Bringing Vitality to Sichuan

On April 3, 1992, the National People's Congress granted the plan to Build a grand power station at the Three Gorges area on the upper reaches of the Yangtse River, the biggest river in China. One of China's Biggest project in this century, the Three Gorges Project generated world attention since the first day of its operation.Four months later, Premier Li Peng granted the biggest supporting project to the Three Gorges Project. Aiming at exploring the rich underground deposits of natural gas and salt at Wanxian City, Sichuan Province. the Eastern Sichuan Natural Gas, Polyvinyl Chloride and Caustic Soda Project (hereafter referred tn as Eastern Sichuan Chemical Industry Project)involves an investment of 2.89 billion yuan.Xie Bangxiu, a woman with outstanding capability and Vice Mayor of Wanxian, acted as manager of this grand project.

The conference to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Safe and Healthy Growth Project, or Ankang Project, was held on November 2 in the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing. Chen Zhili, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People＇s Congress, President of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and President of the China Children and Teenagers＇ Fund （CCTF）, delivered a speech at the event.

多彩活动庆中欧建交30周年(英文)

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of EU-China diplomatic relations, the European Commission Delegation in Beijing held some special competitions this year. The painting competition with the theme of "EU and Me" was open to students of the 3,000 EU-sponsored primary schools in Gansu Province. The competition was organized by the EU Delegation, together with the Department of Education of Gansu Province and the EU-China Basic Education Project. The 10 winners were invited to Beijing, as guests of the delegation, for three days of fun including Children's Day celebrations. The Gansu Basic Education Project is jointly

1 Coring Seedlings' Project Launched“护苗工程”呵护亿万儿童A "Caring Seedlings" Project was launched in March in Beijing by the All-China Women's Federation to promote Chinese children's comprehensive de-velopment. The program focuses on nutrition, physical strength, psychological health and intellectual power. The China Children's Center was responsible for organizing and implementing the project.

Spring Bud Project Yields Fruit

The forty-five students of the "Spring Bud" class of Dalangtang Primary School, Miao Autonomous County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, finished their primary school education and graduated with excellent marks. These Miao and Yao ethnic girls, who had previously dropped out of school, were funded by the "Spring Bud Project" to continue their education several years ago. Seven girls have won the second and third prizes in the Liuzhou prefectural math contest, and three girls have won third and consolation prizes in the essay contest of soliciting of contributions with rewards for the subject of "Spring Bud Project and Me."
