AbstractFor a general censoring scheme called “middle censoring” scheme which was proposed by Jammalamadaka and Mangalam (2003) in nonparametric set up. In this article, point and interval estimation problems are considered for the exponential distribution when the failure data is middle censored with two independent competing failure risks. Different methods are introduced to estimate the unknown model parameters such as maximum likelihood estimation, midpoint approximation, equivalent quantities estimation. The Bayesian estimation is also considered with gamma priors. Two numerical examples are analyzed to show the performance of the proposed methods. 相似文献

Two-period crossover design is one of the commonly used designs in clinical trials. But, the estimation of treatment effect is complicated by the possible presence of carryover effect. It is known that ignoring the carryover effect when it exists can lead to poor estimates of the treatment effect. The classical approach by Grizzle (1965) consists of two stages. First, a preliminary test is conducted on carryover effect. If the carryover effect is significant, analysis is based only on data from period one; otherwise, analysis is based on data from both periods. A Bayesian approach with improper priors was proposed by Grieve (1985) which uses a mixture of two models: a model with carryover effect and another without. The indeterminacy of the Bayes factor due to the arbitrary constant in the improper prior was addressed by assigning a minimally discriminatory value to the constant. In this article, we present an objective Bayesian estimation approach to the two-period crossover design which is also based on a mixture model, but using the commonly recommended Zellner–Siow g-prior. We provide simulation studies and a real data example and compare the numerical results with Grizzle (1965)’s and Grieve (1985)’s approaches. 相似文献

In this article, we establish the complete moment convergence of a moving-average process generated by a class of random variables satisfying the Rosenthal-type maximal inequality and the week mean dominating condition. On the one hand, we give the correct proof for the case p = 1 in Ko (2015); on the other hand, we also consider the case αp = 1 which was not considered in Ko (2015). The results obtained in this article generalize some corresponding ones for some dependent sequences. 相似文献

This paper aimed at providing an efficient new unbiased estimator for estimating the proportion of a potentially sensitive attribute in survey sampling. The suggested randomization device makes use of the means, variances of scrambling variables, and the two scalars lie between “zero” and “one.” Thus, the same amount of information has been used at the estimation stage. The variance formula of the suggested estimator has been obtained. We have compared the proposed unbiased estimator with that of Kuk (1990) and Franklin (1989), and Singh and Chen (2009) estimators. Relevant conditions are obtained in which the proposed estimator is more efficient than Kuk (1990) and Franklin (1989) and Singh and Chen (2009) estimators. The optimum estimator (OE) in the proposed class of estimators has been identified which finally depends on moments ratios of the scrambling variables. The variance of the optimum estimator has been obtained and compared with that of the Kuk (1990) and Franklin (1989) estimator and Singh and Chen (2009) estimator. It is interesting to mention that the “optimum estimator” of the class of estimators due to Singh and Chen (2009) depends on the parameter π under investigation which limits the use of Singh and Chen (2009) OE in practice while the proposed OE in this paper is free from such a constraint. The proposed OE depends only on the moments ratios of scrambling variables. This is an advantage over the Singh and Chen (2009) estimator. Numerical illustrations are given in the support of the present study when the scrambling variables follow normal distribution. Theoretical and empirical results are very sound and quite illuminating in the favor of the present study. 相似文献

This article proposes new symmetric and asymmetric distributions applying methods analogous as the ones in Kim (2005) and Arnold et al. (2009) to the exponentiated normal distribution studied in Durrans (1992), that we call the power-normal (PN) distribution. The proposed bimodal extension, the main focus of the paper, is called the bimodal power-normal model and is denoted by BPN(α) model, where α is the asymmetry parameter. The authors give some properties including moments and maximum likelihood estimation. Two important features of the model proposed is that its normalizing constant has closed and simple form and that the Fisher information matrix is nonsingular, guaranteeing large sample properties of the maximum likelihood estimators. Finally, simulation studies and real applications reveal that the proposed model can perform well in both situations. 相似文献

In this article, we discuss the method of linear kernel quantile estimator proposed by Parzen (1979). We establish a Bahadur representation in sense of almost surely convergence with the rate log? αn under the case of S-mixing random variable sequence which was proposed by Berkes (2009). We also obtain the strong consistence of this estimator and its convergence rate. 相似文献

