In this paper, exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts for multinomial data are developed with a three-level classification scheme. The lower and upper control limits of the proposed EWMA control chart are evaluated using Markov chain approximation. Compared with the three-level Shewhart control chart, numerical results indicate that the proposed EWMA control chart is relatively sensitive to small shifts in a three-level multinomial process. A figure and a table are provided for practitioners to select the value of chart limit coefficient that gives the desired in-control average run length.  相似文献

In some situations, an appropriate quality measure uses three or more discrete levels to classify a product characteristic. For these situations, some control charts have been developed based on statistical criteria regardless of economic considerations. In this paper, we develop economic and economic statistical designs (ESD) for 3-level control charts. We apply the cost model proposed by Costa and Rahim.[Economic design of X charts with variable parameters: the Markov chain approach, J Appl Stat 28 (2001), 875–885] Furthermore, we assume that the length of time that the process remains in control is exponentially distributed which allows us to apply the Markov chain approach for developing the cost model. We apply a genetic algorithm to determine the optimal values of model parameters by minimizing the cost function. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed models and to compare the cost of the pure economic and ESD for three-level control charts. A sensitivity analysis is also conducted in this numerical example.  相似文献

The conventional Shewhart-type control chart is developed essentially on the central limit theorem. Thus, the Shewhart-type control chart performs particularly well when the observed process data come from a near-normal distribution. On the other hand, when the underlying distribution is unknown or non-normal, the sampling distribution of a parameter estimator may not be available theoretically. In this case, the Shewhart-type charts are not available. Thus, in this paper, we propose a parametric bootstrap control chart for monitoring percentiles when process measurements have an inverse Gaussian distribution. Through extensive Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate the behaviour and performance of the proposed bootstrap percentile charts. The average run lengths of the proposed percentage charts are investigated.  相似文献

Tukey’s control chart is generally used for monitoring the processes where the measurement process physically damages the product. It is based on single observation and robust to outliers. In this paper, two optimal synthetic Tukey’s control charts are proposed by integrating the conforming run length chart with the Tukey’s control chart and its modification. The performance comparison of the proposed charts with the existing Tukey’s control charts is made by using out-of-control average run length and extra quadratic loss as performance metrics. The proposed charts offer better protection against the process shifts as compare to the existing Tukey’s control charts when the underlying process distribution is symmetric or asymmetric. Simulation studies also establish the supremacy of the proposed control charts over the existing Tukey’s control charts. In the end, an illustrative example based on a real data set of the combined cycle power plant is provided for practical implementation.  相似文献

Statistical process control tools have been used routinely to improve process capabilities through reliable on-line monitoring and diagnostic processes. In the present paper, we propose a novel multivariate control chart that integrates a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm, a bootstrap method, and a control chart technique to improve multivariate process monitoring. The proposed chart uses as the monitoring statistic the predicted probability of class (PoC) values from an SVM algorithm. The control limits of SVM-PoC charts are obtained by a bootstrap approach. A simulation study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed SVM–PoC chart and to compare it with other data mining-based control charts and Hotelling's T 2 control charts under various scenarios. The results showed that the proposed SVM–PoC charts outperformed other multivariate control charts in nonnormal situations. Further, we developed an exponential weighed moving average version of the SVM–PoC charts for increasing sensitivity to small shifts.  相似文献

Duncan's economic model of Shewhart's original x¯ chart has established its optimal and economic application for processes with the Markovian failure characteristic. As the sample statistics show some indications of process variations, the variable-sampling-interval (VSI) control charts perform more effectively than the fixed sampling interval (FSI) ones due to a higher frequency in the sampling rate. Regarding the economic design of control charts, most studies have been dedicated to the FSI scheme. In 1998, Bai & Lee considered the production process with a single assignable cause and proposed an economic VSI design for a general x¯ control chart. However, in real cases, there are multiple assignable causes in the production process. Therefore, concerning the operation characteristics of the real industry, this research develops an economic model for the VSI control chart with multiple assignable causes based on stochastic and statistics theory and determines the optimal design parameters of the chart. A numerical example is also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and the result indicates that VSI performs more effectively than a FSI control chart.  相似文献

