An affine-invariant signed rank test for the difference in location between two symmetric populations is proposed. The proposed test statistic is compared with Hotelling's T2 test statistic, Mardia's(1967)test statistic, Peters-Randles(1991) test statistic and Wilcoxon's rank sum test statistic using a Monte Carlo Study. It performs better than Mardia's test statistic under almost all populations considered. Under the bivariate normal distribution, it performs better than other test statistics compared for small differences in location between two populations except Hotelling's T2. It performs better than all statistics, including Hotelling's T , for sample size 15 when samples are drawn from Pearson type.  相似文献

A strictly nonparametric bivariate test for two sample location problem is proposed. The proposed test is easy to apply and does not require the stringent condition of affine-symmetry or elliptical symmetry which is required by some of the major tests available for the same problem. The power function of the proposed test is calculated. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test statistic is found to be normal. The power of proposed test is compared with some of the well-known tests under various distributions using Monte Carlo simulation technique. The power study shows that the proposed test statistic performs better than most of the test statistics for almost all the distributions considered here. As soon as the underlying population structure deviates from normality, the ability of the proposed test statistic to detect the smallest shift in location increases as compared to its competitors. The application of the test is shown by using a data set.  相似文献

We propose a new test for the two-sample bivariate location problem. The proposed test statistic has a U-statistic representation with a degenerate kernel. The limiting distribution is found for the proposed test statistic. The power of the test is compared using Monte Carlo simulation to the tests of Blumen [I. Blumen, A new bivariate sign-test for location, Journal of the American Statistical Association 53 (1958) 448–456], Mardia [K.V. Mardia, A non-parametric test for the bivariate two-sample location problem, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B 29 (1967) 320–342], Peters and Randles [D. Peters, R.H. Randles, A bivariate signed-rank test for the two-sample location problem, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B 53 (1991) 493–504], LaRocque, Tardif and van Eeden [D. LaRocque, S. Tardif, C. van Eeden, An affine-invariant generalization of the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for the bivariate location problem, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics 45 (2003) 153–165], and Baringhaus and Franz [L. Baringhaus, C. Franz, On a new multivariate two-sample test, Journal of Multivariate Analysis 88 (2004) 190–206]. Under the bivariate normal and bivariate t distributions the proposed test was more powerful than the competitors for almost every change in location. Under the other distributions the proposed test reached the desired power of one at a faster rate than the other tests in the simulation study. Application of the test is presented using bivariate data from a synthetic and a real-life data set.  相似文献

This paper presents a new test for testing bivariate exponentiality against the bivariate new better than used (BNBU) class of non-exponential probability distributions. The test statistic is a function of U-statistics and hence asymptotically normally distributed and consistent.  相似文献

Over the years many researchers have dealt with testing the hypotheses of symmetry in univariate and multivariate distributions in the parametric and nonparametric setup. In a multivariate setup, there are several formulations of symmetry, for example, symmetry about an axis, joint symmetry, marginal symmetry, radial symmetry, symmetry about a known point, spherical symmetry, and elliptical symmetry among others. In this paper, for the bivariate case, we formulate a concept of symmetry about a straight line passing through the origin in a plane and accordingly develop a simple nonparametric test for testing the hypothesis of symmetry about a straight line. The proposed test is based on a measure of deviance between observed counts of bivariate samples in suitably defined pairs of sets. The exact null distribution and non-null distribution, for specified classes of alternatives, of the test statistics are obtained. The null distribution is tabulated for sample size from n=5 up to n=30. The null mean, null variance and the asymptotic null distributions of the proposed test statistics are also obtained. The empirical power of the proposed test is evaluated by simulating samples from the suitable class of bivariate distributions. The empirical findings suggest that the test performs reasonably well against various classes of asymmetric bivariate distributions. Further, it is advocated that the basic idea developed in this work can be easily adopted to test the hypotheses of exchangeability of bivariate random variables and also bivariate symmetry about a given axis which have been considered by several authors in the past.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to find an optimal alternative bivariate ranked-set sample for one-sample location model bivariate sign test. Our numerical and theoretical results indicated that the optimal designs for the bivariate sign test are the alternative designs with quantifying order statistics with labels {((r+1)/2, (r+1)/2)}, when the set size r is odd and {(r/2+1, r/2), (r/2, r/2+1)} when the set size r is even. The asymptotic distribution and Pitman efficiencies of these designs are derived. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the power of the proposed optimal designs. Illustration using real data with the Bootstrap algorithm for P-value estimation is used.  相似文献

The logrank test procedure for testing bivariate symmetry against asymmetry in matched-pair data is proposed. The presented test statistic is based on Mantel-Haenszel type statistics evaluated at diagonal grid points on the plane obtained from distinct uncensored failure times. The asymptotic results of the proposed test are derived and an example is shown to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献

The finite sample distribution of the likelihood ratio sta-tistic is obtained for testing independence, given marginal homo-geneity, in the absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distri-bution of Block and Basu (1974). This test is discussed in light of the analysis of Gross and Lam (1981) on times to relief of head-aches for standard and new treatments on ten subjects.  相似文献

We propose a new test for testing the equality of location parameter of two populations based on empirical distribution function (ECDF). The test statistics is obtained as a power divergence between two ECDFs. The test is shown to be distribution free, and its null distribution is obtained. We conducted empirical power comparison of the proposed test with several other available tests in the literature. We found that the proposed test performs better than its competitors considered here under several population structures. We also used two real datasets to illustrate the procedure.  相似文献

