The present paper is concerned with statistical models for the dependence of survival time or time to occurrence of an event, such as time to tumor, on a vector X of covariates or prognostic variables such as age, sex, blood pressure, length of exposure to a toxic material, etc., measured on a group of individuals in biomedical investigations. It is assumed that the covariates influence the distribution of time to tumor only through a linear predictor μ =βX.

The object of our paper is to investigate the effect due to the covariates on the Life Expectancy and the Percentile Residual Life (PRL) function of a family of organisms under the proportional hazards and the accelerated life models. The key result is that the families of survival distributions under these models have the 'setting the clock back to zero' property if the family of baseline survival distributions does. This property is a generalization of the lack of memory property of the exponential distribution. Simple examples of the members of this family are the linear hazard exponential, Pareto and Gompertz life distributions.

As a simple application of the main results obtained in the present paper, we have considered a stochastic survival model recently proposed by Chiang and Conforti (1989) for the time-to-tumor distribution in the context of a large-scale serial sacrifice experiment by the National Center of Toxicological Research (NCTR). This involves some mice that were fed 2-AAF from infancy and those that developed bladder and/or liver neoplasms, see Farmer et al (1980). It is shown that their stochastic model for tumor incidence intensity at time t leads to a family of survival models that has the setting the clock back to zero property. The survival functions and the effect of the vector X of covariates on the PRL and the tumor-free life expectancies are evaluated for the proportional hazards and accelerated life models.  相似文献

The problem of testing uniform association in cross-classifications having ordered categories is considered. Two families of test statistics, both based on divergences between certain functions of the observed data, are studied and compared. Our theoretical study is based on asymptotic properties. For each family, two consistent approximations to the null distribution of the test statistic are studied: the asymptotic null distribution and a bootstrap estimator; all the tests considered are consistent against fixed alternatives; finally, we do a local power study. Surprisingly, both families detect the same local alternatives. The finite sample performance of the tests in these two classes is numerically investigated through some simulation experiments. In the light of the obtained results, some practical recommendations are given.  相似文献

Starting from Milbrodt (1985), the asymptotic behaviour of experiments associated with Poisson sampling, Rejective sampling and its Sampford-Durbin modification is investigated. As superpopulation models so-called Lr-generated regression parameter families (1⩽r⩽2) are considered, allowing also the presence of nuisance parameters. Under some assumptions on the first order probabilities of inclusion it can be shown that the sampling experiments converge weakly if the underlying shift parameter families do so. In case of convergence the limit of the sampling experiments is characterized in terms of its Hellinger transforms and its Lévy-Khintchine representation, leading to criteria for the limit to be a pure Gaussian or a pure Poisson experiment respectively. These results are then applied to the situation of sampling in the presence of random non-response, and to establish local asymptotic normality (LAN) under more restrictive conditions. Applications also include asymptotic optimality properties of tests based on Horvitz-Thompson-type statistics, and LAM bounds and criteria for adaptivity, when testing or estimating a continuous linear functional in LAN situations. They especially cover the case of sampling from an unknown symmetric distribution, which has been subject to detailed investigations in the i.i.d. case.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, generalized linear models have many applications. Some of these models which have more applications in the real world are the models with random effects; that is, some of the unknown parameters are considered random variables. In this article, this situation is considered in logistic regression models with a random intercept having exponential distribution. The aim is to obtain the Bayesian D-optimal design; thus, the method is to maximize the Bayesian D-optimal criterion. For the model was considered here, this criterion is a function of the quasi-information matrix that depends on the unknown parameters of the model. In the Bayesian D-optimal criterion, the expectation is acquired in respect of the prior distributions that are considered for the unknown parameters. Thus, it will only be a function of experimental settings (support points) and their weights. The prior distribution of the fixed parameters is considered uniform and normal. The Bayesian D-optimal design is finally calculated numerically by R3.1.1 software.  相似文献

In the present article we study several characteristics of the families of generalized beta- and gamma- generated distributions introduced by Alexander et al. (2011) and Zografos and Balakrishnan (2009), respectively. Simple formulas are established for calculating the failure rate of the members of the aforementioned families by exploiting the failure rate of the parent distribution. In addition, the aging properties of the generalized beta- and gamma-generated distributions are explored in terms of the corresponding aging behavior of the parent family.  相似文献

