This study proposes the estimators for the mean and its variance of the number of respondents who possessed a rare sensitive attribute based on stratified sampling schemes (stratified sampling and stratified double sampling). This study deals with the extension of the estimation reported in Land et al. [Estimation of a rare sensitive attribute using Poisson distribution, Statistics (2011), in press. DOI: 10.1080/02331888.2010.524300] using a Poisson distribution and an unrelated question randomized response model reported in Greenberg et al. [The unrelated question randomized response model: Theoretical framework, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 64 (1969), 520–539]. In the stratified sampling, the estimators are proposed when the parameter of the rare unrelated attribute is known and unknown. The variances of estimators using a proportional and optimum allocation are also suggested. The proposed estimators are evaluated using a relative efficiency comparing variances of the estimators reported in Land et al. depending on the parameters and the probability of selecting a question. We showed that our proposed methods have better efficiencies than Land et al.’s randomized response model in some conditions. When the sizes of stratified populations are not given, other estimators are suggested using a stratified double sampling. For the proportional allocation, the difference between two variances in the stratified sampling and the stratified double sampling is given with the known rare unrelated attribute.  相似文献

Abstract

In the present article, an effort has been made to develop calibration estimators of the population mean under two-stage stratified random sampling design when auxiliary information is available at primary stage unit (psu) level. The properties of the developed estimators are derived in-terms of design based approximate variance and approximate consistent design based estimator of the variance. Some simulation studies have been conducted to investigate the relative performance of calibration estimator over the usual estimator of the population mean without using auxiliary information in two-stage stratified random sampling. Proposed calibration estimators have outperformed the usual estimator without using auxiliary information.  相似文献

This work considers the problem of estimating a quantile function based on different stratified sampling mechanism. First, we develop an estimate for population quantiles based on stratified simple random sampling (SSRS) and extend the discussion for stratified ranked set sampling (SRSS). Furthermore, the asymptotic behavior of the proposed estimators are presented. In addition, we derive an analytical expression for the optimal allocation under both sampling schemes. Simulation studies are designed to examine the performance of the proposed estimators under varying distributional assumptions. The efficiency of the proposed estimates is further illustrated by analyzing a real data set from CHNS.  相似文献

We investigate the relative performance of stratified bivariate ranked set sampling (SBVRSS), with respect to stratified simple random sampling (SSRS) for estimating the population mean with regression methods. The mean and variance of the proposed estimators are derived with the mean being shown to be unbiased. We perform a simulation study to compare the relative efficiency of SBVRSS to SSRS under various data-generating scenarios. We also compare the two sampling schemes on a real data set from trauma victims in a hospital setting. The results of our simulation study and the real data illustration indicate that using SBVRSS for regression estimation provides more efficiency than SSRS in most cases.  相似文献

The present article deals with the estimation of mean number of respondents who possess a rare sensitive character in presence of known and unknown proportion of a rare unrelated non-sensitive attribute by using the Poisson probability distribution in stratified random sampling as well as in stratified random double sampling. The variance of rare sensitive character is also derived under proportional and optimal allocation methods in stratified random sampling when stratum sizes are known and unknown. The properties of the suggested estimation procedures have been deeply examined. The proposed model is found to be dominant over Lee et al. [Estimation of a rare sensitive attribute in a stratified sample using Poisson distribution. Statistics. 2013;47:575–589] model. Numerical illustrations are presented to support the theoretical results. Results are analysed and suitable recommendations are put forward to the survey practitioners.  相似文献

In previous papers the problem of estimating the Gini-Simpson index of diversity for large populations has been considered by using random samplings with and without replacement, Nevertheless, the populations to which this estimation is usually applied (e.g., anthropoiogicai, ecological, linguistic and sociological populations) often arise naturally stratified.

In this paper we first construct unbiased estimators of the Gini-Simpson index from a sample drawn according to a stratified sampling with proportional allocation and independently in different strata. Then, we determine the standard error of such estimators. The advantages of the stratification in estimating diversity are later confirmed by means of a practical example. We finally suggest complementary studies that could be additionally developed.  相似文献

This paper provides an integrated approach for estimating parametric models from endogenous stratified samples. We discuss several alternative ways of removing the bias of the moment indicators usually employed under random sampling for estimating the parameters of the structural model and the proportion of the strata in the population. Those alternatives give rise to a number of moment-based estimators that are appropriate for both cases where the marginal strata probabilities are known and unknown. The derivation of our estimators is very simple and intuitive and incorporates as particular cases most of the likelihood-based estimators previously suggested by other authors.  相似文献

This paper develops the theory of calibration estimation and proposes calibration approach alternative to existing calibration estimators for estimating population mean of the study variable using auxiliary variable in stratified sampling. The theory of new calibration estimation is given and optimum weights are derived. A simulation study is carried out to performance of the proposed calibration estimator with other existing calibration estimators. The results reveal that the proposed calibration estimators are more efficient than Tracy et al., Singh et al., Singh calibration estimators of the population mean.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a generalized class of estimators for finite population mean using two auxiliary variables in two-phase stratified sampling for non response. We identify 17 estimators as special cases of the proposed class of estimators. Expressions for the bias and mean squared error (MSE) of estimators are obtained up to first order of approximation. A data set is used for efficiency comparisons.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the finite population mean in stratified random sampling by using two auxiliary variables. This paper proposed a ratio-cum-product exponential type estimator of population mean under different situations: (i) when there is presence of non-response and measurement errors on the study as well as auxiliary variables; (ii) when there is non-response on the study and auxiliary variables but with no measurement error; (iii) when there is complete response on study variable but there is presence of non-response and measurement error on the auxiliary variables and (iv) when there are complete response and measurement error on study as well as auxiliary variables. The expressions of the bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator have been obtained up to the first degree of approximation. The proposed estimator has been compared with usual unbiased estimator, ratio estimator and other existing estimators and the conditions obtained to show the efficacy of the proposed estimator over other considered estimators. Simulation study is carried out to support the theoretical findings.  相似文献

