Abstract

This paper searches for A-optimal designs for Kronecker product and additive regression models when the errors are heteroscedastic. Sufficient conditions are given so that A-optimal designs for the multifactor models can be built from A-optimal designs for their sub-models with a single factor. The results of an efficiency study carried out to check the adequacy of the products of optimal designs for uni-factor marginal models when these are used to estimate different multi-factor models are also reported.  相似文献

Orthogonal block designs in mixture experiments have been extensively studied by various authors. Aggarwal et al. [M.L. Aggarwal, P. Singh, V. Sarin, and B. Husain, Mixture designs in orthogonal blocks using F-squares, METRON – Int. J. Statist. LXVII(2) (2009), pp. 105–128] considered the case of components assuming the same volume fractions and obtained mixture designs in orthogonal blocks using F-squares. In this paper, we have used the class of designs presented by Aggarwal et al. and have obtained D-, A- and E-optimal orthogonal block designs for four components in two blocks for Becker's mixture models and K-model, respectively. Orthogonality conditions for the considered models are also given.  相似文献

This paper considers the search for locally and maximin optimal designs for multi-factor nonlinear models from optimal designs for sub-models of a lower dimension. In particular, sufficient conditions are given so that maximin D-optimal designs for additive multi-factor nonlinear models can be built from maximin D-optimal designs for their sub-models with a single factor. Some examples of application are models involving exponential decay in several variables.  相似文献

Two results for D θ-optimal designs for nonlinear regression models are shown to follow directly from approximate design theory. The first result considered is one concerning the replication of exact designs with minimum support, first established by Atkinson and Hunter and by M.J. Box in 1968, while the second pertains to a heteroscedastic model introduced by Velilla and Llosa in 1992. An illustrative example is provided.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of D- and A-optimality of direct sum designs for additive mixture models when the errors are heteroscedastic. Sufficient conditions are given so that D- and A-optimal designs for additive mixture models can be constructed from the D- and A-optimal designs for homogeneous models in sub-mixture systems.  相似文献

The problem of finding D-optimal or D-efficient designs in the presence of covariates is considered under a completely randomized design set-up with v treatments, k covariates and N experimental units. In contrast to Lopes Troya [Lopes Troya, J., 1982, Optimal designs for covariates models. Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference, 6, 373–419.], who considered this problem in the equireplicate case, we do not assume that N/v is an integer, and this allows us to study situations where no equireplicate design exists. Even when N/v is an integer, it is seen quite counter-intuitively that there are situations where a non-equireplicate design outperforms the best equireplicate design under the D-criterion.  相似文献

The wrap-around (WD) L2-discrepancy has been commonly used in experimental designs. In this paper, some lower bounds of the WD L2-discrepancy for asymmetrical U-type designs are given and the expectation and variance of midpoint Latin hypercube designs (LHD) are also obtained. Relationships between midpoint LHD and uniform designs for symmetrical and asymmetrical cases are discussed in the sense of comparing the lower bound and the expectation of squared wrap-around L2-discrepancy of U-type designs. Some comparisons between simple random sampling and the lower bounds of U-type designs are given.  相似文献

Commentaries are informative essays dealing with viewpoints of statistical practice, statistical education, and other topics considered to be of general interest to the broad readership of The American Statistician. Commentaries are similar in spirit to Letters to the Editor, but they involve longer discussions of background, issues, and perspectives. All commentaries will be refereed for their merit and compatibility with these criteria.

Proper methodology for the analysis of covariance for experiments designed in a split-plot or split-block design is not found in the statistical literature. Analyses for these designs are often performed incompletely or even incorrectly. This is especially true when popular statistical computer software packages are used for the analysis of these designs. This article provides several appropriate models, ANOVA tables, and standard errors for comparisons from experiments arranged in a standard split-plot, split–split-plot, or split-block design where a covariate has been measured on the smallest size experimental unit.  相似文献

