Various types of failure, censored and accelerated life tests, are commonly employed for life testing in some manufacturing industries and products that are highly reliable. In this article, we consider the tampered failure rate model as one of such types that relate the distribution under use condition to the distribution under accelerated condition. It is assumed that the lifetimes of products under use condition have generalized Pareto distribution as a lifetime model. Some estimation methods such as graphical, moments, probability weighted moments, and maximum likelihood estimation methods for the parameters are discussed based on progressively type-I censored data. The determination of optimal stress change time is discussed under two different criteria of optimality. Finally, a Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to examine the performance of the estimation methods and the optimality criteria.  相似文献

Inverse Weibull (IW) distribution is one of the widely used probability distributions for nonnegative data modelling, specifically, for describing degradation phenomena of mechanical components. In this paper, by compounding IW and power series distributions we introduce a new lifetime distribution. The compounding procedure follows the same set-up carried out by Adamidis and Loukas [A lifetime distribution with decreasing failure rate. Stat Probab Lett. 1998;39:35–42]. We provide mathematical properties of this new distribution such as moments, estimation by maximum likelihood with censored data, inference for a large sample and the EM algorithm to determine the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters. Furthermore, we characterize the proposed distributions using a simple relationship between two truncated moments and maximum entropy principle under suitable constraints. Finally, to show the flexibility of this type of distributions, we demonstrate applications of two real data sets.  相似文献

Quantile regression is increasingly used in biomarker analysis to handle nonnormal or heteroscedastic data. However, in some biomedical studies, the biomarker data can be censored by detection limits of the bioassay or missing when the subjects drop out from the study. Inappropriate handling of these two issues leads to biased estimation results. We consider the censored quantile regression approach to account for the censoring data and apply the inverse weighting technique to adjust for dropouts. In particular, we develop a weighted estimating equation for censored quantile regression, where an individual’s contribution is weighted by the inverse probability of dropout at the given occasion. We conduct simulation studies to evaluate the properties of the proposed estimators and demonstrate our method with a real data set from Genetic and Inflammatory Marker of Sepsis (GenIMS) study.  相似文献

In biostatistical applications interest often focuses on the estimation of the distribution of time between two consecutive events. If the initial event time is observed and the subsequent event time is only known to be larger or smaller than an observed point in time, then the data is described by the well-understood singly censored current status model, also known as interval censored data, case I. Jewell et al. (1994) extended this current status model by allowing the initial time to be unobserved, with its distribution over an observed interval [A, B] known; the data is referred to as doubly censored current status data. This model has applications in AIDS partner studies. If the initial time is known to be uniformly distribute d, the model reduces to a submodel of the current status model with the same asymptotic information bounds as in the current status model, but the distribution of interest is essentially the derivative of the distribution of interest in the current status model. As a consequence the non-parametric maximum likelihood estimator is inconsistent. Moreover, this submodel contains only smooth heavy tailed distributions for which no moments exist. In this paper, we discuss the connection between the singly censored current status model and the doubly censored current status model (for the uniform initial time) in detail and explain the difficulties in estimation which arise in the doubly censored case. We propose a regularized MLE corresponding with the current status model. We prove rate results, efficiency of smooth functionals of the regularized MLE, and present a generally applicable efficient method for estimation of regression parameters, which does not rely on the existence of moments. We also discuss extending these ideas to a non-uniform distribution for the initial time.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Upper and lower bounds for moments of progressively Type II censored order statistics in terms of moments of (progressively Type II censored) order statistics are derived. In particular, this yields conditions for the existence of moments of progressively Type II censored order statistics based on an absolutely continuous distribution function.  相似文献

Wu et al. [Computational comparison for weighted moments estimators and BLUE of the scale parameter of a Pareto distribution with known shape parameter under type II multiply censored sample, Appl. Math. Comput. 181 (2006), pp. 1462–1470] proposed the weighted moments estimators (WMEs) of the scale parameter of a Pareto distribution with known shape parameter on a multiply type II-censored sample. They claimed that some WMEs are better than the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) based on the exact mean-squared error (MSE). In this paper, the general WME (GWME) is proposed and the computational comparison of the proposed estimator with the WMEs and BLUE is done on the basis of the exact MSE for given sample sizes and different censoring schemes. As a result, the GWME is performing better than the best estimator among 12 WMEs and BLUE for all cases. Therefore, GWME is recommended for use. At last, one example is given to demonstrate the proposed GWME.  相似文献

