Sliced Inverse Regression (SIR) is an effective method for dimension reduction in high-dimensional regression problems. The original method, however, requires the inversion of the predictors covariance matrix. In case of collinearity between these predictors or small sample sizes compared to the dimension, the inversion is not possible and a regularization technique has to be used. Our approach is based on a Fisher Lecture given by R.D. Cook where it is shown that SIR axes can be interpreted as solutions of an inverse regression problem. We propose to introduce a Gaussian prior distribution on the unknown parameters of the inverse regression problem in order to regularize their estimation. We show that some existing SIR regularizations can enter our framework, which permits a global understanding of these methods. Three new priors are proposed leading to new regularizations of the SIR method. A comparison on simulated data as well as an application to the estimation of Mars surface physical properties from hyperspectral images are provided.  相似文献

Existing research on mixtures of regression models are limited to directly observed predictors. The estimation of mixtures of regression for measurement error data imposes challenges for statisticians. For linear regression models with measurement error data, the naive ordinary least squares method, which directly substitutes the observed surrogates for the unobserved error-prone variables, yields an inconsistent estimate for the regression coefficients. The same inconsistency also happens to the naive mixtures of regression estimate, which is based on the traditional maximum likelihood estimator and simply ignores the measurement error. To solve this inconsistency, we propose to use the deconvolution method to estimate the mixture likelihood of the observed surrogates. Then our proposed estimate is found by maximizing the estimated mixture likelihood. In addition, a generalized EM algorithm is also developed to find the estimate. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed estimation procedures work well and perform much better than the naive estimates.  相似文献

In most practical applications, the quality of count data is often compromised due to errors-in-variables (EIVs). In this paper, we apply Bayesian approach to reduce bias in estimating the parameters of count data regression models that have mismeasured independent variables. Furthermore, the exposure model is misspecified with a flexible distribution, hence our approach remains robust against any departures from normality in its true underlying exposure distribution. The proposed method is also useful in realistic situations as the variance of EIVs is estimated instead of assumed as known, in contrast with other methods of correcting bias especially in count data EIVs regression models. We conduct simulation studies on synthetic data sets using Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation techniques to investigate the performance of our approach. Our findings show that the flexible Bayesian approach is able to estimate the values of the true regression parameters consistently and accurately.  相似文献

This paper considers quantile regression models using an asymmetric Laplace distribution from a Bayesian point of view. We develop a simple and efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm for fitting the quantile regression model based on a location-scale mixture representation of the asymmetric Laplace distribution. It is shown that the resulting Gibbs sampler can be accomplished by sampling from either normal or generalized inverse Gaussian distribution. We also discuss some possible extensions of our approach, including the incorporation of a scale parameter, the use of double exponential prior, and a Bayesian analysis of Tobit quantile regression. The proposed methods are illustrated by both simulated and real data.  相似文献

Multivariate mixture regression models can be used to investigate the relationships between two or more response variables and a set of predictor variables by taking into consideration unobserved population heterogeneity. It is common to take multivariate normal distributions as mixing components, but this mixing model is sensitive to heavy-tailed errors and outliers. Although normal mixture models can approximate any distribution in principle, the number of components needed to account for heavy-tailed distributions can be very large. Mixture regression models based on the multivariate t distributions can be considered as a robust alternative approach. Missing data are inevitable in many situations and parameter estimates could be biased if the missing values are not handled properly. In this paper, we propose a multivariate t mixture regression model with missing information to model heterogeneity in regression function in the presence of outliers and missing values. Along with the robust parameter estimation, our proposed method can be used for (i) visualization of the partial correlation between response variables across latent classes and heterogeneous regressions, and (ii) outlier detection and robust clustering even under the presence of missing values. We also propose a multivariate t mixture regression model using MM-estimation with missing information that is robust to high-leverage outliers. The proposed methodologies are illustrated through simulation studies and real data analysis.  相似文献

Clinical studies in overactive bladder have traditionally used analysis of covariance or nonparametric methods to analyse the number of incontinence episodes and other count data. It is known that if the underlying distributional assumptions of a particular parametric method do not hold, an alternative parametric method may be more efficient than a nonparametric one, which makes no assumptions regarding the underlying distribution of the data. Therefore, there are advantages in using methods based on the Poisson distribution or extensions of that method, which incorporate specific features that provide a modelling framework for count data. One challenge with count data is overdispersion, but methods are available that can account for this through the introduction of random effect terms in the modelling, and it is this modelling framework that leads to the negative binomial distribution. These models can also provide clinicians with a clearer and more appropriate interpretation of treatment effects in terms of rate ratios. In this paper, the previously used parametric and non‐parametric approaches are contrasted with those based on Poisson regression and various extensions in trials evaluating solifenacin and mirabegron in patients with overactive bladder. In these applications, negative binomial models are seen to fit the data well. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We propose a semiparametric framework based on sliced inverse regression (SIR) to address the issue of variable selection in functional regression. SIR is an effective method for dimension reduction which computes a linear projection of the predictors in a low-dimensional space, without loss of information on the regression. In order to deal with the high dimensionality of the predictors, we consider penalized versions of SIR: ridge and sparse. We extend the approaches of variable selection developed for multidimensional SIR to select intervals that form a partition of the definition domain of the functional predictors. Selecting entire intervals rather than separated evaluation points improves the interpretability of the estimated coefficients in the functional framework. A fully automated iterative procedure is proposed to find the critical (interpretable) intervals. The approach is proved efficient on simulated and real data. The method is implemented in the R package SISIR available on CRAN at https://cran.r-project.org/package=SISIR.

