A nonparametric method based on the empirical likelihood is proposed to detect the change-point in the coefficient of linear regression models. The empirical likelihood ratio test statistic is proved to have the same asymptotic null distribution as that with classical parametric likelihood. Under some mild conditions, the maximum empirical likelihood change-point estimator is also shown to be consistent. The simulation results show the sensitivity and robustness of the proposed approach. The method is applied to some real datasets to illustrate the effectiveness.  相似文献

Summary.  We consider the problem of estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses, π 0, in a multiple-hypothesis set-up. The tests are based on observed p -values. We first review published estimators based on the estimator that was suggested by Schweder and Spjøtvoll. Then we derive new estimators based on nonparametric maximum likelihood estimation of the p -value density, restricting to decreasing and convex decreasing densities. The estimators of π 0 are all derived under the assumption of independent test statistics. Their performance under dependence is investigated in a simulation study. We find that the estimators are relatively robust with respect to the assumption of independence and work well also for test statistics with moderate dependence.  相似文献

Semiparametric transformation models provide flexible regression models for survival analysis, including the Cox proportional hazards and the proportional odds models as special cases. We consider the application of semiparametric transformation models in case-cohort studies, where the covariate data are observed only on cases and on a subcohort randomly sampled from the full cohort. We first propose an approximate profile likelihood approach with full-cohort data, which amounts to the pseudo-partial likelihood approach of Zucker [2005. A pseudo-partial likelihood method for semiparametric survival regression with covariate errors. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 100, 1264–1277]. Simulation results show that our proposal is almost as efficient as the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator. We then extend this approach to the case-cohort design, applying the Horvitz–Thompson weighting method to the estimating equations from the approximated profile likelihood. Two levels of weights can be utilized to achieve unbiasedness and to gain efficiency. The resulting estimator has a closed-form asymptotic covariance matrix, and is found in simulations to be substantially more efficient than the estimator based on martingale estimating equations. The extension to left-truncated data will be discussed. We illustrate the proposed method on data from a cardiovascular risk factor study conducted in Taiwan.  相似文献

When finite mixture models are used to fit data, it is sometimes important to estimate the number of mixture components. A nonparametric maximum-likelihood approach may result in too many support points and, in general, does not yield a consistent estimator. A penalized likelihood approach tends to produce a fit with fewer components, but it is not known whether that approach produces a consistent estimate of the number of mixture components. We suggest the use of a penalized minimum-distance method. It is shown that the estimator obtained is consistent for both the mixing distribution and the number of mixture components.  相似文献

We propose data generating structures which can be represented as the nonlinear autoregressive models with single and finite mixtures of scale mixtures of skew normal innovations. This class of models covers symmetric/asymmetric and light/heavy-tailed distributions, so provide a useful generalization of the symmetrical nonlinear autoregressive models. As semiparametric and nonparametric curve estimation are the approaches for exploring the structure of a nonlinear time series data set, in this article the semiparametric estimator for estimating the nonlinear function of the model is investigated based on the conditional least square method and nonparametric kernel approach. Also, an Expectation–Maximization-type algorithm to perform the maximum likelihood (ML) inference of unknown parameters of the model is proposed. Furthermore, some strong and weak consistency of the semiparametric estimator in this class of models are presented. Finally, to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed model, some simulation studies and an application to real data set are considered.  相似文献

This article presents a semiparametric method for estimating receiver operating characteristic surface under density ratio model. The construction of the proposed method is based on the adjacent-category logit model and the empirical likelihood approach. A bootstrap approach for the VUS estimator inference is presented. In a simulation study, the proposed estimator is compared with the existing parametric and nonparametric estimators in terms of bias, standard error, and mean square error. Finally, a real data example and some discussions on the proposed method are provided.  相似文献

