gap by studying one particular simultaneous confidence band for multivariate linear regression. Because of the shape of the band, the word ‘tube’ is more pertinent and so will be used to replace the word ‘band’. It is shown that the construction of the tube is related to the distribution of the largest eigenvalue. A simulation‐based method is proposed to compute the 1 ? α quantile of this eigenvalue. With the computation power of modern computers, the simultaneous confidence tube can be computed fast and accurately. A real‐data example is used to illustrate the method, and many potential research problems have been pointed out.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of confidence band construction for a standard multiple linear regression model. An “independence point” method of construction is developed which generalizes the method of Gafarian (1964) for a simple linear regression model to a multiple linear regression model. Wynn (1984 Wynn , H. P. ( 1984 ). An exact confidence band for one-dimensional polynomial regression . Biometrika 71 : 3759 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) pioneered the approach of basing confidence bands for a polynomial regression on a set of nodes where the function estimates are independent, and this approach is exploited in this article. This method requires only critical points from t-distributions so that the confidence bands are easy to construct. Both one-sided and two-sided confidence bands can be constructed using this method. An illustration of the new method is provided, and comparisons are made with other procedures.  相似文献

Cox's discrete logistic model was extended to the study of the life table by Thompson (1977) to handle grouped survival data. Inferences about the effect of grouping are studies byMonte Carlo methods. The results show that the effect of grouping is not substantial. This approach is applied to the grouped data on liver cancer. In multiple comparisons of fixed effect parameters in linear mixed models, treatment effects can be reported as relative changes or ratios. Simultaneous confidence intervals for such ratios had been previously proposed based on Bonferroni adjustments or multivariate normal quantiles accounting for the correlation among the multiple contrasts. We propose Fieller-type intervals using multivariate t quantiles and the application of Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques to sample from the joint posterior distribution and construct percentile-based simultaneous intervals. The methods are compared in a simulation study including bioassay problems with random intercepts and slopes, repeated measurements designs, and multicenter clinical trials.  相似文献

The problems of interval estimating the mean, quantiles, and survival probability in a two-parameter exponential distribution are addressed. Distribution function of a pivotal quantity whose percentiles can be used to construct confidence limits for the mean and quantiles is derived. A simple approximate method of finding confidence intervals for the difference between two means and for the difference between two location parameters is also proposed. Monte Carlo evaluation studies indicate that the approximate confidence intervals are accurate even for small samples. The methods are illustrated using two examples.  相似文献

The methodology for deriving the exact confidence coefficient of some confidence intervals for a binomial proportion is proposed in Wang [2007. The methodology requires two conditions of confidence intervals: the monotone boundary property and the full coverage property. In a number of situations only observations that exceed or only those that fall below the current extreme value are recorded. Examples include meteorology, hydrology, athletic events and mining. Industrial stress testing is also an example in which only items that are weaker than all the observed items are destroyed. In this paper, it is shown that, how record values can be used to provide distribution-free confidence intervals for population quantiles and tolerance intervals. We provide some tables that help one choose the appropriate record values and present a numerical example. Also universal upper bounds for the expectation of the length of the confidence intervals are derived. The results may be of interest in situation where only record values are stored.  相似文献

Value at risk (VaR) and expected shortfall (ES) are widely used risk measures of the risk of loss on a specific portfolio of financial assets. Adjusted empirical likelihood (AEL) is an important non parametric likelihood method which is developed from empirical likelihood (EL). It can overcome the limitation of convex hull problems in EL. In this paper, we use AEL method to estimate confidence region for VaR and ES. Theoretically, we find that AEL has the same large sample statistical properties as EL, and guarantees solution to the estimating equations in EL. In addition, simulation results indicate that the coverage probabilities of the new confidence regions are higher than that of the original EL with the same level. These results show that the AEL estimation for VaR and ES deserves to recommend for the real applications.  相似文献

Kendall and Gehan estimating functions are commonly used to estimate the regression parameter in accelerated failure time model with censored observations in survival analysis. In this paper, we apply the jackknife empirical likelihood method to overcome the computation difficulty about interval estimation. A Wilks’ theorem of jackknife empirical likelihood for U-statistic type estimating equations is established, which is used to construct the confidence intervals for the regression parameter. We carry out an extensive simulation study to compare the Wald-type procedure, the empirical likelihood method, and the jackknife empirical likelihood method. The proposed jackknife empirical likelihood method has a better performance than the existing methods. We also use a real data set to compare the proposed methods.  相似文献

The problems of constructing tolerance intervals for the binomial and Poisson distributions are considered. Closed-form approximate equal-tailed tolerance intervals (that control percentages in both tails) are proposed for both distributions. Exact coverage probabilities and expected widths are evaluated for the proposed equal-tailed tolerance intervals and the existing intervals. Furthermore, an adjustment to the nominal confidence level is suggested so that an equal-tailed tolerance interval can be used as a tolerance interval which includes a specified proportion of the population, but does not necessarily control percentages in both tails. Comparison of such coverage-adjusted tolerance intervals with respect to coverage probabilities and expected widths indicates that the closed-form approximate tolerance intervals are comparable with others, and less conservative, with minimum coverage probabilities close to the nominal level in most cases. The approximate tolerance intervals are simple and easy to compute using a calculator, and they can be recommended for practical applications. The methods are illustrated using two practical examples.  相似文献

A likelihood ratio test is derived for comparing the performance potential of a subset of a population of financial assets to the performance potential of the entire population. The test is shown to be equivalent to a test for zero intercept in a multivariate normal regression model. Rao's F approximation to Wilks' Lamda is shown to be equivalent in this case to the conventional F test used to test the significance of a subset of regressors in a univariate multiple-regression model. The test is illustrated using a sample of returns from ten stocks from the New York Stock Exchange.  相似文献

A simultaneous confidence band provides useful information on the plausible range of an unknown regression model function, just as a confidence interval gives the plausible range of an unknown parameter. For a multiple linear regression model, confidence bands of different shapes, such as the hyperbolic band and the constant width band, can be constructed and the predictor variable region over which a confidence band is constructed can take various forms. One interesting but unsolved problem is to find the optimal (shape) confidence band over an ellipsoidal region χE under the Minimum Volume Confidence Set (MVCS) criterion of Liu and Hayter (2007 Liu, W., Hayter, A.J. This problem is challenging as it involves optimization over an unknown function that determines the shape of the confidence band over χE. As a step towards solving this difficult problem, in this paper, we introduce a family of confidence bands over χE, called the inner-hyperbolic bands, which includes the hyperbolic and constant-width bands as special cases. We then search for the optimal confidence band within this family under the MVCS criterion. The conclusion from this study is that the hyperbolic band is not optimal even within this family of inner-hyperbolic bands and so cannot be the overall optimal band. On the other hand, the constant width band can be optimal within the family of inner-hyperbolic bands when the region χE is small and so might be the overall optimal band.  相似文献
