The Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K–S) one-sided and two-sided tests of goodness of fit based on the test statistics D+ n D? n and Dn are equivalent to tests based on taking the cumulative probability of the i–th order statistic of a sample of size n to be (i–.5)/n. Modified test statistics C+ n, C? n and Cn are obtained by taking the cumulative probability to be i/(n+l). More generally, the cumula-tive probability may be taken to be (i?δ)/(n+l?2δ), as suggested by Blom (1958), where 0 less than or equal δ less than or equal .5. Critical values of the test statis-tics can be found by interpolating inversely in tables of the proba-bility integrals obtained by setting a=l/(n+l?2δ) in an expression given by Pyke (1959). Critical values for the D's (corresponding to δ=.5) have been tabulated to 5DP by Miller (1956) for n=1(1)100. The authors have made analogous tabulations for the C's (corresponding to δ=0) [previously tabulated by Durbin (1969) for n=1(1)60(2)100] and for the test statistics E+ n, E? n and En corresponding to δ f.3. They have also made a Monte Carlo comparison of the power of the modified tests with that of the K–S test for several hypothetical distributions. In a number of cases, the power of the modified tests is greater than that of the K–S test, especially when the standard deviation is greater under the alternative than under the null hypo-thesis.  相似文献

G = F k (k > 1); G = 1 − (1−F) k (k < 1); G = F k (k < 1); and G = 1 − (1−F) k (k > 1), where F and G are two continuous cumulative distribution functions. If an optimal precedence test (one with the maximal power) is determined for one of these four classes, the optimal tests for the other classes of alternatives can be derived. Application of this is given using the results of Lin and Sukhatme (1992) who derived the best precedence test for testing the null hypothesis that the lifetimes of two types of items on test have the same distibution. The test has maximum power for fixed κ in the class of alternatives G = 1 − (1−F) k , with k < 1. Best precedence tests for the other three classes of Lehmann-type alternatives are derived using their results. Finally, a comparison of precedence tests with Wilcoxon's two-sample test is presented. The analysis of a general k-factor factorial experiment having unequal numbers of observations per cell is complex. For the special case of a 2 k experiment with unequal numbers of observations per cell, the method of unweighted means provides a simple vehicle for analysis that requires no matrix inversion and can be used with existing software programs for the analysis of balanced data. All numerator sums of squares for testing main effects and interactions are χ2 with one degree of freedom. In addition, for tests having one degree of freedom in any factorial experiment, the method of unweighted means may be modified to yield exact tests.  相似文献

In this article, three methods of combining dependent univariate tests are studied. The Bahadur approximate efficiencies are derived under the asymptotic normal assumption. These procedures are applied to the multivariate location problem and compared with two Hotelling-type tests. A Monte Carlo study indicates that in certain cases the powers of the combination methods are much better than Hotelling's T 2 and other multivariate nonparametric tests.  相似文献

Tail probabilities from three independent hypothesis tests can be combined to form a test statistic of the form P1,P2 θ2,P3 θ3.The null distribution of the combined test statistic is presented and critical values for α=0.01 and 0.05 are provided. The power of this test is discussed for the special case ofthree independent F-tests.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of testing the null hypothesis H0 that a random sample of size n is from a distribution with the completely specified continuous cumulative distribution function Fn(x). Kolmogorov-type tests for H0 are based on the statistics C+ n = Sup[Fn(x)?F0(x)] and C? n=Sup[F0(x)?Fn(x)], where Fn(x) is an empirical distribution function. Let F(x) be the true cumulative distribution function, and consider the ordered alternative H1: F(x)≥F0(x) for all x and with strict inequality for some x. Although it is natural to reject H0 and accept H1 if C + n is large, this article shows that a test that is superior in some ways rejects F0 and accepts H1 if Cmdash n is small. Properties of the two tests are compared based on theoretical results and simulated results.  相似文献

In this article the properties of a general univariate JiT-sample rank tests for complete block designs are investigated. Especially, the asymptotic distribution of the test .statistic under H0 and under contiguous alternatives is derived. Some asymptotic relative'PITMAN efficiencies are computed.

