This paper discusses the issue of choosing optimal designs when both blocking and foldover techniques are simultaneously employed to nonregular two-level fractional factorial designs. By using the indicator function, the treatment and block generalized wordlength patterns of the combined blocked design under a general foldover plan are defined. Some general properties of combined block designs are also obtained. Our results extend the findings of Ai et al. (2010) from regular designs to nonregular designs. Based on these theoretical results, a catalog of optimal blocking and foldover plans in terms of the generalized aberration criterion for nonregular initial design with 12, 16 and 20 runs is tabulated, respectively.  相似文献

The concept of minimum aberration has been extended to choose blocked fractional factorial designs (FFDs). The minimum aberration criterion ranks blocked FFDs according to their treatment and block wordlength patterns, which are often obtained by counting words in the treatment defining contrast subgroups and alias sets. When the number of factors is large, there are a huge number of words to be counted, causing some difficulties in computation. Based on coding theory, the concept of minimum moment aberration, proposed by Xu [Statist. Sinica, 13 (2003) 691–708] for unblocked FFDs, is extended to blocked FFDs. A method is then proposed for constructing minimum aberration blocked FFDs without using defining contrast subgroups and alias sets. Minimum aberration blocked FFDs for all 32 runs, 64 runs up to 32 factors, and all 81 runs are given with respect to three combined wordlength patterns.  相似文献

It is known by Zhang and Park (J. Statist. Plann. Inference 91 (2000) 107) that there are no minimum aberration (MA) designs with respect to both treatments and blocks for blocked regular mixed-level factorial designs. So it should be compromised between the block wordlength pattern and treatment wordlength pattern. Two methods are considered in this article. The first is MA blocking scheme of an MA design. The other is to combine the components of the two wordlength pattern vectors into one combined wordlength pattern according to the modified hierarchical assumptions and an appropriate ordering of the numbers of alias or confounding relations. The relationship between the two types of optimal blocked designs is investigated. A complete catalogue of optimal blocked regular mixed factorial designs of the above two types with 16 or 32 runs is given.  相似文献

The authors introduce the notion of split generalized wordlength pattern (GWP), i.e., treatment GWP and block GWP, for a blocked nonregular factorial design. They generalize the minimum aberration criterion to suit this type of design. Connections between factorial design theory and coding theory allow them to obtain combinatorial identities that govern the relationship between the split GWP of a blocked factorial design and that of its blocked consulting design. These identities work for regular and nonregular designs. Furthermore, the authors establish general rules for identifying generalized minimum aberration (GMA) blocked designs through their blocked consulting designs. Finally they tabulate and compare some GMA blocked designs from Hall's orthogonal array OA(16,215,2) of type III.  相似文献

It is well known that many industrial experiments have split‐plot structures. Compared to completely randomised experiments, split‐plot designs are more economical and thus have received much attention among researchers. Much work has been done for two‐level split‐plot designs. In this article, we consider split‐plot designs with factors of three, more than three, or mixed levels and with both qualitative and quantitative factors. We show that if two designs with both qualitative and quantitative factors are geometrically isomorphic, then their generalised wordlength patterns are identical. Three design scenarios are considered for optimal designs. The corresponding wordlength patterns are defined and the minimum aberration mixed‐level split‐plot designs having 18 and 36 runs are tabulated.  相似文献

In practice, to reduce systematic variation and increase precision of effect estimation, a practical design strategy is then to partition the experimental units into homogeneous groups, known as blocks. It is an important issue to study the optimal way on blocking the experimental units. Blocked general minimum lower order confounding (B1-GMC) is a new criterion for selecting optimal block designs. The paper considers the construction of optimal two-level block designs with respect to the B1-GMC criterion. By utilizing doubling theory and MaxC2 design, some optimal block designs with respect to the B1-GMC criterion are obtained.  相似文献

