Consider the estimation of the regression parameters in the usual linear model. For design densities with infinite support, it has been shown by Faraldo Roca and González Manteiga [1] Faraldo Roca, P. and González Manteiga, W. 1987. “Efficiency of a new class of linear regression estimates obtained by preliminary nonparametric estimation”. In New Perspectives in Theoretical and Applied Statistics Edited by: Puri, M. L., Vilaplana, J. P. and Wertz, W. 229242. New York: John Wiley.  [Google Scholar] that it is possible to modify the classical least squares procedure and to obtain estimators for the regression parameters whose MSE's (mean squared errors) are smaller than those of the usual least squares estimators. The modification consists of presmoothing the response variables by a kernel estimator of the regression function. These authors also show that the gain in efficiency is not possible for a design density with compact support. We show that in this case local linear presmoothing does not fix this inefficiency problem, in spite of the well known fact that local linear fitting automatically corrects the bias in the endpoints of the (design density) support. We demonstrate on a theoretical basis how this inefficiency problem can be rectified in the compact design case: we prove that presmoothing with boundary kernels studied in Müller [2] Müller, H.-G. 1991. Smooth optimum kernel estimators near endpoints. Biometrika, 78: 521530. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] and Müller and Wang [3] Müller, H.-G. and Wang, J.-L. 1994. Hazard rate estimation under random censoring with varying kernels and bandwidths. Biometrics, 50: 6176. [Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] leads to regression estimators which are superior over the least squares estimators. A very careful analytic treatment is needed to arrive at these asymptotic results.  相似文献

In many experiments where pre-treatment and post-treatment measurements are taken, investigators wish to determine if there is a difference between two treatment groups. For this type of data, the post-treatment variable is used as the primary comparison variable and the pre-treatment variable is used as a covariate. Although most of the discussion in this paper is written with the pre-treatment variable as the covariate the results are applicable to other choices of a covariate. Tests based on residuals have been proposed as alternatives to the usual covariance methods. Our objective is to investigate how the powers of these tests are affected when the conditional variance of the post-treatment variable depends on the magnitude of the pre-treatment variable. In particular, we investigate two cases. [1] Crager, Michael R. 1987. Analysis of Covariance in Parallel-Group Clinical Trials With Pretreatment Baselines. Biometrics, 43: 895901. [Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] The conditional variance of the post-treatment variable gradually increases as the magnitude of the pre-treatment variable increases. (In many biological models this is the case.) [2] Knoke, James D. 1991. Nonparametric Analysis of Covariance for Comparing Change in Randomized Studies with Baseline Values Subject to Error. Biometrics, 47: 523533. [Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] The conditional variance of the post-treatment variable is dependent upon natural or imposed subgroups contained within the pre-treatment variable. Power comparisons are made using Monte Carlo techniques.  相似文献

To deal with multicollinearity problem, the biased estimators with two biasing parameters have recently attracted much research interest. The aim of this article is to compare one of the last proposals given by Yang and Chang (2010 Yang, H., and X. Chang. 2010. A new two-parameter estimator in linear regression. Communications in Statistics: Theory and Methods 39 (6):92334.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) with Liu-type estimator (Liu 2003 Liu, K. 2003. Using Liu-type estimator to combat collinearity. Communications in Statistics: Theory and Methods 32 (5):100920.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and k ? d class estimator (Sakallioglu and Kaciranlar 2008 Sakallioglu, S., and S. Kaciranlar. 2008. A new biased estimator based on ridge estimation. Statistical Papers 49:66989.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) under the matrix mean squared error criterion. As well as giving these comparisons theoretically, we support the results with the extended simulation studies and real data example, which show the advantages of the proposal given by Yang and Chang (2010 Yang, H., and X. Chang. 2010. A new two-parameter estimator in linear regression. Communications in Statistics: Theory and Methods 39 (6):92334.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) over the other proposals with increasing multicollinearity level.  相似文献

In analogy with the weighted Shannon entropy proposed by Belis and Guiasu (1968 Belis, M., Guiasu, S. (1968). A quantitative-qualitative measure of information in cybernetic systems. IEEE Trans. Inf. Th. IT-4:593594.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and Guiasu (1986 Guiasu, S. (1986). Grouping data by using the weighted entropy. J. Stat. Plann. Inference 15:6369.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), we introduce a new information measure called weighted cumulative residual entropy (WCRE). This is based on the cumulative residual entropy (CRE), which is introduced by Rao et al. (2004 Rao, M., Chen, Y., Vemuri, B.C., Wang, F. (2004). Cumulative residual entropy: a new measure of information. IEEE Trans. Info. Theory 50(6):12201228.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). This new information measure is “length-biased” shift dependent that assigns larger weights to larger values of random variable. The properties of WCRE and a formula relating WCRE and weighted Shannon entropy are given. Related studies of reliability theory is covered. Our results include inequalities and various bounds to the WCRE. Conditional WCRE and some of its properties are discussed. The empirical WCRE is proposed to estimate this new information measure. Finally, strong consistency and central limit theorem are provided.  相似文献

