Let Q be a stable and conservative Q‐matrix over a countable state space S consisting of an irreducible class C and a single absorbing state 0 that is accessible from C. Suppose that Q admits a finite μ‐subinvariant measure m on C. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for there to exist a Q‐process for which m is μ‐invariant on C, as well as a necessary condition for the uniqueness of such a process.  相似文献

We derive the asymptotic distributions of the Dickey–Fuller (DF) and augmented DF (ADF) tests for unit root processes with Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic (GARCH) errors under fairly mild conditions. We show that the asymptotic distributions of the DF tests and ADF t‐type test are the same as those obtained in the independent and identically distributed Gaussian cases, regardless of whether the fourth moment of the underlying GARCH process is finite or not. Our results go beyond earlier ones by showing that the fourth moment condition on the scaled conditional errors is totally unnecessary. Some Monte Carlo simulations are provided to illustrate the finite‐sample‐size properties of the tests.  相似文献

We propose a novel method for tensorial‐independent component analysis. Our approach is based on TJADE and k‐JADE, two recently proposed generalizations of the classical JADE algorithm. Our novel method achieves the consistency and the limiting distribution of TJADE under mild assumptions and at the same time offers notable improvement in computational speed. Detailed mathematical proofs of the statistical properties of our method are given and, as a special case, a conjecture on the properties of k‐JADE is resolved. Simulations and timing comparisons demonstrate remarkable gain in speed. Moreover, the desired efficiency is obtained approximately for finite samples. The method is applied successfully to large‐scale video data, for which neither TJADE nor k‐JADE is feasible. Finally, an experimental procedure is proposed to select the values of a set of tuning parameters. Supplementary material including the R‐code for running the examples and the proofs of the theoretical results is available online.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is threefold. First, variance components testing for ANOVA ‐type mixed models is considered, in which response may not be divided into independent sub‐vectors, whereas most of existing methods are for models where response can be divided into independent sub‐vectors. Second, testing that a certain subset of variance components is zero. Third, as normality is often violated in practice, it is desirable to construct tests under very mild assumptions. To achieve these goals, an adaptive difference‐based test and an adaptive trace‐based test are constructed. The test statistics are asymptotically normal under the null hypothesis, are consistent against all global alternatives and can detect local alternatives distinct from the null at a rate as close to n ? 1 ∕ 2 as possible with n being the sample size. Moreover, when the dimensions of variance components in different sets are bounded, we develop a test with chi‐square as its limiting null distribution. The finite sample performance of the tests is examined via simulations, and a real data set is analysed for illustration.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the problem of seeking locally optimal designs for nonlinear dose‐response models with binary outcomes. Applying the theory of Tchebycheff Systems and other algebraic tools, we show that the locally D‐, A‐, and c‐optimal designs for three binary dose‐response models are minimally supported in finite, closed design intervals. The methods to obtain such designs are presented along with examples. The efficiencies of these designs are also discussed. This paper considers statistical inference for partially linear models Y = X ? β +ν(Z) +? when the linear covariate X is missing with missing probability π depending upon (Y, Z). We propose empirical likelihood‐based statistics to construct confidence regions for β and ν(z). The resulting empirical likelihood ratio statistics are shown to be asymptotically chi‐squared‐distributed. The finite‐sample performance of the proposed statistics is assessed by simulation experiments. The proposed methods are applied to a dataset from an AIDS clinical trial.  相似文献

The authors consider hidden Markov models (HMMs) whose latent process has m ≥ 2 states and whose state‐dependent distributions arise from a general one‐parameter family. They propose a test of the hypothesis m = 2. Their procedure is an extension to HMMs of the modified likelihood ratio statistic proposed by Chen, Chen & Kalbfleisch (2004) for testing two states in a finite mixture. The authors determine the asymptotic distribution of their test under the hypothesis m = 2 and investigate its finite‐sample properties in a simulation study. Their test is based on inference for the marginal mixture distribution of the HMM. In order to illustrate the additional difficulties due to the dependence structure of the HMM, they show how to test general regular hypotheses on the marginal mixture of HMMs via a quasi‐modified likelihood ratio. They also discuss two applications.  相似文献