In this paper, a wavelet estimator and a random weighted estimator of a probability density function are constructed under right censored data. The normal approximation rates and random weighting approximation rates of the error distribution of wavelet estimators are obtained under suitable conditions. To illustrate the application of the technique, the confidence interval of f(x) is constructed by the results in this paper, and the simulation calculation is studied by the artificially generated data and “real world” data set.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we introduce the Gompertz power series (GPS) class of distributions which is obtained by compounding Gompertz and power series distributions. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as Gompertz-geometric (GG), Gompertz-Poisson (GP), Gompertz-binomial (GB), and Gompertz-logarithmic (GL) distributions as special cases. Sub-models of the GPS distribution are studied in details. The hazard rate function of the GPS distribution can be increasing, decreasing, and bathtub-shaped. We obtain several properties of the GPS distribution such as its probability density function, and failure rate function, Shannon entropy, mean residual life function, quantiles, and moments. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure via a EM-algorithm is presented, and simulation studies are performed for evaluation of this estimation for complete data, and the MLE of parameters for censored data. At the end, a real example is given.  相似文献

A new lifetime model, which extends the Fréchet distribution called the generalized transmuted Fréchet distribution is proposed and studied. Various of its structural properties including ordinary and incomplete moments, generating function, residual and reversed residual lifes, order statistics and probability weighted moments are derived. Two characterization theorems are presented. The maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the model parameters. The flexibility of the new distribution is illustrated using a real data set. It can serve as an alternative model to other lifetime models available in the literature for modeling positive real data in many areas.  相似文献

Lifetimes of modern mechanic or electronic units usually exhibit bathtub-shaped failure rates. An appropriate probability distribution to model such data is the modified Weibull distribution proposed by Lai et al. [15]. This distribution has both the two-parameter Weibull and type-1 extreme value distribution as special cases. It is able to model lifetime data with monotonic and bathtub-shaped failure rates, and thus attracts some interest among researchers because of this property. In this paper, the procedure of obtaining the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters for progressively type-2 censored and complete samples are studied. Existence and uniqueness of the MLEs are proved.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In the context of failure time data, over the long run, dependent observations that might be censored are commonly encountered in practice. The main objective of this paper is to make inference about the common marginal distribution of the failure times. To this end, one nonparametric estimator, namely, the Nelson-Aalen estimator is modified to incorporate the dependence among the observations. The modified estimator is the weighted moving average (WMA) version of the existing estimator used for independent data. It has been shown that the new version is better in the sense of minimizing the one-step ahead forecast errors. Also, the new estimator can be used as a crude measure for checking independence among observations.  相似文献

A popular linear regression estimator for censored data is the one proposed by Buckley and James (1979). However, this estimator is not robust to outliers, which is not surprising since it is a modified version of the uncensored data least squares estimator. Lai and Ying (1994) have proposed an M-estimator for censored data that is a generalization of the Buckley- James estimator. In this paper we discuss a weighted least squares algorithm for computing these M-estimates and compare the performance of two Huber M-estimators with the Buckley-James estimator in a simulation study. We find that the Huber M-estimators perform more robustly for a broad range of censoring and error distributions.  相似文献

We consider a method of moments approach for dealing with censoring at zero for data expressed in levels when researchers would like to take logarithms. A Box–Cox transformation is employed. We explore this approach in the context of linear regression where both dependent and independent variables are censored. We contrast this method to two others, (1) dropping records of data containing censored values and (2) assuming normality for censored observations and the residuals in the model. Across the methods considered, where researchers are interested primarily in the slope parameter, estimation bias is consistently reduced using the method of moments approach.  相似文献

This paper proposes an approximation to the distribution of a goodness-of-fit statistic proposed recently by Balakrishnan et al. [Balakrishnan, N., Ng, H.K.T. and Kannan, N., 2002, A test of exponentiality based on spacings for progressively Type-II censored data. In: C. Huber-Carol et al. (Eds.), Goodness-of-Fit Tests and Model Validity (Boston: Birkhäuser), pp. 89–111.] for testing exponentiality based on progressively Type-II right censored data. The moments of this statistic can be easily calculated, but its distribution is not known in an explicit form. We first obtain the exact moments of the statistic using Basu's theorem and then the density approximants based on these exact moments of the statistic, expressed in terms of Laguerre polynomials, are proposed. A comparative study of the proposed approximation to the exact critical values, computed by Balakrishnan and Lin [Balakrishnan, N. and Lin, C.T., 2003, On the distribution of a test for exponentiality based on progressively Type-II right censored spacings. Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, 73 (4), 277–283.], is carried out. This reveals that the proposed approximation is very accurate.  相似文献