Experimental designs are widely used in predicting the optimal operating conditions of the process parameters in lifetime improvement experiments. The most commonly observed lifetime distributions are log-normal, exponential, gamma and Weibull. In the present article, invariant robust first-order rotatable designs are derived for autocorrelated lifetime responses having log-normal, exponential, gamma and Weibull distributions. In the process, robust first-order D-optimal and rotatable conditions have been derived under these situations. For these lifetime distributions with correlated errors, it is shown that robust first-order D-optimal designs are always robust rotatable but the converse is not true. Moreover, it is observed that robust first-order D-optimal and rotatable designs depend on the respective error variance–covariance structure but are independent from these considered lifetime response distributions.  相似文献

The problem of finding D-optimal designs in the presence of a number of covariates has been considered in the one-way set-up. This is an extension of Dey and Mukerjee (2006 Dey , A. , Mukerjee , R. ( 2006 ). D-optimal designs for covariate models . Statistics 40 : 297305 .[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) in the sense that for fixed replication numbers of each treatment, an alternative upper bound to the determinant of the information matrix has been found through completely symmetric C-matrices for the regression coefficients; this upper bound includes the upper bound given in Dey and Mukerjee (2006 Dey , A. , Mukerjee , R. ( 2006 ). D-optimal designs for covariate models . Statistics 40 : 297305 .[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) obtained through diagonal C-matrices. Because of the fact that a smaller class of C-matrices was used at the intermediate stage where the replication numbers were fixed, ultimately some optimal designs remained unidentified there. These designs have been identified here and thereby the conjecture made in Dey and Mukerjee (2006 Dey , A. , Mukerjee , R. ( 2006 ). D-optimal designs for covariate models . Statistics 40 : 297305 .[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) has been settled.  相似文献

Repeated measurement designs are widely used in medicine, pharmacology, animal sciences and psychology. These designs balance out the residual effects. The situations where balanced repeated measurements designs require a large number of the subjects, partially-balanced repeated measurements designs should be used. In this paper some infinite series are developed which provide circular partially-balanced repeated measurement designs for p (periods) even. Catalogues of circular partially-balanced repeated measurement designs are also presented for v (treatments) ≤ 100 with p = 5, 7 & 9.  相似文献

The present article is devoted to an extension of the functional approach elaborated in the book Melas (2006 Melas , V. B. ( 2006 ). Functional Approach to Optimal Experimental Design . Lecture Notes in Statistics , Vol. 184. Heidelberg : Springer . [Google Scholar]) for studying optimal designs in linear and nonlinear regression models. Here we consider Bayesian efficient designs for nonlinear models under the standard assumptions on the observational errors. Sufficient conditions for uniqueness of locally optimal and Bayesian efficient designs for common optimality criteria are given. L-efficient Bayesian designs are constructed and investigated for a special nonlinear regression model of a rational form as an illustration of our main results. This model is interesting in both a practical and a theoretical sense.  相似文献

Some series of m-associate triangular PBIB designs have been constructed. A table of now three associate designs in the range b, v ≦ 100; r, k ≦ 10 with their average efficiencies has been given. These designs with (v, b, r, k) are new in the sense that the existence of two associate PBIB designs (e.f. Clatworthy (1973), John & Turner (1977), Dey (1978)) with these parameters are not known. The constructions presented herein also yield partially balanced weighing designs, nested PBIB designs and PBIB designs for m11111 response exoeriments.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, the problem of obtaining efficient block designs for incomplete factorial treatment structure with two factors excluding one treatment combination for estimation of dual versus single treatment contrasts is considered. The designs have been obtained using the A-optimal completely randomized designs and modified strongest treatment interchange algorithm. A catalog of efficient block designs has been prepared for m1?=?3, 4 and m2?=?2, b?≤?10 and k?≤?9 and for m1?=?3,4 and m2?=?3, 4, b?≤?10 and k?≤?10.  相似文献

This article proposes an algorithm to construct efficient balanced multi-level k-circulant supersaturated designs with m factors and n runs. The algorithm generates efficient balanced multi-level k-circulant supersaturated designs very fast. Using the proposed algorithm many balanced multi-level supersaturated designs are constructed and cataloged. A list of many optimal and near optimal, multi-level supersaturated designs is also provided for m ≤ 60 and number of levels (q) ≤10. The algorithm can be used to generate two-level k-circulant supersaturated designs also and some large optimal two-level supersaturated designs are presented. An upper bound to the number of factors in a balanced multi-level supersaturated design such that no two columns are fully aliased is also provided.  相似文献