Two-period crossover design is one of the commonly used designs in clinical trials. But, the estimation of treatment effect is complicated by the possible presence of carryover effect. It is known that ignoring the carryover effect when it exists can lead to poor estimates of the treatment effect. The classical approach by Grizzle (1965 Grizzle, J.E. (1965). The two-period change-over design and its use in clinical trials. Biometrics 21:467480. See Grizzle (1974) for corrections.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) consists of two stages. First, a preliminary test is conducted on carryover effect. If the carryover effect is significant, analysis is based only on data from period one; otherwise, analysis is based on data from both periods. A Bayesian approach with improper priors was proposed by Grieve (1985 Grieve, A.P. (1985). A Bayesian analysis of the two-period crossover design for clinical trials. Biometrics 41:979990.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) which uses a mixture of two models: a model with carryover effect and another without. The indeterminacy of the Bayes factor due to the arbitrary constant in the improper prior was addressed by assigning a minimally discriminatory value to the constant. In this article, we present an objective Bayesian estimation approach to the two-period crossover design which is also based on a mixture model, but using the commonly recommended Zellner–Siow g-prior. We provide simulation studies and a real data example and compare the numerical results with Grizzle (1965 Grizzle, J.E. (1965). The two-period change-over design and its use in clinical trials. Biometrics 21:467480. See Grizzle (1974) for corrections.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar])’s and Grieve (1985 Grieve, A.P. (1985). A Bayesian analysis of the two-period crossover design for clinical trials. Biometrics 41:979990.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar])’s approaches.  相似文献

Since the seminal paper of Ghirardato (1997 Ghirardato, P. 1997. On the independence for non-additive measures, with a Fubini theorem. Journal of Economic Theory 73:26191.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), it is known that Fubini theorem for non additive measures can be available only for functions as “slice-comonotonic” in the framework of product algebra. Later, inspired by Ghirardato (1997 Ghirardato, P. 1997. On the independence for non-additive measures, with a Fubini theorem. Journal of Economic Theory 73:26191.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), Chateauneuf and Lefort (2008 Chateauneuf, A., and J. P. Lefort. 2008. Some Fubini theorems on product σ-algebras for non-additive measures. International Journal of Approximate Reasoning 48:68696.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) obtained some Fubini theorems for non additive measures in the framework of product σ-algebra. In this article, we study Fubini theorem for non additive measures in the framework of g-expectation. We give some different assumptions that provide Fubini theorem in the framework of g-expectation.  相似文献

This paper aimed at providing an efficient new unbiased estimator for estimating the proportion of a potentially sensitive attribute in survey sampling. The suggested randomization device makes use of the means, variances of scrambling variables, and the two scalars lie between “zero” and “one.” Thus, the same amount of information has been used at the estimation stage. The variance formula of the suggested estimator has been obtained. We have compared the proposed unbiased estimator with that of Kuk (1990 Kuk, A.Y.C. (1990). Asking sensitive questions inderectely. Biometrika 77:436438.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and Franklin (1989 Franklin, L.A. (1989). A comparision of estimators for randomized response sampling with continuous distribution s from a dichotomous population. Commun. Stat. Theor. Methods 18:489505.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), and Singh and Chen (2009 Singh, S., Chen, C.C. (2009). Utilization of higher order moments of scrambling variables in randomized response sampling. J. Stat. Plann. Inference. 139:33773380.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimators. Relevant conditions are obtained in which the proposed estimator is more efficient than Kuk (1990 Kuk, A.Y.C. Commun. Stat. Theor. Methods 18:489505.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and Singh and Chen (2009 Singh, S., Chen, C.C. (2009). Utilization of higher order moments of scrambling variables in randomized response sampling. J. Stat. Plann. Inference. 139:33773380.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimators. The optimum estimator (OE) in the proposed class of estimators has been identified which finally depends on moments ratios of the scrambling variables. The variance of the optimum estimator has been obtained and compared with that of the Kuk (1990 Kuk, A.Y.C. Commun. Stat. Theor. Methods 18:489505.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator and Singh and Chen (2009 Singh, S., Chen, C.C. (2009). Utilization of higher order moments of scrambling variables in randomized response sampling. J. Stat. Plann. Inference. 139:33773380.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator. It is interesting to mention that the “optimum estimator” of the class of estimators due to Singh and Chen (2009 Singh, S., Chen, C.C. (2009). Utilization of higher order moments of scrambling variables in randomized response sampling. J. Stat. Plann. Inference. 139:33773380.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) depends on the parameter π under investigation which limits the use of Singh and Chen (2009 Singh, S., Chen, C.C. (2009). Utilization of higher order moments of scrambling variables in randomized response sampling. J. Stat. Plann. Inference. 139:33773380.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) OE in practice while the proposed OE in this paper is free from such a constraint. The proposed OE depends only on the moments ratios of scrambling variables. This is an advantage over the Singh and Chen (2009 Singh, S., Chen, C.C. (2009). Utilization of higher order moments of scrambling variables in randomized response sampling. J. Stat. Plann. Inference. 139:33773380.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) estimator. Numerical illustrations are given in the support of the present study when the scrambling variables follow normal distribution. Theoretical and empirical results are very sound and quite illuminating in the favor of the present study.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new measure for the analysis of association in cross-classifications having ordered categories. Association is measured in terms of the odd-ratios in 2 × 2 subtables formed from adjacent rows and adjacent columns. We focus our attention in the uniform association model. Our measure is based in the family of divergences introduced by Burbea and Rao [1] Burbea, J. and Rao, C. R. 1982a. On the convexity of some divergence measures based on entropy functions. IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 28: 489495. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]. Some well-known sets of data are reanalyzed and a simulation study is presented to analyze the behavior of the new families of test statistics introduced in this paper.  相似文献