We study the performance of six proposed bivariate survival curve estimators on simulated right censored data. The performance of the estimators is compared for data generated by three bivariate models with exponential marginal distributions. The estimators are compared in their ability to estimate correlations and survival functions probabilities. Simulated data results are presented so that the proposed estimators in this relatively new area of analysis can be explicitly compared to the known distribution of the data and the parameters of the underlying model. The results show clear differences in the performance of the estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we study some characteristic properties of higher-degree bivariate stop-loss transforms (partial moments). A new bivariate distribution is proposed by extending the characterizing identity of univariate partial moments due to Lin (2003 Lin, G. D. 2003. Characterizations of the exponential distribution via the residual lifetime. Sankhyā: The Indian Journal of Statistics, Series A 65 (2):24958. [Google Scholar]) to the bivariate case. A real-data analysis is also carried out to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

We discuss a one-sample location test that can be used when the dimension and the sample size are large. It is well-known that the power of Hotelling’s test decreases when the dimension is close to the sample size. To address this loss of power, some non exact approaches were proposed, e.g., Dempster (1958 Dempster, A.P. (1958). A high dimensional two sample significance test. Ann. Math. Stat. 29:9951010.[Crossref] [Google Scholar], 1960 Dempster, A.P. (1960). A significance test for the separation of two highly multivariate small samples. Biometrics 16:4150.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), Bai and Saranadasa (1996 Bai, Z.D., Saranadasa, H. (1996). Effect of high dimension: by an example of a two sample problem. Stat. Sin. 6:311329.[Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), and Srivastava and Du (2008 Srivastava, M.S., Du, M. (2008). A test for the mean vector with fewer observations than the dimension. J. Multivariate Anal. 99:386402.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). In this article, we focus on Hotelling’s test and Dempster’s test. The comparative merits and demerits of these two tests vary according to the local parameters. In particular, we consider the situation where it is difficult to determine which test should be used, that is, where the two tests are asymptotically equivalent in terms of local power. We propose a new statistic based on the weighted averaging of Hotelling’s T2-statistic and Dempster’s statistic that can be applied in such a situation. Our weight is determined on the basis of the maximum local asymptotic power on a restricted parameter space that induces local asymptotic equivalence between Hotelling’s test and Dempster’s test. Numerical results show that our test is more stable than Hotelling’s T2-statistic and Dempster’s statistic in most parameter settings.  相似文献

Both treatment efficacy and safety are typically the primary endpoints in Phase II, and even in some Phase III, clinical trials. Efficacy is frequently measured by time to response, death, or some other milestone event and thus is a continuous, possibly censored, outcome. Safety, however, is frequently measured on a discrete scale; in Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group clinical trial E2290, it was measured as the number of weekly rounds of chemotherapy that were tolerable to colorectal cancer patients. For the joint analysis of efficacy and safety, we propose a non-parametric, computationally simple estimator for the bivariate survival function when one time-to-event is continuous, one is discrete, and both are subject to right-censoring. The bivariate censoring times may depend on each other, but they are assumed to be independent of both event times. We derive a closed-form covariance estimator for the survivor function which allows for inference to be based on any of several possible statistics of interest. In addition, we derive its covariance with respect to calendar time of analysis, allowing for its use in sequential studies.  相似文献

We study a hypothesis testing problem involving the location model suggested by Olkin and Tate (1961). Specifically, we derive a likelihood ratio lest of the associated location hypothesis as an alternative to the conventional method of carrying out separate tests for each of the parameters. A small sample Monte Carlo comparison indicates the general superiority of the former in terms of statistical power. We also comment briefly on the properties of the test.  相似文献

We present statistical procedures to test that a life distribution is bivariate exponential (BVE) against the alternative that it is bivariate harmonic new better than used in expectation (BHNBUE). We present a simulation study to compare the power the proposed test with tests proposed by Basu and Ebrahimi (1984) and Sen and Jain (1990) and we observe that the proposed test performs better than the other two tests.  相似文献

Bivariate Exponential Distribution (BVED) were introduced by Freund (1961), Marshall and Olkin (1967) and Block and Basu (1974) as models for the distributions of (X,Y) the failure times of dependent components (C1,C2). We study the structure of these models and observe that Freund model leads to a regular exponential family with a four dimensional orthogonal parameter. Marshall-Olkin model involving three parameters leads to a conditional or piece wise exponential family and Block-Basu model which also depends on three parameters is a sub-model of the Freund model and is a curved exponential family. We obtain a large sample tests for symmetry as well as independence of (X,Y) in each of these models by using the Generalized Likelihood Ratio Tests (GLRT) or tests basesd on MLE of the parameters and root n consistent estimators of their variance-covariance matrices.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new class of bivariate lifetime distributions. Let {Xi}i ? 1 and {Yi}i ? 1 be two independent sequences of independent and identically distributed positive valued random variables. Define T1 = min?(X1, …, XM) and T2 = min?(Y1, …, YN), where (M, N) has a discrete bivariate phase-type distribution, independent of {Xi}i ? 1 and {Yi}i ? 1. The joint survival function of (T1, T2) is studied.  相似文献

Bivariate integer-valued time series occur in many areas, such as finance, epidemiology, business etc. In this article, we present bivariate autoregressive integer-valued time-series models, based on the signed thinning operator. Compared to classical bivariate INAR models, the new processes have the advantage to allow for negative values for both the time series and the autocorrelation functions. Strict stationarity and ergodicity of the processes are established. The moments and the autocovariance functions are determined. The conditional least squares estimator of the model parameters is considered and the asymptotic properties of the obtained estimators are derived. An analysis of a real dataset from finance and a simulation study are carried out to assess the performance of the model.  相似文献