The usual practice in using a Bayesian control chart to monitor a process is done by taking samples from the process with fixed sampling intervals. Recent studies on traditional control charts have shown that variable sampling interval (VSI) scheme compared to classical scheme (fixed ratio sampling, FRS) helps practitioners to detect process shifts more quickly. In this paper, the effectiveness of VSI scheme on performance of Bayesian control chart has been studied, based on economic (ED) and economic–statistical designs (ESD). Monte Carlo method and artificial bee colony algorithm have been utilized to obtain optimal design parameters of Bayesian control chart (sample size, sampling intervals, warning limit and control limit) since the statistic of this approach does not have any specified distribution. Finally, VSI Bayesian control chart has been compared to FRS Bayesian and VSI X-bar approaches based on ED and ESD, separately. According to the results, it has been found that the performance of VSI Bayesian scheme is better than FRS Bayesian and VSI X-bar approaches.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Control charts are the frequently used tools for monitoring and controlling the processes. Classical control charts are sensitive to existing contaminated data which may be presented in the data collected from the processes. Thus, these charts are not able to control the processes precisely when the data are contaminated. Robust control charts are those which are less sensitive to contamination. Some robust control charts for monitoring the process variability were proposed in the past which are robust to some sorts of contamination. In this paper a new robust R control chart is proposed which is less sensitive to wide range of contaminations, i.e. general and local contaminations. Simulation studies are performed to compare the performance of the proposed control chart with some classical and robust control charts, using ARL and MSD as criteria for comparisons purposes. The simulation results show a very good performance of the proposed chart when both types of contaminations exist.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the effect of estimating the vector of means and the variance–covariance matrix on the performance of two of the most widely used multivariate cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts, the MCUSUM chart proposed by Crosier [Multivariate generalizations of cumulative sum quality-control schemes, Technometrics 30 (1988), pp. 291–303] and the MC1 chart proposed by Pignatiello and Runger [Comparisons of multivariate CUSUM charts, J. Qual. Technol. 22 (1990), pp. 173–186]. Using simulation, we investigate and compare the in-control and out-of-control performances of the competing charts in terms of the average run length measure. The in-control and out-of-control performances of the competing charts deteriorate significantly if the estimated parameters are used with control limits intended for known parameters, especially when only a few Phase I samples are used to estimate the parameters. We recommend the use of the MC1 chart over that of the MCUSUM chart if the parameters are estimated from a small number of Phase I samples.  相似文献

Average run lengths of the zone control chart are presented, The performance of this chart is compared with that of several Shewhart charts with and without runs rules, It is shown that the standard zone control chart has performance similar to some even simpler charts and a much higher false alarm rate than the Shewhart chart with all of the common runs rules. It is also shown that a slightly modified zone control chart outperforms the Shewhart chart with the common runs rules.  相似文献

In this article, we propose an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart for the shape parameter β of Weibull processes. The chart is based on a moving range when a single measurement is taken per sampling period. We consider both one-sided (lower-sided and upper-sided) and two-sided control charts. We perform simulations to estimate control limits that achieve a specified average run length (ARL) when the process is in control. The control limits we derive are ARL unbiased in that they result in ARL that is shorter than the stable-process ARL when β has shifted. We also perform simulations to determine Phase I sample size requirements if control limits are based on an estimate of β. We compare the ARL performance of the proposed chart to that of the moving range chart proposed in the literature.  相似文献

Recently statistical process control (SPC) methodologies have been developed to accommodate autocorrelated data. A primary method to deal with autocorrelated data is the use of residual charts. Although this methodology has the advantage that it can be applied to any autocorrelated data it needs time series modeling efforts. In addition for a X residual chart the detection capability is sometimes small compared to the X chart and EWMA chart. Zhang (1998) proposed the EWMAST chart which is constructed by charting the EWMA statistic for stationary processes to monitor the process mean. The performance of the EWMAST chart the X chart the X residual chart and other charts were compared in Zhang (1998). In this paper comparisons are made among the EWMAST chart the CUSUM residual chart and EWMA residual chart as well as the X residual chart and X chart via the average run length.  相似文献

Some control charts have been proposed to monitor the mean of a Weibull process with type-I censoring. One type of control charts is to monitor changes in the scale parameter because it indicates changes in the mean. With this approach, we compare different control charts such as Shewhart-type and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts based on conditional expected value (CEV) and cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart based on likelihood-ratio. A simulation approach is employed to compute control limits and average run lengths. The results show that the CUSUM chart has the best performance. However, the EWMA-CEV chart is recommendable for practitioners with its competitive performance and ease of use advantage. An illustrative example is also provided.  相似文献

