The presence of outliers in the data sets affects the structure of multicollinearity which arises from a high degree of correlation between explanatory variables in a linear regression analysis. This affect could be seen as an increase or decrease in the diagnostics used to determine multicollinearity. Thus, the cases of outliers reduce the reliability of diagnostics such as variance inflation factors, condition numbers and variance decomposition proportions. In this study, we propose to use a robust estimation of the correlation matrix obtained by the minimum covariance determinant method to determine the diagnostics of multicollinearity in the presence of outliers. As a result, the present paper demonstrates that the diagnostics of multicollinearity obtained by the robust estimation of the correlation matrix are more reliable in the presence of outliers.  相似文献

As known, the ordinary least-squares estimator (OLSE) is unbiased and also, has the minimum variance among all the linear unbiased estimators. However, under multicollinearity the estimator is generally unstable and poor in the sense that variance of the regression coefficients may be inflated and absolute values of the estimates may be too large. There are several classes of biased estimators in statistical literature to decrease the effect of multicollinearity in the design matrix. Here, based on the Cholesky decomposition, we propose such an estimator which makes the data to be slightly distorted. The exact risk expressions as well as the biases are derived for the proposed estimator. Also, some results demonstrating superiority of the suggested estimator over OLSE are obtained. Finally, a Monté-Carlo simulation study and a real data application related to acetylene data are presented to support our theoretical discussions.  相似文献

There are some classes of biased estimators for solving the multicollinearity among the predictor variables in statistical literature. In this research, we propose a modified estimator based on the QR decomposition in the semiparametric regression models, to combat the multicollinearity problem of design matrix which makes the data to be less distorted than the other methods. We derive the properties of the proposed estimator, and then, the necessary and sufficient condition for the superiority of the partially generalized QR-based estimator over partially generalized least-squares estimator is obtained. In the biased estimators, selection of shrinkage parameters plays an important role in data analysing. We use generalized cross-validation criterion for selecting the optimal shrinkage parameter and the bandwidth of the kernel smoother. Finally, the Monté-Carlo simulation studies and a real application related to bridge construction data are conducted to support our theoretical discussion.  相似文献

In this article a class of restricted minimum bias linear estimators of the vector of unknown regression coefficients when multicollinearity among the columns of the design matrix exists, is obtained. The ordinary ridge regression, principal components and shrinkage estimators are members of this class. Moreover, our ap-proach can be used to improve, in some sense, certain classes of generalized ridge and shrinkage estimators of the vector of un-known parameters in linear models.  相似文献

Autocorrelation in errors and multicollinearity among the regressors are serious problems in regression analysis. The aim of this paper is to examine multicollinearity and autocorrelation problems concurrently and to compare the r ? k class estimator to the generalized least squares estimator, the principal components regression estimator and the ridge regression estimator by the scalar and matrix mean square error criteria in the linear regression model with correlated errors.  相似文献

In comparison to other experimental studies, multicollinearity appears frequently in mixture experiments, a special study area of response surface methodology, due to the constraints on the components composing the mixture. In the analysis of mixture experiments by using a special generalized linear model, logistic regression model, multicollinearity causes precision problems in the maximum-likelihood logistic regression estimate. Therefore, effects due to multicollinearity can be reduced to a certain extent by using alternative approaches. One of these approaches is to use biased estimators for the estimation of the coefficients. In this paper, we suggest the use of logistic ridge regression (RR) estimator in the cases where there is multicollinearity during the analysis of mixture experiments using logistic regression. Also, for the selection of the biasing parameter, we use fraction of design space plots for evaluating the effect of the logistic RR estimator with respect to the scaled mean squared error of prediction. The suggested graphical approaches are illustrated on the tumor incidence data set.  相似文献

The presence of autocorrelation in errors and multicollinearity among the regressors have undesirable effects on the least-squares regression. There are a wide range of methods which are proposed to overcome the usefulness of the ordinary least-squares estimator or the generalized least-squares estimator, such as the Stein-rule, restricted least-squares or ridge estimator. Therefore, we introduce a new feasible generalized restricted ridge regression (FGRR) estimator to examine multicollinearity and autocorrelation problems simultaneously for the general linear regression model. We also derive some statistical properties of the FGRR estimator and comparisons have been conducted using matrix mean-square error. Moreover, a Monte Carlo simulation experiment is performed to investigate the performance of the proposed estimator over the others.  相似文献

Abstract

To overcome multicollinearity, a new stochastic mixed Liu estimator is presented and its efficiency is considered. We also compare the proposed estimators in the sense of matrix mean squared error criteria. Finally a numerical example and a simulation study are given to show the performance of the estimators.  相似文献

In this study, the performance of the estimators proposed in the presence of multicollinearity in the linear regression model with heteroscedastic or correlated or both error terms is investigated under the matrix mean square error criterion. Structures of the autocorrelated error terms are given and a Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to examine the relative efficiency of the estimators against each other.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of multicollinearity in a multiple linear regression model with linear equality restrictions. The restricted two parameter estimator which was proposed in case of multicollinearity satisfies the restrictions. The performance of the restricted two parameter estimator over the restricted least squares (RLS) estimator and the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator is examined under the mean square error (MSE) matrix criterion when the restrictions are correct and not correct. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the restricted ridge regression, restricted Liu and restricted shrunken estimators, which are the special cases of the restricted two parameter estimator, to have a smaller MSE matrix than the RLS and the OLS estimators are derived when the restrictions hold true and do not hold true. Theoretical results are illustrated with numerical examples based on Webster, Gunst and Mason data and Gorman and Toman data. We conduct a final demonstration of the performance of the estimators by running a Monte Carlo simulation which shows that when the variance of the error term and the correlation between the explanatory variables are large, the restricted two parameter estimator performs better than the RLS estimator and the OLS estimator under the configurations examined.  相似文献

