In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions whose marginals are beta-generated distributions. Copulas are employed to construct this bivariate extension of the beta-generated distributions. It is shown that when Archimedean copulas and convex beta generators are used in generating bivariate distributions, the copulas of the resulting distributions also belong to the Archimedean family. The dependence of the proposed bivariate distributions is examined. Simulation results for beta generators and an application to financial risk management are presented.  相似文献

New Polya and inverse Polya distributions of order k are derived by means of generalized urn models and by compounding the binomial and negative binomial distributions of order k of Philippou (1986, 1983) with the beta distribution. It i s noted that the present Polpa distribution of order k includes as special cases a new hypergeometric distribution of order k, a negative one,an inverse one, and a discrete uniform of the same order. The probability generating functions, means and variances of the new distributions are obtained, and five asymptotic results are established relating them to the abovedmentioned binomial and negative binomial distributions of order k, and to the Poisson distribution of the same order of Philippou (1983).Moment estimates are also given and applications are indicated.  相似文献

For the first time, a new five-parameter distribution, called the beta generalized gamma distribution, is introduced and studied. It contains at least 25 special sub-models such as the beta gamma, beta Weibull, beta exponential, generalized gamma (GG), Weibull and gamma distributions and thus could be a better model for analysing positive skewed data. The new density function can be expressed as a linear combination of GG densities. We derive explicit expressions for moments, generating function and other statistical measures. The elements of the expected information matrix are provided. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of a real data set.  相似文献

Grouped data are commonly encountered in applications. All data from a continuous population are grouped due to rounding of the individual observations. The Bernstein polynomial model is proposed as an approximate model in this paper for estimating a univariate density function based on grouped data. The coefficients of the Bernstein polynomial, as the mixture proportions of beta distributions, can be estimated using an EM algorithm. The optimal degree of the Bernstein polynomial can be determined using a change-point estimation method. The rate of convergence of the proposed density estimate to the true density is proved to be almost parametric by an acceptance–rejection argument used for generating random numbers. The proposed method is compared with some existing methods in a simulation study and is applied to the Chicken Embryo Data.  相似文献

A prevalence of heavy-tailed, peaked and skewed uncertainty phenomena have been cited in literature dealing with economic, physics, and engineering data. This fact has invigorated the search for continuous distributions of this nature. In this paper we shall generalize the two-sided framework presented in Kotz and van Dorp (Beyond beta: other continuous families of distributions with bounded support and applications. World Scientific Press, Singapore, 2004) for the construction of families of distributions with bounded support via a mixture technique utilizing two generating densities instead of one. The family of Elevated Two-Sided Power (ETSP) distributions is studied as an instance of this generalized framework. Through a moment ratio diagram comparison, we demonstrate that the ETSP family allows for a remarkable flexibility when modeling heavy-tailed and peaked, but skewed, uncertainty phenomena. We shall demonstrate its applicability via an illustrative example utilizing 2008 US income data.  相似文献

We formulate and study a four-parameter lifetime model called the beta extended half-normal distribution. This model includes as sub-models the exponential, extended half-normal and half-normal distributions. We derive expansions for the new density function which do not depend on complicated functions. We obtain explicit expressions for the moments and incomplete moments, generating function, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves and Rényi entropy. In addition, the model parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood. We provide the observed information matrix. The new model is modified to cope with possible long-term survivors in the data. The usefulness of the new distribution is shown by means of two real data sets.  相似文献

In this article, the simple step-stress model is considered based on generalized Type-I hybrid censored data from the exponential distribution. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters are derived assuming a cumulative exposure model. We then derive the exact distributions of the MLEs of the parameters using conditional moment generating functions. The Bayesian estimators of the parameters are derived and then compared with the MLEs. We also derive confidence intervals for the parameters using these exact distributions, asymptotic distributions of the MLEs, Bayesian, and the parametric bootstrap methods. The problem of determining the optimal stress-changing point is discussed and the MLEs of the pth quantile and reliability functions at the use condition are obtained. Finally, Monte Carlo simulation and some numerical results are presented for illustrating all the inferential methods developed here.  相似文献

