The positive false discovery rate was introduced by Storey (2003) as an alternative to the family wise error rate for the case in which we are simultaneously testing a large amount of hypotheses. The positive false discovery rate has a very nice Bayesian interpretation (as it was shown by Storey, 2003) and its robustness is analyzed. The emphasis is on the ε-contamination class (one of the most used classes of priors for Bayesian robustness) and it is shown that robustness is not obtained when the basic prior concentrates the probability on the null hypothesis. 相似文献

To develop estimators with stronger efficiencies than the trimmed means which use the empirical quantile, Kim (1992) and Chen & Chiang (1996), implicitly or explicitly used the symmetric quantile, and thus introduced new trimmed means for location and linear regression models, respectively. This study further investigates the properties of the symmetric quantile and extends its application in several aspects. (a) The symmetric quantile is more efficient than the empirical quantiles in asymptotic variances when quantile percentage α is either small or large. This reveals that for any proposal involving the α th quantile of small or large α s, the symmetric quantile is the right choice; (b) a trimmed mean based on it has asymptotic variance achieving a Cramer-Rao lower bound in one heavy tail distribution; (c) an improvement of the quantiles-based control chart by Grimshaw & Alt (1997) is discussed; (d) Monte Carlo simulations of two new scale estimators based on symmetric quantiles also support this new quantile. 相似文献

A proposed method based on frailty models is used to identify longitudinal biomarkers or surrogates for a multivariate survival. This method is an extention of earlier models by Wulfsohn and Tsiatis (1997) and Song et al. (2002). In this article, similar to Henderson et al. (2002), a joint likelihood function combines the likelihood functions of the longitudinal biomarkers and the multivariate survival times. We use simulations to explore how the number of individuals, the number of time points per individual and the functional form of the random effects from the longitudianl biomarkers influence the power to detect the association of a longitudinal biomarker and the multivariate survival time. The proposed method is illustrate by using the gastric cancer data. 相似文献

We propose a class of estimators for the population mean when there are missing data in the data set. Obtaining the mean square error equations of the proposed estimators, we show the conditions where the proposed estimators are more efficient than the sample mean, ratio-type estimators, and the estimators in Singh and Horn (2000) and Singh and Deo (2003) in the case of missing data. These conditions are also supported by a numerical example. 相似文献

The main object of this article is to propose an extension of the tobit model for which the error distribution follows the power-normal distribution (Gupta and Gupta, 2008). Inference is dealt with by using the likelihood approach. Simulation studies and application to a real data set are used to demonstrate the usefulness of the extension. 相似文献

The purpose of this article is to develop algorithms for computing the exact Fisher information matrix of periodic time-varying state-space models. We first present a relatively simple recursive algorithm which computes the elements of the exact information matrix without involving numerical differentiation, since all required derivatives are analytically evaluated. The proposed algorithm extends the procedure due to Cavanaugh and Shumway (1996) to the periodic state-space framework. Exploiting the approach used in Klein et al. (2000), a second algorithm is proposed in order to obtain the exact information matrix as a whole instead of element by element. The algorithms are first developed in a general framework and then specialized to the case of a periodic Gaussian vector autoregressive moving-average (PVARMA) model. 相似文献

Shared frailty models are often used to model heterogeneity in survival analysis. The most common shared frailty model is a model in which hazard function is a product of random factor (frailty) and baseline hazard function which is common to all individuals. There are certain assumptions about the baseline distribution and distribution of frailty. In this article, we consider inverse Gaussian distribution as frailty distribution and three different baseline distributions namely, Weibull, generalized exponential, and exponential power distribution. With these three baseline distributions, we propose three different inverse Gaussian shared frailty models. To estimate the parameters involved in these models we adopt Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach. We present a simulation study to compare the true values of the parameters with the estimated values. Also, we apply these three models to a real life bivariate survival data set of McGilchrist and Aisbett (1991) related to kidney infection and a better model is suggested for the data. 相似文献

In Desmet and Gijbels (2009), the problem of curve fitting on functions with peaks was addressed and a method was proposed that was building further on the one used in Gijbels et al. (2007) when dealing with functions that have jump discontinuities. In this article, we propose a common framework for both estimation problems and an integrated procedure where an appropriate diagnostic quantity is a key ingredient. In particular we discuss practical procedure parameter selection considering target functions with an unknown number of irregularities of unknown type. The method is illustrated both on simulated and real life data sets. 相似文献