The asymptotic distributions of two tests for sphericity:the locally most powerful invariant test and the likelihood ratio test are derived under the general alternaties ∑?σ2 I. The powers of these two tests are then compared when the data are from a trivariate normal population. The bootstrap method is also used to obtain the powers and the powers obtained by this method agree with those from the asymptotic distributions.  相似文献

Lachin [1981] and Lachin and Foulkes [1986] consider two groups of identically independently exponentially distributed random variables and four models of data sampling. The test problem they treat is to decide whether the two distributions are identical (null-hypothesis H0) or not (alternative hypothesis H1). Basing the test on maximum-likelihood estimators and their asymptotic normal densities they obtain formulae for the group sizes necessary to yield asymptotic tests with guaranteed power under a prescribed level for specified hypotheses. It is intuitively reasonable to expect the sizes decrease the more the hypotheses differ. It the distance betwen H0 and H1 is measured by the difference of the exponential parameters this assumption time or the deviation of the exponential parameter ratio from unity is the measure larger distances between the hypotheses do not necessarily lead to smaller sample sizes.  相似文献

We consider a 2r factorial experiment with at least two replicates. Our aim is to find a confidence interval for θ, a specified linear combination of the regression parameters (for the model written as a regression, with factor levels coded as ?1 and 1). We suppose that preliminary hypothesis tests are carried out sequentially, beginning with the rth‐order interaction. After these preliminary hypothesis tests, a confidence interval for θ with nominal coverage 1 ?α is constructed under the assumption that the selected model had been given to us a priori. We describe a new efficient Monte Carlo method, which employs conditioning for variance reduction, for estimating the minimum coverage probability of the resulting confidence interval. The application of this method is demonstrated in the context of a 23 factorial experiment with two replicates and a particular contrast θ of interest. The preliminary hypothesis tests consist of the following two‐step procedure. We first test the null hypothesis that the third‐order interaction is zero against the alternative hypothesis that it is non‐zero. If this null hypothesis is accepted, we assume that this interaction is zero and proceed to the second step; otherwise, we stop. In the second step, for each of the second‐order interactions we test the null hypothesis that the interaction is zero against the alternative hypothesis that it is non‐zero. If this null hypothesis is accepted, we assume that this interaction is zero. The resulting confidence interval, with nominal coverage probability 0.95, has a minimum coverage probability that is, to a good approximation, 0.464. This shows that this confidence interval is completely inadequate.  相似文献

Abstract.  A common statistical problem involves the testing of a K -dimensional parameter vector. In both parametric and semiparametric settings, two types of directional tests – linear combination and constrained tests – are frequently used instead of omnibus tests in hopes of achieving greater power for specific alternatives. In this paper, we consider the relationship between these directional tests, as well as their relationship to omnibus tests. Every constrained directional test is shown to be asymptotically equivalent to a specific linear combination test under a sequence of contiguous alternatives and vice versa. Even when the direction of the alternative is known, the constrained test in general will not be optimal unless the objective function used to derive it is efficient. For an arbitrary alternative, insight into the power characteristics of directional tests in comparison to omnibus tests can be gained by a chi-square partition of the omnibus test.  相似文献

Lehmann & Stein (1948) proved the existence of non-similar tests which can be more powerful than best similar tests. They used Student's problem of testing for a non-zero mean given a random sample from the normal distribution with unknown variance as an example. This raises the question: should we use a non-similar test instead of Student's t test? Questions like this can be answered by comparing the power of the test with the power envelope. This paper discusses the difficulties involved in computing power envelopes. It reports an empirical comparison of the power of the t test and the power envelope and finds that the two are almost identical especially for sample sizes greater than 20. These findings suggest that, as well as being uniformly most powerful (UMP) within the class of similar tests, Student's t test is approximately UMP within the class of all tests. For practical purposes it might also be regarded as UMP when moderate or large sample sizes are involved.  相似文献

