In this paper, we establish general recurrence relations satisfied by the product moments (of any order) of bivariate order statistics from any arbitrary bivariate uniform distribution function. Moreover, we present formulae to easily compute the product moments (of any order) of bivariate order statistics from any arbitrary bivariate distribution function, with positive left endpoints, or with negative right endpoints.  相似文献

In this paper we give some properties of the expected values of any order statistic when one of its adjacent order statistics is known (order mean function) from a sequence of sizen of independent and identically distributed random variables with discrete distribution. Furthermore, we obtain the explicit expressions of the distribution from these order mean functions, and finally, we show the necessary and sufficient conditions for any real function to be an order mean function. We also add some examples of characterization of discrete distributions from the order mean functions. In a wide subclass of generalized order statistics, representations of marginal density and distribution functions are developed. The results are applied to obtain several relations, such as recurrence relations, and explicit expressions for the moments of generalized order statistics from Pareto, power function and Weibull distributions Moreover, characterizations of exponential distributions are shown by means of a distributional identity as well as by* an identity of expectations involving a subrange and a corresponding generalized order statistic.  相似文献

Apart from having intrinsic mathematical interest, order statistics are also useful in the solution of many applied sampling and analysis problems. For a general review of the properties and uses of order statistics, see David (1981). This paper provides tabulations of means and variances of certain order statistics from the gamma distribution, for parameter values not previously available. The work was motivated by a particular quota sampling problem, for which existing tables are not adequate. The solution to this sampling problem actually requires the moments of the highest order statistic within a given set; however the calculation algorithm used involves a recurrence relation, which causes all the lower order statistics to be calculated first. Therefore we took the opportunity to develop more extensive tables for the gamma order statistic moments in general. Our tables provide values for the order statistic moments which were not available in previous tables, notably those for higher values of m, the gamma distribution shape parameter. However we have also retained the corresponding statistics for lower values of m, first to allow for checking accuracy of the computtions agtainst previous tables, and second to provide an integrated presentation of our new results with the previously known values in a consistent format  相似文献

Abstract

The class of transmuted distributions has received a lot of attention in the recent statistical literature. In this paper, we propose a rich family of bivariate distribution whose conditionals are transmuted distributions. The new family of distributions depends on the two baseline distributions and three dependence parameters. Apart from the general properties, we also study the distribution of the concomitance of order statistics. We study specific bivariate models. Estimation methodologies are proposed. A simulation study is conducted. The usefulness of this family is established by fitting well analyzed real life time data.  相似文献

Certain recurrence relations for the moments of different orders of the largest order statistic from a gamma distribution with shape parameter p are obtained. By using this it is shown that for obtaining the moment of any order of each order statistic of a sample of size n from the gamma distribution, one has to evaluate at most n-2 single integrals.  相似文献

By considering order statistics arising from n independent non-identically distributed right-truncated exponential random variables, we derive in this paper several recurrence relations for the single and the product moments of order statistics. These recurrence relations are simple in nature and could be used systematically in order to compute all the single and the product moments of order statistics for all sample sizes in a simple recursive manner. The results for order statistics from a multiple-outlier model (with a slippage of p observations) from a right-truncated exponential population are deduced as special cases. These results will be useful in assessing robustness properties of any linear estimator of the unknown parameter of the right-truncated exponential distribution, in the presence of one or more outliers in the sample. These results generalize those for the order statistics arising from an i.i.d. sample from a right-truncated exponential population established by Joshi (1978, 1982).  相似文献

In this paper, recurrence relations for single and product moments of generalized order statistics (gOSs) from linear exponential distribution (LE) are derived and characterizations of this distribution based on the conditional moments of the gOSs are given.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a family of bivariate distributions which includes the well-known Morgenstern family of bivariate distributions as its subclass. We identify some properties of concomitants of order statistics which characterize this generalized class of distributions. An application of the characterization result in modeling a bivariate distribution to a data is also explained.  相似文献

In the present article, the general distribution theory of Morgenstern type bivariate gamma distribution and the properties of the concomitants of order statistics from it are discussed. Estimation for the parameters of the distribution using the concomitants and method of moments are proposed and their properties are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish the role of concomitants of order statistics in the unique identification of the parent bivariate distribution. From the results developed, we have illustrated by examples the process of determination of the parent bivariate distribution using a marginal pdf and the pdf of either of the concomitant of largest or smallest order statistic on the other variable. An application of the results derived in modeling of a bivariate distribution for data sets drawn from a population as well is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper the work of Pancheva (1984) for extreme order statistics under nonlinear normalization is extended to order statistics with variable ranks. Two new results are proved. The first is that under nonlinear normalization, the nondegenerate type (family of types) of the distribution functions with two finite growth points is a possible weak limit of any central order statistic with regular rank sequence. The second result is that the possible nondegenerate weak limits of any central order statistic with regular rank under the traditionally linear normalization and under the power normalization are the same. Finally, the class of all possible weak limits for lower and upper intermediate order statistics is derived under power normalization from the corresponding weak limits of extremes under power normalization.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the generalized exponential distribution (GED) with shape parameter α. We establish several recurrence relations satisfied by the single and the product moments for order statistics from the GED. The relationships can be written in terms of polygamma and hypergeometric functions and used in a simple recursive manner in order to compute the single and the product moments of all order statistics for all sample sizes.  相似文献

In this article, we obtain expressions for the pdf of a single concomitant of order statistic and the joint pdf of a pair of concomitants of order statistics of independent non identically distributed random variables. Using these expressions, we find the means, variances and covariances of order statistics arising from independent non identically distributed bivariate Pareto distributions. A method of estimation of a common parameter involved in several bivariate Pareto distributions using concomitants of order statistics is also discussed.  相似文献

Two characterizations of distributions symmetric about zero are given. These are based on the distributional properties of the squates of the order statistics from a random sample from these distributions. A result explering the relation between the distribution funcitons of two unordered (not necessarily independent) variables and those of their order statistics is presented. This has some interesting applications.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Based on the observed dual generalized order statistics drawn from an arbitrary unknown distribution, nonparametric two-sided prediction intervals as well as prediction upper and lower bounds for an ordinary and a dual generalized order statistic from another iid sequence with the same distribution are developed. The prediction intervals for dual generalized order statistics based on the observed ordinary generalized order statistics are also developed. The coverage probabilities of these prediction intervals are exact and free of the parent distribution, F. Finally, numerical computations and real examples of the coverage probabilities are presented for choosing the appropriate limits of the prediction.  相似文献

We derive closed form expressions for the first two moments of order statistics from the sine distribution. For the higher moments, a recurrence relation is given. We also give a recurrence relation for the product moments. These relations will be useful for moment computations based on ordered data.  相似文献

The joint and marginal distributions of generalized order statistics based on an arbitrary distribution function are established in terms of the lexicographic distribution function. Furthermore, we show that generalized order statistics and the corresponding number of ties form a two-dimensional Markov chain.  相似文献

Abstract

In extreme value theory for ordinary order statistics, there are many results that characterize the domains of attraction of the three extreme value distributions. In this article, we consider a subclass of generalized order statistics for which also three types of limit distributions occur. We characterize the domains of attraction of these limit distributions by means of necessary and/or sufficient conditions for an underlying distribution function to belong to the respective domain of attraction. Moreover, we compare the domains of attraction of the limit distributions for extreme generalized order statistics with the domains of attraction of the extreme value distributions.  相似文献
