Abstract

Augmented mixed beta regression models are suitable choices for modeling continuous response variables on the closed interval [0, 1]. The random eeceeects in these models are typically assumed to be normally distributed, but this assumption is frequently violated in some applied studies. In this paper, an augmented mixed beta regression model with skew-normal independent distribution for random effects are used. Next, we adopt a Bayesian approach for parameter estimation using the MCMC algorithm. The methods are then evaluated using some intensive simulation studies. Finally, the proposed models have applied to analyze a dataset from an Iranian Labor Force Survey.  相似文献

Abstract

The normal distribution has been playing a key role in stochastic modeling for a continuous setup. But its distribution function does not have an analytical form. Moreover, the distribution of a complex multicomponent system made of normal variates occasionally poses derivational difficulties. It may be worth exploring the possibility of developing a discrete version of the normal distribution so that the same can be used for modeling discrete data. Keeping in mind the above requirement we propose a discrete version of the continuous normal distribution. The Increasing Failure Rate property in the discrete setup has been ensured. Characterization results have also been made to establish a direct link between the discrete normal distribution and its continuous counterpart. The corresponding concept of a discrete approximator for the normal deviate has been suggested. An application of the discrete normal distributions for evaluating the reliability of complex systems has been elaborated as an alternative to simulation methods.  相似文献

Studies of risk perceived using continuous scales of [0,100] were recently introduced in psychometrics, which can be transformed to the unit interval, but the presence of zeros or ones are commonly observed. Motivated by this, we introduce a full inferential set of tools that allows for augmented and limited data modeling. We considered parameter estimation, residual analysis, influence diagnostic and model selection for zero-and/or-one augmented beta rectangular (ZOABR) regression models and their particular nested models, which is based on a new parameterization of the beta rectangular distribution. Different from other alternatives, we performed maximum-likelihood estimation using a combination of the EM algorithm (for the continuous part) and Fisher scoring algorithm (for the discrete part). Also, we perform an additional step, by considering other link functions, besides the usual logistic link, for modeling the response mean. By considering randomized quantile residuals, (local) influence diagnostics and model selection tools, we identified that the ZOABR regression model is the best one. We also conducted extensive simulations studies, which indicate that all developed tools work properly. Finally, we discuss the use of this type of models to treat psychometric data. It is worthwhile to mention that applications of the developed methods go beyond to Psychometric data. Indeed, they can be useful when the response variable in bounded, including or not the respective limits.  相似文献

A new five-parameter distribution called the beta Weibull-geometric (BWG) distribution is proposed. The new distribution is generated from the logit of a beta random variable and includes the Weibull-geometric distribution of Barreto-Souza et al. [The Weibull-geometric distribution, J. Stat. Comput. Simul. 81 (2011), pp. 645–657], beta Weibull (BW), beta exponential, exponentiated Weibull, and some other lifetime distributions as special cases. A comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution is provided. The density function can be expressed as an infinite mixture of BW densities and then we derive some mathematical properties of the new distribution from the corresponding properties of the BW distribution. The density function of the order statistics and also estimation of the stress–strength parameter are obtained using two general expressions. To estimate the model parameters, we use the maximum likelihood method and the asymptotic distribution of the estimators is also discussed. The capacity of the new distribution are examined by various tools, using two real data sets.  相似文献

The generalized standard two-sided power (GTSP) distribution was mentioned only in passing by Kotz and van Dorp Beyond Beta, Other Continuous Families of Distributions with Bounded Support and Applications, World Scientific Press, Singapore, 2004. In this paper, we shall further investigate this three-parameter distribution by presenting some novel properties and use its more general form to contrast the chronology of developments of various authors on the two-parameter TSP distribution since its initial introduction. GTSP distributions allow for J-shaped forms of its pdf, whereas TSP distributions are limited to U-shaped and unimodal forms. Hence, GTSP distributions possess the same three distributional shapes as the classical beta distributions. A novel method and algorithm for the indirect elicitation of the two-power parameters of the GTSP distribution is developed. We present a Project Evaluation Review Technique example that utilizes this algorithm and demonstrates the benefit of separate powers for the two branches of activity GTSP distributions for project completion time uncertainty estimation.  相似文献