There are two different systems of contrast parameterization when analyzing the interaction effects among the factors with more than two levels, i.e., linear-quadratic system and orthogonal components system. Based on the former system and an ANOVA model, Xu and Wu (2001) introduced the generalized wordlength pattern for general factorial designs. This paper shows that the generalized wordlength pattern exactly measures the balance pattern of interaction columns of a symmetrical design ground on the orthogonal components system, and thus an alternative angle to look at the generalized minimum aberration criterion is given. The problem considered is to find optimum designs for treatment effects in a block design (BD) setup, when positional effects are also present besides treatment and block effects, but they are ignored while formulating the model. In the class of symmetric balanced incomplete block designs, the Youden square design is shown to be optimal in the sense of minimizing the bias term in the mean squared error (MSE) of the best linear unbiased estimators of the full set of orthonormal treatment contrasts, irrespective of the value of the positional effects.  相似文献

Minimax optimal experimental designs are notoriously difficult to study largely because the optimality criterion is not differentiable and there is no effective algorithm for generating them. We apply semi-infinite programming (SIP) to solve minimax design problems for nonlinear models in a systematic way using a discretization based strategy and solvers from the General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS). Using popular models from the biological sciences, we show our approach produces minimax optimal designs that coincide with the few theoretical and numerical optimal designs in the literature. We also show our method can be readily modified to find standardized maximin optimal designs and minimax optimal designs for more complicated problems, such as when the ranges of plausible values for the model parameters are dependent and we want to find a design to minimize the maximal inefficiency of estimates for the model parameters.  相似文献

The confounding and aliasing scheme for fractional factorial split-plot designs with the units within each wholeplot arranged in rows and columns is described and illustrated. Isomorphism for this design type is described, together with a procedure which considers extensions of the concepts of wordlength patterns and letter patterns that can be used to test isomorphism between designs. Using in part this isomorphism testing procedure, a construction algorithm that may be used to obtain a complete set of such non-isomorphic two-level designs is described. Software based on this construction algorithm was used to obtain a complete set of non-isomorphic designs for up to five wholeplot factors, five subplot factors and up to 64 runs, which is presented as a table of designs. To aid the experimenter in distinguishing between competing designs, the estimation capacity sequence for each design is presented.  相似文献

We investigate Bayesian optimal designs for changepoint problems. We find robust optimal designs which allow for arbitrary distributions before and after the change, arbitrary prior densities on the parameters before and after the change, and any log‐concave prior density on the changepoint. We define a new design measure for Bayesian optimal design problems as a means of finding the optimal design. Our results apply to any design criterion function concave in the design measure. We illustrate our results by finding the optimal design in a problem motivated by a previous clinical trial. This paper presents an algorithm for the construction of optimal or near optimal change-over designs for arbitrary numbers of treatments, periods and units. Previous research on optimality has been either theoretical or has resulted in limited tabulations of small optimal designs. The algorithm consists of a number of steps:first find an optimal direct treatment effects design, ignoring residual effects, and then optimise this class of designs with respect to residual effects. Poor designs are avoided by judicious application of the (M, S)-optimality criterion, and modifications of it, to appropriate matrices. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated by examples.  相似文献

A D-optimal minimax design criterion is proposed to construct two-level fractional factorial designs, which can be used to estimate a linear model with main effects and some specified interactions. D-optimal minimax designs are robust against model misspecification and have small biases if the linear model contains more interaction terms. When the D-optimal minimax criterion is compared with the D-optimal design criterion, we find that the D-optimal design criterion is quite robust against model misspecification. Lower and upper bounds derived for the loss functions of optimal designs can be used to estimate the efficiencies of any design and evaluate the effectiveness of a search algorithm. Four algorithms to search for optimal designs for any run size are discussed and compared through several examples. An annealing algorithm and a sequential algorithm are particularly effective to search for optimal designs.  相似文献

A new design criterion based on the condition number of an information matrix is proposed to construct optimal designs for linear models, and the resulting designs are called K-optimal designs. The relationship between exact and asymptotic K-optimal designs is derived. Since it is usually hard to find exact optimal designs analytically, we apply a simulated annealing algorithm to compute K-optimal design points on continuous design spaces. Specific issues are addressed to make the algorithm effective. Through exact designs, we can examine some properties of the K-optimal designs such as symmetry and the number of support points. Examples and results are given for polynomial regression models and linear models for fractional factorial experiments. In addition, K-optimal designs are compared with A-optimal and D-optimal designs for polynomial regression models, showing that K-optimal designs are quite similar to A-optimal designs.  相似文献