The Significance Analysis of Microarrays (SAM; Tusher et al., 2001) method is widely used in analyzing gene expression data while controlling the FDR by using resampling-based procedure in the microarray setting. One of the main components of the SAM procedure is the adjustment of the test statistic. The introduction of the fudge factor to the test statistic aims at deflating the large value of test statistics due to the small standard error of gene-expression. Lin et al. (2008) pointed out that the fudge factor does not effectively improve the power and the control of the FDR as compared to the SAM procedure without the fudge factor in the presence of small variance genes. Motivated by the simulation results presented in Lin et al. (2008), in this article, we extend our study to compare several methods for choosing the fudge factor in the modified t-type test statistics and use simulation studies to investigate the power and the control of the FDR of the considered methods. 相似文献

Difference-based estimators for the error variance are popular since they do not require the estimation of the mean function. Unlike most existing difference-based estimators, new estimators proposed by Müller et al. (2003) and Tong and Wang (2005) achieved the asymptotic optimal rate as residual-based estimators. In this article, we study the relative errors of these difference-based estimators which lead to better understanding of the differences between them and residual-based estimators. To compute the relative error of the covariate-matched U-statistic estimator proposed by Müller et al. (2003), we develop a modified version by using simpler weights. We further investigate its asymptotic property for both equidistant and random designs and show that our modified estimator is asymptotically efficient. 相似文献

This paper suggests an efficient class of ratio and product estimators for estimating the population mean in stratified random sampling using auxiliary information. It is interesting to mention that, in addition to many, Koyuncu and Kadilar (2009), Kadilar and Cingi (2003, 2005), and Singh and Vishwakarma (2007) estimators are identified as members of the proposed class of estimators. The expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE) of the proposed estimators are derived under large sample approximation in general form. Asymptotically optimum estimator (AOE) in the class is identified alongwith its MSE formula. It has been shown that the proposed class of estimators is more efficient than combined regression estimator and Koyuncu and Kadilar (2009) estimator. Moreover, theoretical findings are supported through a numerical example. 相似文献

We consider the discriminant rule in a high-dimensional setting, i.e., when the number of feature variables p is comparable to or larger than the number of observations N. The discriminant rule must be modified in order to cope with singular sample covariance matrix in high-dimension. One way to do so is by considering the Moor-Penrose inverse matrix. Recently, Srivastava (2006) proposed maximum likelihood ratio rule by using Moor-Penrose inverse matrix of sample covariance matrix. In this article, we consider the linear discriminant rule by using Moor-Penrose inverse matrix of sample covariance matrix (LDRMP). With the discriminant rule, the expected probability of misclassification (EPMC) is commonly used as measure of the classification accuracy. We investigate properties of EPMC for LDRMP in high-dimension as well as the one of the maximum likelihood rule given by Srivastava (2006). From our asymptotic results, we show that the classification accuracy of LDRMP depends on new distance. Additionally, our asymptotic result is verified by using the Monte Carlo simulation. 相似文献

We develop a series of Bayesian statistical models for estimating survival of a neotropic didelphid marsupial, the Brazilian gracile mouse opossum (Gracilinanus microtarsus). These models are based on the Cormack–Jolly–Seber model (Cormack, 1964; Jolly 1965; Seber 1965) with both survival and recapture rates expressed as a function of covariates using a logit link. The proposed models allow taking into account heterogeneity in capture probability caused by the existence of different groups of individuals in the population. The models were applied to two cohorts (Cohort, 2000, 2001) with the first one including 14 and the second one 15 sampling occasions. The best models for each of the cohorts indicate that G. microtarsus is best described as partially semelparous, a condition in which mortality after the first mating is high but graded over time, with a fraction of males surviving for a second breeding season (Boonstra, 2005). 相似文献

This article proposes a new nonparametric test for the ordered alternatives problem in the k-sample setting for null hypothesis of lack of trend. This article further elaborates upon and extends the results of Ledwina and Wy?upek (2012a) obtained for k = 2. Simulations show that the new test has high and stable power and is able to control the Type I error to satisfactory extent, thus solving the problem posed in Terpstra and Magel (2003). Our theoretical results say that asymptotic errors of both kinds do not exceed significance level, thus implying that the test is asymptotically unbiased. 相似文献