In this article, we derive explicit expansions for the moments of beta generalized distributions from power series expansions for the quantile functions of the baseline distributions. We apply our formula to the beta normal, beta Student t, beta gamma and beta beta generalized distributions. We propose a simple way to express the quantile function of any beta generalized distribution as a power series expansion with known coefficients.  相似文献

This paper compares the five-parameter beta generalized gamma (BGG) distribution to the three-parameter generalized gamma (GG). Both distributions include the four standard hazard shapes that we believe is an important property for any parametric family. For several BGG distributions, we select matching GGs and compute the Kullback-Liebler distance, observing remarkable agreement. We explore the beta parameters' influence on the matched GG parameters, detecting a strong connection between the distributions. Lastly, we compare the distributions using two real-data examples. We conclude from these comparisons that the BGG is not likely to be more useful for analytical purposes than the simpler GG.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish the role of concomitants of order statistics in the unique identification of the parent bivariate distribution. From the results developed, we have illustrated by examples the process of determination of the parent bivariate distribution using a marginal pdf and the pdf of either of the concomitant of largest or smallest order statistic on the other variable. An application of the results derived in modeling of a bivariate distribution for data sets drawn from a population as well is discussed.  相似文献

The Weibull distribution is one of the most important distributions in reliability. For the first time, we introduce the beta exponentiated Weibull distribution which extends recent models by Lee et al. [Beta-Weibull distribution: some properties and applications to censored data, J. Mod. Appl. Statist. Meth. 6 (2007), pp. 173–186] and Barreto-Souza et al. [The beta generalized exponential distribution, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 80 (2010), pp. 159–172]. The new distribution is an important competitive model to the Weibull, exponentiated exponential, exponentiated Weibull, beta exponential and beta Weibull distributions since it contains all these models as special cases. We demonstrate that the density of the new distribution can be expressed as a linear combination of Weibull densities. We provide the moments and two closed-form expressions for the moment-generating function. Explicit expressions are derived for the mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, reliability and entropies. The density of the order statistics can also be expressed as a linear combination of Weibull densities. We obtain the moments of the order statistics. The expected information matrix is derived. We define a log-beta exponentiated Weibull regression model to analyse censored data. The estimation of the parameters is approached by the method of maximum likelihood. The usefulness of the new distribution to analyse positive data is illustrated in two real data sets.  相似文献

For the first time, we introduce the beta log-normal (LN) distribution for which the LN distribution is a special case. Various properties of the new distribution are discussed. Expansions for the cumulative distribution and density functions that do not involve complicated functions are derived. We obtain expressions for its moments and for the moments of order statistics. The estimation of parameters is approached by the method of maximum likelihood, and the expected information matrix is derived. The new model is quite flexible in analysing positive data as an important alternative to the gamma, Weibull, generalized exponential, beta exponential, and Birnbaum–Saunders distributions. The flexibility of the new distribution is illustrated in an application to a real data set.  相似文献

We consider the issue of performing accurate small sample inference in beta autoregressive moving average model, which is useful for modeling and forecasting continuous variables that assume values in the interval (0,?1). The inferences based on conditional maximum likelihood estimation have good asymptotic properties, but their performances in small samples may be poor. This way, we propose bootstrap bias corrections of the point estimators and different bootstrap strategies for confidence interval improvements. Our Monte Carlo simulations show that finite sample inference based on bootstrap corrections is much more reliable than the usual inferences. We also presented an empirical application.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a defective model induced by a frailty term for modeling the proportion of cured. Unlike most of the cure rate models, defective models have advantage of modeling the cure rate without adding any extra parameter in model. The introduction of an unobserved heterogeneity among individuals has bring advantages for the estimated model. The influence of unobserved covariates is incorporated using a proportional hazard model. The frailty term assumed to follow a gamma distribution is introduced on the hazard rate to control the unobservable heterogeneity of the patients. We assume that the baseline distribution follows a Gompertz and inverse Gaussian defective distributions. Thus we propose and discuss two defective distributions: the defective gamma-Gompertz and gamma-inverse Gaussian regression models. Simulation studies are performed to verify the asymptotic properties of the maximum likelihood estimator. Lastly, in order to illustrate the proposed model, we present three applications in real data sets, in which one of them we are using for the first time, related to a study about breast cancer in the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center, São Paulo, Brazil.  相似文献

