Using the independence of an arbitrary random variable Y and the weighted minima of independent, identically distributed random variables with weights depending on Y, we characterize extreme value distributions and generalized Pareto distributions. A discussion is made about an analogous characterization for distributions in the max domains of attraction of extreme value limit laws.  相似文献

An account to extreme value theory for progressively Type-II censored order statistics is presented which enables us to handle limit laws for upper and lower extreme, intermediate and central progressively Type-II censored order statistics within one framework. We illustrate that the extreme value analysis for progressively Type-II censored order statistics is connected to limit laws for sums of independent but not-identically distributed exponential random variables. Moreover, we show that the limits are transformations of extreme value distributions and illustrate the connection to extreme value analysis for order statistics.  相似文献

We introduce a uniform generalized order statistic process. It is a simple Markov process whose initial segment can be identified with a set of uniform generalized order statistics. A standard marginal transformation leads to a generalized order statistic process related to non-uniform generalized order statistics. It is then demonstrated that the nth variable in such a process has the same distribution as an nth Pfeifer record value. This process representation of Pfeifer records facilitates discussion of the possible limit laws for Pfeifer records and, in some cases, of sums thereof. Because of the close relationship between Pfeifer records and generalized order statistics, the results shed some light on the problem of determining the nature of the possible limiting distributions of the largest generalized order statistic.  相似文献

A representation of the Fisher information in generalized order statistics in terms of the hazard rate of the underlying distribution function is derived under mild regularity conditions. This expression supplements results for complete, Type-II censored, and progressively Type-II censored data. As a byproduct, we find a hazard rate based representation for samples of k-records which apparently has not been known so far. Moreover, sufficient conditions for the validity of this representation in location and scale family settings are given. The result is illustrated by considering generalized order statistics based on logistic, Laplace, and extreme value distributions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Based on the observed dual generalized order statistics drawn from an arbitrary unknown distribution, nonparametric two-sided prediction intervals as well as prediction upper and lower bounds for an ordinary and a dual generalized order statistic from another iid sequence with the same distribution are developed. The prediction intervals for dual generalized order statistics based on the observed ordinary generalized order statistics are also developed. The coverage probabilities of these prediction intervals are exact and free of the parent distribution, F. Finally, numerical computations and real examples of the coverage probabilities are presented for choosing the appropriate limits of the prediction.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We present sharp bounds for expectations of generalized order statistics with random indices. The bounds are expressed in terms of logarithmic moments E X a (log max {1, X}) b of the underlying observation X. They are attainable and provide characterizations of some non trivial distributions. No restrictions are imposed on the parameters of the generalized order statistics model.  相似文献

Stochastic ordering relations between extreme order statistics from exponential, Weibull and gamma distributions have been studied extensively by many researchers in recent years. In this work, we obtain various ordering results for the comparisons of two extreme order statistics from scale models when one set of scale parameters majorizes the other. The new results obtained here are applied when the baseline distributions are exponentiated Weibull or generalized gamma distributions. In this way, we generalize and extend some results established recently in the literature.  相似文献

Abstract

The class of transmuted distributions has received a lot of attention in the recent statistical literature. In this paper, we propose a rich family of bivariate distribution whose conditionals are transmuted distributions. The new family of distributions depends on the two baseline distributions and three dependence parameters. Apart from the general properties, we also study the distribution of the concomitance of order statistics. We study specific bivariate models. Estimation methodologies are proposed. A simulation study is conducted. The usefulness of this family is established by fitting well analyzed real life time data.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that both the class of beta-generated distributions GF and its base distribution F belong to the same domain of maximal (or minimal or upper record value or lower record value) attraction. Moreover, it is shown that the weak convergence of any non-extreme order statistic (central or intermediate order statistic), based on a base distribution F, to a non-degenerate limit type implies the weak convergence of GF to a non-degenerate limit type. The relations between the two limit types are deduced.  相似文献

In this article, we study the limit distributions of the extreme, intermediate, and central order statistics (os) of a stationary Gaussian sequence under equi-correlated setup. When the random sample size is assumed to converge weakly and to be independent of the basic variables, the sufficient (and in some cases the necessary) conditions for the convergence are derived. Finally, we show that the obtained result for the maximum os, with random sample size, is also applicable in the case of the non constant correlation case.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a family of bivariate distributions which includes the well-known Morgenstern family of bivariate distributions as its subclass. We identify some properties of concomitants of order statistics which characterize this generalized class of distributions. An application of the characterization result in modeling a bivariate distribution to a data is also explained.  相似文献

In this work we propose a technique of estimating the location parameter μμ and scale parameter σσ of a distribution by U-statistics constructed by taking best linear functions of order statistics as kernels. The method has been illustrated for estimating the location and scale parameters of type-I extreme value distribution. We have computed the asymptotic relative efficiencies of the proposed U-statistics with the appropriate maximum likelihood estimators based on samples drawn from each of type-I extreme value, logistic and normal distributions. In all cases very high asymptotic relative efficiencies are obtained.  相似文献

The joint and marginal distributions of generalized order statistics based on an arbitrary distribution function are established in terms of the lexicographic distribution function. Furthermore, we show that generalized order statistics and the corresponding number of ties form a two-dimensional Markov chain.  相似文献

In this work, general forms of many well-known continuous probability distributions are characterized by conditional expectation of some functions of generalized order statistics. These results are the generalization of the characterization results based on conditional expectation of the functions of order statistics given by Khan and Abu-Salih (1989).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider a general form for the underlying distribution and a general conjugate prior, and develop a general procedure for deriving the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators based on an observed generalized Type-II hybrid censored sample. The problems of predicting the future order statistics from the same sample and that from a future sample are also discussed from a Bayesian viewpoint. For the illustration of the developed results, the exponential and Pareto distributions are used as examples. Finally, two numerical examples are presented for illustrating all the inferential procedures developed here.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

For a random sample from a population with a continuous density function over its bounded support, when the sample size turns to infinity, we explore the uniform integrability of normalized extreme order statistics, for which we obtain limit equivalent expressions of variances. Moreover, we prove that the covariance of the minimum and the maximum of the sample can be bounded by two expressions that are same order infinitesimals. Examples with simulated results are provided to demonstrate the application of our theorems.  相似文献

In a wide subclass of generalized order statistics, representations of marginal density and distribution functions are developed. The results are applied to obtain several relations, such as recurrence relations, and explicit expressions for the moments of generalized order statistics from Pareto, power function and Weibull distributions Moreover, characterizations of exponential distributions are shown by means of a distributional identity as well as by* an identity of expectations involving a subrange and a corresponding generalized order statistic.  相似文献

Utilizing regression properties of order statistics, we characterize a family of distributions introduced by Akhundov et al. [New characterizations by properties of midrange and related statistics, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 33(12) (2004), pp. 3133–3143], which includes the t-distribution with two degrees of freedom as one of its members. Then we extend this characterization result to t-distribution with more than two degrees of freedom.  相似文献

The situation of identical distributions of a single m-generalized order statistic and a random convex combination of two neighboring m-generalized order statistics with beta-distributed weights is studied, and related characterizations of generalized Pareto distributions are shown.  相似文献
