Consider k( ? 2) normal populations with unknown means μ1, …, μk, and a common known variance σ2. Let μ[1] ? ??? ? μ[k] denote the ordered μi.The populations associated with the t(1 ? t ? k ? 1) largest means are called the t best populations. Hsu and Panchapakesan (2004) proposed and investigated a procedure RHPfor selecting a non empty subset of the k populations whose size is at most m(1 ? m ? k ? t) so that at least one of the t best populations is included in the selected subset with a minimum guaranteed probability P* whenever μ[k ? t + 1] ? μ[k ? t] ? δ*, where P*?and?δ* are specified in advance of the experiment. This probability requirement is known as the indifference-zone probability requirement. In the present article, we investigate the same procedure RHP for the same goal as before but when k ? t < m ? k ? 1 so that at least one of the t best populations is included in the selected subset with a minimum guaranteed probability P* whatever be the configuration of the unknown μi. The probability requirement in this latter case is termed the subset selection probability requirement. Santner (1976) proposed and investigated a different procedure (RS) based on samples of size n from each of the populations, considering both cases, 1 ? m ? k ? t and k ? t < m ? k. The special case of t = 1 was earlier studied by Gupta and Santner (1973) and Hsu and Panchapakesan (2002) for their respective procedures.  相似文献

Let π1…, πk denote k(≥ 2) populations with unknown means μ1 , …, μk and variances σ1 2 , …, σk 2 , respectively and let πo denote the control population having mean μo and variance σo 2 . It is assumed that these populations are normally distributed with correlation matrix {ρij}. The goal is to select a subset, of populations of π1 , …, πk which contains all the populations with means larger than or equal to the mean of the control one. Procedures are given for selecting such a subset so that the probability that all the populations with means larger than or equal to the mean of the control one are included in the selected subset is at least equal to a predetermined value P?(l/k < P? < 1). The goal treated here is a first step screening procedure that allows the experimenter to choose a subset and withhold judgement about which one has the largest mean. Then, if the one with the largest mean is desired it can be chosen from the selected subset on the basis of cost and other considerations. Percentage points are also included.  相似文献

Consider k(≥ 2) independent exponential populations Π1, Π2, …, Π k , having the common unknown location parameter μ ∈ (?∞, ∞) (also called the guarantee time) and unknown scale parameters σ1, σ2, …σ k , respectively (also called the remaining mean lifetimes after the completion of guarantee times), σ i  > 0, i = 1, 2, …, k. Assume that the correct ordering between σ1, σ2, …, σ k is not known apriori and let σ[i], i = 1, 2, …, k, denote the ith smallest of σ j s, so that σ[1] ≤ σ[2] ··· ≤ σ[k]. Then Θ i  = μ + σ i is the mean lifetime of Π i , i = 1, 2, …, k. Let Θ[1] ≤ Θ[2] ··· ≤ Θ[k] denote the ranked values of the Θ j s, so that Θ[i] = μ + σ[i], i = 1, 2, …, k, and let Π(i) denote the unknown population associated with the ith smallest mean lifetime Θ[i] = μ + σ[i], i = 1, 2, …, k. Based on independent random samples from the k populations, we propose a selection procedure for the goal of selecting the population having the longest mean lifetime Θ[k] (called the “best” population), under the subset selection formulation. Tables for the implementation of the proposed selection procedure are provided. It is established that the proposed subset selection procedure is monotone for a general k (≥ 2). For k = 2, we consider the loss measured by the size of the selected subset and establish that the proposed subset selection procedure is minimax among selection procedures that satisfy a certain probability requirement (called the P*-condition) for the inclusion of the best population in the selected subset.  相似文献