A new multivariate approach to quality control is presented. On the basis of sequential probability ratio tests, a multivariate cumulative sum chart is derived. Using an approximation to the noncentral x2 distribution, a linear decision rule is obtained.  相似文献

This paper gives matrix formilae for the O(n-1 ) cerrecti0n applicable to asymptotically efficient conditional moment tests. These formulae only require expectations of functions involving, at most, second order derivatives of the log-likelihood; unlike those previously providcd by Ferrari and Corddro(1994). The correction is used to assess the reliability of first order asymptotic theory for arbitrary residual-based diagnostics in a class of accelerated failure time models: this correction is always parameter free, depending only on the number of included covariates in the regression design. For all but one of the tests considered, first order theory is found to be extremely unreliable, even in quite large samples, although this may not be widely appreciated by applied workers.  相似文献

Abstract

The power of Pearson's overall goodness-of-fit test and the components-of-chi-squared or “Pearson analog” tests of Anderson [Anderson, G. (1994). Simple tests of distributional form. J. Econometrics 62:265–276] to detect rejections due to shifts in location, scale, skewness and kurtosis is studied, as the number and position of the partition points is varied. Simulations are conducted for small and moderate sample sizes. It is found that smaller numbers of classes than are used in practice may be appropriate, and that the choice of non-equiprobable classes can result in substantial gains in power.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The one-sample Wilcoxon signed rank test was originally designed to test for a specified median, under the assumption that the distribution is symmetric, but it can also serve as a test for symmetry if the median is known. In this article we derive the Wilcoxon statistic as the first component of Pearson's X 2 statistic for independence in a particularly constructed contingency table. The second and third components are new test statistics for symmetry. In the second part of the article, the Wilcoxon test is extended so that symmetry around the median and symmetry in the tails can be examined seperately. A trimming proportion is used to split the observations in the tails from those around the median. We further extend the method so that no arbitrary choice for the trimming proportion has to be made. Finally, the new tests are compared to other tests for symmetry in a simulation study. It is concluded that our tests often have substantially greater powers than most other tests.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is threefold. First, variance components testing for ANOVA ‐type mixed models is considered, in which response may not be divided into independent sub‐vectors, whereas most of existing methods are for models where response can be divided into independent sub‐vectors. Second, testing that a certain subset of variance components is zero. Third, as normality is often violated in practice, it is desirable to construct tests under very mild assumptions. To achieve these goals, an adaptive difference‐based test and an adaptive trace‐based test are constructed. The test statistics are asymptotically normal under the null hypothesis, are consistent against all global alternatives and can detect local alternatives distinct from the null at a rate as close to n ? 1 ∕ 2 as possible with n being the sample size. Moreover, when the dimensions of variance components in different sets are bounded, we develop a test with chi‐square as its limiting null distribution. The finite sample performance of the tests is examined via simulations, and a real data set is analysed for illustration.  相似文献

The problem of goodness of fit of a lognormal distribution is usually reduced to testing goodness of fit of the logarithmic data to a normal distribution. In this paper, new goodness-of-fit tests for a lognormal distribution are proposed. The new procedures make use of a characterization property of the lognormal distribution which states that the Kullback–Leibler measure of divergence between a probability density function (p.d.f) and its r-size weighted p.d.f is symmetric only for the lognormal distribution [Tzavelas G, Economou P. Characterization properties of the log-normal distribution obtained with the help of divergence measures. Stat Probab Lett. 2012;82(10):1837–1840]. A simulation study examines the performance of the new procedures in comparison with existing goodness-of-fit tests for the lognormal distribution. Finally, two well-known data sets are used to illustrate the methods developed.  相似文献

Exact powers of four classical tests in a GMANOVA model are compared numerically when the order of the error sum of square matrix is 2. The four tests are likelihood ratio (=LR), Pillai's V, Hotelling's T 2, and Roy's largest root tests. It turns out that for small sizes, there are a few cases in which Rothenberg's condition for the relative magnitude of asymptotic powers of three standard tests does not hold.  相似文献