The order of experimental runs in a fractional factorial experiment is essential when the cost of level changes in factors is considered. The generalized foldover scheme given by [1] Coster, D. C. and Cheng, C. S. 1988. Minimum cost trend free run orders of fractional factorial designs. The Annals of Statistics, 16: 11881205. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]gives an optimal order to experimental runs in an experiment with specified defining contrasts. An experiment can be specified by a design requirement such as resolution or estimation of some interactions. To meet such a requirement, we can find several sets of defining contrasts. Applying the generalized foldover scheme to these sets of defining contrasts, we obtain designs with different numbers of level changes and then the design with minimum number of level changes. The difficulty is to find all the sets of defining contrasts. An alternative approach is investigated by [2] Cheng, C. S., Martin, R. J. and Tang, B. 1998. Two-level factorial designs with extreme numbers of level changes. The Annals of Statistics, 26: 15221539. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]for two-level fractional factorial experiments. In this paper, we investigate experiments with all factors in slevels.  相似文献

The complication in analyzing tumor data is that the tumors detected in a screening program tend to be slowly progressive tumors, which is the so-called left-truncated sampling that is inherent in screening studies. Under the assumption that all subjects have the same tumor growth function, Ghosh (2008 Ghosh, D. (2008). Proportional hazards regression for cancer studies. Biometrics 64:141148.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) developed estimation procedures for the Cox proportional hazards model. Shen (2011a Shen, P.-S. (2011a). Proportional hazards regression for cancer screening data. J. Stat. Comput. Simul. 18:367377.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) demonstrated that Ghosh (2008 Ghosh, D. (2008). Proportional hazards regression for cancer studies. Biometrics 64:141148.[Crossref], [PubMed], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar])'s approach can be extended to the case when each subject has a specific growth function. In this article, under linear transformation model, we present a general framework to the analysis of data from cancer screening studies. We developed estimation procedures under linear transformation model, which includes Cox's model as a special case. A simulation study is conducted to demonstrate the potential usefulness of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

This paper treats the problem of stochastic comparisons for the extreme order statistics arising from heterogeneous beta distributions. Some sufficient conditions involved in majorization-type partial orders are provided for comparing the extreme order statistics in the sense of various magnitude orderings including the likelihood ratio order, the reversed hazard rate order, the usual stochastic order, and the usual multivariate stochastic order. The results established here strengthen and extend those including Kochar and Xu (2007 Kochar, S.C., Xu, M. (2007). Stochastic comparisons of parallel systems when components have proportional hazard rates. Probab. Eng. Inf. Cooray and Ananda (2008 Cooray, K., Ananda, M.M.A. (2008). A Generalization of the half-normal distribution with applications to lifetime data. Commun. Stat. - Theory Methods 37:13231337.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) pioneered a lifetime model commonly used in reliability studies. Based on this distribution, we propose a new model called the odd log-logistic generalized half-normal distribution for describing fatigue lifetime data. Various of its structural properties are derived. We discuss the method of maximum likelihood to fit the model parameters. For different parameter settings and sample sizes, some simulation studies compare the performance of the new lifetime model. It can be very useful, and its superiority is illustrated by means of a real dataset.  相似文献

Abstract

Recently, Chen (Chen, Z. (2000 Chen, Z. 2000. A new two-parameter lifetime distribution with bathtub-shape or increasing failure rate function. Statistics &; Probability Letters, 49: 155161. [Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). A new two-parameter lifetime distribution with bathtub-shape or increasing failure rate function. Statistics &; Probability Letters 49:155–161.) proposed a two-parameter model that can be used to model bathtub-shaped failure rate. Although this model has several interesting properties, it does not contain a scale parameter and hence not flexible in modeling real data. A generalized model including the scale parameter has shown to be interesting and it has the traditional Weibull distribution as an asymptotic case. In this article, a detailed analysis of this model is presented. Shapes of the density and failure rate function are studied. The asymptotic confidence intervals for the parameters are also derived from the Fisher information matrix. The likelihood ratio test is applied to test the goodness of fit of Weibull extension model. Some examples are shown to illustrate the application of the model and analysis.  相似文献

In this article, we establish the complete moment convergence of a moving-average process generated by a class of random variables satisfying the Rosenthal-type maximal inequality and the week mean dominating condition. Adaptive designs find an important application in the estimation of unknown percentiles for an underlying dose-response curve. A nonparametric adaptive design was suggested by Mugno et al.
