High-dimensional data often exhibit multi-collinearity, leading to unstable regression coefficients. To address sample selection bias and problems associated with high dimensionality, principal components were extracted and used as predictors in a switching regression model. Since principal component regression often results to decline in predictive ability due to the selection of few principal components, we formulate the model with nonparametric function of principal components in lieu of individual predictors. Simulation studies indicated better predictive ability for nonparametric principal component switching regression over the parametric counterpart while mitigating the adverse effects of multi-collinearity and high dimensionality.  相似文献

This study compares the SPSS ordinary least squares (OLS) regression and ridge regression procedures in dealing with multicollinearity data. The LS regression method is one of the most frequently applied statistical procedures in application. It is well documented that the LS method is extremely unreliable in parameter estimation while the independent variables are dependent (multicollinearity problem). The Ridge Regression procedure deals with the multicollinearity problem by introducing a small bias in the parameter estimation. The application of Ridge Regression involves the selection of a bias parameter and it is not clear if it works better in applications. This study uses a Monte Carlo method to compare the results of OLS procedure with the Ridge Regression procedure in SPSS.  相似文献

Several biased estimators have been proposed as alternatives to the least squares estimator when multicollinearity is present in the multiple linear regression model. The ridge estimator and the principal components estimator are two techniques that have been proposed for such problems. In this paper the class of fractional principal component estimators is developed for the multiple linear regression model. This class contains many of the biased estimators commonly used to combat multicollinearity. In the fractional principal components framework, two new estimation techniques are introduced. The theoretical performances of the new estimators are evaluated and their small sample properties are compared via simulation with the ridge, generalized ridge and principal components estimators  相似文献

In regression analysis, to deal with the problem of multicollinearity, the restricted principal components regression estimator is proposed. In this paper, we compared the restricted principal components regression estimator, the principal components regression estimator, and the ordinary least-squares estimator with each other under the Pitman's closeness criterion. We showed that the restricted principal components regression estimator is always superior to the principal components regression estimator, under certain conditions the restricted principal components regression estimator is superior to the ordinary least-squares estimator under the Pitman's closeness criterion and under certain conditions the principal components regression estimator is superior to the ordinary least-squares estimator under the Pitman's closeness criterion.  相似文献

In the presence of multicollinearity the literature points to principal component regression (PCR) as an estimation method for the regression coefficients of a multiple regression model. Due to ambiguities in the interpretation, involved by the orthogonal transformation of the set of explanatory variables, the method could not yet gain wide acceptance. Factor analysis regression (FAR) provides a model-based estimation method which is particularly tailored to overcome multicollinearity in an errors-in-variables setting. In this paper two feasible versions of a FAR estimator are compared with the OLS estimator and the PCR estimator by means of Monte Carlo simulation. While the PCR estimator performs best in cases of strong and high multicollinearity, the Thomson-based FAR estimator proves to be superior when the regressors are moderately correlated.  相似文献

In modeling count data with multivariate predictors, we often encounter problems with clustering of observations and interdependency of predictors. We propose to use principal components of predictors to mitigate the multicollinearity problem and to abate information losses due to dimension reduction, a semiparametric link between the count dependent variable and the principal components is postulated. Clustering of observations is accounted into the model as a random component and the model is estimated via the backfitting algorithm. Simulation study illustrates the advantages of the proposed model over standard poisson regression in a wide range of scenarios.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

As a compromise between parametric regression and non-parametric regression models, partially linear models are frequently used in statistical modelling. This paper is concerned with the estimation of partially linear regression model in the presence of multicollinearity. Based on the profile least-squares approach, we propose a novel principal components regression (PCR) estimator for the parametric component. When some additional linear restrictions on the parametric component are available, we construct a corresponding restricted PCR estimator. Some simulations are conducted to examine the performance of our proposed estimators and the results are satisfactory. Finally, a real data example is analysed.  相似文献

The paper proposes a cross-validation method to address the question of specification search in a multiple nonlinear quantile regression framework. Linear parametric, spline-based partially linear and kernel-based fully nonparametric specifications are contrasted as competitors using cross-validated weighted L 1-norm based goodness-of-fit and prediction error criteria. The aim is to provide a fair comparison with respect to estimation accuracy and/or predictive ability for different semi- and nonparametric specification paradigms. This is challenging as the model dimension cannot be estimated for all competitors and the meta-parameters such as kernel bandwidths, spline knot numbers and polynomial degrees are difficult to compare. General issues of specification comparability and automated data-driven meta-parameter selection are discussed. The proposed method further allows us to assess the balance between fit and model complexity. An extensive Monte Carlo study and an application to a well-known data set provide empirical illustration of the method.  相似文献

Shrinkage estimator is a commonly applied solution to the general problem caused by multicollinearity. Recently, the ridge regression (RR) estimators for estimating the ridge parameter k in the negative binomial (NB) regression have been proposed. The Jackknifed estimators are obtained to remedy the multicollinearity and reduce the bias. A simulation study is provided to evaluate the performance of estimators. Both mean squared error (MSE) and the percentage relative error (PRE) are considered as the performance criteria. The simulated result indicated that some of proposed Jackknifed estimators should be preferred to the ML method and ridge estimators to reduce MSE and bias.

