In a sequence of independent and identically distributed (iid) random variables, the upper (lower) current records and record range are studied. We derive general recurrence relations between the single and product moments for the upper and lower current records based on Weibull and positive Weibull distributions, as well as Pareto and negative Pareto distributions, respectively. Moreover, some asymptotic results for general current records are established. In addition, a recurrence relation and an explicit formula for the moments of record range based on the exponential distribution are given. Finally, numerical examples are presented to illustrate and corroborate theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, recurrence relations from a general class of doubly truncated continuous distributions which are satisfied by single as well as product moments of order statistics are obtained. Recurrence relations from doubly truncated generalized Weibull, exponential, Raleigh and logistic distributions have been derived as special cases of our result, Some previous results for doubly truncated Weibull, standard exponential, power function and Burr type XII distributions are obtained as special cases. The general recurrence relation of single moments has been used in the case of the left and right truncation to characterize the Weibull, Burr type XII and Pareto distributions.  相似文献

Erlang distribution has wide applications in the field of reliability models, stochastic activity networks and many other fields. In this paper a recurrence relation for computing all moments of all order statistics arising from independent nonidentically distributed Erlang variables is established.  相似文献

We give recurrence relations for single and product moments of generalized order statistics under the concept of Kamps from Pareto, generalized Pareto and Burr distributions. The results include as particular cases the above relations for moments of k–th record values.  相似文献

In this paper some recurrence relations between moments of progressive Type-II right censored order statistics from doubly truncated Burr distribution are established. These recurrence relations would enable one to obtain all the single and product moments of Burr progressive Type-II right censored order statistics in a simple recursive manner.  相似文献

Several recurrence relations and identities available for single and product moments of order1 statistics in a sample size n from an arbitrary continuous distribution are extended for the discrete case,, Making use of these recurrence relations it is shown that it is sufficient to evaluate just two single moments and (n-l)/2 product moments when n is odd and two single moments and {n-2)/2 product moments when n is even, in order to evaluate the first, second and product moments of order statistics in a sample of size n drawn from an arbitrary discrete distribution, given these moments in samples of sizes n-1 and less.. A series representation for the product moments of order statistics is derived.. Besides enabling us to obtain an exact and explicit expression for the product moments of order statistics from the geometric distribution, it. makes the computation of the product moments of order statistics from other discrete distributions easy too.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new circular distribution to be called as wrapped Lindley distribution and derive expressions for characteristic function, trigonometric moments, coefficients of skewness, and kurtosis. Method of maximum likelihood estimation is used for the estimation of parameters. We carry out a simulation study to show that the obtained maximum likelihood estimator is consistent. The proposed model is also applied to a real-life dataset, and its performance is compared with that of wrapped exponential distribution.  相似文献

For the linear-exponential distribution with increasing hazard rate, exact and explicit expressions for means, product moments and percentage points of order statistics are obtained. Some recurrence relations for both single and product moments of order statistics are also derived. These recurrence relations would enable one to obtain all the higher order moments of order statistics for all sample sizes from those of the lower order  相似文献

In this paper we establish some recurrence relations satisfied by single and product moments of upper record values from the generalized Pareto distribution. It is shown that these relations may be used to obtain all the single and product moments of all record values in a simple recursive manner. We also show that similar results established recently by Balakrishnan and Ahsanullah (1993) for the upper record values from the exponential distribution may be deduced by letting the shape parameter p tend to 0.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive several new recurrence relations and indentities satisfied by the single and the product moments of order statistics from a sample of size n in the presence of an outlier. These recurrence relations involve the first two single moments and the product moments in samples of sized n?1 and less. By making use of these recurrence relations we show that it is sufficient to evaluate at most two single rerents and (n?2)/2 product moment when n is even and two single moments and (n?2)/2 product moments when n is odd, in order to evaluate the first and second single moments and product moments of all order statistics in a sample of size n comprising an outlier, given these moments for the all sample of size less than n. These generalize the results of Govindarajulu (1963), Joshi (1971), and Joshi and Balakrishnan (1982) to the case when the sample includes a single outlier. We also establish some simple identitites involving linear combination of convariances of order statistics. These results can be effectively used to reduce the amount of numerical computation considerably and also to check the accuracy of the computations while evaluating means, variances and covariances of order statistics from an outlier model.  相似文献

The recurrence relations between the incomplete moments and the factorial incomplete moments of the modified power series distributions (MPSD) are derived. These relations are employed to obtain the experessions for the incomplete moments and the incomplete factorial moments of some particular members of the MPSD class such as the generalized negative binomial, the generalized Poisson, the generalized logrithmic series, the lost game distribution and the distribution of the number of customers served in a busy period. An application of the incomplete moments of the generalized Poisson distribution is provided in the economic selection of a manufactured product. A numerical example is provided using the Poisson distribution and the Generalized Poisson distribution. The example illustrates the difference in results using the two models  相似文献

