Measure of uncertainty in past lifetime distribution plays an important role in the context of Information Theory, Forensic Science and other related fields. In this paper we provide characterizations of quite a few continuous and discrete distributions based on certain functional relationships among past entropy, reversed hazard rate and expected inactivity time. Based on past entropy, a conditional measure of uncertainty has been defined, which has helped in defining a new stochastic order and an ageing class. The properties of the stochastic order and those of the ageing class are also studied here.  相似文献

In the study of reliability of the technical systems and subsystems, parallel systems play a very important role. In the present paper, we consider a parallel system consisting of n identical components with independent lifetimes having a common distribution function F. It is assumed that at time t the system has failed. Under these conditions, we obtain the mean past lifetime (MPL) of the components of the system. Some properties of MPL are studied. It is shown that the underlying distribution function F can be recovered from the proposed MPL. Also, a comparison between two parallel systems are made based on their MPLs in the case where the components of the system are ordered in terms of reversed hazard rate. Finally a characterization of the uniform distribution is given based on MPL.  相似文献

In this paper, we first investigate some reliability properties in the proportional mean past lifetimes model. Specifically, some implications of stochastic orders and aging notions between random variables which have proportional mean past lifetimes are discussed. Then, as an extension, mixture model arising from the proportional mean past lifetimes model is introduced and preservation properties of some stochastic orders and aging notions concerning this mixture model are studied. Many times, a product lifetime can be described through a non negative integer valued random variable. In this article, we propose a proportional hazards model for discrete data analogous to the version for continuous data. Some ageing properties of the model are discussed. Stochastic comparison of pair of random variables that follow the model are also made. A new test based on U-statistics is developed for testing that the proportionality parameter in the proposed model is 1. The asymptotic properties of the proposed test are studied. We present some numerical results to asses the performance of the test procedure.  相似文献

For two components and one standby redundancy, we develop a characterization on the hazard rate order and the reversed hazard rate order of the redundant system lifetime in the context of mutually independent components lifetimes. In this article, we obtain exact expression for the distribution of the time to failure of discrete time cold standby repairable system under the classical assumptions that both working time and repair time of components are geometric. Our method is based on alternative representation of lifetime as a waiting time random variable on a binary sequence, and combinatorial arguments. Such an exact expression for the time to failure distribution is new in the literature. Furthermore, we obtain the probability generating function and the first two moments of the lifetime random variable.  相似文献

If the random variable X denotes the lifetime (X ≥ 0, with probability one) of a unit, then the random variable X t  = (t ? X|X ≤ t), for a fixed t > 0, is known as `time since failure', which is analogous to the residual lifetime random variable used in reliability and survival analysis. The reversed hazard rate function, which is related to the random variable X t , has received the attention of many researchers in the recent past [(cf. Shaked, M., Shanthikumar, J. ABSTRACT

Recently, some well-known univariate aging classes of lifetime distributions have been characterized by means of properties of their quantile functions and excess-wealth functions. The generalization of the univariate aging notions to the multivariate case involve, among other factors, appropriate definitions of multivariate quantiles or regression representation and related notions, which are able to correctly describe the intrinsic characteristic of the concepts of aging that should be generalized. The multivariate versions of these notions, which are characterized by using the multivariate u-quantiles and the multivariate excess-wealth function, are considered in this paper. Relationships between such multivariate aging classes are studied, and examples are provided.  相似文献

Recently, the concept of reversed mean residual life order based on the mean of the random variable X t  = (t ? X | X ≤ t), t > 0, called the reversed residual life, defined for the nonnegative random variable X, has been introduced in the literature. In this paper, a stochastic order based on the shifted version of the reversed mean residual life is proposed, based on the reversed mean residual life function for a random variable X with support (l X , ∞), where l X may be negative infinity, and its properties are studied. ABSTRACT

In this article, we introduce the Gompertz power series (GPS) class of distributions which is obtained by compounding Gompertz and power series distributions. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as Gompertz-geometric (GG), Gompertz-Poisson (GP), Gompertz-binomial (GB), and Gompertz-logarithmic (GL) distributions as special cases. Sub-models of the GPS distribution are studied in details. The hazard rate function of the GPS distribution can be increasing, decreasing, and bathtub-shaped. We obtain several properties of the GPS distribution such as its probability density function, and failure rate function, Shannon entropy, mean residual life function, quantiles, and moments. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure via a EM-algorithm is presented, and simulation studies are performed for evaluation of this estimation for complete data, and the MLE of parameters for censored data. The notions of (sample) mean, median and mode are common tools for describing the central tendency of a given probability distribution. In this article, we propose a new measure of central tendency, the sample monomode, which is related to the notion of sample mode. In this paper, we consider a k-level step-stress accelerated life-testing (ALT) experiment with unequal duration steps τ=(τ1, …, τ k ). Censoring is allowed only at the change-stress point in the final stage. A general log-location-scale lifetime distribution with mean life which is a linear function of stress, along with a cumulative exposure model, is considered as the working model. Under this model, the determination of the optimal choice of τ for both Weibull and lognormal distributions are addressed using the variance–optimality criterion. Numerical results show that for a general log-location-scale distributions, the optimal k-step-stress ALT model with unequal duration steps reduces just to a 2-level step-stress ALT model.  相似文献

Abstract

This study concerns semiparametric approaches to estimate discrete multivariate count regression functions. The semiparametric approaches investigated consist of combining discrete multivariate nonparametric kernel and parametric estimations such that (i) a prior knowledge of the conditional distribution of model response may be incorporated and (ii) the bias of the traditional nonparametric kernel regression estimator of Nadaraya-Watson may be reduced. We are precisely interested in combination of the two estimations approaches with some asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators. Asymptotic normality results were showed for nonparametric correction terms of parametric start function of the estimators. The performance of discrete semiparametric multivariate kernel estimators studied is illustrated using simulations and real count data. In addition, diagnostic checks are performed to test the adequacy of the parametric start model to the true discrete regression model. Finally, using discrete semiparametric multivariate kernel estimators provides a bias reduction when the parametric multivariate regression model used as start regression function belongs to a neighborhood of the true regression model.  相似文献

Various properties of these functions are studied. Interrelationships between these reversed hazard rates are explored. Recently, authors have studied inequalities involving expectations of selected functions, viz. failure rate, mean residual life, aging intensity function, and log-odds rate which are defined for left truncated random variables in reliability theory to characterize some well-known distributions. However, there has been growing interest in the study of these functions in reversed time (X ? x, instead of X > x) and their applications. A dynamic model of a heterogeneous population is studied. Particles belonging to a population are divided, at every time t, into a finite number of classes according to their types and the partition changes over time. The role of the occupancy numbers, namely the cardinality of each class, is highlighted. The relationship between the stochastic process of occupancy numbers and the process of particle types is analyzed. The main goal of this paper is the estimation of the lifetime of each particle at a given time t, when the observed data are the history of the process of the number of dead particles up to t. This paper studies a cold standby repairable system with two identical components and one repairman having multiple vacations applying matrix-analytic methods. The lifetime of the component follows a phase-type distribution. The repair times and the vacation times of the repairman are governed by different phase-type distributions, respectively. For this system, the Markov process governing the system is constructed. The system is studied in a transient and stationary regime, the availability, the reliability, the rates of occurrence of the different types of failures, and the working probability of the repairman are calculated, respectively.
