Employees of the Shaanxi （in Northwest China） Women＇s Federation and lawyers with Yongjiaxin Law Firm on September 1 established the Shaanxi Women and Children＇s Rights-protection Center. It is based in the law firm＇s offices. The federation entrusted women volunteers from the law firm to receive calls from ACWF＇s hotline, 010-12338, and to provide advice to women on how they can protect their legalrights and interests.     

Guoqiao Mixian, A Local Flavor in Yunnan

YUNNAN Province, at the southwest border of China, is one of the main rice producing area in China and much of its culture is connected with the planting and consuming of rice. It also has a rich variety of local snacks. The most popular snack is guoqiao mixian (rice noodles that go across the bridge). Local people like to serve this treat to their guests and visitors from faraway lands. Mixian, a fine noodle made of rice flour, is popular in many southern regions like Hunan, Guangxi and Guangdong provinces. It looks quite similar to the common noodle, except

CCTF, Nestle Team Up to Improve Health of Newborns, Women
The China Children and Teenagers＇ Foundation （CCTF）, on April 22, 2014, received a donation of 30 million yuan （US $4.9 million） from Nestl6 China to fund a project aimed at improving the health of women and newborns in China. The donation was made in Beijing. The project, entitled ＂1,000 Days Action for Newborn and Maternal Health,＂ is intended to raise public awareness of the significance of the 1,000 days from conception to a child＇s second birthday, through various types of publicity and training. It is also intended to improve the nutrition of newborns and their mothers.     

为孩子们播撒健康与希望

The nutrition-improvement program tbr children in poverty-stricken areas has been in place since October 2012. The program was established by China＇s Ministry of Health and the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） to improve the nutrition and physical conditions of infants and toddlers in distressed areas, and to raise parents＇ knowledge about feeding infants and young children. The program provides nutritional packages, containing protein, multivitamins and mineral supplements, to infants, aged between 6 months and 2 years, to ensure the youngsters don＇t suffer from malnutrition and anemia. The program is also meant to raise the health standards of infants in poverty-stricken areas.

Riddles of Belief... and Love： A Story is aptly named for its narrator＇s struggles to find love and happiness. Hong＇er, a young Chinese woman who migrates to the United States and back to China, constantly questions the value and strength of belief and love as she experiences bitter and disappointing relationships and misfortunes.     

Anti-drug Activities Held

The China Meets Egypt activity, organized by Beijing Women＇s Federation and the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was held on October 25 in the Haidian Women and Children＇s Activity Center in Beijing. Ma Lanxia, President of Beijing Women＇s Federation （BWF）, Zhou Zhijun, BWF＇s Vice-President, Magdy Amer, Egypt＇s Ambassador to China, and Karima Nasser AI-Saadi, wife of Abdullah Saleh AI-Saadi, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to China, attended. Nearly 300 people, including students from Egypt and residents in Haidian District, participated.

A team from the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, headed by Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the NPC （National People＇s Congress） Standing Committee and President of the ACWF, from March 26-27, conducted an inspection tour in Ji＇nan （capital of East China＇s Shandong Province） to monitor the city＇s efforts to promote women-related work. During their tour, they visited Ji＇nan ＂Sunshine Sisters＂ Service Co., Ltd. and Ji＇nan Zhongqu District ＂Warmhearted Sisters＂ Service Center, both of which are well-known domestic-service organizations in China.     

空军持续19年捐助“春蕾计划”

The Air Force of China＇s People＇s Liberation Army （PLA） on December 9, 2013, donated 10 million yuan （US S1.64 million） to the Spring Bud Project. The project, established and administered by the China Children and Teenagers＇ Foundation （CCTF）, is intended to help female dropouts return to school.     

荒山里的“绿色梦”

Kejing, a town in Jiyuan, in Central China＇s Henan Province, is a mountainous area. Li Rui, a woman from the region, has dedicated her life to changing the once-barren mountain in Zaomiao, her home village （which is in the town＇s boundary）, into an oasis. During the past three decades, she and Zhu Wen, her husband, have entered into contracts to plant trees on nearly 1,000 mu （164 acres） of barren mountain land. Their persevering efforts have paid off： they have established, on the once-barren mountain, a large tree farm, and they have opened it as a resort -- to tourists.

Yinchuan, capital of Northwest China＇s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is one of China＇s important commercial cities. The city is inhabited by more than 800,000 Hui and Han women and children. Over the past several years, the Yinchuan Women＇s Federation has taken the lead in establishing women＇s organizations, such as ＂Carnation Home＂ （an organization that provides financial aid, psychological counseling and free physical checkups to single mothers）, mutual-aid groups to benefit left-behind women （whose husbands have left home to work elsewhere）,

Protecting Rural Women＇s Land-related Rights
A team from the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） on April 22 conducted an inspection tour of Southwest China＇s Sichuan Province. The team, headed by Tan Lin, Member of ACWF＇s Secretariat, monitored the province＇s efforts to protect rural women＇s legal rights and interests during the confirmation of land ownership, their right to use the land and various other rights related to land.     

Anhui Children Benefit from CCTF Charity Tour

The China Children and Teenagers＇ Fund （CCTF） organized a children＇s charity tour, in East China＇s Anhui Province, from October 26-29, 2014. According to the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, China has 61 million left-behind children, whose parents have left their hometowns to earn a better living in urban areas. To ensure the proper development of the left-behind children. ACWF and CCTF launched the ＂Safeguarding Childhood,Walking Together with Love＂ nationwide project on July 28, 2014. The project was announced ill Beijing.     

ACWF Offers Training to Providers of Services to Rural Left-behind Children

The govemment of Dianjiang County, in Southwest China＇s Chongqing Municipality, attaches great importance to caring for left-behind children＇s mental health. Over the years, the government has organized experts from Dianjiang Women＇s Federation, Dianjiang County Hospital, Dianjiang Prison and thecounty＇s education commission to study various issues associated with children＇s mental health.

Invited by the All- China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, a seven-member delegation of African ambassadors＇ spouses in China, headed by Mrs. Thibeli, wife of Anthony Rachobokoane Thibeli, Lesotho＇s ambassador to China, and head of the Group of African Ambassadors＇ Spouses in China, visited Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from July 5-7, 2010.     

全国妇联、国务院妇儿工委办公窒召开反家暴立法研讨会

The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and the National Working Committee on Children and Women （NWCCW） under the State Council plan to organize experts, who study laws and regulations, to study key and difficult issues related to the promotion of anti-domestic violence legislation. In conjunction with the 14th International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women （on November 25, 2013）, the organizations hosted a seminar to discuss anti-domestic violence legislation in Beijing. Organizers invited experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, and the Women＇s Studies Institutes of China, to ACWF＇s headquarters to discuss issues related to the promotion of anti-domestic violence legislation.     

中国首个早产儿救助基金成立

A special fund for premature babies under the China Social Welfare Education Foundation was launched in Beijing on August 8, 2010. It＇s China＇s first fund established to help premature babies. More than 20 million babies are born in China every year, 2 million of whom are premature. （Premature babies are defined as those who are born less than 37 weeks into pregnancy.） According to Ma Jianian, the fund＇s secretary-general, the fund is intended to raise awareness and promote scientific information about premature babies among women of childbearing age. It is also intended to help reduce the premature birth rate.