Ratio and product estimators in stratified random sampling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Khoshnevisan et al. [2007. A general family of estimators for estimating population mean using known value of some population parameter(s). Far East Journal of Theoretical Statistics 22, 181–191] have introduced a family of estimators using auxiliary information in simple random sampling. They have showed that these estimators are more efficient than the classical ratio estimator and that the minimum value of the mean square error (MSE) of this family is equal to the value of MSE of regression estimator. In this article, we adapt the estimators in this family to the stratified random sampling and motivated by the estimator in Searls [1964. Utilization of known coefficient of kurtosis in the estimation procedure of variance. Journal of the American Statistical Association 59, 1225–1226], we also propose a new family of estimators for the stratified random sampling. The expressions of bias and MSE of the adapted and proposed families are derived in a general form. Besides, considering the minimum cases of these MSE equations, the efficient conditions between the adapted and proposed families are obtained. Moreover, these theoretical findings are supported by a numerical example with original data.  相似文献

In this paper new families of test-statistics are introduced and studied for the problem of comparing two treatments in terms of the likelihood ratio order. The considered families are based on φ-divergence measures and arise as natural extensions of the classical likelihood ratio test and Pearson test-statistics. It is proven that their asymptotic distribution is a common chi-bar random variable. An illustrative example is presented and the performance of these statistics is analysed through a simulation study. Through a simulation study it is shown that, for most of the proposed scenarios adjusted to be small or moderate, some members of this new family of test-statistic display clearly better performance with respect to the power in comparison to the classical likelihood ratio and the Pearson's chi-square test while the exact size remains closed to the nominal size. In view of the exact powers and significance levels, the study also shows that the Wilcoxon test-statistic is not as good as the two classical test-statistics.  相似文献

For the general multivariate exponential family of distributions it is shown that Rao's test criterion based on efficient scores is algebraically identical to the general chi-squared criterion based on maximum likelihood estimates and, similarly, that the Wald statistic is algebraically identical to the general minimum modified chi-squared statistic using linearization; these results are valid also for the multisample versions. Thus, these are extensions to the general exponential family of the findings due to Silvey (1970) and Bhapkar (1966), respectively, for the special case of the multinomial family. It is also shown that the general forms of the chi-squared and modified chi-squared criteria reduce to their respective well-known forms for the multivariate symmetric power series distribution. This finding is, thus, an extension of results noted by Ferguson (1958) and Clickner (1976) for the special case of the multinomial distribution.  相似文献

The exact distribution of a renewal counting process is not easy to compute and is rarely of closed form. In this article, we approximate the distribution of a renewal process using families of generalized Poisson distributions. We first compute approximations to the first several moments of the renewal process. In some cases, a closed form approximation is obtained. It is found that each family considered has its own strengths and weaknesses. Some new families of generalized Poisson distributions are recommended. Theorems are obtained determining when these variance to mean ratios are less than (or exceed) one without having to find the mean and variance. Some numerical comparisons are also made.  相似文献

Abstract. Zero‐inflated data abound in ecological studies as well as in other scientific fields. Non‐parametric regression with zero‐inflated response may be studied via the zero‐inflated generalized additive model (ZIGAM) with a probabilistic mixture distribution of zero and a regular exponential family component. We propose the (partially) constrained ZIGAM, which assumes that some covariates affect the probability of non‐zero‐inflation and the regular exponential family distribution mean proportionally on the link scales. When the assumption obtains, the new approach provides a unified framework for modelling zero‐inflated data, which is more parsimonious and efficient than the unconstrained ZIGAM. We develop an iterative estimation algorithm, and discuss the confidence interval construction of the estimator. Some asymptotic properties are derived. We also propose a Bayesian model selection criterion for choosing between the unconstrained and constrained ZIGAMs. The new methods are illustrated with both simulated data and a real application in jellyfish abundance data analysis.  相似文献

For curved ( k + 1), k -exponential families of stochastic processes a natural and often studied sequential procedure is to stop observation when a linear combination of the coordinates of the canonical process crosses a prescribed level. For such procedures the model is, approximately or exactly, a non-curved exponential family. Subfamilies of these stopping rules defined by having the same Fisher (expected) information are considered. Within a subfamily the Bartlett correction for a point hypothesis is also constant. Methods for comparing the durations of the sampling periods for the stopping rules in such a subfamily are discussed. It turns out that some stopping times tend to be smaller than others. For exponential families of diffusions and of counting processes the probability that one such stopping time is smaller than another can be given explicity. More generally, an Edgeworth expansion of this probability is given  相似文献

In this article we compare some common ratio estimators for estimating the population total of a given characteristic. The sampling schemes considered are simple random sampling (S.R.S.) and S.R.S.under stratification. The comparisons are made using the Pitman Nearness criterion under the model-based approach. The error term is assumed normal with mean zero and variance σg(x). The function g(x) is a known function of the auxiliary variable x. Special interest is on the cases of g(x) =l and x. The result is found the same as that using MSE criterion, although the PN is very different from the MSE intrinsically.  相似文献