Adaptive cluster sampling (ACS) is considered to be the most suitable sampling design for the estimation of rare, hidden, clustered and hard-to-reach population units. The main characteristic of this design is that it may select more meaningful samples and provide more efficient estimates for the field investigator as compare to the other conventional sampling designs. In this paper, we proposed a generalized estimator with a single auxiliary variable for the estimation of rare, hidden and highly clustered population variance under ACS design. The expressions of approximate bias and mean square error are derived and the efficiency comparisons have been made with other existing estimators. A numerical study is carried out on a real population of aquatic birds together with an artificial population generated by Poisson cluster process. Related results of numerical study show that the proposed generalized variance estimator is able to provide considerably better results over the competing estimators.  相似文献

The present article deals with the estimation of mean number of individuals possess a rare sensitive attribute using Poisson probability distribution, when the population consists of clusters. Unbiased estimation procedures for the mean number of individuals have been suggested and their properties are discussed when the parameter of a rare non-sensitive unrelated attribute is assumed to be known as well as unknown. The suggested estimation procedure is further discussed for situation of stratified cluster population. Empirical studies are carried out to show the dominance of proposed method and resultant estimators over a well-known contemporary estimator.  相似文献

Analysis of categorical data by linear models is extended to data obtained by stratified random sampling. It is shown that, asymptotically, proportional allocation reduces the variances of estimators from those obtained hy simple random sampling. The difference between the asymptotic covariance matrices of estimated parameters obtained by simple random sampling and stratified random sampling with proportional allocation is shown to be positive definite vinder fairly non-restrictive conditions, when an asymptotically efficient method of estimation is used. Data from a major community study of mental health are used to illustrate application of the technique.  相似文献

This paper deals with estimation of population median in simple and stratified random samplings by using auxiliary information. Auxiliary information is rarely used in estimating population median, although there have been many studies to estimate population mean using auxiliary information. In this study, we suggest some estimators using auxiliary information such as mode and range of an auxiliary variable and correlation coefficient. We also expand these estimators to stratified random sampling for combined and separate estimators. We obtain mean square error equations for all proposed estimators and find theoretical conditions. These conditions are also supported by using numerical examples.  相似文献

Calibration method adjusts the original design weights to improve the estimates by using auxiliary information. In this article we have proposed new calibration estimators under stratified ranked set sampling design and derive the estimator of variance of calibration estimator. A simulation study is carried out to see the performance of proposed estimators.  相似文献

In this article, a chain ratio-product type exponential estimator is proposed for estimating finite population mean in stratified random sampling with two auxiliary variables under double sampling design. Theoretical and empirical results show that the proposed estimator is more efficient than the existing estimators, i.e., usual stratified random sample mean estimator, Chand (1975) chain ratio estimator, Choudhary and Singh (2012) estimator, chain ratio-product-type estimator, Sahoo et al. (1993) difference type estimator, and Kiregyera (1984) regression-type estimator. Two data sets are used to illustrate the performances of different estimators.  相似文献

This article suggests an efficient method of estimating a rare sensitive attribute which is assumed following Poisson distribution by using three-stage unrelated randomized response model instead of the Land et al. model (2011 Land, M., S. Singh, and S. A. Sedory. 2011. Estimation of a rare sensitive attribute using poisson distribution. Statistics 46 (3):35160. doi:10.1080/02331888.2010.524300.[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) when the population consists of some different sized clusters and clusters selected by probability proportional to size(:pps) sampling. A rare sensitive parameter is estimated by using pps sampling and equal probability two-stage sampling when the parameter of a rare unrelated attribute is assumed to be known and unknown.

We extend this method to the case of stratified population by applying stratified pps sampling and stratified equal probability two-stage sampling. An empirical study is carried out to show the efficiency of the two proposed methods when the parameter of a rare unrelated attribute is assumed to be known and unknown.  相似文献

Adaptive allocations in stratified sampling design are suitable for studying Biological and Environmental populations. Biologists tend to use the conventional stratified estimator for an adaptive allocation sampling design in spite of its adaptive nature. In this paper, we have introduced an adaptive allocation sampling design for which the conventional stratified estimator has some desired statistical properties. We conduct a simulation study on a real population. The results show that the conventional stratified estimator for the introduced adaptive allocation sampling design is more efficient than other available estimators.  相似文献

We propose an improved difference-cum-exponential ratio type estimator for estimating the finite population mean in simple and stratified random sampling using two auxiliary variables. We obtain properties of the estimators up to first order of approximation. The proposed class of estimators is found to be more efficient than the usual sample mean estimator, ratio estimator, exponential ratio type estimator, usual two difference type estimators, Rao (1991) estimator, Gupta and Shabbir (2008) estimator, and Grover and Kaur (2011) estimator. We use six real data sets in simple random sampling and two in stratified sampling for numerical comparisons.  相似文献
