In this paper, maximum likelihood and Bayes estimators of the parameters, reliability and hazard functions have been obtained for two-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution when sample is available from progressive Type-II censoring scheme. The Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is used to compute the Bayes estimates of the model parameters. It has been assumed that the parameters have gamma priors and they are independently distributed. Gibbs within the Metropolis–Hasting algorithm has been applied to generate MCMC samples from the posterior density function. Based on the generated samples, the Bayes estimates and highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters as well as reliability and hazard functions have been computed. The results of Bayes estimators are obtained under both the balanced-squared error loss and balanced linear-exponential (BLINEX) loss. Moreover, based on the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimators the approximate confidence intervals (CIs) are obtained. In order to construct the asymptotic CI of the reliability and hazard functions, we need to find the variance of them, which are approximated by delta and Bootstrap methods. Two real data sets have been analyzed to demonstrate how the proposed methods can be used in practice.  相似文献

In this paper, the estimation of parameters, reliability and hazard functions of a inverted exponentiated half logistic distribution (IEHLD) from progressive Type II censored data has been considered. The Bayes estimates for progressive Type II censored IEHLD under asymmetric and symmetric loss functions such as squared error, general entropy and linex loss function are provided. The Bayes estimates for progressive Type II censored IEHLD parameters, reliability and hazard functions are also obtained under the balanced loss functions. However, the Bayes estimates cannot be obtained explicitly, Lindley approximation method and importance sampling procedure are considered to obtain the Bayes estimates. Furthermore, the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimates is used to obtain the approximate confidence intervals. The highest posterior density credible intervals of the parameters based on importance sampling procedure are computed. Simulations are performed to see the performance of the proposed estimates. For illustrative purposes, two data sets have been analyzed.  相似文献

In this paper, the estimation of parameters for a generalized inverted exponential distribution based on the progressively first-failure type-II right-censored sample is studied. An expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm is developed to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of unknown parameters as well as reliability and hazard functions. Using the missing value principle, the Fisher information matrix has been obtained for constructing asymptotic confidence intervals. An exact interval and an exact confidence region for the parameters are also constructed. Bayesian procedures based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods have been developed to approximate the posterior distribution of the parameters of interest and in addition to deduce the corresponding credible intervals. The performances of the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimators are compared in terms of their mean-squared errors through the simulation study. Furthermore, Bayes two-sample point and interval predictors are obtained when the future sample is ordinary order statistics. The squared error, linear-exponential and general entropy loss functions have been considered for obtaining the Bayes estimators and predictors. To illustrate the discussed procedures, a set of real data is analyzed.  相似文献

The present study deals with the method of estimation of the parameters of k-components load-sharing parallel system model in which each component’s failure time distribution is assumed to be geometric. The maximum likelihood estimates of the load-share parameters with their standard errors are obtained. (1 − γ) 100% joint, Bonferroni simultaneous and two bootstrap confidence intervals for the parameters have been constructed. Further, recognizing the fact that life testing experiments are time consuming, it seems realistic to consider the load-share parameters to be random variable. Therefore, Bayes estimates along with their standard errors of the parameters are obtained by assuming Jeffrey’s invariant and gamma priors for the unknown parameters. Since, Bayes estimators can not be found in closed form expressions, Tierney and Kadane’s approximation method have been used to compute Bayes estimates and standard errors of the parameters. Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique such as Gibbs sampler is also used to obtain Bayes estimates and highest posterior density credible intervals of the load-share parameters. Metropolis–Hastings algorithm is used to generate samples from the posterior distributions of the unknown parameters.  相似文献

In this paper, a new life test plan called a progressively first-failure-censoring scheme introduced by Wu and Ku? [On estimation based on progressive first-failure-censored sampling, Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 53(10) (2009), pp. 3659–3670] is considered. Based on this type of censoring, the maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayes estimates for some survival time parameters namely reliability and hazard functions, as well as the parameters of the Burr-XII distribution are obtained. The Bayes estimators relative to both the symmetric and asymmetric loss functions are discussed. We use the conjugate prior for the one-shape parameter and discrete prior for the other parameter. Exact and approximate confidence intervals with the exact confidence region for the two-shape parameters are derived. A numerical example using the real data set is provided to illustrate the proposed estimation methods developed here. The ML and the different Bayes estimates are compared via a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider estimation of unknown parameters of an inverted exponentiated Rayleigh distribution under type II progressive censored samples. Estimation of reliability and hazard functions is also considered. Maximum likelihood estimators are obtained using the Expectation–Maximization (EM) algorithm. Further, we obtain expected Fisher information matrix using the missing value principle. Bayes estimators are derived under squared error and linex loss functions. We have used Lindley, and Tiernery and Kadane methods to compute these estimates. In addition, Bayes estimators are computed using importance sampling scheme as well. Samples generated from this scheme are further utilized for constructing highest posterior density intervals for unknown parameters. For comparison purposes asymptotic intervals are also obtained. A numerical comparison is made between proposed estimators using simulations and observations are given. A real-life data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this article, we deal with a two-parameter exponentiated half-logistic distribution. We consider the estimation of unknown parameters, the associated reliability function and the hazard rate function under progressive Type II censoring. Maximum likelihood estimates (M LEs) are proposed for unknown quantities. Bayes estimates are derived with respect to squared error, linex and entropy loss functions. Approximate explicit expressions for all Bayes estimates are obtained using the Lindley method. We also use importance sampling scheme to compute the Bayes estimates. Markov Chain Monte Carlo samples are further used to produce credible intervals for the unknown parameters. Asymptotic confidence intervals are constructed using the normality property of the MLEs. For comparison purposes, bootstrap-p and bootstrap-t confidence intervals are also constructed. A comprehensive numerical study is performed to compare the proposed estimates. Finally, a real-life data set is analysed to illustrate the proposed methods of estimation.  相似文献

