A new distribution called the beta generalized exponential distribution is proposed. It includes the beta exponential and generalized exponential (GE) distributions as special cases. We provide a comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution. The density function can be expressed as a mixture of generalized exponential densities. This is important to obtain some mathematical properties of the new distribution in terms of the corresponding properties of the GE distribution. We derive the moment generating function (mgf) and the moments, thus generalizing some results in the literature. Expressions for the density, mgf and moments of the order statistics are also obtained. We discuss estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood and obtain the information matrix that is easily numerically determined. We observe in one application to a real skewed data set that this model is quite flexible and can be used effectively in analyzing positive data in place of the beta exponential and GE distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new bivariate distribution, namely bivariate alpha-skew-normal distribution. The proposed distribution is very flexible and capable of generalizing the univariate alpha-skew-normal distribution as its marginal component distributions; it features a probability density function with up to two modes and has the bivariate normal distribution as a special case. The joint moment generating function as well as the main moments are provided. Inference is based on a usual maximum-likelihood estimation approach. The asymptotic properties of the maximum-likelihood estimates are verified in light of a simulation study. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated in a real benchmark data.  相似文献

Abstract

A Marshall–Olkin variant of the Provost type gamma–Weibull probability distribution is being introduced in this paper. Some of its statistical functions and numerical characteristics among others characteristics function, moment generalizing function, central moments of real order are derived in the computational series expansion form and various illustrative special cases are discussed. This density function is utilized to model two real data sets. The new distribution provides a better fit than related distributions as measured by the Anderson–Darling and Cramér–von Mises statistics. The proposed distribution could find applications for instance in the physical and biological sciences, hydrology, medicine, meteorology, engineering, etc.  相似文献

Abstract

A new symmetric heavy-tailed distribution, namely gamma mixture of generalized error distribution is defined by scaling generalized error distribution with gamma distribution, its probability density function, k-moment, skewness and kurtosis are derived. After tedious calculation, we also give the Fisher information matrix, moment estimators and maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of gamma mixture of generalized error distribution. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the point estimators and the stability of Fisher information matrix, extensive simulation experiments are carried out in three groups of parameters. Additionally, the new distribution is applied to Apple Inc. stock (AAPL) data and compared with normal distribution, F-S skewed standardized t distribution and generalized error distribution. It is found that the new distribution has better fitting effect on the data under the Akaike information criterion (AIC). To a certain extent, our results enrich the probability distribution theory and develop the scale mixture distribution, which will provide help and reference for financial data analysis.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new family of discrete distributions and study its properties. It is shown that the new family is a generalization of discrete Marshall-Olkin family of distributions. In particular, we study generalized discrete Weibull distribution in detail. Discrete Marshall-Olkin Weibull distribution, exponentiated discrete Weibull distribution, discrete Weibull distribution, discrete Marshall-Olkin generalized exponential distribution, exponentiated geometric distribution, generalized discrete exponential distribution, discrete Marshall-Olkin Rayleigh distribution and exponentiated discrete Rayleigh distribution are sub-models of generalized discrete Weibull distribution. We derive some basic distributional properties such as probability generating function, moments, hazard rate and quantiles of the generalized discrete Weibull distribution. We can see that the hazard rate function can be decreasing, increasing, bathtub and upside-down bathtub shape. Estimation of the parameters are done using maximum likelihood method. A real data set is analyzed to illustrate the suitability of the proposed model.  相似文献

The generalized Charlier series distribution includes the binomial distribution, and the noncentral negative binomial distribution extends the negative binomial distribution. The present article proposes a family of counting distributions, which contains both the generalized Charlier series and extended noncentral negative binomial distributions. Compound and mixture formulations of the proposed distribution are given. The probability mass function is expressible in terms of the confluent hypergeometric function as well as the Gauss hypergeometric function. Recursive formulae for probability mass function have been studied by Panjer, Sundt and Jewell, Schröter, Sundt, and Kitano et al. in the context of insurance risk. This article explores horizontal, vertical, triangular, and diagonal recursions. Recursive formulae as well as exact expressions for descending factorial moments are studied. The proposed distribution allows overdispersion or underdispersion relative to a Poisson distribution. An illustrative example of data fitting is given.  相似文献