The purpose of mixture experiments is to explore the optimum blends of mixture components, which will provide the desirable response characteristics in finished products. D-optimal minimal designs have been considered for a variety of mixture models, including Scheffé's linear, quadratic, and cubic models. Usually, these D-optimal designs are minimally supported since they have just as many design points as the number of parameters. Thus, they lack the degrees of freedom to perform the lack-of-fit (LOF) tests. Also, the majority of the design points in D-optimal minimal designs are on the boundary: vertices, edges, or faces of the design simplex. In this article, extensions of the D-optimal minimal designs are developed for a general mixture model to allow additional interior points in the design space to enable prediction of the entire response surface. Also a new strategy for adding multiple interior points for symmetric mixture models is proposed. We compare the proposed designs with Cornell (1986 Cornell, J.A. (1986). A comparison between two ten-point designs for studying three-component mixture systems. J. Qual. Technol. 18(1):115.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) two 10-point designs for the LOF test by simulations.  相似文献

In this paper we establish the form of the optimal paired comparison design when there are k attributes, each with two levels, for testing for main effects, for main effects and two factor interactions and for main effects and two and three factor interactions. In all cases we assume that all pairs with the same number of attributes different appear equally often. In this setting the D and A optimal designs for main effects are the foldover pairs and those for main effects and two factor interactions have pairs in which about half the attributes are different.  相似文献

This paper studies optimum designs for linear models when the errors are heteroscedastic. Sufficient conditions are given in order to obtainD-, A- andE-optimum designs for a complete regression model from partial optimum designs for some sub-parameters. A result about optimality for a complete model from the optimality for the submodels is included. Supported by Junta de Andalucía, research group FQM244.  相似文献

The cost and time consumption of many industrial experimentations can be reduced using the class of supersaturated designs since this can be used for screening out the important factors from a large set of potentially active variables. A supersaturated design is a design for which there are fewer runs than effects to be estimated. Although there exists a wide study of construction methods for supersaturated designs, their analysis methods are yet in an early research stage. In this article, we propose a method for analyzing data using a correlation-based measure, named as symmetrical uncertainty. This method combines measures from the information theory field and is used as the main idea of variable selection algorithms developed in data mining. In this work, the symmetrical uncertainty is used from another viewpoint in order to determine more directly the important factors. The specific method enables us to use supersaturated designs for analyzing data of generalized linear models for a Bernoulli response. We evaluate our method by using some of the existing supersaturated designs, obtained according to methods proposed by Tang and Wu (1997 Tang , B. , Wu , C. F. J. (1997). A method for constructing supersaturated designs and its E(s 2)-optimality. Canadian Journal of Statistics 25:191201.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) as well as by Koukouvinos et al. (2008 Koukouvinos , C. , Mylona , K. , Simos , D. E. ( 2008 ). E(s 2)-optimal and minimax-optimal cyclic supersaturated designs via multi-objective simulated annealing . Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference 138 : 16391646 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). The comparison is performed by some simulating experiments and the Type I and Type II error rates are calculated. Additionally, Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves methodology is applied as an additional statistical tool for performance evaluation.  相似文献

Inference for a generalized linear model is generally performed using asymptotic approximations for the bias and the covariance matrix of the parameter estimators. For small experiments, these approximations can be poor and result in estimators with considerable bias. We investigate the properties of designs for small experiments when the response is described by a simple logistic regression model and parameter estimators are to be obtained by the maximum penalized likelihood method of Firth [Firth, D., 1993, Bias reduction of maximum likelihood estimates. Biometrika, 80, 27–38]. Although this method achieves a reduction in bias, we illustrate that the remaining bias may be substantial for small experiments, and propose minimization of the integrated mean square error, based on Firth's estimates, as a suitable criterion for design selection. This approach is used to find locally optimal designs for two support points.  相似文献
