We consider a new generalization of the skew-normal distribution introduced by Azzalini (1985). We denote this distribution Beta skew-normal (BSN) since it is a special case of the Beta generated distribution (Jones, 2004). Some properties of the BSN are studied. We pay attention to some generalizations of the skew-normal distribution (Bahrami et al., 2009; Sharafi and Behboodian, 2008; Yadegari et al., 2008) and to their relations with the BSN. 相似文献

By applying the recursion of Huffer (1988) repeatedly, we propose an algorithm for evaluating the null joint distribution of Dixon-type test statistics for testing discordancy of k upper outliers in exponential samples. By using the critical values of Dixon-type test statistics determined from the proposed algorithm and those of Cochran-type test statistics presented earlier by Lin and Balakrishnan (2009), we carry out an extensive Monte Carlo study to investigate the powers and the error probabilities for the effects of masking and swamping when the number of outliers k = 2 and 3. Based on our empirical findings, we recommend Rosner’s (1975) sequential test procedure based on Dixon-type test statistics for testing multiple outliers from an exponential distribution. 相似文献

In this article, we consider the M-estimators for the linear regression model when both response and covariate variables are subject to double censoring. The proposed estimators are constructed as some functional of three types of estimators for a bivariate survival distribution. The first two estimators are the generalizations of the Campbell and Földes (1982) and Dabrowska (1988) estimators proposed by Shen (2009). The third estimator is the generalization of the Prentice and Cai (1992) estimator. The consistency of the proposed M-estimators is established. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed estimators. Furthermore, the simple bootstrap methods are used to estimate standard deviations and construct interval estimators. 相似文献

Population and sample versions of Kendall and Spearman measures of association suitable for multivariate ordinal data are defined. The latter generalize the indices of dependence of Ruymgaart and van Zuijlen (1978), Joe (1990), and Schmid and Schmidt (2007) by allowing atoms in the underlying distribution. The representation of the proposed empirical measures as U-statistics enables to establish their asymptotic normality under general distributions. A special attention is given to tests of independence for multivariate ordinal data, where the power of the new methodologies are investigated under fixed and contiguous alternatives. 相似文献

A proposed method based on frailty models is used to identify longitudinal biomarkers or surrogates for a multivariate survival. This method is an extention of earlier models by Wulfsohn and Tsiatis (1997) and Song et al. (2002). In this article, similar to Henderson et al. (2002), a joint likelihood function combines the likelihood functions of the longitudinal biomarkers and the multivariate survival times. We use simulations to explore how the number of individuals, the number of time points per individual and the functional form of the random effects from the longitudianl biomarkers influence the power to detect the association of a longitudinal biomarker and the multivariate survival time. The proposed method is illustrate by using the gastric cancer data. 相似文献

This paper addresses a generalization of the bivariate Cauchy distribution discussed by Fang et al. (1990), derived from a trivariate normal distribution with a general correlation matrix. We obtain explicit expressions for the joint distribution function and joint density function, and show that they reduce in a special case to the corresponding expressions of Fang et al. (1990). Finally, we show that this generalized distribution is useful in determining the orthant probability of a bivariate skew-normal distribution of Azzalini and Dalla Valle (1996). 相似文献

In this article, another version of the generalized exponential geometric distribution different to that of Silva et al. (2010) is proposed. This new three-parameter lifetime distribution with decreasing, increasing, and bathtub failure rate function is created by compounding the generalized exponential distribution of Gupta and Kundu (1999) with a geometric distribution. Some basic distributional properties, moment-generating function, rth moment, and Rényi entropy of the new distribution are studied. The model parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood method and the asymptotic distribution of estimators is discussed. Finally, an application of the new distribution is illustrated using the two real data sets. 相似文献

Under Stein's loss, a class of improved estimators for the scale parameter of a mixture of exponential distribution with unknown location is constructed. The method is analogous to Maruyama's (1998) construction for the variance of a normal distribution and also an extension of the result produced in Petropoulos and Kourouklis (2002). Also, robustness properties are considered. 相似文献