A two-parameter class of discrete distributions, Abel series distributions, generated by expanding a suitable pa,rametric function into a series of Abel polynomials is discussed. An Abel series distribution occurs in fluctuations of sample functions of stochastic processes and has applications in insurance risk, queueing, dam and storage processes. The probability generating function and the factorial moments of the Abel series distributions are obtained in closed forms. It is pointed out that the name of the generalized Poisson distribution of Consul and Jain is justified by the form of its generating function. Finally it is shown that this generalized Poisson distribution is the only member of the Abel series distributions which is closed under convolution.  相似文献

Abstract.  The plug-in solution is usually not entirely adequate for computing prediction intervals, as their coverage probability may differ substantially from the nominal value. Prediction intervals with improved coverage probability can be defined by adjusting the plug-in ones, using rather complicated asymptotic procedures or suitable simulation techniques. Other approaches are based on the concept of predictive likelihood for a future random variable. The contribution of this paper is the definition of a relatively simple predictive distribution function giving improved prediction intervals. This distribution function is specified as a first-order unbiased modification of the plug-in predictive distribution function based on the constrained maximum likelihood estimator. Applications of the results to the Gaussian and the generalized extreme-value distributions are presented.  相似文献

The generalized exponential is the most commonly used distribution for analyzing lifetime data. This distribution has several desirable properties and it can be used quite effectively to analyse several skewed life time data. The main aim of this paper is to introduce absolutely continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution using the method of Block and Basu (1974). In fact, the Block and Basu exponential distribution will be extended to the generalized exponential distribution. We call the new proposed model as the Block and Basu bivariate generalized exponential distribution, then, discuss its different properties. In this case the joint probability distribution function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. The model has four unknown parameters and the maximum likelihood estimators cannot be obtained in explicit form. To compute the maximum likelihood estimators directly, one needs to solve a four dimensional optimization problem. The EM algorithm has been proposed to compute the maximum likelihood estimations of the unknown parameters. One data analysis is provided for illustrative purposes. Finally, we propose some generalizations of the proposed model and compare their models with each other.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we derive the probability density function (pdf) of the product of two independent generalized trapezoidal random variables having different supports, in closed form, by considering all possible cases. We also show that the results for the product of two triangular and uniform random variables follow as special cases of our main result. As an illustration, we obtain pdf of product for a suitably constrained set of parameters and plot some graphs using MATLAB, which express variation in pdf with change in different parameters of the generalized trapezoidal distribution.  相似文献

The probability density function (pdf) ofsingular elliptical distributions is represented as an integralseries of singular normal distributions. Explicit formulas for the pdf and the cdf of the generalized Chi-square distribution are derived under singular elliptical assumptions extending the result of Díaz-García [(2002). Singular elliptical distribution: density and applications. Commun. Stat.—Theory Methods 31:665–681]. Applications are given of the proposed result for singular mixedmodels.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the class of modified power series distribution introduced by GUPTA (1974) and derive a minimum variance unbiased estimator (MVUE) of the probability function for this class. these results are then applied to obtain MVUE of the probability function for the generalized negative binomial distributions, the generalized poisson distribution, the generalized logarithmic series distribution and the lost game distribution. A large number of results in the literature follow trivially from out results as special cases.  相似文献

In life-testing and survival analysis, sometimes the components are arranged in series or parallel system and the number of components is initially unknown. Thus, the number of components, say Z, is considered as random with an appropriate probability mass function. In this paper, we model the survival data with baseline distribution as Weibull and the distribution of Z as generalized Poisson, giving rise to four parameters in the model: increasing, decreasing, bathtub and upside bathtub failure rates. Two examples are provided and the maximum-likelihood estimation of the parameters is studied. Rao's score test is developed to compare the results with the exponential Poisson model studied by Kus [17] and the exponential-generalized Poisson distribution with baseline distribution as exponential and the distribution of Z as generalized Poisson. Simulation studies are carried out to examine the performance of the estimates.  相似文献

We reveal that the minimum Anderson–Darling (MAD) estimator is a variant of the maximum likelihood method. Furthermore, it is shown that the MAD estimator offers excellent opportunities for parameter estimation if there is no explicit formulation for the distribution model. The computation time for the MAD estimator with approximated cumulative distribution function is much shorter than that of the classical maximum likelihood method with approximated probability density function. Additionally, we research the performance of the MAD estimator for the generalized Pareto distribution and demonstrate a further advantage of the MAD estimator with an issue of seismic hazard analysis.  相似文献