In randomized clinical trials, a treatment effect on a time-to-event endpoint is often estimated by the Cox proportional hazards model. The maximum partial likelihood estimator does not make sense if the proportional hazard assumption is violated. Xu and O'Quigley (Biostatistics 1:423-439, 2000) proposed an estimating equation, which provides an interpretable estimator for the treatment effect under model misspecification. Namely it provides a consistent estimator for the log-hazard ratio among the treatment groups if the model is correctly specified, and it is interpreted as an average log-hazard ratio over time even if misspecified. However, the method requires the assumption that censoring is independent of treatment group, which is more restricted than that for the maximum partial likelihood estimator and is often violated in practice. In this paper, we propose an alternative estimating equation. Our method provides an estimator of the same property as that of Xu and O'Quigley under the usual assumption for the maximum partial likelihood estimation. We show that our estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal, and derive a consistent estimator of the asymptotic variance. If the proportional hazards assumption holds, the efficiency of the estimator can be improved by applying the covariate adjustment method based on the semiparametric theory proposed by Lu and Tsiatis (Biometrika 95:679-694, 2008).  相似文献

A new moment estimator of the dispersion parameter of the beta-binomial distribution is proposed. It is derived by the method of moments which is constrained to satisfy the unbiasedness of the estimating equation. It gives a better performance than those of the usual moment estimators and the stabilized moment estimator proposed by Tamura & Young. The bias of the estimator is smaller than that of the maximum likelihood estimate in a wide range of parameter space.  相似文献

This article introduces a semiparametric autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH) model that has conditional first and second moments given by autoregressive moving average and ARCH parametric formulations but a conditional density that is assumed only to be sufficiently smooth to be approximated by a nonparametric density estimator. For several particular conditional densities, the relative efficiency of the quasi-maximum likelihood estimator is compared with maximum likelihood under correct specification. These potential efficiency gains for a fully adaptive procedure are compared in a Monte Carlo experiment with the observed gains from using the proposed semiparametric procedure, and it is found that the estimator captures a substantial proportion of the potential. The estimator is applied to daily stock returns from small firms that are found to exhibit conditional skewness and kurtosis and to the British pound to dollar exchange rate.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of estimating the kernel error density function in nonparametric regression models. Sufficient conditions are given under which the kernel error density estimator based on nonparametric residuals is uniformly weakly and strongly consistent.  相似文献

We propose a new class of semiparametric regression models based on a multiplicative frailty assumption with a discrete frailty, which may account for cured subgroup in population. The cure model framework is then recast as a problem with a transformation model. The proposed models can explain a broad range of nonproportional hazards structures along with a cured proportion. An efficient and simple algorithm based on the martingale process is developed to locate the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator. Unlike existing expectation-maximization based methods, our approach directly maximizes a nonparametric likelihood function, and the calculation of consistent variance estimates is immediate. The proposed method is useful for resolving identifiability features embedded in semiparametric cure models. Simulation studies are presented to demonstrate the finite sample properties of the proposed method. A case study of stage III soft-tissue sarcoma is given as an illustration.  相似文献

It has recently been observed that, given the mean‐variance relation, one can improve on the accuracy of the quasi‐likelihood estimator by the adaptive estimator based on the estimation of the higher moments. The estimation of such moments is usually unstable, however, and consequently only for large samples does the improvement become evident. The author proposes a nonparametric estimating equation that does not depend on the estimation of such moments, but instead on the penalized minimization of asymptotic variance. His method provides a strong improvement over the quasi‐likelihood estimator and the adaptive estimators, for a wide range of sample sizes.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a nonparametric estimator for percentiles of the time-to-failure distribution obtained from a linear degradation model using the kernel density method. The properties of the proposed kernel estimator are investigated and compared with well-known maximum likelihood and ordinary least squares estimators via a simulation technique. The mean squared error and the length of the bootstrap confidence interval are used as the basis criteria of the comparisons. The simulation study shows that the performance of the kernel estimator is acceptable as a general estimator. When the distribution of the data is assumed to be known, the maximum likelihood and ordinary least squares estimators perform better than the kernel estimator, while the kernel estimator is superior when the assumption of our knowledge of the data distribution is violated. A comparison among different estimators is achieved using a real data set.  相似文献