A five-parameter extended fatigue life model called the McDonald–Birnbaum–Saunders (McBS) distribution is proposed. It extends the Birnbaum–Saunders and beta Birnbaum–Saunders [G.M. Cordeiro and A.J. Lemonte, The β-Birnbaum–Saunders distribution: An improved distribution for fatigue life modeling. Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 55 (2011), pp. 1445–1461] distributions and also the new Kumaraswamy–Birnbaum–Saunders distribution. We obtain the ordinary moments, generating function, mean deviations and quantile function. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters and its potentiality is illustrated with an application to a real fatigue data set. Further, we propose a new extended regression model based on the logarithm of the McBS distribution. This model can be very useful to the analysis of real data and could give more realistic fits than other special regression models.  相似文献

There is considerable interest in understanding how factors such as time and geographic distance between isolates might influence the evolutionary direction of foot‐and‐mouth disease. Genetic differences between viruses can be measured as the proportion of nucleotides that differ for a given sequence or gene. We present a Bayesian hierarchical regression model for the statistical analysis of continuous data with sample space restricted to the interval (0, 1). The data are modelled using beta distributions with means that depend on covariates through a link function. We discuss methodology for: (i) the incorporation of informative prior information into an analysis; (ii) fitting the model using Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling; (iii) model selection using Bayes factors; and (iv) semiparametric beta regression using penalized splines. The model was applied to two different datasets.  相似文献

Traditionally, analysis of Hydrology employs only one hydrological variable. Recently, Nadarajah [A bivariate distribution with gamma and beta marginals with application to drought data. J Appl Stat. 2009;36:277–301] proposed a bivariate model with gamma and beta as marginal distributions to analyse the drought duration and the proportion of drought events. However, the validity of this method hinges on fulfilment of stringent assumptions. We propose a robust likelihood approach which can be used to make inference for general bivariate continuous and proportion data. Unlike the gamma–beta (GB) model which is sensitive to model misspecification, the new method provides legitimate inference without knowing the true underlying distribution of the bivariate data. Simulations and the analysis of the drought data from the State of Nebraska, USA, are provided to make contrasts between this robust approach and the GB model.  相似文献

We study in detail the so-called beta-modified Weibull distribution, motivated by the wide use of the Weibull distribution in practice, and also for the fact that the generalization provides a continuous crossover towards cases with different shapes. The new distribution is important since it contains as special sub-models some widely-known distributions, such as the generalized modified Weibull, beta Weibull, exponentiated Weibull, beta exponential, modified Weibull and Weibull distributions, among several others. It also provides more flexibility to analyse complex real data. Various mathematical properties of this distribution are derived, including its moments and moment generating function. We examine the asymptotic distributions of the extreme values. Explicit expressions are also derived for the chf, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, reliability and entropies. The estimation of parameters is approached by two methods: moments and maximum likelihood. We compare by simulation the performances of the estimates from these methods. We obtain the expected information matrix. Two applications are presented to illustrate the proposed distribution.  相似文献

For the first time, we propose a new distribution so-called the beta generalized Rayleigh distribution that contains as special sub-models some well-known distributions. Expansions for the cumulative distribution and density functions are derived. We obtain explicit expressions for the moments, moment generating function, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves and densities of the order statistics and their moments. We estimate the parameters by maximum likelihood and provide the observed information matrix. The usefulness of the new distribution is illustrated through two real data sets that show that it is quite flexible in analyzing positive data instead of the generalized Rayleigh and Rayleigh distributions.  相似文献

