The Poisson distribution is a simple and popular model for count-data random variables, but it suffers from the equidispersion requirement, which is often not met in practice. While models for overdispersed counts have been discussed intensively in the literature, the opposite phenomenon, underdispersion, has received only little attention, especially in a time series context. We start with a detailed survey of distribution models allowing for underdispersion, discuss their properties and highlight possible disadvantages. After having identified two model families with attractive properties as well as only two model parameters, we combine these models with the INAR(1) model (integer-valued autoregressive), which is particularly well suited to obtain auotocorrelated counts with underdispersion. Properties of the resulting stationary INAR(1) models and approaches for parameter estimation are considered, as well as possible extensions to higher order autoregressions. Three real-data examples illustrate the application of the models in practice.  相似文献

Applied work routinely relies on heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation consistent (HAC) standard errors when conducting inference in a time series setting. As is well known, however, these corrections perform poorly in small samples under pronounced autocorrelations. In this article, I first provide a review of popular methods to clarify the reasons for this failure. I then derive inference that remains valid under a specific form of strong dependence. In particular, I assume that the long-run properties can be approximated by a stationary Gaussian AR(1) model, with coefficient arbitrarily close to one. In this setting, I derive tests that come close to maximizing a weighted average power criterion. Small sample simulations show these tests to perform well, also in a regression context.  相似文献

There are so many proposals in construction skewed distributions, and it is worth finding an overall class which covers all of these proposals. We introduce a new unified representation of multivariate skewed distributions. We will show that this new unified multivariate form of skewed distributions includes all of the continuous multivariate skewed distributions in the literature. This new unified representation is based on the multivariate probability integral transformation and can be decomposed into one factor that is original multivariate symmetric probability density function (pdf) f on ? k and skewed factor defined by a pdf p on [0, 1] k . This decomposition leads us to prove some useful properties of this new unified form. Stochastic representations and basic properties of this new form are also investigated in this article. Our work is motivated by considering the different skewing mechanisms which lead to different skewed distributions and show that all of these common-used distributions can be viewed as a new unified form.  相似文献

Two general multivariate stationary Markovian process with maximization structure (denoted by Max-AR(1) and MaxI-AR(1)) are developed respectively. Max-AR(1) is a subclass of MaxI-AR(1). The characterization of the Max-AR(1) and MaxI-AR(1) to be stationary is studied. Some properties of the two maximization processes are derived. Two more related general multivariate stochastic Markovian process with minification structure are analogously constructed (denoted by Min-AR(1) and MinI-AR(1)). Some well known maximization and minification processes are special cases of these four extermal Markovian processes. Two of them are simulated and some point estimations are provided as an illustration of the wide application of these four processes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We propose a new generalized geometric distribution which permits inflation/deflation of the zero count probability and study some of its properties. We also present an actuarial application of this distribution and fit it to three datasets used by other researchers. It is observed that the proposed distribution fits reasonably well to these data. Further, in a regression setup, the performance of this distribution is studied vis–a–vis other competing distributions used for explaining variability in a response variable.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the family of skew generalized t (SGT) distributions originally introduced by Theodossiou [P. Theodossiou, Financial data and the skewed generalized t distribution, Manage. Sci. Part 1 44 (12) ( 1998), pp. 1650–1661] as a skew extension of the generalized t (GT) distribution. The SGT distribution family warrants special attention, because it encompasses distributions having both heavy tails and skewness, and many of the widely used distributions such as Student's t, normal, Hansen's skew t, exponential power, and skew exponential power (SEP) distributions are included as limiting or special cases in the SGT family. We show that the SGT distribution can be obtained as the scale mixture of the SEP and generalized gamma distributions. We investigate several properties of the SGT distribution and consider the maximum likelihood estimation of the location, scale, and skewness parameters under the assumption that the shape parameters are known. We show that if the shape parameters are estimated along with the location, scale, and skewness parameters, the influence function for the maximum likelihood estimators becomes unbounded. We obtain the necessary conditions to ensure the uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimators for the location, scale, and skewness parameters, with known shape parameters. We provide a simple iterative re-weighting algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimates for the location, scale, and skewness parameters and show that this simple algorithm can be identified as an EM-type algorithm. We finally present two applications of the SGT distributions in robust estimation.  相似文献

Record values are closely connected with the occurrence times of a corresponding non-homogeneous Poisson process and in reliability theory, they are used in shock models. In this paper, first, some distribution properties of current records are presented. It is then shown that the hazard (reversed hazard) function of the upper (lower) current records can be expressed in terms of the hazard (reversed hazard) function of the parent distribution. Some reliability relationships between the original variable X and the corresponding current records and with record ranges are established. Also, preservation of some uncertainty measure based on current records is discussed.  相似文献

In this work, we generalize the Birnbaum–Saunders distribution using the generalized t distribution alternatively to the normal distribution. The newly defined family is positively skewed and contains distributions with different kurtosis and skewness. We study its properties and special cases and demonstrate its use on some real data sets considering the maximum-likelihood estimation procedure.  相似文献