Exponential distribution has an extensive application in reliability. Introducing shape parameter to this distribution have produced various distribution functions. In their study in 2009, Gupta and Kundu brought another distribution function using Azzalini's method, which is applicable in reliability and named as weighted exponential (WE) distribution. The parameters of this distribution function have been recently estimated by the above two authors in classical statistics. In this paper, Bayesian estimates of the parameters are derived. To achieve this purpose we use Lindley's approximation method for the integrals that cannot be solved in closed form. Furthermore, a Gibbs sampling procedure is used to draw Markov chain Monte Carlo samples from the posterior distribution indirectly and then the Bayes estimates of parameters are derived. The estimation of reliability and hazard functions are also discussed. At the end of the paper, some comparisons between classical and Bayesian estimation methods are studied by using Monte Carlo simulation study. The simulation study incorporates complete and Type-II censored samples.  相似文献

The Gompertz distribution has been used as a growth model, especially in epidemiological and biomedical studies. Based on Type I and II censored samples from a heterogeneous population that can be represented by a finite mixture of two-component Gompertz lifetime model, the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates of the parameters, reliability and hazard rate functions are obtained. An approximation form due to Lindley (1980) is used in obtaining the corresponding Bayes estimates. The maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates are comparedvia a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

In this paper, the statistical inference of the unknown parameters of a two-parameter inverse Weibull (IW) distribution based on the progressive type-II censored sample has been considered. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) cannot be obtained in explicit forms, hence the approximate MLEs are proposed, which are in explicit forms. The Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators for the IW parameters and the reliability function based on the squared error and Linex loss functions are provided. The Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators cannot be obtained explicitly, hence Lindley's approximation is used to obtain the Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators. Furthermore, the highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters based on Gibbs sampling technique are computed, and using an optimality criterion the optimal censoring scheme has been suggested. Simulation experiments are performed to see the effectiveness of the different estimators. Finally, two data sets have been analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

We consider estimation of the unknown parameters of Chen distribution [Chen Z. A new two-parameter lifetime distribution with bathtub shape or increasing failure rate function. Statist Probab Lett. 2000;49:155–161] with bathtub shape using progressive-censored samples. We obtain maximum likelihood estimates by making use of an expectation–maximization algorithm. Different Bayes estimates are derived under squared error and balanced squared error loss functions. It is observed that the associated posterior distribution appears in an intractable form. So we have used an approximation method to compute these estimates. A Metropolis–Hasting algorithm is also proposed and some more approximate Bayes estimates are obtained. Asymptotic confidence interval is constructed using observed Fisher information matrix. Bootstrap intervals are proposed as well. Sample generated from MH algorithm are further used in the construction of HPD intervals. Finally, we have obtained prediction intervals and estimates for future observations in one- and two-sample situations. A numerical study is conducted to compare the performance of proposed methods using simulations. Finally, we analyse real data sets for illustration purposes.  相似文献

Based on hybrid censored data, the problem of making statistical inference on parameters of a two parameter Burr Type XII distribution is taken up. The maximum likelihood estimates are developed for the unknown parameters using the EM algorithm. Fisher information matrix is obtained by applying missing value principle and is further utilized for constructing the approximate confidence intervals. Some Bayes estimates and the corresponding highest posterior density intervals of the unknown parameters are also obtained. Lindley’s approximation method and a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique have been applied to evaluate these Bayes estimates. Further, MCMC samples are utilized to construct the highest posterior density intervals as well. A numerical comparison is made between proposed estimates in terms of their mean square error values and comments are given. Finally, two data sets are analyzed using proposed methods.  相似文献