A pivotal characteristic of credit defaults that is ignored by most credit scoring models is the rarity of the event. The most widely used model to estimate the probability of default is the logistic regression model. Since the dependent variable represents a rare event, the logistic regression model shows relevant drawbacks, for example, underestimation of the default probability, which could be very risky for banks. In order to overcome these drawbacks, we propose the generalized extreme value regression model. In particular, in a generalized linear model (GLM) with the binary-dependent variable we suggest the quantile function of the GEV distribution as link function, so our attention is focused on the tail of the response curve for values close to one. The estimation procedure used is the maximum-likelihood method. This model accommodates skewness and it presents a generalisation of GLMs with complementary log–log link function. We analyse its performance by simulation studies. Finally, we apply the proposed model to empirical data on Italian small and medium enterprises.  相似文献

Birnbaum–Saunders fatigue life distribution is an important failure model in the probability physical methods. It is more suitable for describing the life rules of fatigue failure products than common life distributions such as Weibull distribution and lognormal distribution. Besides, it is mainly applied to analytical research about fatigue failure and degradation failure of electronic product performance. The characteristic properties such as numerical characteristics and image features of density function and failure rate function are studied for generalized BS fatigue life distribution GBS(α, β, m) in this paper. Then the point estimates and approximate interval estimates of parameters are proposed for generalized BS fatigue life distribution GBS(α, β, m), and the precision of estimates are investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, when the scale parameter satisfies inverse power law model, the failure distribution model is given for the products of two-parameter BS fatigue life distribution BS(α, β) under progressive stress accelerated life test according to the time conversion idea of famous Nelson assumption, and then the points estimates of parameters are given.  相似文献

In this study, a new extension of generalized half-normal (GHN) distribution is introduced. Since this new distribution can be viewed as weighted version of GHN distribution, it is called as weighted generalized half-normal (WGHN) distribution. It is shown that WGHN distribution can be observed as a single constrained and hidden truncation model. Therefore, the new distribution is more flexible than the GHN distribution. Some statistical properties of the WGHN distribution are studied, i.e. moments, cumulative distribution function, hazard rate function are derived. Furthermore, maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters is considered. Some real-life data sets taken from the literature are modelled using the WGHN distribution. It is seen that for these data sets the WGHN distribution provides better fitting than the GHN and slashed generalized half-normal (SGHN) distributions.  相似文献

A generalization of the Gumbel distribution is presented to deal with general situations in modeling univariate data with broad range of skewness in the density function. This generalization is derived by considering a logarithmic transformation of an odd Weibull random variable. As a result, the generalized Gumbel distribution is not only useful for testing goodness-of-fit of Gumbel and reverse-Gumbel distributions as submodels, but it is also convenient for modeling and fitting a wide variety of data sets that are not possible to be modeled by well-known distributions. Skewness and kurtosis shapes of the generalized Gumbel distribution are illustrated by constructing the Galton’s skewness and Moor’s kurtosis plane. Parameters are estimated by using maximum likelihood method in two different ways due to the fact that the reverse transformation of the proposed distribution does not change its density function. In order to illustrate the flexibility of this generalization, wave and surge height data set is analyzed, and the fitness is compared with Gumbel and generalized extreme value distributions.  相似文献

Kumaraswamy [Generalized probability density-function for double-bounded random-processes, J. Hydrol. 462 (1980), pp. 79–88] introduced a distribution for double-bounded random processes with hydrological applications. For the first time, based on this distribution, we describe a new family of generalized distributions (denoted with the prefix ‘Kw’) to extend the normal, Weibull, gamma, Gumbel, inverse Gaussian distributions, among several well-known distributions. Some special distributions in the new family such as the Kw-normal, Kw-Weibull, Kw-gamma, Kw-Gumbel and Kw-inverse Gaussian distribution are discussed. We express the ordinary moments of any Kw generalized distribution as linear functions of probability weighted moments (PWMs) of the parent distribution. We also obtain the ordinary moments of order statistics as functions of PWMs of the baseline distribution. We use the method of maximum likelihood to fit the distributions in the new class and illustrate the potentiality of the new model with an application to real data.  相似文献

The uniformly minimum variance unbiased, maximum-likelihood, percentile and least-squares estimators of the probability density function and the cumulative distribution function are derived for the generalized exponential-Poisson distribution. This model has shown to be useful in reliability and lifetime data modelling, especially when the hazard rate function has a bathtub shape. Simulation studies are also carried out to show that the maximum-likelihood estimator is better than the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) and that the UMVUE is better than others.  相似文献