This paper addresses the modelling of a beta distribution based on quantile pairs. The elicited beta distribution is proved to exist uniquely for any given two-quantile pairs. By combining the results of this study with the research documented in the literature, we concluded that for any given two-quantile pairs, there is one and only one beta distribution fits the two specified quantile pairs. The numerical results that verify this finding were obtained by comprehensively examining 1300 two-quantile pairs. The first four moments of the fitted beta distribution were also derived numerically using these two-quantile pairs. The variations in the first four moments, which reflect the perception of uncertainty, were plotted and were explored.  相似文献

The inverse Weibull distribution is one of the widely applied distribution for problems in reliability theory. In this article, we introduce a generalization—referred to as the Beta Inverse-Weibull distribution—generated from the logit of a beta random variable. We provide a comprehensive treatment of the mathematical properties of the Beta Inverse-Weibull distribution. The shapes of the corresponding probability density function and the hazard rate function have been obtained and graphical illustrations have been given. The distribution is found to be unimodal. Results for the non central moments are obtained. The relationship between the parameters and the mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis are provided. The method of maximum likelihood is proposed for estimating the model parameters. We hope that this generalization will attract wider applicability to the problems in reliability theory and mechanical engineering.  相似文献

In this paper a bivariate beta regression model with joint modeling of the mean and dispersion parameters is proposed, defining the bivariate beta distribution from Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern (FGM) copulas. This model, that can be generalized using other copulas, is a good alternative to analyze non-independent pairs of proportions and can be fitted applying standard Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. Results of two applications of the proposed model in the analysis of structural and real data set are included.  相似文献

A multivariate generalized beta distribution is introduced that extends the univariate generalized beta distribution and includes many multivariate distributions, such as the multivariate beta of the first and second kind, the generalized gamma, and the Burr and Dirichlet distributions as special and limiting cases. These interrelationships can be illustrated using a distributional family tree. The corresponding marginal distributions are univariate generalized beta distributions and their special cases. Selected expressions for the moments are reported, and an application to the joint distribution of income and wealth is presented. A simple transformation of the multivariate generalized beta distribution leads to what will be referred to as a multivariate exponential generalized beta distribution, which includes a multivariate form of the logistics and Burr distributions as special cases.  相似文献

The inverted generalized exponential distribution is defined as an alternative model for lifetime data. The existence of moments of this distribution is shown to hold under some restrictions. However, all the moments exist for the truncated inverted generalized exponential distribution and closed-form expressions for them are derived in this article. The distributional properties of this truncated distribution are studied. Maximum likelihood estimation method is discussed for the estimation of the parameters of the distribution both theoretically and empirically. In order to see the modeling performance of the distribution, two real datasets are analyzed.  相似文献

As the Watson distribution is frequently used for modeling axial data, it is important to investigate the existence of possible outliers in samples from this distribution. Then, we develop for the bipolar Watson distribution defined on the hypersphere, some tests of discordancy of an outlier or several outliers en bloc based on the likelihood ratio, supposing an alternative model of contamination of slippage type. We evaluate the performance of these tests of discordancy of an outlier and we also compare some tests of discordancy of an outlier available for this distribution.  相似文献

The two-sided power (TSP) distribution is a flexible two-parameter distribution having uniform, power function and triangular as sub-distributions, and it is a reasonable alternative to beta distribution in some cases. In this work, we introduce the TSP-binomial model which is defined as a mixture of binomial distributions, with the binomial parameter p having a TSP distribution. We study its distributional properties and demonstrate its use on some data. It is shown that the newly defined model is a useful candidate for overdispersed binomial data.  相似文献

In this paper, a new distribution, generalized Log-Lindley distribution, which supports on (0, 1) is introduced as an alternative to the beta distribution. We show the new proposed distribution is also an extension of Log-Lindley distribution. Stochastic comparison for two parallel systems with generalized Log-Lindley distributed components is considered. Our results extend some existing results in the literature.  相似文献
