Recently, Rayleigh distribution has received considerable attention in the statistical literature. In this article, we consider the point and interval estimation of the functions of the unknown parameters of a two-parameter Rayleigh distribution. First, we obtain the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters. The MLEs cannot be obtained in explicit forms, and we propose to use the maximization of the profile log-likelihood function to compute the MLEs. We further consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters. The Bayes’ estimates and the associated credible intervals cannot be obtained in closed forms. We use the importance sampling technique to approximate (compute) the Bayes’ estimates and the associated credible intervals. For comparison purposes, we have also used the exact method to compute the Bayes’ estimates and the corresponding credible intervals. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the proposed method, and one dataset has been analyzed for illustrative purposes. We further consider the Bayes’ prediction problem based on the observed samples, and provide the appropriate predictive intervals. A data example has been provided for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the analysis of hybrid censored competing risks data, based on Cox's latent failure time model assumptions. It is assumed that lifetime distributions of latent causes of failure follow Weibull distribution with the same shape parameter, but different scale parameters. Maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters can be obtained by solving a one-dimensional optimization problem, and we propose a fixed-point type algorithm to solve this optimization problem. Approximate MLEs have been proposed based on Taylor series expansion, and they have explicit expressions. Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters are obtained based on the assumption that the shape parameter has a log-concave prior density function, and for the given shape parameter, the scale parameters have Beta–Gamma priors. We propose to use Markov Chain Monte Carlo samples to compute Bayes estimates and also to construct highest posterior density credible intervals. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to investigate the performances of the different estimators, and two data sets have been analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Accelerated life testing is widely used in product life testing experiments since it provides significant reduction in time and cost of testing. In this paper, assuming that the lifetime of items under use condition follow the two-parameter Pareto distribution of the second kind, partially accelerated life tests based on progressively Type-II censored samples are considered. The likelihood equations of the model parameters and the acceleration factor are reduced to a single nonlinear equation to be solved numerically to obtain the maximum-likelihood estimates (MLEs). Based on normal approximation to the asymptotic distribution of MLEs, the approximate confidence intervals (ACIs) for the parameters are derived. Two bootstrap CIs are also proposed. The classical Bayes estimates cannot be obtained in explicit form, so we propose to apply Markov chain Monte Carlo method to tackle this problem, which allows us to construct the credible interval of the involved parameters. Analysis of a simulated data set has also been presented for illustrative purposes. Finally, a Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to investigate the precision of the Bayes estimates with MLEs and to compare the performance of different corresponding CIs considered.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Bayesian analysis of competing risks data, when the data are partially complete in both time and type of failures. It is assumed that the latent cause of failures have independent Weibull distributions with the common shape parameter, but different scale parameters. When the shape parameter is known, it is assumed that the scale parameters have Beta–Gamma priors. In this case, the Bayes estimates and the associated credible intervals can be obtained in explicit forms. When the shape parameter is also unknown, it is assumed that it has a very flexible log-concave prior density functions. When the common shape parameter is unknown, the Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters and the associated credible intervals cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We propose to use Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling technique to compute Bayes estimates and also to compute associated credible intervals. We further consider the case when the covariates are also present. The analysis of two competing risks data sets, one with covariates and the other without covariates, have been performed for illustrative purposes. It is observed that the proposed model is very flexible, and the method is very easy to implement in practice.  相似文献

In this article, we deal with a two-parameter exponentiated half-logistic distribution. We consider the estimation of unknown parameters, the associated reliability function and the hazard rate function under progressive Type II censoring. Maximum likelihood estimates (M LEs) are proposed for unknown quantities. Bayes estimates are derived with respect to squared error, linex and entropy loss functions. Approximate explicit expressions for all Bayes estimates are obtained using the Lindley method. We also use importance sampling scheme to compute the Bayes estimates. Markov Chain Monte Carlo samples are further used to produce credible intervals for the unknown parameters. Asymptotic confidence intervals are constructed using the normality property of the MLEs. For comparison purposes, bootstrap-p and bootstrap-t confidence intervals are also constructed. A comprehensive numerical study is performed to compare the proposed estimates. Finally, a real-life data set is analysed to illustrate the proposed methods of estimation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider some problems of estimation and reconstruction based on middle censored competing risks data. It is assumed that the lifetime distributions of the latent failure times are independent and exponential distributed with different parameters and also that the censoring mechanism is independent. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters are obtained. We then use the asymptotic distribution of the MLEs to construct approximate confidence intervals. Based on gamma priors, Lindley's approximation method is applied to obtain the Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameters under squared error loss function. Since it is not possible to construct the credible intervals, we propose and implement the Gibbs sampling technique to construct the credible intervals. Several point reconstructors for failure time of censored units are provided. Finally, a simulation study is given by Monte-Carlo simulations to evaluate the performances of the different methods and a data set is analysed to illustrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

