IT was only about ten years ago that there were only a few of newspapers and periodicals about women in China. But China has seen a rapid development of newspapers and periodicals on women since it began the policy of reform and opening to the outside world. Today the All-China Women's Federation and local women's federations sponsor and publish 47 different publications about women and children, some of which have a circulation of more than one million. These colorful, influential women's newspapers and periodicals are now some of the most interesting publications in China. Why have these publications been so successful? Recently our staff reporter interviewed several women chief editors about their work. The following interviews are in their own words.  相似文献

A report titled "Little Emperors in China," published several years ago, delineated the real living conditions of only children in contemporary Chinese cities. Almost all of these children were found to dominate their families. They were called the "little suns" of the family. There were never parents in Chinese history like oday's parents who shed their hearts' blood for and expected so much from their  相似文献

When the new semester started, 10,000 poverty- stricken, first-time pupils, from 128 schools in 14 provinces or municipalities, were given a meaningful present-- their first schoolbag. The program, entitled "My First Schoolbag," was launched on September 1 in Beijing Zhiquan School, a facility for the children of migrant workers. The program was sponsored by the China Children and Teenager Fund (CCTF) and CapitaMalls Asia (China). Some 10,000 schoolbags and stationery items were donated by CapitaMalls Asia (China), through CCTF, to Grade 1 students, most of whom were left-behind children, poverty- stricken children or children of migrant workers attending schools in Beijing, Chongqing, or one of 12 provinces. Fan Jiying, Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Vice-Chairperson of CCTF, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.  相似文献

DEAR READERS:
Chinese children born during the 1980s are members of a unique generation. Most of them are from single-child families, the result of the family planning policy China implemented more than 30 years ago to control its population. Therefore, the children have grown up without siblings to compete with them for attention and affection from their parents and grandparents.  相似文献

This article deals with how governmental and municipal welfare authorities in Sweden carried out personal case studies between 1940 and 1970. Home visits were used by the authorities to generate knowledge about the woman under investigation. The selected cases are taken from inquiries undertaken in connection with proposed sterilizations, abortions, and adoptions, and from child welfare officers' surveillance of children born out of wedlock.

A home visit both generated factual evidence about the woman and her living conditions and seemed to guarantee the authenticity of previously acquired knowledge.

The article underlines the close assocation of the flat/house and the woman. The home, and the people living in it, are viewed as manifestations of the character of the woman under investigation.

The concluding remarks consider how individuals in modern society become the object of the authorities' knowledge and power. The home beomes an arena of general interest and action, rather than a private sphere.  相似文献