The extended three-parameter Burr XII (EBXII) distribution has recently attracted considerable attention for modeling data from various scientific fields since it yields a wide range of skewness and kurtosis values. However, it is well known that the parameter estimates have significant effects on the success of a distribution in real-life applications. In this study, modified moment estimators (MMEs) and modified probability-weighted moments estimators (MPWMEs) are used to estimate the parameters of the EBXII distribution. These two considered estimators are also compared with the commonly used maximum-likelihood, percentiles, least-squares and weighted least-squares estimators in terms of bias and efficiency via an extensive numerical simulation. The MMEs and MPWMEs are observed to perform well in varying sample cases, and the simulation results are supported with application through a real-life data set.  相似文献

Kumaraswamy [Generalized probability density-function for double-bounded random-processes, J. Hydrol. 462 (1980), pp. 79–88] introduced a distribution for double-bounded random processes with hydrological applications. For the first time, based on this distribution, we describe a new family of generalized distributions (denoted with the prefix ‘Kw’) to extend the normal, Weibull, gamma, Gumbel, inverse Gaussian distributions, among several well-known distributions. Some special distributions in the new family such as the Kw-normal, Kw-Weibull, Kw-gamma, Kw-Gumbel and Kw-inverse Gaussian distribution are discussed. We express the ordinary moments of any Kw generalized distribution as linear functions of probability weighted moments (PWMs) of the parent distribution. We also obtain the ordinary moments of order statistics as functions of PWMs of the baseline distribution. We use the method of maximum likelihood to fit the distributions in the new class and illustrate the potentiality of the new model with an application to real data.  相似文献

This article deals with the estimation of the lognormal-Pareto and the lognormal-generalized Pareto distributions, for which a general result concerning asymptotic optimality of maximum likelihood estimation cannot be proved. We develop a method based on probability weighted moments, showing that it can be applied straightforwardly to the first distribution only. In the lognormal-generalized Pareto case, we propose a mixed approach combining maximum likelihood and probability weighted moments. Extensive simulations analyze the relative efficiencies of the methods in various setups. Finally, the techniques are applied to two real datasets in the actuarial and operational risk management fields.  相似文献

Parameter estimation of the generalized Pareto distribution—Part II   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This is the second part of a paper which focuses on reviewing methods for estimating the parameters of the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD). The GPD is a very important distribution in the extreme value context. It is commonly used for modeling the observations that exceed very high thresholds. The ultimate success of the GPD in applications evidently depends on the parameter estimation process. Quite a few methods exist in the literature for estimating the GPD parameters. Estimation procedures, such as the maximum likelihood (ML), the method of moments (MOM) and the probability weighted moments (PWM) method were described in Part I of the paper. We shall continue to review methods for estimating the GPD parameters, in particular methods that are robust and procedures that use the Bayesian methodology. As in Part I, we shall focus on those that are relatively simple and straightforward to be applied to real world data.  相似文献

The Shapiro–Wilk statistic and modified statistics are widely used test statistics for normality. They are based on regression and correlation. The statistics for the complete data can be easily generalized to the censored data. In this paper, the distribution theory for the modified Shapiro–Wilk statistic is investigated when it is generalized to Type II right censored data. As a result, it is shown that the limit distribution of the statistic can be representable as the integral of a Brownian bridge. Also, the power comparison to the other procedure is performed.  相似文献

For the first time, we propose a five-parameter lifetime model called the McDonald Weibull distribution to extend the Weibull, exponentiated Weibull, beta Weibull and Kumaraswamy Weibull distributions, among several other models. We obtain explicit expressions for the ordinary moments, quantile and generating functions, mean deviations and moments of the order statistics. We use the method of maximum likelihood to fit the new distribution and determine the observed information matrix. We define the log-McDonald Weibull regression model for censored data. The potentiality of the new model is illustrated by means of two real data sets.  相似文献