Ghoudi, Khoudraji & Rivest [The Canadian Journal of Statistics 1998;26:187–197] showed how to test whether the dependence structure of a pair of continuous random variables is characterized by an extreme‐value copula. The test is based on a U‐statistic whose finite‐ and large‐sample variance are determined by the present authors. They propose estimates of this variance which they compare to the jackknife estimate of Ghoudi, Khoudraji & Rivest ( 1998 ) through simulations. They study the finite‐sample and asymptotic power of the test under various alternatives. They illustrate their approach using financial and geological data. We show that the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the fixed effects and within‐cluster correlation are consistent in a heteroscedastic nested‐error regression (HNER) model with completely unknown within‐cluster variances under mild conditions. The result implies that the empirical best linear unbiased prediction (EBLUP) method for small area estimation is valid in such a case. We also show that ignoring the heteroscedasticity can lead to inconsistent estimation of the within‐cluster correlation and inferior predictive performance. A jackknife measure of uncertainty for the EBLUP is developed under the HNER model. Simulation studies are carried out to investigate the finite‐sample performance of the EBLUP and MLE under the HNER model, with comparisons to those under the nested‐error regression model in various situations, as well as that of the jackknife measure of uncertainty. The well‐known Iowa crops data is used for illustration. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 40: 588–603; 2012 © 2012 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

Abstract. In the context of multivariate mean regression, we propose a new method to measure and estimate the inadequacy of a given parametric model. The measure is basically the missed fraction of variation after adjusting the best possible parametric model from a given family. The proposed approach is based on the minimum L 2 ‐distance between the true but unknown regression curve and a given model. The estimation method is based on local polynomial averaging of residuals with a polynomial degree that increases with the dimension d of the covariate. For any d ≥ 1 and under some weak assumptions we give a Bahadur‐type representation of the estimator from which ‐consistency and asymptotic normality are derived for strongly mixing variables. We report the outcomes of a simulation study that aims at checking the finite sample properties of these techniques. We present the analysis of a dataset on ultrasonic calibration for illustration.  相似文献

Unsupervised Curve Clustering using B-Splines   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Data in many different fields come to practitioners through a process naturally described as functional. Although data are gathered as finite vector and may contain measurement errors, the functional form have to be taken into account. We propose a clustering procedure of such data emphasizing the functional nature of the objects. The new clustering method consists of two stages: fitting the functional data by B‐splines and partitioning the estimated model coefficients using a k‐means algorithm. Strong consistency of the clustering method is proved and a real‐world example from food industry is given.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a smoothed Q‐learning algorithm for estimating optimal dynamic treatment regimes. In contrast to the Q‐learning algorithm in which nonregular inference is involved, we show that, under assumptions adopted in this paper, the proposed smoothed Q‐learning estimator is asymptotically normally distributed even when the Q‐learning estimator is not and its asymptotic variance can be consistently estimated. As a result, inference based on the smoothed Q‐learning estimator is standard. We derive the optimal smoothing parameter and propose a data‐driven method for estimating it. The finite sample properties of the smoothed Q‐learning estimator are studied and compared with several existing estimators including the Q‐learning estimator via an extensive simulation study. We illustrate the new method by analyzing data from the Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness–Alzheimer's Disease (CATIE‐AD) study.  相似文献

We discuss a class of difference‐based estimators for the autocovariance in nonparametric regression when the signal is discontinuous and the errors form a stationary m‐dependent process. These estimators circumvent the particularly challenging task of pre‐estimating such an unknown regression function. We provide finite‐sample expressions of their mean squared errors for piecewise constant signals and Gaussian errors. Based on this, we derive biased‐optimized estimates that do not depend on the unknown autocovariance structure. Notably, for positively correlated errors, that part of the variance of our estimators that depend on the signal is minimal as well. Further, we provide sufficient conditions for ‐consistency; this result is extended to piecewise Hölder regression with non‐Gaussian errors. We combine our biased‐optimized autocovariance estimates with a projection‐based approach and derive covariance matrix estimates, a method that is of independent interest. An R package, several simulations and an application to biophysical measurements complement this paper.  相似文献