A two stage procedure is proposed which selects a subset of the k populations and guarantees with probability at least P? that the selected subset contains only δ?-optimal πi ’s. Let μ[i] (i = 1, …, k) denote the ith smallest one of μ1, …, μk. A two-stage procedure is used to construct lower and upper confidence intervals for μ[i] and then use these to obtain a class of two-sided confidence intervals on μ[i] with fixed width. For i = k, the interval given by Chen and Dudewicz (1976) is a special case. Comparison is made between the class of two-sided intervals and a symmetric interval proposed by Chen and Dudewicz (1976) for the largest mean, and it is found that for large values of k at least one of the former intervals requires a smaller total sample size. Based on a random sample of N independent vector observations on X, this paper considers both upper and lower (one-sided) and two-sided 100γ% (0 < γ < 1) confidence intervals for μ[k] and μ[1], the largest and the smallest mean, respectively, when Σ is known and when Σ is equal to σ2R with common unknown variance σ2 > 0 and correlation matrix R known, respectively. An optimum two-sided confidence interval via finding the shortest length from this class is also considered. Suppose a subset of populations is selected from k exponential populations with unknown location parameters θ1, θ2, …, θk and common known scale parameter σ. We consider the estimation of the location parameter of the selected population and the average worth of the selected subset under an asymmetric LINEX loss function. We show that the natural estimator of these parameters is biased and find the uniformly minimum risk-unbiased (UMRU) estimator of these parameters. In the case of k = 2, we find the minimax estimator of the location parameter of the smallest selected population. Furthermore, we compare numerically the risk of UMRU, minimax, and the natural estimators.  相似文献

This paper gives a two-sample procedure for selecting the m populations with the largest means from k normal populations with unknown variances. The method is a generalization of a recent work by Ofosu [1973] and hence should find wider practical applications. The experimenter takes an initial sample of preset size N0 from each population and computes an unbiased estimate of its variance. From this estimate he determines the second sample size for the population according to a table presented for this purpose. The populations associated with the m largest overall sample means will be selected. The procedure is shown to satisfy a confidence requirement similar to that of Ofosu.  相似文献

For selecting a nonempty subset of {∏1,…,∏ k } containing the best population (the one associated with max{σ1,…,σ k }), we use the decision rule which selects ∏ i if T i  ≥ c max{T 1,…,T k }, i = 1,…, k. Here 0 < c ≤ 1 is chosen so that the probability of including the best population in the selected subset is at least P* (1/k ≤ P* < 1), a pre-assigned level. The problem is to estimate the average worth W of the selected subset, the arithmetic average of means of selected populations. In this article, we derive the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) of W. The bias and risk function of the UMVUE are compared numerically with those of analogs of the best affine equivariant estimator (BAEE) and the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE).  相似文献

In this article, we establish some new results on stochastic comparisons of the maxima of two heterogenous gamma variables with different shape and scale parameters. Let X1 and X2 [X*1 and X*2] be two independent gamma variables with Xi?[X*i] having shape parameter ri?[r*i] and scale parameter λi?[λ*i], i = 1, 2. It is shown that the likelihood ratio order holds between the maxima, X2: 2 and X*2: 2 when λ1 = λ*1 ? λ2 = λ*2 and r1 ? r*1 ? r2 = r*2. We also prove that, if ri, r*i ∈ (0, 1], (r1, r2) majorizes (r*1, r2*), and (λ1, λ2) is p-larger than (λ*1, λ2*), then X2: 2 is larger than X*2: 2 in the sense of the hazard rate order [dispersive order]. Some numerical examples are provided to illustrate the main results. The new results established here strengthen and generalize some of the results known in the literature.  相似文献

For the quadratic model, a saturated symmetric axial design is used, in which support points are of the form (x1, . . . , xq) = [1 ? (q?1)δi, δi, . . . , δi], where i = 1, 2 and 0 ≤δ2 <δ1 ≤ 1/(q ?1). It is proved that when 3 ≤q≤ 6, the above design is D-optimal if δ2 = 0 and δ1 = 1/(q?1), and when q≥ 7 it is D-optimal if δ2 = 0 and δ1 = [5q?1 ? (9q2?10q + 1)1/2]/(4q2). Similar results exist for the cubic model, with support points of the form (x1, . . . , xq) = [1 ? (q?1)δi, δi, . . . , δi], where i = 1, 2, 3 and 0 = δ3 <δ2 < δ1 ≤1/(q?1). The saturated D-optimal axial design and D-optimal design for the quadratic model are compared in terms of their efficiency and uniformity.  相似文献

A class of invariant Bayes rules is derived for testing homogeneity of k (≥2) different populations against (kt) slippage alternatives that some (unknown) subset of size t of the given populations has parameter larger than the remaining k-t, where t is a given integer between 1 and k-1.
