In this research article, we estimate the multicomponent stress–strength reliability of a system when strength and stress variates are drawn from an exponentiated Weibull distribution with different shape parameters α?and?β, and common shape and scale parameters γ and λ, respectively. We estimate the parameters by using maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and hence the estimate of reliability obtained applying the MLE method of estimation when samples are drawn from stress and strength distributions. The small sample comparison of the reliability estimates is made through Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

By combining the progressive hybrid censoring with the step-stress partially accelerated lifetime test, we propose an adaptive step-stress partially accelerated lifetime test, which allows random changing of the number of step-stress levels according to the pre-fixed censoring number and time points. Thus, the time expenditure and economic cost of the test will be reduced greatly. Based on the Lindley-distributed tampered failure rate (TFR) model with masked system lifetime data, the BFGS method is introduced in the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm to obtain the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), which overcomes the difficulties of the vague maximization procedure in the M-step. Asymptotic confidence intervals of components' distribution parameters are also investigated according to the missing information principle. As comparison, the Bayesian estimation and the highest probability density (HPD) credible intervals are obtained by using adaptive rejection sampling. Furthermore, the reliability of the system and components are estimated at a specified time under usual and severe operating conditions. Finally, a numerical simulation example is presented to illustrate the performance of our proposed method.  相似文献

This paper considers the estimation of “structural” parameters when the number of unknown parameters increases with the sample size. Neyman and Scott (1948) had demonstrated that maximum likelihood estimators (MLE) of structural parameters may be inconsistent in this case. Patefield (1977) further observed that the asymptotic covariance matrix of the MLE is not equal to the inverse of the information matrix. In this paper we establish asymptotic properties of estimators (which include in particular the MLE) obtained via the usual likelihood approach when the incidental parameters are first replaced by their estimates (which are allowed to depend on the structural parameters). Conditions for consistency and asymptotic normality together with a proper formula for the asymptotic covariance matrix are given. The results are illustrated and applied to the problem of estimating linear functional relationships, and mild conditions on the incidental parameters for the MLE (or an adjusted MLE) to be consistent and asymptotically normal are obtained. These conditions are weaker than those imposed by previous authors.  相似文献

We will discuss the reliability analysis of the constant stress accelerated life test on a series system connected with multiple components under independent Weibull lifetime distributions whose scale parameters are log-linear in the level of the stress variable. The system lifetimes are collected under Type I censoring but the components that cause the systems to fail may or may not be observed. The data are so called masked for the latter case. Maximum likelihood approach and the Bayesian method are considered when the data are masked. Statistical inference on the estimation of the underlying model parameters as well as the mean time to failure and the reliability function will be addressed. Simulation study for a three-component case shows that Bayesian analysis outperforms the maximum likelihood approach especially when the data are highly masked.  相似文献

In this paper, based on progressively Type-II censored samples, the problem of estimation of multicomponent stress–strength reliability under generalized half-normal (GHN) distribution is considered. The reliability of a k-component stress-strength system is estimated when both stress and strength variates are assumed to have a GHN distribution with various cases of same and different shape and scale parameters. Different methods such as the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) and Bayes estimation are discussed. The expectation maximization algorithm and approximate maximum likelihood methods are proposed to compute the MLE of reliability. The Lindley's approximation method, as well as Metropolis–Hastings algorithm, are applied to compute Bayes estimates. The performance of the proposed procedures is also demonstrated via a Monte Carlo simulation study and an illustrative example.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a constant stress accelerated life test terminated by a hybrid Type-I censoring at the first stress level. The model is based on a general log-location-scale lifetime distribution with mean life being a linear function of stress and with constant scale. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators (MLE) and the approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLE) of the model parameters. Approximate confidence intervals, likelihood ratio tests and two bootstrap methods are used to construct confidence intervals for the unknown parameters of the Weibull and lognormal distributions using the MLEs. Finally, a simulation study and two illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the performance of the developed inferential methods.  相似文献