Apart from having intrinsic mathematical interest, order statistics are also useful in the solution of many applied sampling and analysis problems. For a general review of the properties and uses of order statistics, see David (1981). This paper provides tabulations of means and variances of certain order statistics from the gamma distribution, for parameter values not previously available. The work was motivated by a particular quota sampling problem, for which existing tables are not adequate. The solution to this sampling problem actually requires the moments of the highest order statistic within a given set; however the calculation algorithm used involves a recurrence relation, which causes all the lower order statistics to be calculated first. Therefore we took the opportunity to develop more extensive tables for the gamma order statistic moments in general. Our tables provide values for the order statistic moments which were not available in previous tables, notably those for higher values of m, the gamma distribution shape parameter. However we have also retained the corresponding statistics for lower values of m, first to allow for checking accuracy of the computtions agtainst previous tables, and second to provide an integrated presentation of our new results with the previously known values in a consistent format  相似文献

On some study of skew-t distributions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract

In this note, through ratio of independent random variables, new families of univariate and bivariate skew-t distributions are introduced. Probability density function for each skew-t distribution will be given. We also derive explicit forms of moments of the univariate skew-t distribution and recurrence relations for its cumulative distribution function. Finally we illustrate the flexibility of this class of distributions with applications to a simulated data and the volcanos heights data.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive some recurrence relations for the single and the product moments of order statistics from n independent and non-identically distributed Lomax and right-truncated Lomax random variables. These recurrence relations are simple in nature and could be used systematically in order to compute all the single and product moments of all order statistics in a simple recursive manner. The results for order statistics from the multiple-outlier model (with a slippage of p observations) are deduced as special cases. We then apply these results by examining the robustness of censored BLUE's to the presence of multiple outliers. Received: November 30, 1998; revised version: March 8, 2000  相似文献

In this article, by using the dropping argument, a general recurrence relation satisfied by the joint cumulative distribution functions of order statistics from any arbitrary bivariate distribution function is established. This recurrence relation is the first bivariate version of the basic triangle rule for order statistics arisen from univariate distribution function. Finally, this relation is extended to the trivariate case. These lead to similar identities for product moments (of any order) of order statistics.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive some recurrence relations satisfied by the single and the product moments of order statistics arising from n independent and non-identically distributed power function random variables. These recurrence relations will enable one to compute all the single and the product moments of all order statistics in a simple recursive manner. The results for the multiple-outlier model are deduced as special cases. The results are further generalized to the case of truncated power function random variables.  相似文献

In this article, for the first time, we propose the negative binomial–beta Weibull (BW) regression model for studying the recurrence of prostate cancer and to predict the cure fraction for patients with clinically localized prostate cancer treated by open radical prostatectomy. The cure model considers that a fraction of the survivors are cured of the disease. The survival function for the population of patients can be modeled by a cure parametric model using the BW distribution. We derive an explicit expansion for the moments of the recurrence time distribution for the uncured individuals. The proposed distribution can be used to model survival data when the hazard rate function is increasing, decreasing, unimodal and bathtub shaped. Another advantage is that the proposed model includes as special sub-models some of the well-known cure rate models discussed in the literature. We derive the appropriate matrices for assessing local influence on the parameter estimates under different perturbation schemes. We analyze a real data set for localized prostate cancer patients after open radical prostatectomy.  相似文献

In this paper we present analogues of Balakrishnan's (1989) relations that relate the triple and quadruple moments of order statistics from independent and nonidentically distributed (I.NI.D.) random variables from a symmetric distribution to those of the folded distribution. We then apply these results, along with the corresponding recurrence relations for the exponential distribution derived recently by Childs (2003), to study the robustness of the Winsorized variance.  相似文献

The logistic distribution is a simple distribution possessing many useful properties and has been used extensively for analyzing growth. Recently, van Staden and King proposed a quantile-based skew logistic distribution. In this paper, we introduce an alternative skew logistic distribution. We then establish recurrence relations for the computation of the single and product moments of order statistics from the standard skew logistic distribution by using the moments of order statistics from the standard half logistic distribution. These enable an efficient computation of means, variances and covariances of order statistics from the skew logistic distibution for all sample sizes. The results become useful in determining the best linear unbiased estimators of the location and scale paramters of the skew logistic distribution. Finally, we provide an example to illustrate the usefulness of the developed model and then compare its fit with that provided by the model of van Staden and King.  相似文献
