Every random q-vector with finite moments generates a set of orthonormal polynomials. These are generated from the basis functions xn = xn11xnqq using Gram–Schmidt orthogonalization. One can cycle through these basis functions using any number of ways. Here, we give results using minimum cycling. The polynomials look simpler when centered about the mean of X, and still simpler form when X is symmetric about zero. This leads to an extension of the multivariate Hermite polynomial for a general random vector symmetric about zero. As an example, the results are applied to the multivariate normal distribution.  相似文献

The probabilities and factorial moments of the univar iate and multivariate generalized (or compound) discrete di st r-Lbut Lons with probability generating functions H(t)=F(G(t)) and H(t1,…,tk)=F(G(t1,…,tk))or H(t1,…,tk) = F(G1(t1),…, Gk( tk)) are derived using finite difference operators.  相似文献

Let X1,…, Xn be mutually independent non-negative integer-valued random variables with probability mass functions fi(x) > 0 for z= 0,1,…. Let E denote the event that {X1X2≥…≥Xn}. This note shows that, conditional on the event E, Xi-Xi+ 1 and Xi+ 1 are independent for all t = 1,…, k if and only if Xi (i= 1,…, k) are geometric random variables, where 1 ≤kn-1. The k geometric distributions can have different parameters θi, i= 1,…, k.  相似文献

Recently, Sanjel and Balakrishnan [A Laguerre Polynomial Approximation for a goodness-of-fit test for exponential distribution based on progressively censored data, J. Stat. Comput. Simul. 78 (2008), pp. 503–513] proposed the use of Laguerre orthogonal polynomials for a goodness-of-fit test for the exponential distribution based on progressively censored data. In this paper, we use Jacobi and Laguerre orthogonal polynomials in order to obtain density approximants for some test statistics useful in testing for outliers in gamma and exponential samples. We first obtain the exact moments of the statistics and then the density approximants, based on these moments, are expressed in terms of Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials. A comparative study is carried out of the critical values obtained by using the proposed methods to the corresponding results given by Barnett and Lewis [Outliers in Statistical Data, 3rd ed., John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1993]. This reveals that the proposed techniques provide very accurate approximations to the distributions. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the proposed approximations. Monte Carlo simulations suggest that the proposed approximate densities are very accurate.  相似文献

Let X1:n ≤ X2:n ≤···≤ Xn:n denote the order statistics of a sample of n independent random variables X1, X2,…, Xn, all identically distributed as some X. It is shown that if X has a log-convex [log-concave] density function, then the general spacing vector (Xk1:n, Xk2:n ? Xk1:n,…, Xkr:n ? Xkr?1:n) is MTP2 [S-MRR2] whenever 1 ≤ k1 < k2 <···< kr ≤ n and 1 ≤ r ≤ n. Multivariate likelihood ratio ordering of such general spacing vectors corresponding to two random samples is also considered. These extend some of the results in the literature for usual spacing vectors.  相似文献

Let Y1,…,Y n, (Y1 <Y2<…<Y n) be the order statistics of a random sample from a distribution F with density f on the realline. This paper gives a class of estimators of the derivativef'(x) of the density f at points x for which f has

a continuoussecond derivative. These estimators are based on spacings inthe order statistics Yj+kn -y j j = 1,…,n-kn,kn<n.  相似文献

The supremum of random variables representing a sequence of rewards is of interest in establishing the existence of optimal stopping rules. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for existence of moments of supn(Xn ? cn) and supn(Sn ? cn) where X1, X2, … are i.i.d. random variables, Sn = X1 + … + Xn, and cn = (nL(n))1/r, 0 < r < 2, L = 1, L = log, and L = log log. Following Cohn (1974), “rates of convergence” results are used in the proof.  相似文献

Consider n independent random variables Zi,…, Zn on R with common distribution function F, whose upper tail belongs to a parametric family F(t) = Fθ(t),t ≥ x0, where θ ∈ ? ? R d. A necessary and sufficient condition for the family Fθ, θ ∈ ?, is established such that the k-th largest order statistic Zn?k+1:n alone constitutes the central sequence yielding local asymptotic normality ( LAN ) of the loglikelihood ratio of the vector (Zn?i+1:n)1 i=kof the k largest order statistics. This is achieved for k = k(n)→n→∞∞ with k/n→n→∞ 0.