This paper develops a method for estimating the parameters of a vector autoregression (VAR) observed in white noise. The estimation method assumes that the noise variance matrix is known and does not require any iterative process. This study provides consistent estimators and the asymptotic distribution of the parameters required for conducting tests of Granger causality. Methods in the existing statistical literature cannot be used for testing Granger causality, since under the null hypothesis the model becomes unidentifiable. Measurement error effects on parameter estimates were evaluated by using computational simulations. The results suggest that the proposed approach produces empirical false positive rates close to the adopted nominal level (even for small samples) and has a satisfactory performance around the null hypothesis. The applicability and usefulness of the proposed approach are illustrated using a functional magnetic resonance imaging dataset.  相似文献

Failures of highly reliable units are rare and it may be not possible to gather the failure time data needed for reliability estimation. One way of obtaining failures during the time given for experiments is to apply methods of accelerated life testing (ALT). In ALT units are tested at higher than usual (design) stress conditions. The purpose is to give estimators of the main reliability characteristics of units functioning under the usual stress using data of accelerated experiments. To treat such data accelerated life models are used. Here we consider special plans of experiments and the statistical analysis of the ALT data by numerical methods and simulation using the changing shape and scale (CHSS) model proposed by Bagdonavičius and Nikulin (1999). The CHSS model is a natural extension of the standard accelerated failure time (AFT) model. We give parametric and semiparametric estimation procedures for the CHSS model and a goodness-of-fit test for the AFT model.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the statistical inference for the success probability in the case of start-up demonstration tests in which rejection of units is possible when a pre-fixed number of failures is observed before the required number of consecutive successes are achieved for acceptance of the unit. Since the expected value of the stopping time is not a monotone function of the unknown parameter, the method of moments is not useful in this situation. Therefore, we discuss two estimation methods for the success probability: (1) the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) via the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm and (2) Bayesian estimation with a beta prior. We examine the small-sample properties of the MLE and Bayesian estimator. Finally, we present an example to illustrate the method of inference discussed here.  相似文献

In this article, we take a brief overview of different functional forms of generalized Poisson distribution (GPD) and various methods of its parameter estimation found in the literature. We compare the method of moment estimation (ME) and maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) of parameters of GPD through simulation study in terms of bias, MSE and covariance. To simulate random numbers from GPD, we develop a Matlab function gpoissrnd(). The simulation study leads to the important conclusion that the ME performs better or equally good as compared to MLE when sample size is small.

Further we fit the GPD to various datasets in literature using both estimation methods and observe that the results do not differ significantly even though the sample size is large. Overall, we conclude that for GPD, use of ME in place of MLE will lead to almost similar results. The computational simplicity in calculation of ME as compared to MLE also gives support to the use of ME in case of GPD for practitioners.  相似文献

Weibull distributions have received wide ranging applications in many areas including reliability, hydrology and communication systems. Many estimation methods have been proposed for Weibull distributions. But there has not been a comprehensive comparison of these estimation methods. Most studies have focused on comparing the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) with one of the other approaches. In this paper, we first propose an L-moment estimator for the Weibull distribution. Then, a comprehensive comparison is made of the following methods: the method of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), the method of logarithmic moments, the percentile method, the method of moments and the method of L-moments.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the problem of estimating reliability (R) of a component based on maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs). The reliability of a component is given byR=P[Y<X]. Here X is a random strength of a component subjected to a random stress(Y) and (X,Y) follow a bivariate pareto(BVP) distribution. We obtain an asymptotic normal(AN) distribution of MLE of the reliability(R).  相似文献

Based on a multiply type-II censored sample, the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and Bayes estimator for the scale parameter and the reliability function of the Rayleigh distribution are derived. However, since the MLE does not exist an explicit form, an approximate MLE which is the maximizer of an approximate likelihood function will be given. The comparisons among estimators are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations. An illustrative example with the real data concerning the 23 ball bearing in the life test is presented.  相似文献

In this article, a new three-parameter extension of the two-parameter log-logistic distribution is introduced. Several distributional properties such as moment-generating function, quantile function, mean residual lifetime, the Renyi and Shanon entropies, and order statistics are considered. The estimation of the model parameters for complete and right-censored cases is investigated competently by maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). A simulation study is conducted to show that these MLEs are consistent in moderate samples. Two real datasets are considered; one is a right-censored data to show that the proposed model has a superior performance over several existing popular models.  相似文献

