As a lifetime distribution, Harris family of distributions are applied to the lifetime of a series system with random number of components. In this paper, properties of various ageing classes of mixtures of Harris family of distributions, where the tilt parameter of a Harris distribution is taken as a random variable, are studied. We obtain an upper bound for maximum error in evaluating its reliability function. Two bounds are also presented for survival function and expectation of the mixed Harris family. We also provide some interesting bounds for its residual survival function. Our results generalize several previous findings in this connection. Some illustrative examples are also provided.  相似文献

In survival analysis, the classical Koziol-Green random censorship model is commonly used to describe informative censoring. Hereby, it is assumed that the distribution of the censoring time is a power of the distribution of the survival time. In this article, we extend this model by assuming a general function between these distributions. We determine this function from a relationship between the observable random variables which is described by a copula family that depends on an unknown parameter θ. For this setting, we develop a semi-parametric estimator for the distribution of the survival time in which we propose a pseudo-likelihood estimator for the copula parameter θ. As results, we show first the consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator for θ. Afterwards, we prove the weak convergence of the process associated to the semi-parametric distribution estimator. Furthermore, we investigate the finite sample performance of these estimators through a simulation study and finally apply it to a practical data set on survival with malignant melanoma.  相似文献

This work presents an extension of the slash Lindley–Weibull distribution, of which it can be considered a modification. The new family is obtained by using the quotient of two independent random variables: a two-parameter Lindley–Weibull distribution divided by a power of the exponential distribution with parameter equal to 2. We present the pdf and cdf of the new distribution, analyzing their risk functions. Some statistical properties are studied and the moments and coefficients of asymmetry and kurtosis are shown. The parameter estimation problem is carried out by the maximum likelihood method. The method is assessed by a Monte Carlo simulation study. We use nutrition data, which are characterized by high kurtosis, to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed model.  相似文献

The exponential failure model is studied from the hierarchical point of view. The parameter of the exponential is considered as a random variable with a gamma function as a prior. Futhermore, the scale parameter of the gamma prior isassumed to be a random variable with known hyperprior. Under these assumptions estimators are derived for the exponential parameter and reliability function. Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to compare the various estimators.  相似文献

Selecting an appropriate structure for a linear mixed model serves as an appealing problem in a number of applications such as in the modelling of longitudinal or clustered data. In this paper, we propose a variable selection procedure for simultaneously selecting and estimating the fixed and random effects. More specifically, a profile log-likelihood function, along with an adaptive penalty, is utilized for sparse selection. The Newton-Raphson optimization algorithm is performed to complete the parameter estimation. By jointly selecting the fixed and random effects, the proposed approach increases selection accuracy compared with two-stage procedures, and the usage of the profile log-likelihood can improve computational efficiency in one-stage procedures. We prove that the proposed procedure enjoys the model selection consistency. A simulation study and a real data application are conducted for demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

We consider the problem of uniformly minimum variance unbiased (UMVU) estimation of U-estimable functions of three unknown truncation parameters based on two independent random samples: one from a two-truncation parameter family and the other from a one-truncation parameter family. In particular, we obtain the UMVU estimator of the functional Pr{Y > X} and the shortest confidence intervals for some parametric functions.  相似文献

We consider variable selection in linear regression of geostatistical data that arise often in environmental and ecological studies. A penalized least squares procedure is studied for simultaneous variable selection and parameter estimation. Various penalty functions are considered including smoothly clipped absolute deviation. Asymptotic properties of penalized least squares estimates, particularly the oracle properties, are established, under suitable regularity conditions imposed on a random field model for the error process. Moreover, computationally feasible algorithms are proposed for estimating regression coefficients and their standard errors. Finite‐sample properties of the proposed methods are investigated in a simulation study and comparison is made among different penalty functions. The methods are illustrated by an ecological dataset of landcover in Wisconsin. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 37: 607–624; 2009 © 2009 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

We give random variate generators for the generalized hyperbolic secant distribution and related families such as Morris's skewed generalized hyperbolic secant family and a family introduced by Laha and Lukacs. The rejection method generators are uniformly fast over the parameter space and are based upon a complex function representation of the distributions due to Harkness and HarknessThe author's research was sponsored by NSERC Grant A3456 and FCAR Grant 90-ER-0291.  相似文献

A general family of estimators, which use the information of two auxiliary variables in the stratified random sampling, is proposed to estimate the population mean of the variable under study. Under stratified random sampling without replacement scheme, the expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE) up to the first- and second-order approximations are derived. The family of estimators in its optimum case is discussed. Also, an empirical study is carried out to show the properties of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the variable selections for a varying coefficient models with missing response at random. A procedure is presented by basis function approximations with smooth-threshold estimating equations. Furthermore, the proposed method selects significant variables and estimates coefficients simultaneously avoiding the problem of solving a convex optimization, which reduced the burden of computation. Compared to existing equation based approaches, our procedure is more efficient and quick. With proper choices the regularization parameter, the resulting estimates perform an oracle property. A cross-validation for tuning parameter selection is also proposed, a numerical study confirms the performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

We consider an extension of the recursive bivariate probit model for estimating the effect of a binary variable on a binary outcome in the presence of unobserved confounders, nonlinear covariate effects and overdispersion. Specifically, the model consists of a system of two binary outcomes with a binary endogenous regressor which includes smooth functions of covariates, hence allowing for flexible functional dependence of the responses on the continuous regressors, and arbitrary random intercepts to deal with overdispersion arising from correlated observations on clusters or from the omission of non‐confounding covariates. We fit the model by maximizing a penalized likelihood using an Expectation‐Maximisation algorithm. The issues of automatic multiple smoothing parameter selection and inference are also addressed. The empirical properties of the proposed algorithm are examined in a simulation study. The method is then illustrated using data from a survey on health, aging and wealth.  相似文献

