In the past few years, the Lindley distribution has gained popularity for modeling lifetime data as an alternative to the exponential distribution. This paper provides two new characterizations of the Lindley distribution. The first characterization is based on a relation between left truncated moments and failure rate function. The second characterization is based on a relation between right truncated moments and reversed failure rate function.  相似文献

Topp-Leone distribution is a continuous unimodal distribution with bounded support (recently rediscovered) which is useful for modelling life-time phenomena. In this paper we study some reliability measures of this distribution such as the hazard rate, mean residual life, reversed hazard rate, expected inactivity time, and their stochastic orderings.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider sufficient conditions for the stationary distribution of generalized Ait-Sahalia-type interest rate model. We show that if r ? 2ρ ? 1, then the generalized Ait-Sahalia interest rate model has a unique stationary distribution and if r < 2ρ ? 1, then the generalized Ait-Sahalia interest rate model is recurrent relative to the domain (0, ?), for any ? > 0. Besides, some recursion formulas for the stationary distribution are presented. Finally, some numerical simulations are used to illustrate our results.  相似文献

In this paper we compare the hazard rate functions of two parallel systems, each of which consists of two independent components with exponential distribution functions. The paper gives various conditions under which there exists a hazard rate ordering between the two parallel systems. It is also shown that some of these conditions are both sufficient and necessary. In particular, it is proven that if the vector consisting of the two hazard rates of the two exponential components in one parallel system weakly supmajorizes the counterpart of the other parallel system, then the first parallel system is greater than the second parallel system in the hazard rate ordering. This paper further compares the hazard rate functions of two parallel systems when both systems have components following a certain bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

The exponential and Rayleigh are the two most commonly used distributions for analyzing lifetime data. These distributions have several desirable properties and nice physical interpretations. Unfortunately, the exponential distribution only has constant failure rate and the Rayleigh distribution has increasing failure rate. The linear failure rate distribution generalizes both these distributions which may have non increasing hazard function also. This article introduces a new distribution, which generalizes linear failure rate distribution. This distribution generalizes the well-known (1) exponential distribution, (2) linear failure rate distribution, (3) generalized exponential distribution, and (4) generalized Rayleigh distribution. The properties of this distribution are discussed in this article. The maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters are obtained. A real data set is analyzed and it is observed that the present distribution can provide a better fit than some other very well-known distributions.  相似文献

The failure rate of a life time distribution has so for been studied in the time domsin. The present paper extends the failure rate transform in the frequency domain. For this purpose, the parent life time distribution has been taken as the Weibull distribution and different properties of the distribution of the failure rate transform have been presented including some characterisations of the Weibull distribution. Some comparative studies have also been made between the parent distribution and the failure rate transform distribution in respect of convex, star shaped and super additive orderings and expectation.  相似文献

We introduce a new class of flexible hazard rate distributions which have constant, increasing, decreasing, and bathtub-shaped hazard function. This class of distributions obtained by compounding the power and exponential hazard rate functions, which is called the power-exponential hazard rate distribution and contains several important lifetime distributions. We obtain some distributional properties of the new family of distributions. The estimation of parameters is obtained by using the maximum likelihood and the Bayesian methods under squared error, linear-exponential, and Stein’s loss functions. Also, approximate confidence intervals and HPD credible intervals of parameters are presented. An application to real dataset is provided to show that the new hazard rate distribution has a better fit than the other existing hazard rate distributions and some four-parameter distributions. Finally , to compare the performance of proposed estimators and confidence intervals, an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted.

In this note we provide a characterization of the exponential distribution by means of the coincidence of location and truncated densities. We provide two proofs. The first is obtained directly via simple calculus while the second hinges on the characterization of the exponential distribution by its constant hazard rate.  相似文献

In the present article we study several characteristics of the families of generalized beta- and gamma- generated distributions introduced by Alexander et al. (2011) and Zografos and Balakrishnan (2009), respectively. Simple formulas are established for calculating the failure rate of the members of the aforementioned families by exploiting the failure rate of the parent distribution. In addition, the aging properties of the generalized beta- and gamma-generated distributions are explored in terms of the corresponding aging behavior of the parent family.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a generalization of the Bilal distribution, where a new two-parameter distribution is presented. We show that its failure rate function can be upside-down bathtub shaped. The failure rate can also be decreasing or increasing. A comprehensive mathematical treatment of the new distribution is provided. The estimation by maximum likelihood is discussed, and a closed-form expression for Fisher’s information matrix is obtained. Asymptotic interval estimators for both of the two unknown parameters are also given. A simulation study is conducted and applications to real data sets are presented.  相似文献