Two types of estimates of process level, namely repeated median estimates (Siegel, 1982) and full online estimates (Gather et al., 2006) based on repeated median filters, are used to develop control charts. The distributional properties of the estimates are studied using simulation and these are found to closely follow normal distribution. The repeated median being robust against outliers with asymptotically 50% breakdown value and having small standard deviation is found to be useful as a basis for monitoring process averages. The control charts using repeated median estimates have been recommended for general use. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper reviews and extends the literature on the finite sample behavior of tests for sample selection bias. Monte Carlo results show that, when the “multicollinearity problem” identified by Nawata (1993) is severe, (i) the t-test based on the Heckman–Greene variance estimator can be unreliable, (ii) the Likelihood Ratio test remains powerful, and (iii) nonnormality can be interpreted as severe sample selection bias by Maximum Likelihood methods, leading to negative Wald statistics. We also confirm previous findings (Leung and Yu, 1996) that the standard regression-based t-test (Heckman, 1979) and the asymptotically efficient Lagrange Multiplier test (Melino, 1982), are robust to nonnormality but have very little power. 相似文献

We develop a series of Bayesian statistical models for estimating survival of a neotropic didelphid marsupial, the Brazilian gracile mouse opossum (Gracilinanus microtarsus). These models are based on the Cormack–Jolly–Seber model (Cormack, 1964; Jolly 1965; Seber 1965) with both survival and recapture rates expressed as a function of covariates using a logit link. The proposed models allow taking into account heterogeneity in capture probability caused by the existence of different groups of individuals in the population. The models were applied to two cohorts (Cohort, 2000, 2001) with the first one including 14 and the second one 15 sampling occasions. The best models for each of the cohorts indicate that G. microtarsus is best described as partially semelparous, a condition in which mortality after the first mating is high but graded over time, with a fraction of males surviving for a second breeding season (Boonstra, 2005). 相似文献

When two random variables have a bivariate normal distribution, Stein's lemma (Stein, 1973 1981), provides, under certain regularity conditions, an expression for the covariance of the first variable with a function of the second. An extension of the lemma due to Liu (1994) as well as to Stein himself establishes an analogous result for a vector of variables which has a multivariate normal distribution. The extension leads in turn to a generalization of Siegel's (1993) formula for the covariance of an arbitrary element of a multivariate normal vector with its minimum element. This article describes extensions to Stein's lemma for the case when the vector of random variables has a multivariate skew-normal distribution. The corollaries to the main result include an extension to Siegel's formula. This article was motivated originally by the issue of portfolio selection in finance. Under multivariate normality, the implication of Stein's lemma is that all rational investors will select a portfolio which lies on Markowitz's mean-variance efficient frontier. A consequence of the extension to Stein's lemma is that under multivariate skew-normality, rational investors will select a portfolio which lies on a single mean-variance-skewness efficient hyper-surface. 相似文献

In this article, we consider the progressive Type II right censored sample from Pareto distribution. We introduce a new approach for constructing the simultaneous confidence interval of the unknown parameters of this distribution under progressive censoring. A Monte Carlo study is also presented for illustration. It is shown that this confidence region has a smaller area than that introduced by Ku? and Kaya (2007). 相似文献

In this article, a new family of probability distributions with domain in ?+ is introduced. This class can be considered as a natural extension of the exponential-inverse Gaussian distribution in Bhattacharya and Kumar (1986) and Frangos and Karlis (2004). This new family is obtained through the mixture of gamma distribution with generalized inverse Gaussian distribution. We also show some important features such as expressions of probability density function, moments, etc. Special attention is paid to the mixture with the inverse Gaussian distribution, as a particular case of the generalized inverse Gaussian distribution. From the exponential-inverse Gaussian distribution two one-parameter family of distributions are obtained to derive risk measures and credibility expressions. The versatility of this family has been proven in numerical examples. 相似文献

