Abstract

This paper searches for A-optimal designs for Kronecker product and additive regression models when the errors are heteroscedastic. Sufficient conditions are given so that A-optimal designs for the multifactor models can be built from A-optimal designs for their sub-models with a single factor. The results of an efficiency study carried out to check the adequacy of the products of optimal designs for uni-factor marginal models when these are used to estimate different multi-factor models are also reported.  相似文献

In this paper we give a sufficient condition under which theD-optimal design for a regression model without an intercept can be obtained from theD-optimal design for the corresponding model with an intercept by simply removing the origin from its support points. This paper considers the search for locally and maximin optimal designs for multi-factor nonlinear models from optimal designs for sub-models of a lower dimension. In particular, sufficient conditions are given so that maximin D-optimal designs for additive multi-factor nonlinear models can be built from maximin D-optimal designs for their sub-models with a single factor. We consider the problem of optimal experimental design in random coefficient regression models with respect to a quadratic loss function. By application of WHITTLE'S general equivalence theorem we obtain the structure of optimal designs. An alogrithm is given which allows, under certain assumptions, the construction of the information matrix of an optimal design. Moreover, we give conditions on the equivalence of optimal designs with respect to optimality criteria which are analogous to usual A-D- and _E/-optimality.  相似文献

We consider the Bayesian D-optimal design problem for exponential growth models with one, two or three parameters. For the one-parameter model conditions on the shape of the density of the prior distribution and on the range of its support are given guaranteeing that a one-point design is also Bayesian D-optimal within the class of all designs. In the case of two parameters the best two-point designs are determined and for special prior distributions it is proved that these designs are Bayesian D-optimal. Finally, the exponential growth model with three parameters is investigated. The best three-point designs are characterized by a nonlinear equation. The global optimality of these designs cannot be proved analytically and it is demonstrated that these designs are also Bayesian D-optimal within the class of all designs if gamma-distributions are used as prior distributions.  相似文献

Summary.  In health sciences, medicine and social sciences linear mixed effects models are often used to analyse time-structured data. The search for optimal designs for these models is often hampered by two problems. The first problem is that these designs are only locally optimal. The second problem is that an optimal design for one model may not be optimal for other models. In this paper the maximin principle is adopted to handle both problems, simultaneously. The maximin criterion is formulated by means of a relative efficiency measure, which gives an indication of how much efficiency is lost when the uncertainty about the models over a prior domain of parameters is taken into account. The procedure is illustrated by means of three growth studies. Results are presented for a vocabulary growth study from education, a bone gain study from medical research and an epidemiological decline in height study. It is shown that, for the mixed effects polynomial models that are applied to these studies, the maximin designs remain highly efficient for different sets of models and combinations of parameter values.  相似文献

The problem of construction of D-optimal designs for beta regression models involving one predictor is considered for the mean-precision parameterization suggested by Ferrari and Cribari-Neto [Beta regression for modelling rates and proportions. J Appl Stat. 2004;31:799–815]. Here we use the logit link function for the mean sub-model. These designs are presented and discussed for unrestricted as well as restricted design regions by considering the precision parameter as (1) a known constant and (2) an unknown constant. Efficiency comparison of obtained designs with commonly used equi-weighted, equi-spaced designs is made to recommend designs for practical use. Real-life applications are given to show the usefulness of these designs.  相似文献

Abstract

Designs for the first order trigonometric regression model over an interval on the real line are considered for the situation where estimation of the slope of the response surface at various points in the factor space is of primary interest. Minimization of the variance of the estimated slope at a point maximized over all points in the region of interest is taken as the design criterion. Optimal designs under the minimax criterion are derived for the situation where the design region and the region of interest are identical and a symmetric “partial cycle”. Some comparisons of the minimax designs with the traditional D- and A-optimal designs are provided. Efficiencies of some exact designs under the minimax criterion are also investigated.  相似文献