Abstract. We consider the problem of testing the equality of J quantile curves from independent samples. A test statistic based on an L2‐distance between non‐crossing non‐parametric estimates of the quantile curves from the individual samples is proposed. Asymptotic normality of this statistic is established under the null hypothesis, local and fixed alternatives, and the finite sample properties of a bootstrap‐based version of this test statistic are investigated by means of a simulation study.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating the Laplace transform of volatility within a fixed time interval [0,T] using high‐frequency sampling, where we assume that the discretized observations of the latent process are contaminated by microstructure noise. We use the pre‐averaging approach to deal with the effect of microstructure noise. Under the high‐frequency scenario, we obtain a consistent estimator whose convergence rate is , which is known as the optimal convergence rate of the estimation of integrated volatility functionals under the presence of microstructure noise. The related central limit theorem is established. The simulation studies justify the finite‐sample performance of the proposed estimator.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: We introduce a class of Toeplitz‐band matrices for simple goodness of fit tests for parametric regression models. For a given length r of the band matrix the asymptotic optimal solution is derived. Asymptotic normality of the corresponding test statistic is established under a fixed and random design assumption as well as for linear and non‐linear models, respectively. This allows testing at any parametric assumption as well as the computation of confidence intervals for a quadratic measure of discrepancy between the parametric model and the true signal g;. Furthermore, the connection between testing the parametric goodness of fit and estimating the error variance is highlighted. As a by‐product we obtain a much simpler proof of a result of 34 ) concerning the optimality of an estimator for the variance. Our results unify and generalize recent results by 9 ) and 15 , 16 ) in several directions. Extensions to multivariate predictors and unbounded signals are discussed. A simulation study shows that a simple jacknife correction of the proposed test statistics leads to reasonable finite sample approximations.  相似文献

We propose a new method for risk‐analytic benchmark dose (BMD) estimation in a dose‐response setting when the responses are measured on a continuous scale. For each dose level d, the observation X(d) is assumed to follow a normal distribution: . No specific parametric form is imposed upon the mean μ(d), however. Instead, nonparametric maximum likelihood estimates of μ(d) and σ are obtained under a monotonicity constraint on μ(d). For purposes of quantitative risk assessment, a ‘hybrid’ form of risk function is defined for any dose d as R(d) = P[X(d) < c], where c > 0 is a constant independent of d. The BMD is then determined by inverting the additional risk functionRA(d) = R(d) ? R(0) at some specified value of benchmark response. Asymptotic theory for the point estimators is derived, and a finite‐sample study is conducted, using both real and simulated data. When a large number of doses are available, we propose an adaptive grouping method for estimating the BMD, which is shown to have optimal mean integrated squared error under appropriate designs.  相似文献

Abstract. Estimators based on data‐driven generalized weighted Cramér‐von Mises distances are defined for data that are subject to a possible right censorship. The function used to measure the distance between the data, summarized by the Kaplan–Meier estimator, and the target model is allowed to depend on the sample size and, for example, on the number of censored items. It is shown that the estimators are consistent and asymptotically multivariate normal for every p dimensional parametric family fulfiling some mild regularity conditions. The results are applied to finite mixtures. Simulation results for finite mixtures indicate that the estimators are useful for moderate sample sizes. Furthermore, the simulation results reveal the usefulness of sample size dependent and censoring sensitive distance functions for moderate sample sizes. Moreover, the estimators for the mixing proportion seem to be fairly robust against a ‘symmetric’ contamination model even when censoring is present.  相似文献

Abstract. The cross‐validation (CV) criterion is known to be asecond‐order unbiased estimator of the risk function measuring the discrepancy between the candidate model and the true model, as well as the generalized information criterion (GIC) and the extended information criterion (EIC). In the present article, we show that the 2kth‐order unbiased estimator can be obtained using a linear combination from the leave‐one‐out CV criterion to the leave‐k‐out CV criterion. The proposed scheme is unique in that a bias smaller than that of a jackknife method can be obtained without any analytic calculation, that is, it is not necessary to obtain the explicit form of several terms in an asymptotic expansion of the bias. Furthermore, the proposed criterion can be regarded as a finite correction of a bias‐corrected CV criterion by using scalar coefficients in a bias‐corrected EIC obtained by the bootstrap iteration.  相似文献

This paper is about vector autoregressive‐moving average models with time‐dependent coefficients to represent non‐stationary time series. Contrary to other papers in the univariate case, the coefficients depend on time but not on the series' length n. Under appropriate assumptions, it is shown that a Gaussian quasi‐maximum likelihood estimator is almost surely consistent and asymptotically normal. The theoretical results are illustrated by means of two examples of bivariate processes. It is shown that the assumptions underlying the theoretical results apply. In the second example, the innovations are marginally heteroscedastic with a correlation ranging from ?0.8 to 0.8. In the two examples, the asymptotic information matrix is obtained in the Gaussian case. Finally, the finite‐sample behaviour is checked via a Monte Carlo simulation study for n from 25 to 400. The results confirm the validity of the asymptotic properties even for short series and the asymptotic information matrix deduced from the theory.  相似文献