A flexible family of multivariate models, named multiple stable Tweedie (MST) models, is introduced and produces generalized variance functions which are products of powered components of the mean. These MST models are built from a fixed univariate stable Tweedie variable having a positive value domain, and the remaining random variables given the fixed one are also real independent Tweedie variables, with the same dispersion parameter equal to the fixed component. In this huge family of MST models, generalized variance estimators are explicitly pointed out by maximum likelihood method and, moreover, computably presented for the uniform minimum variance and unbiased approach. The second estimator is brought from modified Lévy measures of MST which lead to some solutions of particular Monge–Ampère equations.  相似文献

This paper describes the modelling and fitting of Gaussian Markov random field spatial components within a Generalized AdditiveModel for Location, Scale and Shape (GAMLSS) model. This allows modelling of any or all the parameters of the distribution for the response variable using explanatory variables and spatial effects. The response variable distribution is allowed to be a non-exponential family distribution. A new package developed in R to achieve this is presented. We use Gaussian Markov random fields to model the spatial effect in Munich rent data and explore some features and characteristics of the data. The potential of using spatial analysis within GAMLSS is discussed. We argue that the flexibility of parametric distributions, ability to model all the parameters of the distribution and diagnostic tools of GAMLSS provide an ideal environment for modelling spatial features of data.  相似文献

Sample size calculations in clinical trials need to be based on profound parameter assumptions. Wrong parameter choices may lead to too small or too high sample sizes and can have severe ethical and economical consequences. Adaptive group sequential study designs are one solution to deal with planning uncertainties. Here, the sample size can be updated during an ongoing trial based on the observed interim effect. However, the observed interim effect is a random variable and thus does not necessarily correspond to the true effect. One way of dealing with the uncertainty related to this random variable is to include resampling elements in the recalculation strategy. In this paper, we focus on clinical trials with a normally distributed endpoint. We consider resampling of the observed interim test statistic and apply this principle to several established sample size recalculation approaches. The resulting recalculation rules are smoother than the original ones and thus the variability in sample size is lower. In particular, we found that some resampling approaches mimic a group sequential design. In general, incorporating resampling of the interim test statistic in existing sample size recalculation rules results in a substantial performance improvement with respect to a recently published conditional performance score.  相似文献

The current study follows an educational intervention on bottle-weaning to simultaneously evaluate effects of the bottle-weaning intervention on reducing bottle use, daily milk intake from bottles, and daily energy intake in toddlers aged 11–13 months. In this paper, we propose to use shared parameter models and random effects models to model these outcomes jointly. Our joint models consist of two submodels: a two-part submodel for modeling the odds of bottle use and the intensity of daily milk intake from bottles, and a linear mixed submodel for modeling the intensity of daily energy intake. The two submodels are linked by either shared random effects or separate but correlated random effects. We investigate whether the intervention effects, parameter estimates, and model fit differ between shared parameter models and random effects models.  相似文献

The proportional odds model gives a method of generating new family of distributions by adding a parameter, called tilt parameter, to expand an existing family of distributions. The new family of distributions so obtained is known as Marshall–Olkin family of distributions or Marshall–Olkin extended distributions. In this paper, we consider Marshall–Olkin family of distributions in discrete case with fixed tilt parameter. We study different ageing properties, as well as different stochastic orderings of this family of distributions. All the results of this paper are supported by several examples.  相似文献

The Lasso has sparked interest in the use of penalization of the log‐likelihood for variable selection, as well as for shrinkage. We are particularly interested in the more‐variables‐than‐observations case of characteristic importance for modern data. The Bayesian interpretation of the Lasso as the maximum a posteriori estimate of the regression coefficients, which have been given independent, double exponential prior distributions, is adopted. Generalizing this prior provides a family of hyper‐Lasso penalty functions, which includes the quasi‐Cauchy distribution of Johnstone and Silverman as a special case. The properties of this approach, including the oracle property, are explored, and an EM algorithm for inference in regression problems is described. The posterior is multi‐modal, and we suggest a strategy of using a set of perfectly fitting random starting values to explore modes in different regions of the parameter space. Simulations show that our procedure provides significant improvements on a range of established procedures, and we provide an example from chemometrics.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a new class of slash distribution. We define the distribution through means of a stochastic representation as the mixture of an alpha half normal random variable with respect to the power of a uniform random variable. Properties involving moments and moment generating function are derived. The usefulness and flexibility of the proposed distribution is illustrated through a real application by maximum likelihood procedure.  相似文献

We study a new family of distributions defined by the minimum of the Poisson random number of independent identically distributed random variables having a general exponentiated G distribution. Some mathematical properties of the new family including ordinary and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, mean deviations, order statistics and their moments, reliability, and Shannon entropy are derived. Maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters is investigated. Two special models of the new family are discussed. We perform an application to a real data set to show the potentiality of the proposed family.  相似文献

Mixture models for matched pairs arise when the pair-specific parameter is assumed to be a random quantity. We explore the use of semiparametric maximum-likelihood methods for a family of mixture models for matched pairs. The geometry of mixture likelihoods provides insight into the properties of these models.  相似文献
