In this paper we discuss the unique influences of ethics assessment procedures on comparative qualitative research. These influences are particularly pronounced when researchers are from different disciplines and in different countries. Focusing on our experience conducting a study on the perceptions of young people regarding HIV/AIDS in two countries (Italy and Canada), we describe the impact of the ethics assessment procedures in our respective countries on recruitment, sampling and comparability of findings. We also raise issues related to differences in ethics assessment processes from a disciplinary perspective. We conclude by suggesting that our theory of technique approach, which focuses on studying how the choices made in research implementation influence the study findings, should be extended to include the impact of ethics assessment procedures. 相似文献

practice which we know to be sound and to which we are committed, have differentiated us from those who were our peers. We
are related to them but no longer the same as them. The direct service advocates and the indirect service adherents, traveling
in different directions, relating to diverse goals, and trained in separate methods, have evolved into two different professional
entities bearing as many differences as similarities. If this is so, I would like to conceive of our parting not as a schism
but as an unfolding of differentiated professionals and professions each having its own validity.

ABSTRACT This introductory article sets out the core concerns of this special issue on time and temporality in relation to social movements. It examines three areas: historical times, events, and sequences. In each area, we examine the ways that time and temporality are (often implicitly) embedded in existing social movement scholarship. We then introduce some of the problems raised by our contributors, and the ways in which they utilise greater sensitivity to time and temporality in furthering our understanding of the dynamics of the mobilisation, functions and fortunes of social movements. 相似文献

The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) has released its draft guidebook for minimum standards for members (see ADAW, April 22, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adaw.32334 ). NAATP is not only for residential treatment providers, however. “Our position at NAATP is that we are a membership association for providers along the entire continuum and that, while residential holds an important place in our work and is our historical foundation, our membership is in no way limited to residential,” NAATP Executive Director Marvin Ventrell told ADAW last week. “Even apart from our membership, we intend our resources, including ethics and the guidebook, to reach and guide the entire continuum. It is true that some of the guidelines have application more or less relative to type of care, but as a whole it should be viewed as a provider guide, not just a residential provider guide.” We regret any confusion. Domestic objects are increasingly embedded with computational features, and link to a network of other intelligent objects. These technology artifacts can use physical movement to describe the flows of data passing through our homes. Supported by Philips Design and the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre, this research project takes domestic meteorology as a narrative framework for the design of networked, data-responsive prototypes. These weather devices are scattered over existing surfaces, mantlepieces, light fittings, and windows, and use movement to describe changes in the weather. In addition to providing a context for moving objects, meteorology offers some unexpected insights into our relationship with technology, and our use of technology as an ontological tool. 相似文献

Many state domestic violence intervention standards mandate that treatment for offenders should be separate from any treatment offered to victims. In this article we advocate that in cases of low-level violence, when couples choose to remain together, certain aspects of treatment should be offered conjointly. Specifically, our feedback from victims and offenders suggests that one tool generally taught to offenders-time-out--is often ineffective and can be used abusively when partners are not taught the tool concurrently. Present conceptions of listening, such as empathic or therapeutic listening, do not provide a way of alleviating the sense of being alone felt by individuals who are seriously ill or suffering in some other way. A focus on spirituality has become in vogue for the media as well as for professional conferences, journals, and schools of social work. Likewise, our clients are struggling with how to integrate religion and/or spirituality with their therapy. The premise of this paper is that we have a role in assisting our clients with this integration and to consider some of the current postmodern approaches. However, in attempting such an integration it is important to retain certain parameters and guidelines that have been helpful to our clinical work. This paper will examine how to make room for religion and spirituality in psychodynamic psychotherapy and the ways in which constructivism can be helpful in this process. The influences of psychodynamic theories and postmodernism shape the discussion in the following areas: definition of terms, self-awareness, deconstruction of clients' narrative, assessment of strengths and vulnerabilities, and reconstruction of a useful narrative. 相似文献
