In the formula of the McNemar test, a test on 2 × 2 classification tables with pairs of data, only the two categories A and D, which represent changes, are included; the retained parts B and C, which represent concordant responses, are not considered. Generally, it would be more reasonable for the significance of the changes to depend not only on A and D, but also on B and C, or on the sample size, n. To develop the test, two formulae, based on A, D, and n, and on A, D, B, C, and n, respectively, are proposed.  相似文献

It is shown that the exact null distribution of the likelihood ratio criterion for sphericity test in the p-variate normal case and the marginal distribution of the first component of a (p ? 1)-variate generalized Dirichlet model with a given set of parameters are identical. The exact distribution of the likelihood ratio criterion so obtained has a general format for every p. A novel idea is introduced here through which the complicated exact null distribution of the sphericity test criterion in multivariate statistical analysis is converted into an easily tractable marginal density in a generalized Dirichlet model. It provides a direct and easiest method of computation of p-values. The computation of p-values and a table of critical points corresponding to p = 3 and 4 are also presented.  相似文献

Trend tests in dose-response have been central problems in medicine. The likelihood ratio test is often used to test hypotheses involving a stochastic order. Stratified contingency tables are common in practice. The distribution theory of likelihood ratio test has not been full developed for stratified tables and more than two stochastically ordered distributions. Under c strata of m × r tables, for testing the conditional independence against simple stochastic order alternative, this article introduces a model-free test method and gives the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic, which is a chi-bar-squared distribution. A real data set concerning an ordered stratified table will be used to show the validity of this test method.  相似文献

Statistics R a based on power divergence can be used for testing the homogeneity of a product multinomial model. All R a have the same chi-square limiting distribution under the null hypothesis of homogeneity. R 0 is the log likelihood ratio statistic and R 1 is Pearson's X 2 statistic. In this article, we consider improvement of approximation of the distribution of R a under the homogeneity hypothesis. The expression of the asymptotic expansion of distribution of R a under the homogeneity hypothesis is investigated. The expression consists of continuous and discontinuous terms. Using the continuous term of the expression, a new approximation of the distribution of R a is proposed. A moment-corrected type of chi-square approximation is also derived. By numerical comparison, we show that both of the approximations perform much better than that of usual chi-square approximation for the statistics R a when a ≤ 0, which include the log likelihood ratio statistic.  相似文献

Abstract

Through simulation and regression, we study the alternative distribution of the likelihood ratio test in which the null hypothesis postulates that the data are from a normal distribution after a restricted Box–Cox transformation and the alternative hypothesis postulates that they are from a mixture of two normals after a restricted (possibly different) Box–Cox transformation. The number of observations in the sample is called N. The standardized distance between components (after transformation) is D = (μ2 ? μ1)/σ, where μ1 and μ2 are the component means and σ2 is their common variance. One component contains the fraction π of observed, and the other 1 ? π. The simulation results demonstrate a dependence of power on the mixing proportion, with power decreasing as the mixing proportion differs from 0.5. The alternative distribution appears to be a non-central chi-squared with approximately 2.48 + 10N ?0.75 degrees of freedom and non-centrality parameter 0.174N(D ? 1.4)2 × [π(1 ? π)]. At least 900 observations are needed to have power 95% for a 5% test when D = 2. For fixed values of D, power, and significance level, substantially more observations are necessary when π ≥ 0.90 or π ≤ 0.10. We give the estimated powers for the alternatives studied and a table of sample sizes needed for 50%, 80%, 90%, and 95% power.  相似文献

The nonparametric estimation of the Bernoulli regression function is studied. The uniform consistency conditions are established and the limit theorems are proved for continuous functionals on C[a, 1 ? a], 0 < a < 1/2.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the problem of constructing A-optimal design for polynomial regression with analytic weight function on the interval [m ? a, m + a], m, a > 0. It is shown that the structure of the optimal design depends on a and weight function only, as a close to 0. Moreover, if the weight function is an analytic function a, then a scaled version of optimal support points, and weights are analytic functions of a at a = 0. We make use of a Taylor expansion to provide a recursive procedure for calculating the A-optimal designs. Examples are presented to illustrate the procedures for computing the optimal designs.  相似文献

