Research on Health Status and Health Care of the Elderly in China

The issue of health status and care for the elderly in urban and rural areas is becoming increasingly serious in the rapid context of population aging in China.The paper analyzed the health status of urban and rural elderly in China in the two-week morbidity rate,prevalence rate of chronic diseases, disability status,self-rated health and healthy life expectancy of the elderly using the data from the 2006 Sampling Survey on the Status of Urban/ Rural Aged Population in China,the Fourth National Health Service Survey and the 2006 Second China National Sample Survey on Disability,to explore the current provision of sources of care for the elderly and try to make some policy recommendations about to improve the health and care for the elderly population facing the crisis of population aging.

Health of Chinese Students A Great Concern

Despite improving health conditions of Chinese students aged 7-22 on the whole in recent years, some problems still exist. These include increasing obesity, a high rate of nearsightedness, weakening physical and vital capacities and a low level of health care for rural students. The Current Status of Health Literacy in China

The overall level of health literacy(HL) in China in 2013 stood at 9.48%,contrasting the rural level of 6.92%with theurban level of 13.80%.The level of HL in Eastern China was 12.81%,while it was 6.93%in West China and 7.10%in Central China Region.The level of HL for female was 9.73%,higher than the male level of9.23%.In addition,the HL rates of health knowledge and concept,health skills,and health life-style and behaviors was 20.42%,12.47%and 10.62%respectively.The HL rates of chronic diseases prevention,infectious diseases prevention,basic medical care,afety and first aid,scientific healthconcept,and health information was respectively11.59%,17.12%,8.30%,43.53%,32.12%and 18.46%.The results suggest that the level of health literacy of Chinese urban and rural residents is low,but still differs substantially across different areas and sub-populations.

Study on Time Expectancy of Care for Daily Living of Chinese Elderly

According to the data of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS)and applyin g methods of Sullivan and multistate life table,this paper examines the time expectancy of care for daily living of Chinese elderly and its proportion in their elderly life.The results find that there exists a signifi cant gender gap of the expectancy,which the male at 65averagely are expected to have four to five care years while the female at 65averagely are expected to have seven to eight care years.The time expectancy for slight care of daily living is longer than that for sever care.Additionally,there is no significant difference between urban elderly and rural elderly.However,as age increases,the time expectancy for slight care goes down while that for sever care stabilities at a constant at different ages.The time expectancy for different types of care and its proportion in the rest of life are significantly various.The study points out that the establishment and improvement of care insurance system and the elderly care service are very necessary.