Recent studies have shown that using variable sampling size and control limits (VSSC) schemes result in charts with more statistical power than variable sampling size (VSS) when detecting small to moderate shifts in the process mean vector. This paper presents an economic-statistical design (ESD) of the VSSC T2 control chart using the general model of Lorenzen and Vance [22]. The genetic algorithm approach is then employed to search for the optimal values of the six test parameters of the chart. We then compare the expected cost per unit of time of the optimally designed VSSC chart with optimally designed VSS and FRS (fixed ratio sampling) T2 charts as well as MEWMA charts.  相似文献

Control charts are widely used for monitoring quality characteristics of high-yield processes. In such processes where a large number of zero observations exists in count data, the zero-inflated binomial (ZIB) models are more appropriate than the ordinary binomial models. In ZIB models, random shocks occur with probability θ, and upon the occurrence of random shocks, the number of non-conforming items in a sample of size n follows the binomial distribution with proportion p. In the present article, we study in more detail the exponentially weighted moving average control chart based on ZIB distribution (ZIB-EWMA) and we also propose a new control chart based on the double exponentially weighted moving average statistic for monitoring ZIB data (ZIB-DEWMA). The two control charts are studied in detecting upward shifts in θ or p individually, as well as in both parameters simultaneously. Through a simulation study, we compare the performance of the proposed chart with the ZIB-Shewhart, ZIB-EWMA and ZIB-CUSUM charts. Finally, an illustrative example is also presented to display the practical application of the ZIB charts.  相似文献

Control charts have been popularly used as a user-friendly yet technically sophisticated tool to monitor whether a process is in statistical control or not. These charts are basically constructed under the normality assumption. But in many practical situations in real life this normality assumption may be violated. One such non-normal situation is to monitor the process variability from a skewed parent distribution where we propose the use of a Maxwell control chart. We introduce a pivotal quantity for the scale parameter of the Maxwell distribution which follows a gamma distribution. Probability limits and L-sigma limits are studied along with performance measure based on average run length and power curve. To avoid the complexity of future calculations for practitioners, factors for constructing control chart for monitoring the Maxwell parameter are given for different sample sizes and for different false alarm rate. We also provide simulated data to illustrate the Maxwell control chart. Finally, a real life example has been given to show the importance of such a control chart.  相似文献

Statistical design is applied to a multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) control chart. The chart parameters are control limit H and smoothing constant r. The choices of the parameters depend on the number of variables p and the size of the process mean shift δ. The MEWMA statistic is modeled as a Markov chain and the Markov chain approach is used to determine the properties of the chart. Although average run length has become a traditional measure of the performance of control schemes, some authors have suggested other measures, such as median and other percentiles of the run length distribution to explain run length properties of a control scheme. This will allow a thorough study of the performance of the control scheme. Consequently, conclusions based on these measures would provide a better and comprehensive understanding of a scheme. In this article, we present the performance of the MEWMA control chart as measured by the average run length and median run length. Graphs are given so that the chart parameters of an optimal MEWMA chart can be determined easily.  相似文献

One difficulty with developing multivariate attribute control charts is the lack of the related joint distribution. So, if it would be possible to generate the joint distribution of two (or more) attribute characteristics, then a bivaraite (or multivariate) attribute control chart can be developed based on Types I and II errors. Copula function is a solution to the matter. In this article, applying the copula function approach, we achieve the joint distribution of two correlated zero inflated Poisson (ZIP) distributions. Then, using this joint distribution, we develop a bivaraite control chart which can be used for monitoring correlated rare events. This copula-based bivariate ZIP control chart is compared with the simultaneous use of two separate univariate ZIP control charts. Based on the average run length (ARL) measure, it is shown that the proposed control chart is much better than the simultaneous use of two separate univariate charts. In addition, a real case study related to the environmental air in a sterilization process is investigated to show the applicability of the developed control chart.  相似文献

We present a new measure for evaluating the performance of control charts to detect abrupt changes of finite matrix sequences. The objective is to minimize the probability that the control chart fails to raise the alarm at unknown change point time for a given in-control average run length. We construct and prove the optimal control chart with dynamic control limits in different pre- and post-change distributions. We validate the optimality of the proposed chart by conducting exhaustive experiments on both simulation study and real-world data.  相似文献

A general model for the zone control chart is presented. Using this model, it is shown that there are score vectors for zone control charts which result in superior average run length performance in comparison to Shewhart charts with common runs rules.

A fast initial response (FIR) feature for the zone control chart is also proposed. Average run lengths of the zone control chart with this feature are calculated. It is shown that the FIR feature improves zone control chart performance by providing significantly earlier signals when the process is out of control.  相似文献