In incident cohort studies, survival data often include subjects who have had an initiate event at recruitment and may potentially experience two successive events (first and second) during the follow-up period. Since the second duration process becomes observable only if the first event has occurred, left-truncation and dependent censoring arise if the two duration times are correlated. To confront the two potential sampling biases, Chang and Tzeng (2006) provided an inverse-probability-weighted (IPW) approach for estimating the joint probability function of successive duration times. In this note, an alternative IPW approach is proposed. A simulation study is conducted to compare the two IPW approaches. 相似文献

The Significance Analysis of Microarrays (SAM; Tusher et al., 2001) method is widely used in analyzing gene expression data while controlling the FDR by using resampling-based procedure in the microarray setting. One of the main components of the SAM procedure is the adjustment of the test statistic. The introduction of the fudge factor to the test statistic aims at deflating the large value of test statistics due to the small standard error of gene-expression. Lin et al. (2008) pointed out that the fudge factor does not effectively improve the power and the control of the FDR as compared to the SAM procedure without the fudge factor in the presence of small variance genes. Motivated by the simulation results presented in Lin et al. (2008), in this article, we extend our study to compare several methods for choosing the fudge factor in the modified t-type test statistics and use simulation studies to investigate the power and the control of the FDR of the considered methods. 相似文献

This article presents results concerning the performance of both single equation and system panel cointegration tests and estimators. The study considers the tests developed in Pedroni (1999, 2004), Westerlund (2005), Larsson et al. (2001), and Breitung (2005) and the estimators developed in Phillips and Moon (1999), Pedroni (2000), Kao and Chiang (2000), Mark and Sul (2003), Pedroni (2001), and Breitung (2005). We study the impact of stable autoregressive roots approaching the unit circle, of I(2) components, of short-run cross-sectional correlation and of cross-unit cointegration on the performance of the tests and estimators. The data are simulated from three-dimensional individual specific VAR systems with cointegrating ranks varying from zero to two for fourteen different panel dimensions. The usual specifications of deterministic components are considered. 相似文献

Extending the bifurcating autoregressive (BAR) process (cf. Cowan and Staudte, 1986) to multi-casting (multi-splitting) data, Hwang and Choi (2009) introduced multi-casting autoregression (MCAR, for short) defined on multi-casting tree structured data. This article is concerned with the case when the MCAR model is partially specified only through conditional mean and variance without directly imposing autoregressive (AR) structure. The resulting class of models will be referred to as P-MCAR (partially specified MCAR). The P-MCAR considerably enlarges the class of multi-casting models including (as special cases) MCAR, random coefficient MCAR, conditionally heteroscedastic multi-casting models and binomial-thinning processes. Moment structures for this broad P-MCAR class are investigated. Least squares (LS) estimation method is discussed and asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) of the generalized-LS over ordinary-LS is obtained in a closed form. A simulation study is conducted to illustrate results. 相似文献

In Bayesian Inference it is often desirable to have a posterior density reflecting mainly the information from sample data. To achieve this purpose it is important to employ prior densities which add little information to the sample. We have in the literature many such prior densities, for example, Jeffreys (1967), Lindley (1956); (1961), Hartigan (1964), Bernardo (1979), Zellner (1984), Tibshirani (1989), etc. In the present article, we compare the posterior densities of the reliability function by using Jeffreys, the maximal data information (Zellner, 1984), Tibshirani's, and reference priors for the reliability function R(t) in a Weibull distribution. 相似文献

For each positive integer k, a set of k-principal points of a distribution is the set of k points that optimally represent the distribution in terms of mean squared distance. However, explicit form of k-principal points is often difficult to obtain. Hence a theorem established by Tarpey et al. (1995) has been influential in the literature, which states that when the distribution is elliptically symmetric, any set of k-principal points is in the linear subspace spanned by some principal eigenvectors of the covariance matrix. This theorem is called a “principal subspace theorem”. Recently, Yamamoto and Shinozaki (2000b) derived a principal subspace theorem for 2-principal points of a location mixture of spherically symmetric distributions. In their article, the ratio of mixture was set to be equal. This article derives a further result by considering a location mixture with unequal mixture ratio. 相似文献