We will pursue a Bayesian nonparametric approach in the hierarchical mixture modelling of lifetime data in two situations: density estimation, when the distribution is a mixture of parametric densities with a nonparametric mixing measure, and accelerated failure time (AFT) regression modelling, when the same type of mixture is used for the distribution of the error term. The Dirichlet process is a popular choice for the mixing measure, yielding a Dirichlet process mixture model for the error; as an alternative, we also allow the mixing measure to be equal to a normalized inverse-Gaussian prior, built from normalized inverse-Gaussian finite dimensional distributions, as recently proposed in the literature. Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques will be used to estimate the predictive distribution of the survival time, along with the posterior distribution of the regression parameters. A comparison between the two models will be carried out on the grounds of their predictive power and their ability to identify the number of components in a given mixture density.  相似文献

A new modified Jackknifed estimator for the Poisson regression model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The Poisson regression is very popular in applied researches when analyzing the count data. However, multicollinearity problem arises for the Poisson regression model when the independent variables are highly intercorrelated. Shrinkage estimator is a commonly applied solution to the general problem caused by multicollinearity. Recently, the ridge regression (RR) estimators and some methods for estimating the ridge parameter k in the Poisson regression have been proposed. It has been found that some estimators are better than the commonly used maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator and some other RR estimators. In this study, the modified Jackknifed Poisson ridge regression (MJPR) estimator is proposed to remedy the multicollinearity. A simulation study and a real data example are provided to evaluate the performance of estimators. Both mean-squared error and the percentage relative error are considered as the performance criteria. The simulation study and the real data example results show that the proposed MJPR method outperforms the Poisson ridge regression, Jackknifed Poisson ridge regression and the ML in all of the different situations evaluated in this paper.  相似文献

This work focuses on the linear regression model with functional covariate and scalar response. We compare the performance of two (parametric) linear regression estimators and a nonparametric (kernel) estimator via a Monte Carlo simulation study and the analysis of two real data sets. The first linear estimator expands the predictor and the regression weight function in terms of the trigonometric basis, while the second one uses functional principal components. The choice of the regularization degree in the linear estimators is addressed.  相似文献

Özkale and Kaçiranlar introduced the restricted two-parameter estimator (RTPE) to deal with the well-known multicollinearity problem in linear regression model. In this paper, the restricted almost unbiased two-parameter estimator (RAUTPE) based on the RTPE is presented. The quadratic bias and mean-squared error of the proposed estimator is discussed and compared with the corresponding competitors in literatures. Furthermore, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation study are given to explain some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

The backfitting algorithm commonly used in estimating additive models is used to decompose the component shares explained by a set of predictors on a dependent variable in the presence of linear dependencies (multicollinearity) among the predictors. Simulated and actual data show that the backfitting methods are superior in terms of predictive ability as the degree of multicollinearity worsens. Furthermore, the additive smoothing splines are especially superior when the linear model yield inadequate fit to the data and the predictors exhibit extreme multicollinearity.  相似文献

In this article a class of restricted minimum bias linear estimators of the vector of unknown regression coefficients when multicollinearity among the columns of the design matrix exists, is obtained. The ordinary ridge regression, principal components and shrinkage estimators are members of this class. Moreover, our ap-proach can be used to improve, in some sense, certain classes of generalized ridge and shrinkage estimators of the vector of un-known parameters in linear models.  相似文献

Autocorrelation in errors and multicollinearity among the regressors are serious problems in regression analysis. The aim of this paper is to examine multicollinearity and autocorrelation problems concurrently and to compare the r ? k class estimator to the generalized least squares estimator, the principal components regression estimator and the ridge regression estimator by the scalar and matrix mean square error criteria in the linear regression model with correlated errors.  相似文献

The binary logistic regression is a widely used statistical method when the dependent variable has two categories. In most of the situations of logistic regression, independent variables are collinear which is called the multicollinearity problem. It is known that multicollinearity affects the variance of maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) negatively. Therefore, this article introduces new shrinkage parameters for the Liu-type estimators in the Liu (2003) in the logistic regression model defined by Huang (2012) in order to decrease the variance and overcome the problem of multicollinearity. A Monte Carlo study is designed to show the goodness of the proposed estimators over MLE in the sense of mean squared error (MSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). Moreover, a real data case is given to demonstrate the advantages of the new shrinkage parameters.  相似文献

This article considers both Partial Least Squares (PLS) and Ridge Regression (RR) methods to combat multicollinearity problem. A simulation study has been conducted to compare their performances with respect to Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). With varying degrees of multicollinearity, it is found that both, PLS and RR, estimators produce significant reductions in the Mean Square Error (MSE) and Prediction Mean Square Error (PMSE) over OLS. However, from the simulation study it is evident that the RR performs better when the error variance is large and the PLS estimator achieves its best results when the model includes more variables. However, the advantage of the ridge regression method over PLS is that it can provide the 95% confidence interval for the regression coefficients while PLS cannot.  相似文献

In this article, we present a principal component Liu-type estimator (LTE) by combining the principal component regression (PCR) and LTE to deal with the multicollinearity problem. The superiority of the new estimator over the PCR estimator, the ordinary least squares estimator (OLSE) and the LTE are studied under the mean squared error matrix. The selection of the tuning parameter in the proposed estimator is also discussed. Finally, a numerical example is given to explain our theoretical results.  相似文献