Double outward box distributed residuals are another type of non monotonic heteroscedasticity that severely violates homoscedasticity assumption. In this study Çelik's (2015) WCEV is applied to double outward box distributed residuals to provide homoscedasticity for simple and multiple regression models. 相似文献

‘Middle censoring’ is a very general censoring scheme where the actual value of an observation in the data becomes unobservable if it falls inside a random interval (L, R) and includes both left and right censoring. In this paper, we consider discrete lifetime data that follow a geometric distribution that is subject to middle censoring. Two major innovations in this paper, compared to the earlier work of Davarzani and Parsian [3], include (i) an extension and generalization to the case where covariates are present along with the data and (ii) an alternate approach and proofs which exploit the simple relationship between the geometric and the exponential distributions, so that the theory is more in line with the work of Iyer et al. [6]. It is also demonstrated that this kind of discretization of life times gives results that are close to the original data involving exponential life times. Maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters is studied for this middle-censoring scheme with covariates and their large sample distributions discussed. Simulation results indicate how well the proposed estimation methods work and an illustrative example using time-to-pregnancy data from Baird and Wilcox [1] is included. 相似文献

This paper treats the problem of stochastic comparisons for the extreme order statistics arising from heterogeneous beta distributions. Some sufficient conditions involved in majorization-type partial orders are provided for comparing the extreme order statistics in the sense of various magnitude orderings including the likelihood ratio order, the reversed hazard rate order, the usual stochastic order, and the usual multivariate stochastic order. The results established here strengthen and extend those including Kochar and Xu (2007), Mao and Hu (2010), Balakrishnan et al. (2014), and Torrado (2015). A real application in system assembly and some numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the theoretical results. 相似文献

In this article, we use cumulative residual Kullback-Leibler information (CRKL) and cumulative Kullback-Leibler information (CKL) to construct two goodness-of-fit test statistics for testing exponentiality with progressively Type-II censored data. The power of the proposed tests are compared with the power of goodness-of-fit test for exponentiality introduced by Balakrishnan et al. (2007). We show that when the hazard function of the alternative is monotone decreasing, the test based on CRKL has higher power and when the hazard function of the alternative is non-monotone, the test based on CKL has higher power. But, when it is monotone increasing the power difference between test based on CKL and their proposed test is not so remarkable. The use of the proposed tests is shown in an illustrative example. 相似文献

Adaptive designs find an important application in the estimation of unknown percentiles for an underlying dose-response curve. A nonparametric adaptive design was suggested by Mugno et al. (2004) to simultaneously estimate multiple percentiles of an unknown dose-response curve via generalized Polya urns. In this article, we examine the properties of the design proposed by Mugno et al. (2004) when delays in observing responses are encountered. Using simulations, we evaluate a modification of the design under varying group sizes. Our results demonstrate unbiased estimation with minimal loss in efficiency when compared to the original compound urn design. 相似文献

Baker (2008) introduced a new method for constructing multivariate distributions with given marginals based on order statistics. In this paper, we provide a test of independence for a pair of absolutely continuous random variables (X, Y) jointly distributed according to Baker’s bivariate distributions. Our purpose is to test the hypothesis that X and Y are independent versus the alternative that X and Y are positively (negatively) quadrant dependent. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test statistic is investigated. Also, the powers of the proposed test and the class of distribution-free tests proposed by Kochar and Gupta (1987) are compared empirically via a simulation study. 相似文献

In this article, we study the complete convergence for sequences of coordinatewise asymptotically negatively associated random vectors in Hilbert spaces. We also investigate that some related results for coordinatewise negatively associated random vectors in Huan, Quang, and Thuan (2014) still hold under this concept. 相似文献

Due to Godambe (1985), one can obtain the Godambe optimum estimating functions (EFs) each of which is optimum (in the sense of maximizing the Godambe information) within a linear class of EFs. Quasi-likelihood scores can be viewed as special cases of the Godambe optimum EFs (see, for instance, Hwang and Basawa, 2011). The paper concerns conditionally heteroscedastic time series with unknown likelihood. Power transformations are introduced in innovations to construct a class of Godambe optimum EFs. A “best” power transformation for Godambe innovation is then obtained via maximizing the “profile” Godambe information. To illustrate, the KOrea Stock Prices Index is analyzed for which absolute value transformation and square transformation are recommended according to the ARCH(1) and GARCH(1,1) models, respectively. 相似文献

