A new control chart is proposed by using the belief statistic for the exponential distribution. The structure of the proposed control chart is given to measure the average run length for the shifted process. The comparison of the proposed chart is given with the existing charts in terms of the average run lengths, which shows the outperformance of the proposed chart. The performance of the proposed control chart is also discussed with the help of simulated data.  相似文献

The conventional Shewhart-type control chart is developed essentially on the central limit theorem. Thus, the Shewhart-type control chart performs particularly well when the observed process data come from a near-normal distribution. On the other hand, when the underlying distribution is unknown or non-normal, the sampling distribution of a parameter estimator may not be available theoretically. In this case, the Shewhart-type charts are not available. Thus, in this paper, we propose a parametric bootstrap control chart for monitoring percentiles when process measurements have an inverse Gaussian distribution. Through extensive Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate the behaviour and performance of the proposed bootstrap percentile charts. The average run lengths of the proposed percentage charts are investigated.  相似文献

Multivariate exponential weighted moving average and cumulative sum charts are the most common memory type multivariate control charts. They make use of the present and past information to detect small shifts in the process parameter(s). In this article, we propose two new multivariate control charts using a mixed version of their design setups. The plotting statistics of the proposed charts are based on the cumulative sum of the multivariate exponentially weighted moving averages. The performances of these schemes are evaluated in terms of average run length. The proposals are compared with their existing counterparts, including HotellingT2, MCUSUM, MEWMA, and MC1 charts. An application example is also presented for practical considerations using a real dataset.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new distribution-free Shewhart-type control chart that takes into account the location of a single order statistic of the test sample (such as the median) as well as the number of observations in that test sample that lie between the control limits. Exact formulae for the alarm rate, the run length distribution, and the average run length (ARL) are all derived. A key advantage of the chart is that, due to its nonparametric nature, the false alarm rate and in-control run length distribution are the same for all continuous process distributions, and so will be naturally robust. Tables are provided for the implementation of the chart for some typical ARL values and false alarm rates. The empirical study carried out reveals that the new chart is preferable from a robustness point of view in comparison to a classical Shewhart-type chart and also the nonparametric chart of Chakraborti et al. (2004 Chakraborti , S. , van der Laan , P. , van de Wiel , M. A. ( 2004 ). A class of distribution-free control charts . J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. C-Appl. The performance of several control charting schemes is studied when the process mean changes as a linear trend. The control charts considered include the Shewhart chart, the Shewhart chart supplemented with runs rules, the cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart, the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart, and a generalized control chart.  相似文献

The existing synthetic exponential control charts are based on the assumption of known in-control parameter. However, the in-control parameter has to be estimated from a Phase I dataset. In this article, we use the exact probability distribution, especially the percentiles, mean, and standard deviation of the conditional average run length (ARL) to evaluate the effect of parameter estimation on the performance of the Phase II synthetic exponential charts. This approach accounts for the variability in the conditional ARL values of the synthetic chart obtained by different practitioners. Since parameter estimation results in more false alarms than expected, we develop an exact method to design the adjusted synthetic charts with desired conditional in-control performance. Results of known and unknown in-control parameter cases show that the control limit of the conforming run length sub-chart of the synthetic chart should be as small as possible.  相似文献

A class of distribution-free control charts   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Summary.  A class of Shewhart-type distribution-free control charts is considered. A key advantage of these charts is that the in-control run length distribution is the same for all continuous process distributions. Exact expressions for the run length distribution and the average run length (ARL) are derived and properties of the charts are studied via evaluations of the run length distribution probabilities and the ARL. Tables are provided for implementation for some typical ARL values and false alarm rates. The charts proposed are preferable from a robustness point of view, have attractive ARL properties and would be particularly useful in situations where one uses a classical Shewhart   X -chart. A numerical illustration is given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The EWMA control chart is used to detect small shifts in a process. It has been shown that, for certain values of the smoothing parameter, the EWMA chart for the mean is robust to non normality. In this article, we examine the case of non normality in the EWMA charts for the dispersion. It is shown that we can have an EWMA chart for dispersion robust to non normality when non normality is not extreme.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently considerable research has been devoted to monitoring increases of incidence rate of adverse rare events. This paper extends some one-sided upper exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts from monitoring normal means to monitoring Poisson rate when sample sizes are varying over time. The approximated average run length bounds are derived for these EWMA-type charts and compared with the EWMA chart previously studied. Extensive simulations have been conducted to compare the performance of these EWMA-type charts. An illustrative example is given.  相似文献

