This article investigates parallel systems with n independent but not identically distributed (INID) components. Under the condition that, at time t 1 (t 1 > 0) the total number of failures of the components is r (r < n), and at time t 2 (t 2 ≥ t 1) the sys-tem is still working or it has failed, the mean residual life (MRL) function of the parallel system and the mean past lifetime (MPL) function of the components are conducted. Some representations and corresponding properties of the MRL function and the MPL function under several specific conditions are obtained.  相似文献

In this article, we study the hazard rate ordering of lifetimes of two-component systems (series and parallel) by considering some bivariate distributions for the joint distribution of component lifetimes. Such that, we aim to investigate the lifetimes of systems with stochastically dependent and with stochastically independent components, the lifetimes of the components, and a stochastic ordering relation between these lifetimes. In addition to these, the mononotonicity of the hazard rates of the parallel and the series systems for the bivariate Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern (FGM) family is studied.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a parallel system consisting of n components. Then, the percentile residual lifetime of the system given survival of at least n ? r + 1, r = 1, 2, …, n component(s) has been introduced, and some properties of this measure have been investigated. We show that the system accommodates decreasing percentile residual lifetime function, provided the components have increasing hazard rate functions. Different parallel systems have been compared with each other in terms of the introduced measure. Furthermore, behavior of the percentile residual lifetime of the system and the components have been compared in terms of some reliability notions. Also, a characterization result has been presented.  相似文献

The study of systems with dependent components from a reliability point of view is a very important topic. However, the majority of the articles study the case of independent components. In this article, we study how the dependency influences the performance of the system. We extend some comparison results obtained in the case of independent components to the case of two dependent components. We show that the more diverse the exponential parameters of the two components, the stronger (weaker) the parallel (series) system in the stochastic ordering. We apply our general results to some common bivariate models in the reliability theory.  相似文献

The life lengths of the units in a system can be modelled by a bivariate distribution. In this paper, we suppose that the joint distribution of the units is a symmetric bivariate Pareto (Lomax) distribution. The reliability evaluation for a multi-units cold standby system with a switch-over under Poisson shocks is investigated. The random value of each shock is assumed to be i.i.d. with some known distribution. Each arrival of a shock has a random effect on the operating unit and on the switch-over. When the operating unit fails while the switch-over is normal, the next cold standby unit will start to operate immediately. The system fails only when all the units have failed or both the operating unit and the switch-over have failed. The reliability function and the mean time to the failure (MTTF) of the system are obtained.  相似文献

In this article, the influence of a cold standby component to the reliability of weighted k-out-of-n: G systems consisting of two different types of components is studied. Weighted k-out-of-n: G systems are generalization of k-out-of-n systems that has attracted substantial interest in reliability theory because of their various applications in engineering. A method based on residual lifetimes of mixed components is presented for computing reliability of weighted k-out-of-n: G systems with two types of components and a cold standby component. Reliability and mean time to failure of different structured systems have been computed. Moreover, obtained results are used for defining optimal system configurations that can minimize the overall system costs.  相似文献

The article explores the relationship between distributions of order statistics from random vectors with exchangeable normal distributions and several skewed generalizations of the normal distribution. In particular, we show that the order statistics of exchangeable normal observations have closed skew-normal distributions, and that the corresponding density function is log-concave when the order statistic is extreme. Special attention is given to the bivariate case, which is related to the univariate skew-normal distribution. The applications discussed focus on the lifetimes of coherent systems.  相似文献

Let X2: n and Y2: m be the second order statistics from n independent exponential variables with hazards λ1, …, λn, and an independent exponential sample of size m with hazard change to λ, respectively. When m ? n, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for comparing X2: n and Y2: m in mean residual life, dispersive, hazard rate, and likelihood ratio orderings based on some inequalities between λi’s and λ. The established results show how one can compare an (n ? 1)-out-of-n system consisting of heterogeneous components with exponential lifetimes with any (m ? 1)-out-of-m system consisting of homogeneous components with exponential lifetimes.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to study the bivariate distributions with second kind of beta conditionals, presented by Castillo and Sarabia, from a reliability point of view. The reliability functions, viz the survival function, the failure rate and mean residual life function, are derived and their monotonicity is discussed for the univariate model as well as the conditional model. Finally, Clayton’s association measure is obtained in terms of the hazard gradient and its value, in the case of our model, is derived.  相似文献