In this paper, the focus is on sequential analysis of multivariate financial time series with heavy tails. The mean vector and the covariance matrix of multivariate non linear models are simultaneously monitored by modifying conventional control charts to identify structural changes in the data. The considered target process is a constant conditional correlation model (cf. Bollerslev, 1990), an extended constant conditional correlation model (cf. He and Teräsvirta, 2004), a dynamic conditional correlation model (cf. Engle, 2002), or a generalized dynamic conditional correlation model (cf. Capiello et al., 2006). For statistical surveillance we use control charts based on residuals. Further, the procedures are constructed for t-distribution. The detection speed of these charts is compared via Monte Carlo simulation. In the empirical study, the procedure with the best performance is applied to log-returns of the stock market indices FTSE and CAC. 相似文献

Frailty models are used in the survival analysis to account for the unobserved heterogeneity in individual risks to disease and death. To analyze the bivariate data on related survival times (e.g., matched pairs experiments, twin, or family data), the shared frailty models were suggested. These models are based on the assumption that frailty acts multiplicatively to hazard rate. In this article, we assume that frailty acts additively to hazard rate. We introduce the shared inverse Gaussian frailty models with three different baseline distributions, namely the generalized log-logistic, the generalized Weibull, and exponential power distribution. We introduce the Bayesian estimation procedure using Markov chain Monte Carlo technique to estimate the parameters involved in these models. We apply these models to a real-life bivariate survival dataset of McGilchrist and Aisbett (1991) related to the kidney infection data, and a better model is suggested for the data. 相似文献

The construction of some wider families of continuous distributions obtained recently has attracted applied statisticians due to the analytical facilities available for easy computation of special functions in programming software. We study some general mathematical properties of the log-gamma-generated (LGG) family defined by Amini, MirMostafaee, and Ahmadi (2014). It generalizes the gamma-generated class pioneered by Risti? and Balakrishnan (2012). We present some of its special models and derive explicit expressions for the ordinary and incomplete moments, generating and quantile functions, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, Shannon entropy, Rényi entropy, reliability, and order statistics. Models in this family are compared with nested and non nested models. Further, we propose and study a new LGG family regression model. We demonstrate that the new regression model can be applied to censored data since it represents a parametric family of models and therefore can be used more effectively in the analysis of survival data. We prove that the proposed models can provide consistently better fits in some applications to real data sets. 相似文献

The complication in analyzing tumor data is that the tumors detected in a screening program tend to be slowly progressive tumors, which is the so-called left-truncated sampling that is inherent in screening studies. Under the assumption that all subjects have the same tumor growth function, Ghosh (2008) developed estimation procedures for the Cox proportional hazards model. Shen (2011a) demonstrated that Ghosh (2008)'s approach can be extended to the case when each subject has a specific growth function. In this article, under linear transformation model, we present a general framework to the analysis of data from cancer screening studies. We developed estimation procedures under linear transformation model, which includes Cox's model as a special case. A simulation study is conducted to demonstrate the potential usefulness of the proposed estimators. 相似文献

In this article, we derive a new generalized geometric distribution through a weight function, which can also be viewed as a discrete analog of weighted exponential distribution introduced by Gupta and Kundu (2009). We derive some distributional properties like moments, generating functions, hazard function, and infinite divisibility followed by different estimation methods to estimate the parameters. New characterizations of the geometric distribution are presented using the proposed generalized geometric distribution. The superiority of the proposed distribution to other competing models is demonstrated with the help of two real count datasets. 相似文献

In this article, assuming that the error terms follow a multivariate t distribution,we derive the exact formulae forthe moments of the heterogeneous preliminary test (HPT) estimator proposed by Xu (2012b). We also execute the numerical evaluation to investigate the mean squared error (MSE) performance of the HPT estimator and compare it with those of the feasible ridge regression (FRR) estimator and the usual ordinary least squared (OLS) estimator. Further, we derive the optimal critical values of the preliminary F test for the HPT estimator, using the minimax regret function proposed by Sawa and Hiromatsu (1973). Our results show that (1) the optimal significance level (α*) increases as the degrees of freedom of multivariate t distribution (ν0) increases; (2) when ν0 ? 10, the value of α* is close to that in the normal error case. 相似文献