In this study, some methods suggested for binary repeated measures, namely, Weighted Least Squares (WLS), Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE), and Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) are compared with respect to power, type 1 error, and properties of estimates. The results indicate that with adequate sample size, no missing data, the only covariate being time effect, and a relatively limited number of time points, the WLS method performs well. The GEE approach performs well only for large sample sizes. The GLMM method is satisfactory with respect to type I error, but its estimates have poorer properties than the other methods.  相似文献

Two multivariate stationary processes with general multivariate Weibull marginals are developed and studied. The joint distribution of the two adjacent events in the processes and the distributions of the finite sample minima as well as the geometric minima are derived. The characterization properties of these two processes are also proved.  相似文献

This paper concerns the characterization of a new family of multivariate beta distribution functions - the hyper-Dirichlet type 1 distribution. This family describes the joint density function of the terminal variates of an arbitrary tree constructed from finite sequences of probability vectors having independent Dirichlet type 1 distributions. Expressions for the general properties of the hyper-Dirichlet type 1 distribution are presented. In addition, the hyper-Liouville distribution is described and its properties are discussed as well as a generalization of the Liouville integral identity.  相似文献

Janardan (1973) introduced the generalized Polya-Eggenberger distribution as a limiting form of the generalized Markov-Polya distribution (GMPD), Ja¬nardan (1998) derived GPED formally by means of Lagrange's expansion and discussed its various properties systematically. Here, a new urn model is pro¬vided for the GPED. Moment estimators of the parameters are given in closed form. Maximum hkelihood estimators are also given. Some apphcations are provided.  相似文献

In this article, we consider shared frailty model with inverse Gaussian distribution as frailty distribution and log-logistic distribution (LLD) as baseline distribution for bivariate survival times. We fit this model to three real-life bivariate survival data sets. The problem of analyzing and estimating parameters of shared inverse Gaussian frailty is the interest of this article and then compare the results with shared gamma frailty model under the same baseline for considered three data sets. Data are analyzed using Bayesian approach to the analysis of clustered survival data in which there is a dependence of failure time observations within the same group. The variance component estimation provides the estimated dispersion of the random effects. We carried out a test for frailty (or heterogeneity) using Bayes factor. Model comparison is made using information criteria and Bayes factor. We observed that the shared inverse Gaussian frailty model with LLD as baseline is the better fit for all three bivariate data sets.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce the slashed power-Lindley distribution. This model can be seen as an extension of the power-Lindley distribution with more flexibility in terms of the kurtosis of distribution. It arises as the ratio of two independent random variables, the one being a power-Lindley distribution and a power of the uniform distribution. We present properties and carry out estimates of the model parameters by the maximum likelihood method. Finally, we conduct a small simulation study to evaluate the performance of maximum likelihood estimators and we analyze a real data set to illustrate the usefulness of the new model.  相似文献

In this article, we use the wavelet technique to improve the over-rejection problem of the traditional Dickey–Fuller tests for unit root when the data is associated with volatility like the GARCH(1, 1) effect. The logic of this technique is based on the idea that the wavelet spectrum decomposition can separate out information of different frequencies in the data series. We prove that the asymptotic distribution of the test in the wavelet environment is still the same as the traditional Dickey–Fuller type of tests. The finite sample property is improved when the data suffers from GARCH error. The investigation of the size property and the finite sample distribution of the test is carried out by Monte Carlo experiment. An empirical example with data on the net immigration to Sweden during the period 1950–2000 is used to illustrate the performance of the wavelet improved test under GARCH errors. The results reveal that using the traditional Dickey–Fuller type of tests, the unit root hypothesis is rejected while our wavelet improved test do not reject as it is more robust to GARCH errors in finite samples.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the effects of correlation among observations on the accuracy of approximating the distribution of sample mean by its asymptotic distribution. The accuracy is investigated by the Berry-Esseen bound (BEB), which gives an upper bound on the error of approximation of the distribution function of the sample mean from its asymptotic distribution for independent observations. For a given sample size (n0) the BEB is obtained when the observations are independent. Let this be BEB. We then find the sample size (n*) required to have BEB below BEB0, when the observations are dependent. Comparison of n* with n0 reveals the effects of correlation among observations on the accuracy of the asymptotic distribution as an approximation. It is shown that the effects of correlation among observations are not appreciable if the correlation is moderate to small but it can be severe for extreme correlations.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new distribution generated by gamma random variables. We show that this distribution includes as a special case the distribution of the lower record value from a sequence of i.i.d. random variables from a population with the exponentiated (generalized) exponential distribution. The properties of this distribution are derived and the estimation of the model parameters is discussed. Some applications to real data sets are finally presented for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper, distributions of items sampled inversely in clusters are derived. In particular, negative binomial type of distributions are obtained and their properties are studied. A logarithmic series type of distribution is also defined as a limiting form of the obtained generalized negative binomial distribution.  相似文献

The inverted generalized exponential distribution is defined as an alternative model for lifetime data. The existence of moments of this distribution is shown to hold under some restrictions. However, all the moments exist for the truncated inverted generalized exponential distribution and closed-form expressions for them are derived in this article. The distributional properties of this truncated distribution are studied. Maximum likelihood estimation method is discussed for the estimation of the parameters of the distribution both theoretically and empirically. In order to see the modeling performance of the distribution, two real datasets are analyzed.  相似文献