This article considers the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (NPMLE) of a joint distribution function when the multivariate failure times of interest are interval-censored. With different types of interval censoring mechanism, the NPMLE's of the multivariate distribution function are studied and the strong consistency for the NPMLEs is obtained in terms of a self-consistency equation. Furthermore, the convergence rate of the estimator is given, which depends on the types of interval censoring mechanism.  相似文献

In this article, we study the hazard rate ordering of lifetimes of two-component systems (series and parallel) by considering some bivariate distributions for the joint distribution of component lifetimes. Such that, we aim to investigate the lifetimes of systems with stochastically dependent and with stochastically independent components, the lifetimes of the components, and a stochastic ordering relation between these lifetimes. In addition to these, the mononotonicity of the hazard rates of the parallel and the series systems for the bivariate Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern (FGM) family is studied.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new class of distribution which is based on the concept of exponentiated generalization with some modification so as to provide a better result in terms of flexibility. Our proposed distribution accommodates various shapes of hazard rate including the bathtub. Exponential distribution has been taken as the baseline distribution. Various statistical properties of the proposed distribution have been studied. We have used the method of maximum likelihood for estimation of the parameters of the proposed model. Last, we have analyzed four real datasets to illustrate the flexibility of the model in comparison to eight existing well-known distributions.  相似文献

In this article, a transmuted linear exponential distribution is developed that generalizes the linear exponential distribution with an additional parameter using the quadratic rank transmutation map which was studied by Shaw et al. Some statistical properties of the proposed distribution such as moments, quantiles, and the failure rate function are investigated. The maximum likelihood estimators of unknown parameters are also discussed and a real data analysis is carried out to illustrate the superiority of the proposed distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Hazard rate functions are often used in modeling of lifetime data. The Exponential Power Series (EPS) family has a monotone hazard rate function. In this article, the influence of input factors such as time and parameters on the variability of hazard rate function is assessed by local and global sensitivity analysis. Two different indices based on local and global sensitivity indices are presented. The simulation results for two datasets show that the hazard rate functions of the EPS family are sensitive to input parameters. The results also show that the hazard rate function of the EPS family is more sensitive to the exponential distribution than power series distributions.  相似文献

We consider likelihood based inference for the parameter of a skew-normal distribution. One of the problems shown by this model is the singularity of the Fisher information matrix when skewness is absent. We derive the rate of convergence to the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator and study an alternative parameterization which overcomes problems related to the singularity of the information matrix.  相似文献

In this study, a new extension of generalized half-normal (GHN) distribution is introduced. Since this new distribution can be viewed as weighted version of GHN distribution, it is called as weighted generalized half-normal (WGHN) distribution. It is shown that WGHN distribution can be observed as a single constrained and hidden truncation model. Therefore, the new distribution is more flexible than the GHN distribution. Some statistical properties of the WGHN distribution are studied, i.e. moments, cumulative distribution function, hazard rate function are derived. Furthermore, maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters is considered. Some real-life data sets taken from the literature are modelled using the WGHN distribution. It is seen that for these data sets the WGHN distribution provides better fitting than the GHN and slashed generalized half-normal (SGHN) distributions.  相似文献

We consider the right truncated exponential distribution where the truncation point is unknown and show that the ML equation has a unique solution over an extended parameter space. In the case of the estimation of the truncation point T we show that the asymptotic distribution of the MLE is not centered at T. A modified MLE is introduced which outperforms all other considered estimators including the minimum variance unbiased estimator. Asymptotic as well as small sample properties of different estimators are investigated and compared. The truncated exponential distribution has an increasing failure rate, ideally suited for use as a survival distribution for biological and industrial data.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new three-parameter exponential-type distribution. The new distribution is quite flexible and can be used effectively in modeling survival data and reliability problems. It can have constant, decreasing, increasing, upside-down bathtub and bathtub-shaped hazard rate functions. It also generalizes some well-known distributions. We discuss maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters for complete sample and for censored sample. Additionally, we formulate a new cure rate survival model by assuming that the number of competing causes of the event of interest has the Poisson distribution and the time to this event follows the proposed distribution. Maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters of the new cure rate survival model is discussed for complete sample and censored sample. Two applications to real data are provided to illustrate the flexibility of the new model in practice.  相似文献