In reliability analysis, it is common to consider several causes, either mechanical or electrical, those are competing to fail a unit. These causes are called “competing risks.” In this paper, we consider the simple step-stress model with competing risks for failure from Weibull distribution under progressive Type-II censoring. Based on the proportional hazard model, we obtain the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the unknown parameters. The confidence intervals are derived by using the asymptotic distributions of the MLEs and bootstrap method. For comparison, we obtain the Bayesian estimates and the highest posterior density (HPD) credible intervals based on different prior distributions. Finally, their performance is discussed through simulations.  相似文献

We consider the problem of making statistical inference on unknown parameters of a lognormal distribution under the assumption that samples are progressively censored. The maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) are obtained by using the expectation-maximization algorithm. The observed and expected Fisher information matrices are provided as well. Approximate MLEs of unknown parameters are also obtained. Bayes and generalized estimates are derived under squared error loss function. We compute these estimates using Lindley's method as well as importance sampling method. Highest posterior density interval and asymptotic interval estimates are constructed for unknown parameters. A simulation study is conducted to compare proposed estimates. Further, a data set is analysed for illustrative purposes. Finally, optimal progressive censoring plans are discussed under different optimality criteria and results are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the simple step-stress model for a two-parameter exponential distribution, when both the parameters are unknown and the data are Type-II censored. It is assumed that under two different stress levels, the scale parameter only changes but the location parameter remains unchanged. It is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators do not always exist. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters whenever they exist. We provide the exact conditional distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators of the scale parameters. Since the construction of the exact confidence intervals is very difficult from the conditional distributions, we propose to use the observed Fisher Information matrix for this purpose. We have suggested to use the bootstrap method for constructing confidence intervals. Bayes estimates and associated credible intervals are obtained using the importance sampling technique. Extensive simulations are performed to compare the performances of the different confidence and credible intervals in terms of their coverage percentages and average lengths. The performances of the bootstrap confidence intervals are quite satisfactory even for small sample sizes.  相似文献

In reliability analysis, accelerated life-testing allows for gradual increment of stress levels on test units during an experiment. In a special class of accelerated life tests known as step-stress tests, the stress levels increase discretely at pre-fixed time points, and this allows the experimenter to obtain information on the parameters of the lifetime distributions more quickly than under normal operating conditions. Moreover, when a test unit fails, there are often more than one fatal cause for the failure, such as mechanical or electrical. In this article, we consider the simple step-stress model under Type-II censoring when the lifetime distributions of the different risk factors are independently exponentially distributed. Under this setup, we derive the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown mean parameters of the different causes under the assumption of a cumulative exposure model. The exact distributions of the MLEs of the parameters are then derived through the use of conditional moment generating functions. Using these exact distributions as well as the asymptotic distributions and the parametric bootstrap method, we discuss the construction of confidence intervals for the parameters and assess their performance through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we illustrate the methods of inference discussed here with an example.  相似文献

Recently, Gupta and Kundu [R.D. Gupta and D. Kundu, A new class of weighted exponential distributions, Statistics 43 (2009), pp. 621–634] have introduced a new class of weighted exponential (WE) distributions, and this can be used quite effectively to model lifetime data. In this paper, we introduce a new class of weighted Marshall–Olkin bivariate exponential distributions. This new singular distribution has univariate WE marginals. We study different properties of the proposed model. There are four parameters in this model and the maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We need to solve a four-dimensional optimization problem to compute the MLEs. One data set has been analysed for illustrative purposes and finally we propose some generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a constant stress accelerated life test terminated by a hybrid Type-I censoring at the first stress level. The model is based on a general log-location-scale lifetime distribution with mean life being a linear function of stress and with constant scale. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators (MLE) and the approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLE) of the model parameters. Approximate confidence intervals, likelihood ratio tests and two bootstrap methods are used to construct confidence intervals for the unknown parameters of the Weibull and lognormal distributions using the MLEs. Finally, a simulation study and two illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the performance of the developed inferential methods.  相似文献