For a general class of continuous ( and marginally symmetric ) inultivariate distributions, based on suitable M-statistics ( involving bounded but possibly discontinuous score generating functions), shrinkage estimators of location are considered. These estimators are based on the James-Stein type rule and incorporates the idea of preliminary test estimation too. The main emphasis is laid on the study of asymptotic tdistributional ) risk properties of these est-innators, and asymptotic tin-) adraissibility results are also studied under fairly general regularity conditions.  相似文献

We propose a new three-parameter continuous model called the McDonald arcsine distribution, which is a very competitive model to the beta, beta type I and Kumaraswamy distributions for modelling rates and proportions. We provide a mathematical treatment of the new distribution including explicit expressions for the density function, moments, generating and quantile functions, mean deviations, two probability measures based on the Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, Shannon entropy, Rényi entropy and cumulative residual entropy. Maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters and the expected information matrix is determined. An application of the proposed model to real data shows that it can give consistently a better fit than other important statistical models.  相似文献

In this paper we consider properties of the logarithmic and Tukey's lambda-type transformations of random variables that follow beta or unit-gamma distributions. Beta distributions often arise as models for random proportions, and unit-gamma distributions, although not well- known, may serve the same purpose. The latter possess many properties similar to those of beta distributions. Some transformations of random variables that follow a beta distribution are considered by Johnson (1949) and Johnson and Kotz (1970,1973). These are used to obtain a -new"random variable that potentially approximately follows a normal distribution, so that practical analyses become possible. We study normality -related properties of the above transformations. This is done for the first time for unit-gamma distributions. Under the logarithmic transformation the beta and unit-gamma distributions become, respectively, the logarithmic F and generalized logistic distributions. The distributions of the transformed beta and unit-gamma distributions after application of Tukey's lambda-type transformations cannot be derived easily; however, we obtain the first four moments and expressions for the skewness and kudos is of the transformed variables. Values of skewness and kurtosis for a variety of different parameter values are calculated, and in consequence, the near (or not near) normality of the transformed variables is evaluated. Comments on the use of the various transformations are provided..  相似文献

The McDonald extended distribution: properties and applications   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We study a five-parameter lifetime distribution called the McDonald extended exponential model to generalize the exponential, generalized exponential, Kumaraswamy exponential and beta exponential distributions, among others. We obtain explicit expressions for the moments and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves and Gini concentration index. The method of maximum likelihood and a Bayesian procedure are adopted for estimating the model parameters. The applicability of the new model is illustrated by means of a real data set.  相似文献

The authors offer a unified method extending traditional spatial dependence with normally distributed error terms to a new class of spatial models based on the biparametric exponential family of distributions. Joint modeling of the mean and variance (or precision) parameters is proposed in this family of distributions, including spatial correlation. The proposed models are applied for analyzing Colombian land concentration, assuming that the variable of interest follows normal, gamma, and beta distributions. In all cases, the models were fitted using Bayesian methodology with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm for sampling from joint posterior distribution of the model parameters.  相似文献

This article introduces a five-parameter lifetime model called the McDonald Gompertz (McG) distribution to extend the Gompertz, generalized Gompertz, generalized exponential, beta Gompertz, and Kumaraswamy Gompertz distributions among several other models. The hazard function of new distribution can be increasing, decreasing, upside-down bathtub, and bathtub shaped. We obtain several properties of the McG distribution including moments, entropies, quantile, and generating functions. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The parameter estimation is based on the usual maximum likelihood approach. We also provide the observed information matrix and discuss inferences issues. The flexibility and usefulness of the new distribution are illustrated by means of application to two real datasets.  相似文献

The presence of immune elements (generating a fraction of cure) in survival data is common. These cases are usually modeled by the standard mixture model. Here, we use an alternative approach based on defective distributions. Defective distributions are characterized by having density functions that integrate to values less than \(1\), when the domain of their parameters is different from the usual one. We use the Marshall–Olkin class of distributions to generalize two existing defective distributions, therefore generating two new defective distributions. We illustrate the distributions using three real data sets.  相似文献
