A- and MV-optimal block designs are identified in the class of minimally connected designs when the observations within blocks are spatially correlated. All connected designs are shown to be D-equal regardless of the correlation structure, and a sufficient condition for E-optimality is presented. Earlier results for the uncorrelated case are strengthened.  相似文献

A supersaturated design (SSD) is a design whose run size is not enough for estimating all the main effects. The goal in conducting such a design is to identify, presumably only a few, relatively dominant active effects with a cost as low as possible. However, data analysis of such designs remains primitive: traditional approaches are not appropriate in such a situation and several methods which were proposed in the literature in recent years are effective when used to analyze two-level SSDs. In this paper, we introduce a variable selection procedure, called the PLSVS method, to screen active effects in mixed-level SSDs based on the variable importance in projection which is an important concept in the partial least-squares regression. Simulation studies show that this procedure is effective.  相似文献

The use of covariates in block designs is necessary when the covariates cannot be controlled like the blocking factor in the experiment. In this paper, we consider the situation where there is some flexibility for selection in the values of the covariates. The choice of values of the covariates for a given block design attaining minimum variance for estimation of each of the parameters has attracted attention in recent times. Optimum covariate designs in simple set-ups such as completely randomised design (CRD), randomised block design (RBD) and some series of balanced incomplete block design (BIBD) have already been considered. In this paper, optimum covariate designs have been considered for the more complex set-ups of different partially balanced incomplete block (PBIB) designs, which are popular among practitioners. The optimum covariate designs depend much on the methods of construction of the basic PBIB designs. Different combinatorial arrangements and tools such as orthogonal arrays, Hadamard matrices and different kinds of products of matrices viz. Khatri–Rao product, Kronecker product have been conveniently used to construct optimum covariate designs with as many covariates as possible.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs (SSDs) offer a potentially useful way to investigate many factors with only few experiments in the preliminary stages of experimentation. This paper explores how to construct E(fNOD)E(fNOD)-optimal mixed-level SSDs using k-cyclic generators. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of mixed-level k-circulant SSDs with the equal occurrence property are provided. Properties of the mixed-level k  -circulant SSDs are investigated, in particular, the sufficient condition under which the generator vector produces an E(fNOD)E(fNOD)-optimal SSD is obtained. Moreover, many new E(fNOD)E(fNOD)-optimal mixed-level SSDs are constructed and listed. The method here generalizes the one proposed by Liu and Dean [2004. kk-circulant supersaturated designs. Properties of abelian groups are used to unify the construction of cyclic and generalized cyclic designs. Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the generation of fractional sets of blocks, and also for the generation of resolvable designs. We consider the construction of designs for the extrapolation of a regression response to one point outside of the design space. The response function is an only approximately known function of a specified linear function. As well, we allow for variance heterogeneity. We find minimax designs and corresponding optimal regression weights in the context of the following problems: (P1) for nonlinear least squares estimation with homoscedasticity, determine a design to minimize the maximum value of the mean squared extrapolation error (MSEE), with the maximum being evaluated over the possible departures from the response function; (P2) for nonlinear least squares estimation with heteroscedasticity, determine a design to minimize the maximum value of MSEE, with the maximum being evaluated over both types of departures; (P3) for nonlinear weighted least squares estimation, determine both weights and a design to minimize the maximum MSEE; (P4) choose weights and design points to minimize the maximum MSEE, subject to a side condition of unbiasedness. Solutions to (P1)–(P4) are given in complete generality. Numerical comparisons indicate that our designs and weights perform well in combining robustness and efficiency. Applications to accelerated life testing are highlighted.  相似文献

We develop criteria that generate robust designs and use such criteria for the construction of designs that insure against possible misspecifications in logistic regression models. The design criteria we propose are different from the classical in that we do not focus on sampling error alone. Instead we use design criteria that account as well for error due to bias engendered by the model misspecification. Our robust designs optimize the average of a function of the sampling error and bias error over a specified misspecification neighbourhood. Examples of robust designs for logistic models are presented, including a case study implementing the methodologies using beetle mortality data.  相似文献

In this paper we present the construction of robust designs for a possibly misspecified generalized linear regression model when the data are censored. The minimax designs and unbiased designs are found for maximum likelihood estimation in the context of both prediction and extrapolation problems. This paper extends preceding work of robust designs for complete data by incorporating censoring and maximum likelihood estimation. It also broadens former work of robust designs for censored data from others by considering both nonlinearity and much more arbitrary uncertainty in the fitted regression response and by dropping all restrictions on the structure of the regressors. Solutions are derived by a nonsmooth optimization technique analytically and given in full generality. A typical example in accelerated life testing is also demonstrated. We also investigate implementation schemes which are utilized to approximate a robust design having a density. Some exact designs are obtained using an optimal implementation scheme.  相似文献