A new fast algorithm for computing the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimate of a univariate log‐concave density is proposed and studied. It is an extension of the constrained Newton method for nonparametric mixture estimation. In each iteration, the newly extended algorithm includes, if necessary, new knots that are located via a special directional derivative function. The algorithm renews the changes of slope at all knots via a quadratically convergent method and removes the knots at which the changes of slope become zero. Theoretically, the characterisation of the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimate is studied and the algorithm is guaranteed to converge to the unique maximum likelihood estimate. Numerical studies show that it outperforms other algorithms that are available in the literature. Applications to some real‐world financial data are also given.  相似文献

In the parametric regression model, the covariate missing problem under missing at random is considered. It is often desirable to use flexible parametric or semiparametric models for the covariate distribution, which can reduce a potential misspecification problem. Recently, a completely nonparametric approach was developed by [H.Y. Chen, Nonparametric and semiparametric models for missing covariates in parameter regression, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 99 (2004), pp. 1176–1189; Z. Zhang and H.E. Rockette, On maximum likelihood estimation in parametric regression with missing covariates, J. Statist. Plann. Inference 47 (2005), pp. 206–223]. Although it does not require a model for the covariate distribution or the missing data mechanism, the proposed method assumes that the covariate distribution is supported only by observed values. Consequently, their estimator is a restricted maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) rather than the global MLE. In this article, we show the restricted semiparametric MLE could be very misleading in some cases. We discuss why this problem occurs and suggest an algorithm to obtain the global MLE. Then, we assess the performance of the proposed method via some simulation experiments.

In this paper, we study a nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator (NPMLE) of the survival function based on a semi-Markov model under dependent censoring. We show that the NPMLE is asymptotically normal and achieves asymptotic nonparametric efficiency. We also provide a uniformly consistent estimator of the corresponding asymptotic covariance function based on an information operator. The finite-sample performance of the proposed NPMLE is examined with simulation studies, which show that the NPMLE has smaller mean squared error than the existing estimators and its corresponding pointwise confidence intervals have reasonable coverages. A real example is also presented.  相似文献

A new density-based classification method that uses semiparametric mixtures is proposed. Like other density-based classifiers, it first estimates the probability density function for the observations in each class, with a semiparametric mixture, and then classifies a new observation by the highest posterior probability. By making a proper use of a multivariate nonparametric density estimator that has been developed recently, it is able to produce adaptively smooth and complicated decision boundaries in a high-dimensional space and can thus work well in such cases. Issues specific to classification are studied and discussed. Numerical studies using simulated and real-world data show that the new classifier performs very well as compared with other commonly used classification methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we revisit the problem of testing of the hypothesis of circular symmetry of a bivariate distribution. We propose some nonparametric tests based on sector counts. These include tests based on chi-square goodness-of-fit test, the classical likelihood ratio, mean deviation, and the range. The proposed tests are easy to implement and the exact null distributions for small sample sizes of the test statistics are obtained. Two examples with small and large data sets are given to illustrate the application of the tests proposed. For small and moderate sample sizes, the performances of the proposed tests are evaluated using empirical powers (empirical sizes are also reported). Also, we evaluate the performance of these count-based tests with adaptations of several well-known tests such as the Kolmogorov–Smirnov-type tests, tests based on kernel density estimator, and the Wilcoxon-type tests. It is observed that among the count-based tests the likelihood ratio test performs better.  相似文献

We propose a profile conditional likelihood approach to handle missing covariates in the general semiparametric transformation regression model. The method estimates the marginal survival function by the Kaplan-Meier estimator, and then estimates the parameters of the survival model and the covariate distribution from a conditional likelihood, substituting the Kaplan-Meier estimator for the marginal survival function in the conditional likelihood. This method is simpler than full maximum likelihood approaches, and yields consistent and asymptotically normally distributed estimator of the regression parameter when censoring is independent of the covariates. The estimator demonstrates very high relative efficiency in simulations. When compared with complete-case analysis, the proposed estimator can be more efficient when the missing data are missing completely at random and can correct bias when the missing data are missing at random. The potential application of the proposed method to the generalized probit model with missing continuous covariates is also outlined.  相似文献
