A test statistic for examining the equality of an individual eigenvalue in two populations of high dimension is proposed. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed statistic is derived and the validity of the permutation test is discussed. Simulations were used to investigate the power of the suggested statistic. The proposed statistic is applied to hand measurement data on white and aboriginal Australians to test the equality of the eigenvalues.  相似文献

Trend tests in dose-response have been central problems in medicine. The likelihood ratio test is often used to test hypotheses involving a stochastic order. Stratified contingency tables are common in practice. The distribution theory of likelihood ratio test has not been full developed for stratified tables and more than two stochastically ordered distributions. Under c strata of m × r tables, for testing the conditional independence against simple stochastic order alternative, this article introduces a model-free test method and gives the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic, which is a chi-bar-squared distribution. A real data set concerning an ordered stratified table will be used to show the validity of this test method.  相似文献

The authors derive the analytic expressions for the mean and variance of the log-likelihood ratio for testing equality of k (k ≥ 2) normal populations, and suggest a chi-square approximation and a gamma approximation to the exact null distribution. In this article, we consider two independent zero-inflated power series distributions and provide likelihood ratio test for equality of inflation parameters of the same. As an illustration, testing equality of inflation parameters of two zero inflated Poisson distributions is provided. The set of all distinct blocks of a BIBD(v,b,r,k,λ) is referred to as the support of the design. In this paper, the family of BIB designs with v=9 and k=3 is studied from the view of possible support sizes, b*'s. A table is constructed of designs with support sizes belonging to {12,18,20,21,…,84}, for minimum possible b in each case and for any larger admissible b. We consider a class of test statistics including the Dempster trace criterion in the case of two groups without assuming equal covariance matrices. The test statistics in the class are valid when the dimension is larger than the sample size. We obtain asymptotic distributions of the test statistics in the class and use these distributions to derive the limiting power in each case. 本文采用似然比类检验统计量进行面板单位根检验(简称为LR检验)研究,在局部备择假设成立的条件下,推导了其在无确定项、仅含截距项以及存在线性时间趋势项三种模型下所对应的渐近分布与局部渐近势函数。Monte Carlo模拟结果显示,当面板数据中含确定项(截距项或时间趋势项)时,LR检验水平比LLC和IPS检验水平更接近于给定的显著性检验水平;此外,当面板数据中包含发散个体时,经水平修正后的LR检验势要远远高于经水平修正后的LLC与IPS检验势,其中,经水平修正后的LLC与IPS检验势接近于零。  相似文献

The paper derives Bartlett corrections for improving the chisquare approximation to the likelihood ratio statistics in a class of location-scale family of distributions, which encompasses the elliptical family of distributions and also asymmetric distributions such as the extreme value distributions. We present, in matrix notation, a Bartlett corrected likelihood ratio statistic for testing that a subset of the nonlinear regression coefficients in this class of models equals a given vector of constants. The formulae derived are simple enough to be used analytically to obtain several Bartlett corrections in a variety of important models. We show that these formulae generalize a number of previously published results. We also present simulation results comparing the sizes and powers of the usual likelihood ratio tests and their Bartlett corrected versions when the scale parameter is considered known and when this parameter is uncorrectly specified.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the change-point hazard rate model which arises quite commonly in mechanical or biological systems, which experience a high hazard rate early in their lifetime due to infant mortality and then a constant or steady hazard rate after the threshold time. We first derive the corresponding mean residual life function (MRLF) and observe that the MRLF is initially increasing and then constant. Here, we derive a test statistic for exponentiality against Increasing Initially then Constant Mean Residual Life (ICMRL). We also derive the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic and compare the power of the test with other existing tests such as likelihood ratio, Weibull, and Log gamma tests considered in the literature. The test performs quite well as compared to other alternatives studied.  相似文献

Exponential and Weibull models are commonly used models with former being the special case of the latter. In their most general forms, the exponential model involves both threshold and scale parameters whereas the Weibull model involves threshold, scale and shape parameters. The article analyzes the two models in a Bayesian framework and examines the feasibility of generality versus particularity in the sense that it tests for the possibility of (not) having a threshold and/or a shape parameter in the data arising from exponential (Weibull) model. The inverse Gaussian family of non negative, skewed random variables is analytically simple, and its inference theory is well known to be analogous to the normal theory in numerous ways. Hence, it is widely used for modeling non negative positively skewed data. In this note, we consider the problem of testing homogeneity of order restricted means of several inverse Gaussian populations with a common unknown scale parameter using an approach based on the classical methods, such as Fisher's, for combining independent tests. Unlike the likelihood approach which can only be readily applied to a limited number of restrictions and the settings of equal sample sizes, this approach is applicable to problems involving a broad variety of order restrictions and arbitrary sample size settings, and most importantly, no new null distributions are needed. An empirical power study shows that, in case of the simple order, the test based on Fisher's combination method compares reasonably with the corresponding likelihood ratio procedure.  相似文献

We develop tests of hypothesis about symmetry based on samples from possibly asymmetric Laplace distributions and present exact and limiting distribution of the test statistics. We postulate that the test statistic derived under the Laplace model is a rational choice as a measure of skewness and can be used in testing symmetry for other, quite general classes of skew distributions. Our results are applied to foreign exchange rates for 15 currencies.  相似文献

For testing separate families of hypotheses, the likelihood ratio test does not have the usual asymptotic properties. This paper considers the asymptotic distribution of the ratio of maximized likelihoods (RML) statistic in the special case of testing separate scale or location-scale families of distributions. We derive saddlepoint approximations to the density and tail probabilities of the log of the RML statistic. These approximations are based on the expansion of the log of the RML statistic up to the second order, which is shown not to depend on the location and scale parameters. The resulting approximations are applied in several cases, including normal versus Laplace, normal versus Cauchy, and Weibull versus log-normal. Our results show that the saddlepoint approximations are satisfactory, even for fairly small sample sizes, and are more accurate than normal approximations and Edgeworth approximations, especially for tail probabilities that are the values of main interest in hypothesis testing problems.  相似文献

We consider the problem of testing normality against the logistic distribution, based on a random sample of observations. Since the two families are separate (non nested), the ratio of maximized likelihoods (RML) statistic does not have the usual asymptotic chi-square distribution. We derive the saddlepoint approximation to the distribution of the RML statistic and show that this approximation is more accurate than the normal and Edgeworth approximations, especially for tail probabilities that are the main values of interest in hypothesis testing. Consider the problem of testing the isotonic of several p-variate normal mean vectors against all alternatives. It is difficult to compute the exact p-value for this problem of testing with the classical method when the covariance matrices are completely unknown. In the present paper, a test statistic is proposed for this problem of testing. A reformulation of the test statistic is given based on the orthogonal projections on the closed convex cones and then the upper bound for p-value of the test statistic is computed.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to present a new test for the detection of size-bias in a sample with or without censored observations. The test is simple in the form and demands only the knowledge of consistent estimators of any nuisance parameters appeared in the model. With the use of simulated samples from the Weibull distribution, we show the advantages of the new test compared to the Likelihood Ratio and the Wald test.  相似文献