In this paper we compare the hazard rate functions of two parallel systems, each of which consists of two independent components with exponential distribution functions. The paper gives various conditions under which there exists a hazard rate ordering between the two parallel systems. It is also shown that some of these conditions are both sufficient and necessary. In particular, it is proven that if the vector consisting of the two hazard rates of the two exponential components in one parallel system weakly supmajorizes the counterpart of the other parallel system, then the first parallel system is greater than the second parallel system in the hazard rate ordering. This paper further compares the hazard rate functions of two parallel systems when both systems have components following a certain bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

If the random variable X denotes the lifetime (X ≥ 0, with probability one) of a unit, then the random variable X t  = (t ? X|X ≤ t), for a fixed t > 0, is known as `time since failure', which is analogous to the residual lifetime random variable used in reliability and survival analysis. The reversed hazard rate function, which is related to the random variable X t , has received the attention of many researchers in the recent past [(cf. Shaked, M., Shanthikumar, J. In this article, we consider a k-out-of-n system with a cold standby component under the general condition that lth (0 < l ? n ? k + 1) component is working at time t. We introduce two new families of univariate distributions that we call hyperminimal and hypermaximal distributions. These families have interesting applications in the context of reliability theory in that they contain that of coherent system lifetime distributions. For these families, we obtain distributions, bounds, and moments. We also define the minimal and maximal signatures of a coherent system with exchangeable components which allow us to represent the system distribution as generalized mixtures (i.e., mixtures with possibly negative weights) of series and parallel systems. These results can also be applied to order statistics (k-out-of-n systems). Finally, we give some applications studying coherent systems with different multivariate exponential joint distributions.  相似文献

For two components and one standby redundancy, we develop a characterization on the hazard rate order and the reversed hazard rate order of the redundant system lifetime in the context of mutually independent components lifetimes. Motivated by practical issues, a new stochastic order for random variables is introduced by comparing all their percentile residual life functions until a certain instant. Some interpretations of these stochastic orders are given, and various properties of them are derived. The relationships to other stochastic orders are studied and also an application in reliability theory is described. Two unrepairable series structure systems with k-out-of-m:G subsystems and spares are investigated. The first one consists of a k-out-of-m:G subsystem and a series subsystem while the other consists of two k-out-of-m:G subsystems. The systems have identical components with identical lifetime distributions and the working components are suspended as soon as the systems are down. Two Markov models are proposed for the reliability analysis of such systems and closed form results on the reliability and the mean time to failure (MTTF) are presented. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the impact of several parameters on the reliability of the systems.  相似文献

Simul. 85:28232838.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) introduced and studied the mean residual weighted (MRW) distribution as an alternative to the length-biased distribution, by using the concepts of the mean residual lifetime and the cumulative residual entropy (CRE). In this article, a new sequence of weighted distributions is introduced based on the generalized CRE. This sequence includes the MRW distribution. Properties of this sequence are obtained generalizing and extending previous results on the MRW distribution. Moreover, expressions for some known distributions are given, and finite mixtures between the new sequence of weighted distributions and the length-biased distribution are studied. Recently, Rao et al. [(2004) Cumulative residual entropy: a new measure of information. IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory 50(6), 1220–1228] have proposed a new measure of uncertainty, called cumulative residual entropy (CRE), in a distribution function F and obtained some properties and applications of that. In the present paper, we propose a dynamic form of CRE and obtain some of its properties. We show how CRE (and its dynamic version) is connected with well-known reliability measures such as the mean residual life time.  相似文献

We introduce some new generalized stochastic orderings (in the spirit of relative ageing) which compare probability distributions with the exponential distribution. These orderings are useful to understand the phenomenon of positive ageing classes and also helpful to guide the practitioners when there are crossing hazard rates and/or crossing mean residual lives. We study some characterizations of these orderings. Inter-relations among these orderings have also been discussed.  相似文献