A large number of models have been derived from the two-parameter Weibull distribution including the inverse Weibull (IW) model which is found suitable for modeling the complex failure data set. In this paper, we present the Bayesian inference for the mixture of two IW models. For this purpose, the Bayes estimates of the parameters of the mixture model along with their posterior risks using informative as well as the non-informative prior are obtained. These estimates have been attained considering two cases: (a) when the shape parameter is known and (b) when all parameters are unknown. For the former case, Bayes estimates are obtained under three loss functions while for the latter case only the squared error loss function is used. Simulation study is carried out in order to explore numerical aspects of the proposed Bayes estimators. A real-life data set is also presented for both cases, and parameters obtained under case when shape parameter is known are tested through testing of hypothesis procedure.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches for estimating the parameters and the prediction of future record values for the Kumaraswamy distribution has been considered when the lower record values along with the number of observations following the record values (inter-record-times) have been observed. The Bayes estimates are obtained based on a joint bivariate prior for the shape parameters. In this case, Bayes estimates of the parameters have been developed by using Lindley's approximation and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method due to the lack of explicit forms under the squared error and the linear-exponential loss functions. The MCMC method has been also used to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals. The Bayes and the maximum likelihood estimates are compared by using the estimated risk through Monte Carlo simulations. We further consider the non-Bayesian and Bayesian prediction for future lower record values arising from the Kumaraswamy distribution based on record values with their corresponding inter-record times and only record values. The comparison of the derived predictors are carried out by using Monte Carlo simulations. Real data are analysed for an illustration of the findings.  相似文献

In this article, point and interval estimations of the parameters α and β of the inverse Weibull distribution (IWD) have been studied based on Balakrishnan’s unified hybrid censoring scheme (UHCS), see Balakrishnan et al. In point estimation, the maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayes (B) methods have been used. The Bayes estimates have been computed based on squared error loss (SEL) function and Linex loss function and using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. In interval estimation, a (1 ? τ) × 100% approximate, bootstrap-p, credible and highest posterior density (HPD) confidence intervals (CIs) for the parameters α and β have been introduced. Based on Monte Carlo simulation, Bayes estimates have been compared with their corresponding maximum likelihood estimates by computing the mean squared errors (MSEs) of all estimators. Finally, point and interval estimations of all parameters have been studied based on a real data set as an illustrative example.  相似文献

A compound class of zero truncated Poisson and lifetime distributions is introduced. A specialization is paved to a new three-parameter distribution, called doubly Poisson-exponential distribution, which may represent the lifetime of units connected in a series-parallel system. The new distribution can be obtained by compounding two zero truncated Poisson distributions with an exponential distribution. Among its motivations is that its hazard rate function can take different shapes such as decreasing, increasing and upside-down bathtub depending on the values of its parameters. Several properties of the new distribution are discussed. Based on progressive type-II censoring, six estimation methods [maximum likelihood, moments, least squares, weighted least squares and Bayes (under linear-exponential and general entropy loss functions) estimations] are used to estimate the involved parameters. The performance of these methods is investigated through a simulation study. The Bayes estimates are obtained using Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm. In addition, confidence intervals, symmetric credible intervals and highest posterior density credible intervals of the parameters are obtained. Finally, an application to a real data set is used to compare the new distribution with other five distributions.  相似文献

In this article, based on progressively Type-II censored samples from a heterogeneous population that can be represented by a finite mixture of two-component Rayleigh lifetime model, the problem of estimating the parameters and some lifetime parameters (reliability and hazard functions) are considered. Both Bayesian and maximum likelihood estimators are of interest. A class of natural conjugate prior densities is considered in the Bayesian setting. The Bayes estimators are obtained using both the symmetric (squared error) loss function, and the asymmetric (LINEX and General Entropy) loss functions. It has been seen that the estimators obtained can be easily evaluated for this type of censoring by using suitable numerical methods. Finally, the performance of the estimates have been compared on the basis of their simulated maximum square error via a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the analysis of hybrid censored competing risks data, based on Cox's latent failure time model assumptions. It is assumed that lifetime distributions of latent causes of failure follow Weibull distribution with the same shape parameter, but different scale parameters. Maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters can be obtained by solving a one-dimensional optimization problem, and we propose a fixed-point type algorithm to solve this optimization problem. Approximate MLEs have been proposed based on Taylor series expansion, and they have explicit expressions. Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters are obtained based on the assumption that the shape parameter has a log-concave prior density function, and for the given shape parameter, the scale parameters have Beta–Gamma priors. We propose to use Markov Chain Monte Carlo samples to compute Bayes estimates and also to construct highest posterior density credible intervals. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to investigate the performances of the different estimators, and two data sets have been analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating unknown parameters, reliability function and hazard function of a two parameter bathtub-shaped distribution on the basis of progressive type-II censored sample. The maximum likelihood estimators and Bayes estimators are derived for two unknown parameters, reliability function and hazard function. The Bayes estimators are obtained against squared error, LINEX and entropy loss functions. Also, using the Lindley approximation method we have obtained approximate Bayes estimators against these loss functions. Some numerical comparisons are made among various proposed estimators in terms of their mean square error values and some specific recommendations are given. Finally, two data sets are analyzed to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献