We briefly review and discuss design issues for population growth and decline models. We then use a flexible growth and decline model as an illustrative example and apply optimal design theory to find optimal sampling times for estimating model parameters, specific parameters and interesting functions of the model parameters for the model with two real applications. Robustness properties of the optimal designs are investigated when nominal values or the model is mis-specified, and also under a different optimality criterion. To facilitate use of optimal design ideas in practice, we also introduce a website for generating a variety of optimal designs for popular models from different disciplines.  相似文献

Here, the optimality of block design with interference effect from neighboring unit under a general non additive model is investigated, which allows for the presence of interactions among the treatments applied in the adjacent plots. A non additive model with interference × direct effects of treatments is considered as these effects contribute significantly to the response. A class of complete block designs balanced for interference effects from left neighboring unit is shown to be universally optimal for the estimation of direct and interference effects of treatments and two such series of designs have been constructed. Furthermore, considering direct treatment × block non additivity with interference effects, the optimality is studied and the optimal designs are obtained.  相似文献

A partially balanced nested row-column design, referred to as PBNRC, is defined as an arrangement of v treatments in b p × q blocks for which, with the convention that p q, the information matrix for the estimation of treatment parameters is equal to that of the column component design which is itself a partially balanced incomplete block design. In this paper, previously known optimal incomplete block designs, and row-column and nested row-column designs are utilized to develop some methods of constructing optimal PBNRC designs. In particular, it is shown that an optimal group divisible PBNRC design for v = mn kn treatments in p × q blocks can be constructed whenever a balanced incomplete block design for m treatments in blocks of size k each and a group divisible PBNRC design for kn treatments in p × q blocks exist. A simple sufficient condition is given under which a group divisible PBNRC is Ψf-better for all f> 0 than the corresponding balanced nested row-column designs having binary blocks. It is also shown that the construction techniques developed particularly for group divisible designs can be generalized to obtain PBNRC designs based on rectangular association schemes.  相似文献

Latin squares have been widely used to design an experiment where the blocking factors and treatment factors have the same number of levels. For some experiments, the size of blocks may be less than the number of treatments. Since not all the treatments can be compared within each block, a new class of designs called balanced incomplete Latin squares (BILS) is proposed. A general method for constructing BILS is proposed by an intelligent selection of certain cells from a complete Latin square via orthogonal Latin squares. The optimality of the proposed BILS designs is investigated. It is shown that the proposed transversal BILS designs are asymptotically optimal for all the row, column and treatment effects. The relative efficiencies of a delete-one-transversal BILS design with respect to the optimal designs for both cases are also derived; it is shown to be close to 100%, as the order becomes large.  相似文献

Competition or interference occurs when the responses to treatments in experimental units are affected by the treatments in neighbouring units. This may contribute to variability in experimental results and lead to substantial losses in efficiency. The study of a competing situation needs designs in which the competing units appear in a predetermined pattern. This paper deals with optimality aspects of circular block designs for studying the competition among treatments applied to neighbouring experimental units. The model considered is a four-way classified model consisting of direct effect of the treatment applied to a particular plot, the effect of those treatments applied to the immediate left and right neighbouring units and the block effect. Conditions have been obtained for the block design to be universally optimal for estimating direct and neighbour effects. Some classes of balanced and strongly balanced complete block designs have been identified to be universally optimal for the estimation of direct, left and right neighbour effects and a list of universally optimal designs for v<20 and r<100 has been prepared.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

For experiments running in field plots or over time, the observations are often correlated due to spatial or serial correlation, which leads to correlated errors in a linear model analyzing the treatment means. Without knowing the exact correlation matrix of the errors, it is not possible to compute the generalized least-squares estimator for the treatment means and use it to construct optimal designs for the experiments. In this paper, we propose to use neighborhoods to model the covariance matrix of the errors, and apply a modified generalized least-squares estimator to construct robust designs for experiments with blocks. A minimax design criterion is investigated, and a simulated annealing algorithm is developed to find robust designs. We have derived several theoretical results, and representative examples are presented.  相似文献