Abstract

In the case where strength and stress both follow exponential distributions, this paper considers the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the system reliability based on L ranked set sampling (LRSS). The proposed MLE is shown to have existence, uniqueness and asymptotic normality, and its asymptotic variance is obtained by the Fisher information matrix of LRSS. The values of asymptotic relative efficiencies show that the proposed MLE is always more efficient than the MLE using simple random sampling (SRS). However, the MLE using LRSS cannot be written in closed form. Therefore, the modified MLE is proposed using the technique replaced some terms in the maximum likelihood equations by their expectations. The newly modified MLE using LRSS is shown to be superior to the MLE using SRS. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a real data set on metastatic renal carcinoma study.  相似文献

New recursive algorithms for fast computation of the normalizing constant for the autologistic model on the lattice make feasible a sample-based maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) of the autologistic parameters. We demonstrate by sampling from 12 simulated 420×420 binary lattices with square lattice plots of size 4×4, …, 7×7 and sample sizes between 20 and 600. Sample-based results are compared with ‘benchmark’ MCMC estimates derived from all binary observations on a lattice. Sample-based estimates are, on average, biased systematically by 3%–7%, a bias that can be reduced by more than half by a set of calibrating equations. MLE estimates of sampling variances are large and usually conservative. The variance of the parameter of spatial association is about 2–10 times higher than the variance of the parameter of abundance. Sample distributions of estimates were mostly non-normal. We conclude that sample-based MLE estimation of the autologistic parameters with an appropriate sample size and post-estimation calibration will furnish fully acceptable estimates. Equations for predicting the expected sampling variance are given.  相似文献

In many industrial and natural phenomena, we need the probability that a component is smaller than the other component. Under a stress–strength model, this is reliability of an item. Under independent setup, there are different approaches for the estimation of such reliability. Here, estimation is considered under the dependent case. Under bi-variate setup uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator is obtained. Also comparison with available estimator based on Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) is done through Mean Square Error (MSE) and bias. Also these are compared by computing L1 distance between their distribution functions. From this idea and numerical computations, UMVUE appears to be good.  相似文献

This article presents a design approach for sequential constant-stress accelerated life tests (ALT) with an auxiliary acceleration factor (AAF). The use of an AAF, if it exists, is to further amplify the failure probability of highly reliability testing items at low stress levels while maintaining an acceptable degree of extrapolation for reliability inference. Based on a Bayesian design criterion, the optimal plan optimizes the sample allocation, stress combination, as well as the loading profile of the AAF. In particular, a step-stress loading profile based on an appropriate cumulative exposure (CE) model is chosen for the AAF such that the initial auxiliary stress will not be too harsh. A case study, providing the motivation and practical importance of our study, is presented to illustrate the proposed planning approach.  相似文献

In this paper, a generalization of inverted exponential distribution is considered as a lifetime model [A.M. Abouammoh and A.M. Alshingiti, Reliability estimation of generalized inverted exponential distribution, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 79(11) (2009), pp. 1301–1315]. Its reliability characteristics and important distributional properties are discussed. Maximum likelihood estimation of the two parameters involved along with reliability and failure rate functions are derived. The method of least square estimation of parameters is also studied here. In view of cost and time constraints, type II progressively right censored sampling scheme has been used. For illustration of the performance of the estimates, a Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out. Finally, a real data example is given to show the practical applications of the paper.  相似文献

This article investigates the effect of estimation of unknown degrees of freedom on efficient estimation of remaining parameters in Spanos’ conditional t heteroskedastic model. We compare by simulation three maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the remaining parameters in the model: the MLE of the remaining parameters when all the parameters are estimated by the MLE, when the degrees of freedom is estimated by a method of moments estimator, and when the degrees of freedom is erroneously specified. The latter two methods are found to perform poorly compared to the former method for the inference of variance parameters in the model. Thus, efficient estimation of degrees of freedom by the MLE is important to estimate efficiently the remaining variance parameters.  相似文献