In this article, the asymmetric n-player gambler's ruin problem is considered, when the players use equal initial fortunes of d dollars and d euros, 1 ≤ d ≤ n + 1. In each round an unfair coin is tossed to decide the currency. The expected ruin time and the individual ruin probabilities are computed. It is proved that the ruin time and which player is ruined are independent events. Finally, some special games are simulated. The simulation results verify the validity of the proposed formulas. As an innovation, the present study makes a combination of the n-player and multi dimensional games which can be viewed as a starting point for future studies.  相似文献

A batch of M items is inspected for defectives. Suppose there are d defective items in the batch. Let d 0 be a given standard used to evaluate the quality of the population where 0 < d 0 < M. The problem of testing H 0: d < d 0 versus H 1: d ≥ d 0 is considered. It is assumed that past observations are available when the current testing problem is considered. Accordingly, the empirical Bayes approach is employed. By using information obtained from the past data, an empirical Bayes two-stage testing procedure is developed. The associated asymptotic optimality is investigated. It is proved that the rate of convergence of the empirical Bayes two-stage testing procedure is of order O (exp(? c? n)), for some constant c? > 0, where n is the number of past observations at hand.  相似文献

A clarification is given of the main result (1.1) in Communications in Statistics: Theory and Methods 34:753–766. The term {1 + 6a(r ? a)}1/3 is to be understood as sgn(1 + 6a(r ? a)) | 1 + 6a(r ? a)|1/3. The result is expressed in a more user-friendly form. An issue is raised regarding the common usage of the expression x 1/n when n is even.  相似文献

We derive likelihood ratio (LR) tests for the null hypothesis of equivalence that the normal means fall into a practical indifference zone. The LR test can easily be constructed and applied to k ≥ 2 treatments. Simulation results indicate that the LR test might be slightly anticonservative statistically, but when the sample sizes are large, it always produces the nominal level for mean configurations under the null hypothesis. More powerful than the studentized range test, the LR test is a straightforward application that requires only current existing statistical tables, with no complicated computations.  相似文献

A design d is called D-optimal if it maximizes det(M d ), and is called MS-optimal if it maximizes tr(M d ) and minimizes tr[(M d )2] among those which maximize tr(M d ), where M d stands for the information matrix produced from d under a given model. In this article, we establish a lower bound for tr[(M d )2] with respect to a main effects model, where d is an s-level symmetric orthogonal array of strength at least one. Non isomorphic two level MS-optimal orthogonal arrays of strength one with N = 10, 14, and 18 runs, non isomorphic three level MS-optimal orthogonal arrays of strength one with N = 6, 12, and 15 runs and non isomorphic four level MS-optimal orthogonal arrays of strength one with N = 12 runs are also presented.  相似文献

Abstract

The presence of a maverick judge, one whose rankings differ greatly from the other members of a panel, can result in incorrect rankings and a sense of unfairness among contestants. We develop and explore the properties of a likelihood ratio test, assuming a Mallows type distribution, for the presence of a maverick judge when each judge selects his or her best k out of n objects, k ≤ n. Detection of a maverick judge, who may be viewed as a multivariate outlier, turns out to be very difficult unless the judges are very consistent and there are repeat observations on the panel.  相似文献

By considering separately B and C, the frequencies of individuals who consistently gave positive or negative answers in before and after responses, a new revised version of McNemar's test is derived. It improves upon Lu's revised formula, which considers B and C together. When both B and C are 0, the new revised version produces the same results as McNemar's test. When one of B and C is 0, the new revised test produces the same results as Lu's version. Compared to Lu's version, the new revised test is a more complete revision of McNemar's test.  相似文献