Application of quantile regression models with measurement errors in predictors is becoming increasingly popular. High leverage points in predictors can have substantial impacts on these models. Here, we propose a predictive leverage statistic for these models, assuming that the measurement errors follow a multivariate normal distribution, and derive its exact distribution. We compare its performance versus known predictive leverage statistics using simulation and a real dataset. The proposed statistic is shown to have desirable features. It is also the first predictive leverage statistic having its distribution derived in a closed form.  相似文献

The author presents a robust F-test for comparing nested linear models. It is suggested that the approach will be attractive to practitioners because it is based on the familiar F-statistic and corresponds to the common practice of reporting F-statistics after removing obvious outliers. It is calibrated in terms of a real parameter that can be directly interpreted as the willingness of the data analyst to remove observations, and the sensitivity of the F-statistic to this parameter is easily examined. The procedure is evaluated with a simulation study where a scale mixture distribution is used to generate outliers. The procedure is also applied to some data where the occurrence of an outlier is confounded with the significance of a regression term. This provides a comparison of two competing models for the data: one removing an outlier and the other including an additional regression term instead.  相似文献

Rank regression procedures have been proposed and studied for numerous research applications that do not satisfy the underlying assumptions of the more common linear regression models. This article develops confidence regions for the slope parameter of rank regression using an empirical likelihood (EL) ratio method. It has the advantage of not requiring variance estimation which is required for the normal approximation method. The EL method is also range respecting and results in asymmetric confidence intervals. Simulation studies are used to compare and evaluate normal approximation versus EL inference methods for various conditions such as different sample size or error distribution. The simulation study demonstrates our proposed EL method almost outperforms the traditional method in terms of coverage probability, lower-tail side error, and upper-tail side error. An application of stability analysis also shows the EL method results in shorter confidence intervals for real life data.  相似文献

Since the pioneering work by Koenker and Bassett [27], quantile regression models and its applications have become increasingly popular and important for research in many areas. In this paper, a random effects ordinal quantile regression model is proposed for analysis of longitudinal data with ordinal outcome of interest. An efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm was derived for fitting the model to the data based on a location-scale mixture representation of the skewed double-exponential distribution. The proposed approach is illustrated using simulated data and a real data example. This is the first work to discuss quantile regression for analysis of longitudinal data with ordinal outcome.  相似文献

The authors describe a method for fitting failure time mixture models that postulate the existence of both susceptibles and long‐term survivors when covariate data are only partially observed. Their method is based on a joint model that combines a Weibull regression model for the susceptibles, a logistic regression model for the probability of being a susceptible, and a general location model for the distribution of the covariates. A Bayesian approach is taken, and Gibbs sampling is used to fit the model to the incomplete data. An application to clinical data on tonsil cancer and a small Monte Carlo study indicate potential large gains in efficiency over standard complete‐case analysis as well as reasonable performance in a variety of situations.  相似文献

Usually in latent class (LC) analysis, external predictors are taken to be cluster conditional probability predictors (LC models with external predictors), and/or score conditional probability predictors (LC regression models). In such cases, their distribution is not of interest. Class-specific distribution is of interest in the distal outcome model, when the distribution of the external variables is assumed to depend on LC membership. In this paper, we consider a more general formulation, that embeds both the LC regression and the distal outcome models, as is typically done in cluster-weighted modelling. This allows us to investigate (1) whether the distribution of the external variables differs across classes, (2) whether there are significant direct effects of the external variables on the indicators, by modelling jointly the relationship between the external and the latent variables. We show the advantages of the proposed modelling approach through a set of artificial examples, an extensive simulation study and an empirical application about psychological contracts among employees and employers in Belgium and the Netherlands.  相似文献

In this article, a robust multistage parameter estimator is proposed for nonlinear regression with heteroscedastic variance, where the residual variances are considered as a general parametric function of predictors. The motivation is based on considering the chi-square distribution for the calculated sample variance of the data. It is shown that outliers that are influential in nonlinear regression parameter estimates are not necessarily influential in calculating the sample variance. This matter persuades us, not only to robustify the estimate of the parameters of the models for both the regression function and the variance, but also to replace the sample variance of the data by a robust scale estimate.  相似文献