The authors propose and explore new regression designs. Within a particular parametric class, these designs are minimax robust against bias caused by model misspecification while attaining reasonable levels of efficiency as well. The introduction of this restricted class of designs is motivated by a desire to avoid the mathematical and numerical intractability found in the unrestricted minimax theory. Robustness is provided against a family of model departures sufficiently broad that the minimax design measures are necessarily absolutely continuous. Examples of implementation involve approximate polynomial and second order multiple regression.  相似文献

Two results for D θ-optimal designs for nonlinear regression models are shown to follow directly from approximate design theory. The first result considered is one concerning the replication of exact designs with minimum support, first established by Atkinson and Hunter and by M.J. Trend-free and nearly trend-free block designs were developed to eliminate polynomial trends across the plots of experimental designs. Yeh, Bradley and Notz (1985) proved that certain nearly trend-free designs are A- and D-optimal in a subclass of all competing designs. This article extends that result by enlarging the class of designs for which the optimality holds, and by increasing the class of optimality criteria from A- and D-optimality to the class of all Schur-convex nonincreasing functions.  相似文献

The authors consider the problem of constructing standardized maximin D‐optimal designs for weighted polynomial regression models. In particular they show that by following the approach to the construction of maximin designs introduced recently by Dette, Haines & Imhof (2003), such designs can be obtained as weak limits of the corresponding Bayesian q‐optimal designs. They further demonstrate that the results are more broadly applicable to certain families of nonlinear models. The authors examine two specific weighted polynomial models in some detail and illustrate their results by means of a weighted quadratic regression model and the Bleasdale–Nelder model. In this article, we propose a beta regression model with multiplicative log-normal measurement errors. Three estimation methods are presented, namely, naive, calibration regression, and pseudo likelihood. The nuisance parameters are estimated from a system of estimation equations using replicated data and these estimates are used to propose a pseudo likelihood function. A simulation study was performed to assess some properties of the proposed methods. Results from an example with a real dataset, including diagnostic tools, are also reported.  相似文献

Designs for quadratic and cubic regression are considered when the possible choices of the controlable variable are points x=( x1,x2,…,xq) in the q-dimensional. Full of radius R, Bq(R) ={x:Σ4ix2i?R2}. The designs that are optimum among rotatable designs with respect to the D-, A-, and E-optimality criteria are compared in their performance relative to these and other criteria, including extrapolation. Additionally, the performance of a design optimum for one value of R, when it is implemented for a different value of R, is investigated. Some of the results are developed algebraically; others, numerically. For example, in quadratic regression the A-optimum design appears to be fairly robust in its efficiency, under variation of criterion.  相似文献

Based on B-spline basis functions and smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) penalty, we present a new estimation and variable selection procedure based on modal regression for partially linear additive models. The outstanding merit of the new method is that it is robust against outliers or heavy-tail error distributions and performs no worse than the least-square-based estimation for normal error case. The main difference is that the standard quadratic loss is replaced by a kernel function depending on a bandwidth that can be automatically selected based on the observed data. With appropriate selection of the regularization parameters, the new method possesses the consistency in variable selection and oracle property in estimation. Finally, both simulation study and real data analysis are performed to examine the performance of our approach.  相似文献

It is well known that it is difficult to construct minimax optimal designs. Furthermore, since in practice we never know the true error variance, it is important to allow small deviations and construct robust optimal designs. We investigate a class of minimax optimal regression designs for models with heteroscedastic errors that are robust against possible misspecification of the error variance. Commonly used A-, c-, and I-optimality criteria are included in this class of minimax optimal designs. Several theoretical results are obtained, including a necessary condition and a reflection symmetry for these minimax optimal designs. In this article, we focus mainly on linear models and assume that an approximate error variance function is available. However, we also briefly discuss how the methodology works for nonlinear models. We then propose an effective algorithm to solve challenging nonconvex optimization problems to find minimax designs on discrete design spaces. Examples are given to illustrate minimax optimal designs and their properties.  相似文献