In this article, we obtained a dependence measure for generalized Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern (FGM) family in view of Kochar and Gupta (1987) and then compared this measure with Spearman's rho and Kendall's tau in FGM family. Moreover, we evaluated the empirical power of the class of distribution-free tests proposed by Kochar and Gupta (1987, 1990) based on exact distribution of a U-statistics. This is derived via a simulation study for sample of sizes n = 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, and 20. Also, we compared our simulation results with those achieved by Amini et al. (2010) and Güven and Kotz (2008). 相似文献

Asymptotic Properties of Conditional Quantile Estimator Under Left-Truncated and α-Mixing Conditions
In this article, we establish strong uniform convergence and asymptotic normality of estimators of conditional quantile and conditional distribution function for a left truncated model when the data exhibit some kind of dependence. It is assumed that the observations form a stationary α-mixing sequence. The results of Lemdani et al. (2009) are relaxed from the i.i.d. assumption to α-mixing setting. Finite sample behavior of the estimators is investigated via simulations as well. 相似文献

Extending the bifurcating autoregressive (BAR) process (cf. Cowan and Staudte, 1986) to multi-casting (multi-splitting) data, Hwang and Choi (2009) introduced multi-casting autoregression (MCAR, for short) defined on multi-casting tree structured data. This article is concerned with the case when the MCAR model is partially specified only through conditional mean and variance without directly imposing autoregressive (AR) structure. The resulting class of models will be referred to as P-MCAR (partially specified MCAR). The P-MCAR considerably enlarges the class of multi-casting models including (as special cases) MCAR, random coefficient MCAR, conditionally heteroscedastic multi-casting models and binomial-thinning processes. Moment structures for this broad P-MCAR class are investigated. Least squares (LS) estimation method is discussed and asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) of the generalized-LS over ordinary-LS is obtained in a closed form. A simulation study is conducted to illustrate results. 相似文献

There have been many alternative strategies for implementing sampling survey on quantitative characteristic of sensitive issues by using randomized response (RR) technique. The efficiency of most of those strategies has been improved by choosing the suitable design parameters of model. However, the two different procedures with pre-assigned design parameter values cannot ensure that they possess the same protection degree to the respondents. Some earlier comparisons of those strategies are inadequate (as in Eichhorn and Hayre, 1983; Gupta et al., 2002). Some literature contains a more comprehensive comparison based on efficiency and protection degree to the respondents among the qualitative characteristic RR techniques (see Bhargava and Singh, 2002; Nayak, 1994; Zaizai and Zankan, 2004). As far as the comparisons are concerned that are based on efficiency and protection degree to the respondents among the quantitative characteristic RR techniques, very few related studies have been found so far. The purpose of this article is to give a more adequate comparison among those earlier quantitative characteristic RR strategies. It is found that several important differences between the results obtained in this article and some known results exist. Therefore, these earlier RR strategies should be reevaluated. 相似文献

Gadre and Rattihalli [5] have introduced the Modified Group Runs (MGR) control chart to identify the increases in fraction non-conforming and to detect shifts in the process mean. The MGR chart reduces the out-of-control average time-to-signal (ATS), as compared with most of the well-known control charts. In this article, we develop the Side Sensitive Modified Group Runs (SSMGR) chart to detect shifts in the process mean. With the help of numerical examples, it is illustrated that the SSMGR chart performs better than the Shewhart's X¯ chart, the synthetic chart [12], the Group Runs chart [4], the Side Sensitive Group Runs chart [6], as well as the MGR chart [5]. In some situations it is also superior to the Cumulative Sum chart p9] and the exponentially weighed moving average chart [10]. In the steady state also, its performance is better than the above charts. 相似文献

Censored data arise naturally in a number of fields, particularly in problems of reliability and survival analysis. There are several types of censoring, in this article, we will confine ourselves to the right randomly censoring type. Recently, Ahmadi et al. (2010) considered the problem of estimating unknown parameters in a general framework based on the right randomly censored data. They assumed that the survival function of the censoring time is free of the unknown parameter. This assumption is sometimes inappropriate. In such cases, a proportional odds (PO) model may be more appropriate (Lam and Leung, 2001). Under this model, in this article, point and interval estimations for the unknown parameters are obtained. Since it is important to check the adequacy of models upon which inferences are based (Lawless, 2003, p. 465), two new goodness-of-fit tests for PO model based on right randomly censored data are proposed. The proposed procedures are applied to two real data sets due to Smith (2002). A Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to carry out the behavior of the estimators obtained. 相似文献