In this article, the stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge regression estimator and stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator are proposed to overcome the well-known multicollinearity problem in linear regression model. The quadratic bias and mean square error matrix of the proposed estimators are derived and compared. Furthermore, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation are given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

The use of heteroscedasticity-consistent covariance matrix (HCCM) estimators is very common in practice to draw correct inference for the coefficients of a linear regression model with heteroscedastic errors. However, in addition to the problem of heteroscedasticity, linear regression models may also be plagued with some considerable degree of collinearity among the regressors when two or more regressors are considered. This situation causes many adverse effects on the least squares measures and alternatively, the ordinary ridge regression method is used as a common practice. But in the available literature, the problems of multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity have not been discussed as a combined issue especially, for the inference of the regression coefficients. The present article addresses the inference about the regression coefficients taking both the issues of multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity into account and suggests the use of HCCM estimators for the ridge regression. This article proposes t- and F-tests, based on these HCCM estimators, that perform adequately well in the numerical evaluation of the Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

A multicollinearity diagnostic is discussed for parametric models fit to censored data. The models considered include the Weibull, exponential and lognormal models as well as the Cox proportional hazards model. This diagnostic is an extension of the diagnostic proposed by Belsley, Kuh, and Welsch (1980). The diagnostic is based on the condition indicies and variance proportions of the variance covariance matrix. Its use and properties are studied through a series of examples. The effect of centering variables included in model is also discussed.  相似文献

A new stochastic mixed ridge estimator in linear regression model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper is concerned with the parameter estimation in linear regression model with additional stochastic linear restrictions. To overcome the multicollinearity problem, a new stochastic mixed ridge estimator is proposed and its efficiency is discussed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the stochastic mixed ridge estimator over the ridge estimator and the mixed estimator in the mean squared error matrix sense are derived for the two cases in which the parametric restrictions are correct and are not correct. Finally, a numerical example is also given to show the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, we present a principal component Liu-type estimator (LTE) by combining the principal component regression (PCR) and LTE to deal with the multicollinearity problem. The superiority of the new estimator over the PCR estimator, the ordinary least squares estimator (OLSE) and the LTE are studied under the mean squared error matrix. The selection of the tuning parameter in the proposed estimator is also discussed. Finally, a numerical example is given to explain our theoretical results.  相似文献

Recent developments of multivariate smoothing methods provide a rich collection of feasible models for nonparametric multivariate data analysis. Among the most interpretable are those with smoothed additive terms. Construction of various methods and algorithms for computing the models have been the main concern in literature in this area. Less results are available on the validation of computed fit, instead, and many applications of nonparametric methods end up in computing and comparing the generalized validation error or related indexes. This article reviews the behaviour of some of the best known multivariate nonparametric methods, based on subset selection and on projection, when (exact) collinearity or multicollinearity (near collinearity) is present in the input matrix. It shows the possible aliasing effects in computed fits of some selection methods and explores the properties of the projection spaces reached by projection methods in order to help data analysts to select the best model in case of ill conditioned input matrices. Two simulation studies and a real data set application are presented to illustrate further the effects of collinearity or multicollinearity in the fit.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the problem of variable selection in linear regression when multicollinearity is present in the data. It is well known that in the presence of multicollinearity, performance of least square (LS) estimator of regression parameters is not satisfactory. Consequently, subset selection methods, such as Mallow's Cp, which are based on LS estimates lead to selection of inadequate subsets. To overcome the problem of multicollinearity in subset selection, a new subset selection algorithm based on the ridge estimator is proposed. It is shown that the new algorithm is a better alternative to Mallow's Cp when the data exhibit multicollinearity.  相似文献

The backfitting algorithm commonly used in estimating additive models is used to decompose the component shares explained by a set of predictors on a dependent variable in the presence of linear dependencies (multicollinearity) among the predictors. Simulated and actual data show that the backfitting methods are superior in terms of predictive ability as the degree of multicollinearity worsens. Furthermore, the additive smoothing splines are especially superior when the linear model yield inadequate fit to the data and the predictors exhibit extreme multicollinearity.  相似文献

Tsallis entropy is a generalized form of entropy and tends to be Shannon entropy when q → 1. Using Tsallis entropy, an alternative estimation methodology (generalized maximum Tsallis entropy) is introduced and used to estimate the parameters in a linear regression model when the basic data are ill-conditioned. We describe the generalized maximum Tsallis entropy and for q = 2 we call that GMET2 estimator. We apply the GMET2 estimator for estimating the linear regression model Y = Xβ + e where the design matrix X is subject to severe multicollinearity. We compared the GMET2, generalized maximum entropy (GME), ordinary least-square (OLS), and inequality restricted least-square (IRLS) estimators on the analyzed dataset on Portland cement.  相似文献

In the multiple linear regression, multicollinearity and outliers are commonly occurring problems. They produce undesirable effects on the ordinary least squares estimator. Many alternative parameter estimation methods are available in the literature which deals with these problems independently. In practice, it may happen that the multicollinearity and outliers occur simultaneously. In this article, we present a new estimator called as Linearized Ridge M-estimator which combats the problem of simultaneous occurrence of multicollinearity and outliers. A real data example and a simulation study is carried out to illustrate the performance of the proposed estimator.  相似文献