Analysis of the human sex ratio by using overdispersion models   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
For study of the human sex ratio, one of the most important data sets was collected in Saxony in the 19th century by Geissler. The data contain the sizes of families, with the sex of all children, at the time of registration of the birth of a child. These data are reanalysed to determine how the probability for each sex changes with family size. Three models for overdispersion are fitted: the beta–binomial model of Skellam, the 'multiplicative' binomial model of Altham and the double-binomial model of Efron. For each distribution, both the probability and the dispersion parameters are allowed to vary simultaneously with family size according to two separate regression equations. A finite mixture model is also fitted. The models are fitted using non-linear Poisson regression. They are compared using direct likelihood methods based on the Akaike information criterion. The multiplicative and beta–binomial models provide similar fits, substantially better than that of the double-binomial model. All models show that both the probability that the child is a boy and the dispersion are greater in larger families. There is also some indication that a point probability mass is needed for families containing children uniquely of one sex.  相似文献

Ranked set sampling (RSS) is a sampling procedure that can be used to improve the cost efficiency of selecting sample units of an experiment or a study. In this paper, RSS is considered for estimating the location and scale parameters a and b>0, as well as the population mean from the family F((x?a)/b). Modified best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) and best linear invariant estimators (BLIEs) are considered. Numerical computations with different location-scale distributions and different sample sizes are conducted to assess the efficiency of the suggested estimators. It is found that the modified BLIEs are uniformly higher than that of BLUEs for all distributions considered in this study. The modified BLUE and BLIE are more efficient when the underlying distribution is symmetric.  相似文献

In a number of situations such as industrial quality control experiments the only observations are record-breaking data. In this paper, two sampling schemes are used to collect record data: single sample and multisample. The aim of this paper is to investigate which one of them is more efficient in the sense of Shannon information. Several general results are established and it is shown that there is a connection between some reliability properties of the parent distribution and the considered comparison criterion. A number of examples illustrating the results are given.  相似文献

The criterion of admissibility has been considered as one of the most important criterion in decision theory and many important results have been contributed in this direction. In this article, we propose a more flexible criterion, so-called ?-admissibility (which can be considered as weak admissibility), which generates a monotone sequence of classes of estimators. The limit of this sequence, class of 0+-admissible estimators, is the smallest class including the class of usual admissible estimators, which also belongs to the monotone sequence. Some sufficient and necessary conditions are proposed for ?-admissibility and 0+-admissibility. Under some weighted square loss, it can be shown that the usual MLE is 0+-admissible for the multivariate normal distribution and the multivariate Poisson distribution.  相似文献

When the manufacturing process is well monitored, occurrence of nondefects would be a frequent event in sampling inspection. The appropriate probability distribution of the number of defects is a zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) distribution. In this article, determination of single sampling plans (SSPs) by attributes using unity values is considered, when the number of defects follows a ZIP distribution. The operating characteristic (OC) function of the sampling plan is derived. Plan parameters are obtained for some sets of values of (p1, α, p2, β). Numerical illustrations are given to describe the determination of SSP under ZIP distribution and to study its performance in comparison with Poisson SSP.  相似文献

We extend the family of multivariate generalized linear mixed models to include random effects that are generated by smooth densities. We consider two such families of densities, the so-called semi-nonparametric (SNP) and smooth nonparametric (SMNP) densities. Maximum likelihood estimation, under either the SNP or the SMNP densities, is carried out using a Monte Carlo EM algorithm. This algorithm uses rejection sampling and automatically increases the MC sample size as it approaches convergence. In a simulation study we investigate the performance of these two densities in capturing the true underlying shape of the random effects distribution. We also examine the implications of misspecification of the random effects distribution on the estimation of the fixed effects and their standard errors. The impact of the assumed random effects density on the estimation of the random effects themselves is investigated in a simulation study and also in an application to a real data set.  相似文献

Families of splitting criteria for classification trees   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Several splitting criteria for binary classification trees are shown to be written as weighted sums of two values of divergence measures. This weighted sum approach is then used to form two families of splitting criteria. One of them contains the chi-squared and entropy criterion, the other contains the mean posterior improvement criterion. Both family members are shown to have the property of exclusive preference. Furthermore, the optimal splits based on the proposed families are studied. We find that the best splits depend on the parameters in the families. The results reveal interesting differences among various criteria. Examples are given to demonstrate the usefulness of both families.  相似文献

A basic assumption in distribution fitting is that a single family of distributions may deliver useful representation to the universe of available distributions. To date, little study has been conducted to compare the relative effectiveness of these families. In this article, five families are compared by fitting them to a sample of 20 distributions, using 2 fitting objectives: minimization of the L 2 norm and four-moment matching. Values of L 2 norm associated with the fitted families are used as input data to test for significant differences. The Pearson family and the RMM (Response Modeling Methodology) family significantly outperforms all other families.  相似文献
