An exhibition of Chinese women＇s art opened on March 25 at the Beijing-based Chinese Museum of Women and Children. The exhibit was part of the celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of lnternatioual Women＇s Day.

It is my pleasure to be here in Hong Kong at the Beijing ＋ 15 Forum of Status of Women amid the elegance and charm of China＇s Pearl of the Orient, and to have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the women of Hong Kong their good works. As this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, it is an apt date indeed for the Hong Kong Federation of Women to hold this forum. One hundred years ago, the Second International Socialist Women＇s Conference designated March 8 International Women＇s Day. Since then, March 8 has been a festival for women around the world.     

江苏省全力做好“十二五”妇女儿童发展规划编制工作

East China＇s Jiangsu Province has begun compiling the plan on children and women＇s development for the 12th Five-year Plan （2011-2015） period. Some of Jiangsu＇s cities, including Nanjing, Lianyungang and Taizhou, have some new ideas about and methods for compiling the plan. 为西藏妇女儿童撑开“维权之伞”——记西藏自治区妇联特色维权工作

在多年的维权工作中,有这样一个案件让人记忆深刻：一个好心的阿佳（藏语译：大姐的意思）来电反映．她经常听到隔壁家孩子撕心裂肺的哭声,有一次,她还看到孩子父母用烧烫的火钳往孩子腿上打。阿佳很担心孩子的生命随时会受到威胁,于是拔通了妇联的求助电话。接到电话后,自治区妇联立即行动,指派工作人员赶赴孩子家中核实情况,并协调公安、检察、卫生等部门参与展开调查,对孩子采取了妥善的救助措施。经过各部门的积极配合和努力,案件在最短时间内得到了有效调处,取得了良好的社会效果。像这样的成功案例还有很多,近五年来,西藏自治区妇联全面贯彻科学发展观,通过创新维权机制,切实维护了妇女儿童的合法权益,为促进西藏和谐稳定发挥了应有的作用。

The Office of Juxian County （in East China＇s Shandong Province）＇s Party （Communist Party of China） Committee and the Office of Juxian County People＇s Government in early April promulgated 10 projects to improve women and children＇s livelihoods in 2014. The conference to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Safe and Healthy Growth Project, or Ankang Project, was held on November 2 in the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing. Chen Zhili, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People＇s Congress, President of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and President of the China Children and Teenagers＇ Fund （CCTF）, delivered a speech at the event.     

“港独”分离主义对青年国家认同的影响与应对策略

青年国家认同研究是思想政治教育学的基本研究领域,培育青年国家认同是思想政治教育的重要内容和核心目标。近年来,香港不断发生青年团体以疏离大陆为目的的社会运动,香港青年的国家认同因之受到挑战。港独分离主义思潮是影响香港青年国家认同的主要消极因素,它通过设置敏感议题、扭曲本土意识、操纵街头政治运动、强化分离主义理论伪装、煽动陆港对立等方式蓄意扩大在青年中的影响,以达到消解香港青年国家认同,并最终谋求香港独立的政治目的。解决这个问题需要政府和社会形成合力,从意识形态话语建设、历史文化传统教育、政治法律制度规制、经济社会参与融合等方面稳步推进,全面清除港独分离主义的生存空间,最终加强培育香港青年的国家认同。

卫生部：优先为农村妇女儿童建健康档案

China will establish this year＇s health files for at least 20 percent of rural residents, and will give priority to women, children and seniors, Deng Haihua, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, told a recent news conference. Deng said the ministry began, in 2007, to establish rural family health files in 13 counties nationwide as part of the country＇s medical service system reform. ＂Standard electronic documents will replace conventional paper documentation throughout the country,＂ Deng added. ＂We, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs （MCA）, have also made efforts to improve medical security for children suffering from congenital heart disease and leukemia. New rural cooperative medical insurance and the MCA medical allowance now cover 90 percent of these patients＇ treatment fees,＂ Deng added.     

Farm Women and the Empowerment Potential in Value‐Added Agriculture

While the number of women in farming has risen in the United States, less clear is whether increasing participation in agriculture translates into empowerment. Are invisibility and disempowerment lingering expressions of farm women's experience? Using qualitative data drawn from 32 interviews with Michigan value‐added farmers, we examine the extent to which women have been able to experience empowerment, and the ways in which value‐added agriculture specifically fosters an empowering context. We adopt a conceptualization of empowerment from the development scholarship in order to establish a baseline for scrutiny, viewing empowerment as a multidimensional process constituting the “power to” realize one's goals, the opportunity to exercise “power with” others, and the ability to find and nurture “power within” the self. Our findings indicate that value‐added agriculture provides a unique context for women's empowerment. At the same time, the extent to which value added‐agriculture constitutes a venue for women's empowerment is complex, is multifaceted, and requires constant negotiation. It can be organized and performed in such a way as to subvert the empowerment process by confining women to specific social locations that may reproduce oppressive structures.

Children of Substance Abusing Women on Federal Welfare

SUMMARY

The present study sought to characterize well-being indicators for a sample of children of substance dependent TANF women. Participants were 372 mothers meeting DSM-IV criteria for substance dependence and 156 non-substance abusing women from two urban counties in New Jersey. Children of substance dependent TANF mothers experienced significant vulnerabilities, as demonstrated by higher levels of contextual risk factors and negative behavioral and emotional and school outcomes. Overall, these rates were about double those found in children of non-substance abusing mothers. Results highlight the need for multi-systemic services to address the problems experienced by substance abusing TANF women and their children.