Normally, an average run length (ARL) is used as a measure for evaluating the detecting performance of a multivariate control chart. This has a direct impact on the false alarm cost in Phase II. In this article, we first conduct a simulation study to calculate both in-control and out-of-control ARLs under various combinations of process shifts and number of samples. Then, a trade-off analysis between sampling inspection and false alarm costs is performed. Both the simulation results and trade-off analysis suggest that the optimal number of samples for constructing a multivariate control chart in Phase I can be determined.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this work, we proposed an adaptive multivariate cumulative sum (CUSUM) statistical process control chart for signaling a range of location shifts. This method was based on the multivariate CUSUM control chart proposed by Pignatiello and Runger (1990 Pignatiello, J.J., Runger, G.C. (1990). Comparisons of multivariate CUSUM charts. J. Qual. Technol. 22(3):173186.[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), but we adopted the adaptive approach similar to that discussed by Dai et al. (2011 Dai, Y., Luo, Y., Li, Z., Wang, Z. (2011). A new adaptive CUSUM control chart for detecting the multivariate process mean. Qual. Reliab. Eng. Int. 27(7):877884.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), which was based on a different CUSUM method introduced by Crosier (1988 Crosier, R.B. (1988). Multivariate generalizations of cumulative sum quality-control schemes. Technometrics 30(3):291303.[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). The reference value in this proposed procedure was changed adaptively in each run, with the current mean shift estimated by exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) statistic. By specifying the minimal magnitude of the mean shift, our proposed control chart achieved a good overall performance for detecting a range of shifts rather than a single value. We compared our adaptive multivariate CUSUM method with that of Dai et al. (2001 Dai, Y., Luo, Y., Li, Z., Wang, Z. (2011). A new adaptive CUSUM control chart for detecting the multivariate process mean. Qual. Reliab. Eng. Int. 27(7):877884.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and the non adaptive versions of these two methods, by evaluating both the steady state and zero state average run length (ARL) values. The detection efficiency of our method showed improvements over the comparative methods when the location shift is unknown but falls within an expected range.  相似文献

In this article, we provide a nonparametric Shewhart-type synthetic control chart based on the signed-rank statistic to monitor shifts in the known in-control process median. The synthetic control chart is a combination of a signed-rank chart due to Bakir (2004 Bakir , S. T. ( 2004 ). A distribution-free Shewhart quality control chart based on signed-ranks . Quality Engineering 16 : 613623 .[Taylor & Francis Online] [Google Scholar]) and a conforming run length chart due to Bourke (1991 Bourke , P. D. ( 1991 ). Detecting a shift in fraction nonconforming using run-length control charts with 100% inspection . Journal of Quality Technology 23 : 225238 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). The operation and design of the chart are discussed and the performance of the chart has been studied. The chart has an attractive average run length behavior as compared to the parametric control chart for a class of symmetric continuous process distributions. The proposed chart performs better than the nonparametric signed-rank chart given by Bakir (2004 Bakir , S. T. ( 2004 ). A distribution-free Shewhart quality control chart based on signed-ranks . Quality Engineering 16 : 613623 .[Taylor & Francis Online] [Google Scholar]) and Chakraborti and Eryilmaz (2007 Chakraborti , S. , Eryilmaz , S. (2007). A nonparametric Shewhart-type signed-rank control chart based on runs. A new process monitoring scheme is proposed by using the Storey procedure for controlling the positive false discovery rate in multiple testing. For the 2-span control scheme, it is shown numerically that the proposed method performs better than X-bar chart in terms of the average run length. Some simulations are accomplished to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of the average run length and the conditional expected delay. The results are compared with those of the existing monitoring schemes including the X-bar chart. The false discovery rate is also estimated and compared with the target control level.  相似文献

In a process, the deviation from location or scale parameters affects the quality of the process and waste resources. So it is essential to monitor such processes for possible changes due to any assignable causes. Control charts are the most famous tool used to meet this intention. It is useless to monitor process location until the assurance that process dispersion is in-control. This study proposes some new two-sided memory control charts named as progressive variance (PV) control charts which are based on sample variance to monitor changes in process dispersion assuming normality of quality characteristic to be monitored. Simulation studies are made, and an example is discussed to evaluate the performance of the proposed charts. The comparison of the proposed chart is made with exponentially weighted moving average- and cumulative sum-type charts for process dispersion. The study shows that performance of the proposed charts are uniformly better than its competitors for detecting positive shifts while for detecting negative shift in the variance their performance is better for small shifts and reasonably good for moderated shifts.  相似文献

A synthetic mean square error (MSE) control chart is presented in this study for monitoring the changes in the mean and standard deviation of a normally distributed process. The synthetic MSE control chart is a combination of the standard MSE control chart and the conforming run length (CRL) control chart. From the numerical comparisons, the synthetic MSE control chart is always more efficient than the standard MSE control chart in detecting shifts in the process mean and standard deviation. The synthetic MSE chart also performs better than the exponentially weighted moving average-semicircle (EWMA-SC) chart, except for some cases where the process mean shifts are small.  相似文献

Good control charts for high quality processes are often based on the number of successes between failures. Geometric charts are simplest in this respect, but slow in recognizing moderately increased failure rates p. Improvement can be achieved by waiting until r>1 failures have occurred, i.e. by using negative binomial charts. In this paper we analyze such charts in some detail. On the basis of a fair comparison, we demonstrate how the optimal r is related to the degree of increase of p. As in practice p will usually be unknown, we also analyze the estimated version of the charts. In particular, simple corrections are derived to control the nonnegligible effects of this estimation step.  相似文献

For attribute data with (very) small failure rates often control charts are used which decide whether to stop or to continue each time r failures have occurred, for some r?1. Because of the small probabilities involved, such charts are very sensitive to estimation effects. This is true in particular if the underlying failure rate varies and hence the distributions involved are not geometric. Such a situation calls for a nonparametric approach, but this may require far more Phase I observations than are typically available in practice. In the present paper it is shown how this obstacle can be effectively overcome by looking not at the sum but rather at the maximum of each group of size r.  相似文献

In this study, a control chart is constructed to monitor multivariate Poisson count data, called the MP chart. The control limits of the MP chart are developed by an exact probability method based on the sum of defects or non conformities for each quality characteristic. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the MP chart. The MP chart is evaluated by the average run length (ARL) in simulation. The result indicates that the MP chart is more appropriate than the Shewhart-type control chart when the correlation between variables exists.  相似文献