A multi-arm response-adaptive allocation design is developed for circular treatment outcomes. Several exact and asymptotic properties of the design are studied. Stage-wise treatment selection procedures based on the proposed response-adaptive design are also suggested to exclude the worse performing treatment(s) at earlier stages. Detailed simulation study is carried out to evaluate the proposed selection procedures. The applicability of the proposed methodologies is illustrated through a real clinical trial data on cataract surgery.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the statistical analysis of multivariate multiple nonlinear regression models with correlated errors, using Finite Fourier Transforms. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the weighted least squares estimates are established under various conditions on the regressor variables. These conditions involve different types of scalings, and the scaling factors are obtained explicitly for various types of nonlinear regression models including an interesting model which requires the estimation of unknown frequencies. The estimation of frequencies is a classical problem occurring in many areas like signal processing, environmental time series, astronomy and other areas of physical sciences. We illustrate our methodology using two real data sets taken from geophysics and environmental sciences. The data we consider from geophysics are polar motion (which is now widely known as “Chandlers Wobble”), where one has to estimate the drift parameters, the offset parameters and the two periodicities associated with elliptical motion. The data were first analyzed by Arato, Kolmogorov and Sinai who treat it as a bivariate time series satisfying a finite order time series model. They estimate the periodicities using the coefficients of the fitted models. Our analysis shows that the two dominant frequencies are 12 h and 410 days. The second example, we consider is the minimum/maximum monthly temperatures observed at the Antarctic Peninsula (Faraday/Vernadsky station). It is now widely believed that over the past 50 years there is a steady warming in this region, and if this is true, the warming has serious consequences on ecology, marine life, etc. as it can result in melting of ice shelves and glaciers. Our objective here is to estimate any existing temperature trend in the data, and we use the nonlinear regression methodology developed here to achieve that goal.  相似文献

A supersaturated design is a design whose run size is not enough for estimating all the main effects. It is commonly used in screening experiments, where the goals are to identify sparse and dominant active factors with low cost. In this paper, we study a variable selection method via the Dantzig selector, proposed by Candes and Tao [2007. The Dantzig selector: statistical estimation when pp is much larger than nn. Annals of Statistics 35, 2313–2351], to screen important effects. A graphical procedure and an automated procedure are suggested to accompany with the method. Simulation shows that this method performs well compared to existing methods in the literature and is more efficient at estimating the model size.  相似文献

In a screening design, often only a few factors among a large number of potential factors are significantly important. Usually, it is not known which factors will be important ones. Thus, it is of practical interest to know if each projection of a design onto a small subset of factors is able to entertain and estimate all two-factor-interactions along with its main effects, assuming higher order interactions are negligible. In this paper, we investigate the estimation capacity of projections of Hadamard designs with run size up to 60. Possible applications of our results to robust parameter designs are also discussed.  相似文献

We consider the comparison of mean vectors for k groups when k is large and sample size per group is fixed. The asymptotic null and non-null distributions of the normal theory likelihood ratio, Lawley–Hotelling and Bartlett–Nanda–Pillai statistics are derived under general conditions. We extend the results to tests on the profiles of the mean vectors, tests for additional information (provided by a sub-vector of the responses over and beyond the remaining sub-vector of responses in separating the groups) and tests on the dimension of the hyperplane formed by the mean vectors. Our techniques are based on perturbation expansions and limit theorems applied to independent but non-identically distributed sequences of quadratic forms in random matrices. In all these four MANOVA problems, the asymptotic null and non-null distributions are normal. Both the null and non-null distributions are asymptotically invariant to non-normality when the group sample sizes are equal. In the unbalanced case, a slight modification of the test statistics will lead to asymptotically robust tests. Based on the robustness results, some approaches for finite approximation are introduced. The numerical results provide strong support for the asymptotic results and finiteness approximations.  相似文献

One classical design criterion is to minimize the determinant of the covariance matrix of the regression estimates, and the designs are called D-optimal designs. To reflect the nature that the proposed models are only approximately true, we propose a robust design criterion to study response surface designs. Both the variance and bias are considered in the criterion. In particular, D-optimal minimax designs are investigated and constructed. In this article we investigate the problem of ascertaining A- and D-optimal designs in a cubic regression model with random coefficients. Our interest lies in estimation of all the parameters or in only those except the intercept term. Assuming the variance ratios to be known, we tabulate D-optimal designs for various combinations of the variance ratios. A-optimality does not pose any new problem in the random coefficients situation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the prediction problem in multiple linear regression model in which the number of predictor variables, p, is extremely large compared to the number of available observations, n  . The least-squares predictor based on a generalized inverse is not efficient. We propose six empirical Bayes estimators of the regression parameters. Three of them are shown to have uniformly lower prediction error than the least-squares predictors when the vector of regressor variables are assumed to be random with mean vector zero and the covariance matrix (1/n)XtX(1/n)XtX where Xt=(x1,…,xn)Xt=(x1,,xn) is the p×np×n matrix of observations on the regressor vector centered from their sample means. For other estimators, we use simulation to show its superiority over the least-squares predictor.  相似文献