In the case of vectors of central order statistics ( Zr:n, Zr+1:n,…, Zs:n ), with r/n and s/n both converging to q ∈ ( 0,1 ), it turns out that under fairly general conditions any order statistic Zm:n with r ≤ m ≤s builds the central sequence in a pertaining LAN expansion. These results lead to asymptotically optimal tests and estimators of the underlying parameter, which depend on single order statistics only  相似文献

Summary Moments and distributions of quadratic forms or quadratic expressions in normal variables are available in literature. Such quadratic expressions are shown to be equivalent to a linear function of independent central or noncentral chi-square variables. Some results on linear functions of generalized quadratic forms are also available in literature. Here we consider an arbitrary linear function of matrix-variate gamma variables. Moments of the determinant of such a linear function are evaluated when the matrix-variate gammas are independently distributed. By using these results, arbitrary non-null moments as well as the non-null distribution of the likelihood ratio criterion for testing the hypothesis of equality of covariance matrices in independent multivariate normal populations are derived. As a related result, the distribution of a linear function of independent matrix-variate gamma random variables, which includes linear functions of independent Wishart matrices, is also obtained. Some properties of generalized special functions of several matrix arguments are used in deriving these results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider a (k + 1)n-dimensional elliptically contoured random vector (XT1, X2T, …, XTk, ZT)T = (X11, …, X1n, …, Xk1, …, Xkn, Z1, …, Zn)T and derive the distribution of concomitant of multivariate order statistics arising from X1, X2, …, Xk. Specially, we derive a mixture representation for concomitant of bivariate order statistics. The joint distribution of the concomitant of bivariate order statistics is also obtained. Finally, the usefulness of our result is illustrated by a real-life data.  相似文献

Let X(1),…,X(n) be the order statistics of n iid distributed random variables. We prove that (X(i)) have a certain Markov property for general distributions and secondly that the order statistics have monotone conditional regression dependence. Both properties are well known in the case of continuous distributions.  相似文献

Given a random vector (X1,…, Xn) for which the univariate and bivariate marginal distributions belong to some specified families of distributions, we present a procedure for constructing families of multivariate distributions with the specified univariate and bivariate margins. Some general properties of the resulting families of multivariate distributions are reviewed. This procedure is illustrated by generalizing the bivariate Plackett (1965) and Clayton (1978) distributions to three dimensions. In addition to providing rich families of models for data analysis, this method of construction provides a convenient way of simulating observations from multivariate distributions with specific types of univariate and bivariate marginal distributions. A general algorithm for simulating random observations from these families of multivariate distributions is presented  相似文献

Two methods for approximating the distribution of a noncentral random variable by a central distribution in the same family are presented. The first consists of relating a stochastic expansion of a random variable to a corresponding asymptotic expansion for its distribution function. The second approximates the cumulant generating function and is used to provide central χ2 and gamma approximations to the noncentral χ2 and gamma distributions.  相似文献

In this paper an expression for the inverse moment of order r is given for the truncated binomial and Poisson distributions. This enables one to obtain inverse moments in a finite series. Some applications and multivariate generalizations are also given. The method also enables one to obtain relations between inverse moments and factorial moments and distributions of sums of variables.  相似文献

Let T2 i=z′iS?1zi, i==,…k be correlated Hotelling's T2 statistics under normality. where z=(z′i,…,z′k)′ and nS are independently distributed as Nkp((O,ρ?∑) and Wishart distribution Wp(∑, n), respectively. The purpose of this paper is to study the distribution function F(x1,…,xk) of (T2 i,…,T2 k) when n is large. First we derive an asymptotic expansion of the characteristic function of (T2 i,…,T2 k) up to the order n?2. Next we give asymptotic expansions for (T2 i,…,T2 k) in two cases (i)ρ=Ik and (ii) k=2 by inverting the expanded characteristic function up to the orders n?2 and n?1, respectively. Our results can be applied to the distribution function of max (T2 i,…,T2 k) as a special case.  相似文献

A sequence of independent random variables {Zn:n≥ 1} with unknown probability distributions is considered and the problem of estimating their expectations {Mn+1: n≥ 1} is examined. The estimation of Mn+1 is based on a finite set {zk:1≤kn}, each zk being an observed value of Zk, 1 ≤kn, and also based on the assumption that {Mn:n≥ 1} follows an unknown trend of a specified form.  相似文献

In this article we obtain some novel results on pairwise quasi-asymptotically independent (pQAI) random variables. Concretely speaking, let X1, …, Xn be n real-valued pQAI random variables, and W1, …, Wn be another n non negative and arbitrarily dependent random variables, but independent of X1, …, Xn. Under some mild conditions, we prove that W1X1, …, WnXn are still pQAI as well. Our result is in a general setting whether the primary random variables X1, …, Xn are heavy-tailed or not. Finally, a special case of above result is applied to risk theory for investigating the finite-time ruin probability for a discrete-time risk model with a wide type of dependence structure.  相似文献