A progressive hybrid censoring scheme is a mixture of type-I and type-II progressive censoring schemes. In this paper, we mainly consider the analysis of progressive type-II hybrid-censored data when the lifetime distribution of the individual item is the normal and extreme value distributions. Since the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of these parameters cannot be obtained in the closed form, we propose to use the expectation and maximization (EM) algorithm to compute the MLEs. Also, the Newton–Raphson method is used to estimate the model parameters. The asymptotic variance–covariance matrix of the MLEs under EM framework is obtained by Fisher information matrix using the missing information and asymptotic confidence intervals for the parameters are then constructed. This study will end up with comparing the two methods of estimation and the asymptotic confidence intervals of coverage probabilities corresponding to the missing information principle and the observed information matrix through a simulation study, illustrated examples and real data analysis.  相似文献

In this article, we consider dependent right censoring when the lifetime and censoring variables have a Marshall–Olkin bivariate exponential distribution and obtain MLEs, MMEs and UMVUEs of the unknown parameters. The Bayes estimators as well as the Posterior Regret Gamma Minimax (PRGM) estimators of the parameters of interest under the SEL function are also obtained and a Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to compare these estimators.  相似文献

We investigate a Bayesian inference in the three-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution which is obtained by adding a power parameter to the two-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution suggested by Chen (2000). The Bayes estimators under the balanced squared error loss function are derived for three parameters. Then, we have used Lindley's and Tierney–Kadane approximations (see Lindley 1980; Tierney and Kadane 1986) for computing these Bayes estimators. In particular, we propose the explicit form of Lindley's approximation for the model with three parameters. We also give applications with a simulated data set and two real data sets to show the use of discussed computing methods. Finally, concluding remarks are mentioned.  相似文献

Discrete lifetime data are very common in engineering and medical researches. In many cases the lifetime is censored at a random or predetermined time and we do not know the complete survival time. There are many situations that the lifetime variable could be dependent on the time of censoring. In this paper we propose the dependent right censoring scheme in discrete setup when the lifetime and censoring variables have a bivariate geometric distribution. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters with their risks in closed forms. The Bayes estimators as well as the constrained Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters under the squared error loss function are also obtained. We considered an extension to the case where covariates are present along with the data. Finally we provided a simulation study and an illustrative example with a real data.  相似文献

The article presents the Bayesian inference for the parameters of randomly censored Burr-type XII distribution with proportional hazards. The joint conjugate prior of the proposed model parameters does not exist; we consider two different systems of priors for Bayesian estimation. The explicit forms of the Bayes estimators are not possible; we use Lindley's method to obtain the Bayes estimates. However, it is not possible to obtain the Bayesian credible intervals with Lindley's method; we suggest the Gibbs sampling procedure for this purpose. Numerical experiments are performed to check the properties of the different estimators. The proposed methodology is applied to a real-life data for illustrative purposes. The Bayes estimators are compared with the Maximum likelihood estimators via numerical experiments and real data analysis. The model is validated using posterior predictive simulation in order to ascertain its appropriateness.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimation of the scale parameter of the half-logistic distribution based on a multiply type II censored sample. However, the maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) and Bayes estimator do not exist in an explicit form for the scale parameter. We consider a simple method of deriving an explicit estimator by approximating the likelihood function and discuss the asymptotic variances of MLE and approximate MLE. Also, an approximation based on the Laplace approximation (Tierney & Kadane, 1986) is used to obtain the Bayes estimator. In order to compare the MLE, approximate MLE and Bayes estimates of the scale parameter, Monte Carlo simulation is used.  相似文献

In this paper, the statistical inference of the unknown parameters of a two-parameter inverse Weibull (IW) distribution based on the progressive type-II censored sample has been considered. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) cannot be obtained in explicit forms, hence the approximate MLEs are proposed, which are in explicit forms. The Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators for the IW parameters and the reliability function based on the squared error and Linex loss functions are provided. The Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators cannot be obtained explicitly, hence Lindley's approximation is used to obtain the Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators. Furthermore, the highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters based on Gibbs sampling technique are computed, and using an optimality criterion the optimal censoring scheme has been suggested. Simulation experiments are performed to see the effectiveness of the different estimators. Finally, two data sets have been analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Inverse Gaussian distribution has been used widely as a model in analysing lifetime data. In this regard, estimation of parameters of two-parameter (IG2) and three-parameter inverse Gaussian (IG3) distributions based on complete and censored samples has been discussed in the literature. In this paper, we develop estimation methods based on progressively Type-II censored samples from IG3 distribution. In particular, we use the EM-algorithm, as well as some other numerical methods for determining the maximum-likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters. The asymptotic variances and covariances of the MLEs from the EM-algorithm are derived by using the missing information principle. We also consider some simplified alternative estimators. The inferential methods developed are then illustrated with some numerical examples. We also discuss the interval estimation of the parameters based on the large-sample theory and examine the true coverage probabilities of these confidence intervals in case of small samples by means of Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献