Variable selection is an important task in regression analysis. Performance of the statistical model highly depends on the determination of the subset of predictors. There are several methods to select most relevant variables to construct a good model. However in practice, the dependent variable may have positive continuous values and not normally distributed. In such situations, gamma distribution is more suitable than normal for building a regression model. This paper introduces an heuristic approach to perform variable selection using artificial bee colony optimization for gamma regression models. We evaluated the proposed method against with classical selection methods such as backward and stepwise. Both simulation studies and real data set examples proved the accuracy of our selection procedure.  相似文献

Sliced Inverse Regression (SIR; 1991) is a dimension reduction method for reducing the dimension of the predictors without losing regression information. The implementation of SIR requires inverting the covariance matrix of the predictors—which has hindered its use to analyze high-dimensional data where the number of predictors exceed the sample size. We propose random sliced inverse regression (rSIR) by applying SIR to many bootstrap samples, each using a subset of randomly selected candidate predictors. The final rSIR estimate is obtained by aggregating these estimates. A simple variable selection procedure is also proposed using these bootstrap estimates. The performance of the proposed estimates is studied via extensive simulation. Application to a dataset concerning myocardial perfusion diagnosis from cardiac Single Proton Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) images is presented.  相似文献

In recent years, there has been an increased interest in combining probability and nonprobability samples. Nonprobability sample are cheaper and quicker to conduct but the resulting estimators are vulnerable to bias as the participation probabilities are unknown. To adjust for the potential bias, estimation procedures based on parametric or nonparametric models have been discussed in the literature. However, the validity of the resulting estimators relies heavily on the validity of the underlying models. Also, nonparametric approaches may suffer from the curse of dimensionality and poor efficiency. We propose a data integration approach by combining multiple outcome regression models and propensity score models. The proposed approach can be used for estimating general parameters including totals, means, distribution functions, and percentiles. The resulting estimators are multiply robust in the sense that they remain consistent if all but one model are misspecified. The asymptotic properties of point and variance estimators are established. The results from a simulation study show the benefits of the proposed method in terms of bias and efficiency. Finally, we apply the proposed method using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and data from the National Health Insurance Sharing Services.  相似文献

Composite quantile regression models have been shown to be effective techniques in improving the prediction accuracy [H. Zou and M. Yuan, Composite quantile regression and the oracle model selection theory, Ann. Statist. 36 (2008), pp. 1108–1126; J. Bradic, J. Fan, and W. Wang, Penalized composite quasi-likelihood for ultrahighdimensional variable selection, J. R. Stat. Soc. Ser. B 73 (2011), pp. 325–349; Z. Zhao and Z. Xiao, Efficient regressions via optimally combining quantile information, Econometric Theory 30(06) (2014), pp. 1272–1314]. This paper studies composite Tobit quantile regression (TQReg) from a Bayesian perspective. A simple and efficient MCMC-based computation method is derived for posterior inference using a mixture of an exponential and a scaled normal distribution of the skewed Laplace distribution. The approach is illustrated via simulation studies and a real data set. Results show that combine information across different quantiles can provide a useful method in efficient statistical estimation. This is the first work to discuss composite TQReg from a Bayesian perspective.  相似文献

In the area of sufficient dimension reduction, two structural conditions are often assumed: the linearity condition that is close to assuming ellipticity of underlying distribution of predictors, and the constant variance condition that nears multivariate normality assumption of predictors. Imposing these conditions are considered as necessary trade-off for overcoming the “curse of dimensionality”. However, it is very hard to check whether these conditions hold or not. When these conditions are violated, some methods such as marginal transformation and re-weighting are suggested so that data fulfill them approximately. In this article, we assume an independence condition between the projected predictors and their orthogonal complements which can ensure the commonly used inverse regression methods to identify the central subspace of interest. The independence condition can be checked by the gridded chi-square test. Thus, we extend the scope of many inverse regression methods and broaden their applicability in the literature. Simulation studies and an application to the car price data are presented for illustration.  相似文献

We will pursue a Bayesian nonparametric approach in the hierarchical mixture modelling of lifetime data in two situations: density estimation, when the distribution is a mixture of parametric densities with a nonparametric mixing measure, and accelerated failure time (AFT) regression modelling, when the same type of mixture is used for the distribution of the error term. The Dirichlet process is a popular choice for the mixing measure, yielding a Dirichlet process mixture model for the error; as an alternative, we also allow the mixing measure to be equal to a normalized inverse-Gaussian prior, built from normalized inverse-Gaussian finite dimensional distributions, as recently proposed in the literature. Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques will be used to estimate the predictive distribution of the survival time, along with the posterior distribution of the regression parameters. A comparison between the two models will be carried out on the grounds of their predictive power and their ability to identify the number of components in a given mixture density.  相似文献