Typical panel data models make use of the assumption that the regression parameters are the same for each individual cross-sectional unit. We propose tests for slope heterogeneity in panel data models. Our tests are based on the conditional Gaussian likelihood function in order to avoid the incidental parameters problem induced by the inclusion of individual fixed effects for each cross-sectional unit. We derive the Conditional Lagrange Multiplier test that is valid in cases where N → ∞ and T is fixed. The test applies to both balanced and unbalanced panels. We expand the test to account for general heteroskedasticity where each cross-sectional unit has its own form of heteroskedasticity. The modification is possible if T is large enough to estimate regression coefficients for each cross-sectional unit by using the MINQUE unbiased estimator for regression variances under heteroskedasticity. All versions of the test have a standard Normal distribution under general assumptions on the error distribution as N → ∞. A Monte Carlo experiment shows that the test has very good size properties under all specifications considered, including heteroskedastic errors. In addition, power of our test is very good relative to existing tests, particularly when T is not large.  相似文献

Kumar and Patel (1971) have considered the problem of testing the equality of location parameters of two exponential distributions on the basis of samples censored from above, when the scale parameters are the same and unknown. The test proposed by them is shown to be biased for n1n2, while for n1=n2 the test possesses the property of monotonicity and is equivalent to the likelihood ratio test, which is considered by Epstein and Tsao (1953) and Dubey (1963a, 1963b). Epstein and Tsao state that the test is unbiased. We may note that when the scale parameters of k exponential distributions are unknown the problem of testing the equality of location parameters is reducible to that of testing the equality of parameters in k rectangular populations for which a test and its power function were given by Khatri (1960, 1965); Jaiswal (1969) considered similar problems in his thesis. Here we extend the problem of testing the equality of k exponential distributions on the basis of samples censored from above when the scale parameters are equal and unknown, and we establish the likelihood ratio test (LET) and the union-intersection test (UIT) procedures. Using the results previously derived by Jaiswal (1969), we obtain the power function for the LET and for k= 2 show that the test possesses the property of monotonicity. The power function of the UIT is also given.  相似文献

Based on progressively Type II censored samples, we consider the estimation of R = P(Y < X) when X and Y are two independent Weibull distributions with different shape parameters, but having the same scale parameter. The maximum likelihood estimator, approximate maximum likelihood estimator, and Bayes estimator of R are obtained. Based on the asymptotic distribution of R, the confidence interval of R are obtained. Two bootstrap confidence intervals are also proposed. Analysis of a real data set is given for illustrative purposes. Monte Carlo simulations are also performed to compare the different proposed methods.  相似文献

Consider a Brownian motion with drift starting at an interior point of a random domain D in R d+1, d ≥ 1, let τ D denote the first time the Brownian motion exits from D. Estimates with exact constants for the asymptotics of log P D  > T) are given for T → ∞, depending on the shape of the domain D and the order of the drift. The problem is motivated by the model in insurance and early works of Lifshits and Shi. The methods of proof are based on the calculus of variations and early works of Li, Lifshits and Shi in the drift free case.  相似文献

Empirical likelihood ratio confidence regions based on the chi-square calibration suffer from an undercoverage problem in that their actual coverage levels tend to be lower than the nominal levels. The finite sample distribution of the empirical log-likelihood ratio is recognized to have a mixture structure with a continuous component on [0, + ∞) and a point mass at + ∞. The undercoverage problem of the Chi-square calibration is partly due to its use of the continuous Chi-square distribution to approximate the mixture distribution of the empirical log-likelihood ratio. In this article, we propose two new methods of calibration which will take advantage of the mixture structure; we construct two new mixture distributions by using the F and chi-square distributions and use these to approximate the mixture distributions of the empirical log-likelihood ratio. The new methods of calibration are asymptotically equivalent to the chi-square calibration. But the new methods, in particular the F mixture based method, can be substantially more accurate than the chi-square calibration for small and moderately large sample sizes. The new methods are also as easy to use as the chi-square calibration.  相似文献

The median absolute deviation (MAD) is known to be the M-estimator of scale with minimum gross errors sensitivity (GES) when the error distribution is known to be symmetric and strongly unimodal. The problem considered here is to find the Fisher consistent M-estimator with minimum GES when the error distribution is symmetric but not necessarily unimodal. Under some general conditions, the score function χ corresponding to the minimizing M-estimator has the form χ(x) = ?1 when |x| < a; χ(x) = c when a < |x| < b; χ(x) = 1 when |x| > b. An example is given in which the M-estimator with minimum GES does not correspond to the MAD.  相似文献
