We develop exact inference for the location and scale parameters of the Laplace (double exponential) distribution based on their maximum likelihood estimators from a Type-II censored sample. Based on some pivotal quantities, exact confidence intervals and tests of hypotheses are constructed. Upon conditioning first on the number of observations that are below the population median, exact distributions of the pivotal quantities are expressed as mixtures of linear combinations and of ratios of linear combinations of standard exponential random variables, which facilitates the computation of quantiles of these pivotal quantities. Tables of quantiles are presented for the complete sample case.  相似文献

In this paper, inference for the scale parameter of lifetime distribution of a k-unit parallel system is provided. Lifetime distribution of each unit of the system is assumed to be a member of a scale family of distributions. Maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and confidence intervals for the scale parameter based on progressively Type-II censored sample are obtained. A β-expectation tolerance interval for the lifetime of the system is obtained. As a member of the scale family, half-logistic distribution is considered and the performance of the MLE, confidence intervals and tolerance intervals are studied using simulation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider a general form for the underlying distribution and a general conjugate prior, and develop a general procedure for deriving the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators based on an observed generalized Type-II hybrid censored sample. The problems of predicting the future order statistics from the same sample and that from a future sample are also discussed from a Bayesian viewpoint. For the illustration of the developed results, the exponential and Pareto distributions are used as examples. Finally, two numerical examples are presented for illustrating all the inferential procedures developed here.  相似文献

Distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) in Type-II (progressive) hybrid censoring based on two-parameter exponential distributions have been obtained using a moment generating function approach. Although resulting in explicit expressions, the representations are complicated alternating sums. Using the spacings-based approach of Cramer and Balakrishnan [On some exact distributional results based on Type-I progressively hybrid censored data from exponential distributions. Statist Methodol. 2013;10:128–150], we derive simple expressions for the exact density and distribution functions of the MLEs in terms of B-spline functions. These representations can be easily implemented on a computer and provide an efficient method to compute density and distribution functions as well as moments of Type-II (progressively) hybrid censored order statistics.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a Bayes prediction problem in the exponential distribution under random censorship. Using censored samples, we work out a prediction interval for a sum of interest which consists of some future samples. Differing from the general Bayes approach, we do not specify the prior distribution of the parameter, and only a first moment condition on the prior is assumed. Simulation studies are conducted to exhibit the coverage probabilities of the prediction interval. Abstract.  This article extends recent results [Scand. J. Statist. 28 (2001) 699] about exact non-parametric inferences based on order statistics with progressive type-II censoring. The extension lies in that non-parametric inferences are now covered where the dependence between involved order statistics cannot be circumvented. These inferences include: (a) tolerance intervals containing at least a specified proportion of the parent distribution, (b) prediction intervals containing at least a specified number of observations in a future sample, and (c) outer and/or inner confidence intervals for a quantile interval of the parent distribution. The inferences are valid for any parent distribution with continuous distribution function. The key result shows how the probability of an event involving k dependent order statistics that are observable/uncensored with progressive type-II censoring can be represented as a mixture with known weights of corresponding probabilities involving k dependent ordinary order statistics. Further applications/developments concerning exact Kolmogorov-type confidence regions are indicated.  相似文献

In this paper, by considering a progressively Type-II censored sample from the two-parameter Gompertz distribution, a necessary and sufficient condition is established for the existence and uniqueness of the maximum-likelihood estimates of the shape and scale parameters. The results for the special cases of complete and ordinary Type-II right censored samples are then deduced. Several numerical examples from the literature are presented for the purpose of illustrating the established results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we propose a parameter estimation method for the three-parameter lognormal distribution based on Type-II right censored data. In the proposed method, under mild conditions, the estimates always exist uniquely in the entire parameter space, and the estimators also have consistency over the entire parameter space. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we further show that the proposed method performs very well compared to a prominent method of estimation in terms of bias and root mean squared error (RMSE) in small-sample situations. Finally, two examples based on real data sets are presented for illustrating the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of predicting the future sequential order statistics based on observed multiply Type-II censored samples of sequential order statistics from one- and two-parameter exponential distributions is addressed. Using the Bayesian approach, the predictive and survival functions are derived and then the point and interval predictions are obtained. In reliability and life-testing experiments, the researcher is often interested in the effects of extreme or varying stress factors such as temperature, voltage and load on the lifetimes of experimental units. Step-stress test, which is a special class of accelerated life-tests, allows the experimenter to increase the stress levels at fixed times during the experiment in order to obtain information on the parameters of the life distributions more quickly than under normal operating conditions. In this paper, we consider a new step-stress model in which the life-testing experiment gets terminated either at a pre-fixed time (say, Tm+1Tm+1) or at a random time ensuring at least a specified number of failures (say, r out of n). Under this model in which the data obtained are Type-II hybrid censored, we consider the case of exponential distribution for the underlying lifetimes. We then derive the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the parameters assuming a cumulative exposure model with lifetimes being exponentially distributed. The exact distributions of the MLEs of parameters are obtained through the use of conditional moment generating functions. We also derive confidence intervals for the parameters using these exact distributions, asymptotic distributions of the MLEs and the parametric bootstrap methods, and assess their performance through a Monte Carlo simulation study. Finally, we present two examples to illustrate all the methods of inference discussed here.  相似文献

In this article, the statistical inference for the Gompertz distribution based on Type-II progressively hybrid censored data is discussed. The estimation of the parameters for Gompertz distribution is obtained using maximum likelihood method (MLE) and Bayesian method under three different loss functions. We also proved the existence and uniqueness of the MLE. The one-sample Bayesian prediction intervals are obtained. The work is done for different values of the parameters. We apply the Monto Carlo simulation to compare the proposed methods, also an example is discussed to construct the Prediction intervals.  相似文献

Point and interval estimators for the scale parameter of the component lifetime distribution of a k-component parallel system are obtained when the component lifetimes are assumed to be independently and identically exponentially distributed. We prove that the maximum likelihood estimator of the scale parameter based on progressively Type-II censored system lifetimes is unique and can be obtained by a fixed-point iteration procedure. In particular, we illustrate that the Newton–Raphson method does not converge for any initial value. Furthermore, exact confidence intervals are constructed by a transformation using normalized spacings and other component lifetime distributions including Weibull distribution are discussed.  相似文献

Among k independent two-parameter exponential distributions which have the common scale parameter, the lower extreme population (LEP) is the one with the smallest location parameter and the upper extreme population (UEP) is the one with the largest location parameter. Given a multiply type II censored sample from each of these k independent two-parameter exponential distributions, 14 estimators for the unknown location parameters and the common unknown scale parameter are considered. Fourteen simultaneous confidence intervals (SCIs) for all distances from the extreme populations (UEP and LEP) and from the UEP from these k independent exponential distributions under the multiply type II censoring are proposed. The critical values are obtained by the Monte Carlo method. The optimal SCIs among 14 methods are identified based on the criteria of minimum confidence length for various censoring schemes. The subset selection procedures of extreme populations are also proposed and two numerical examples are given for illustration.  相似文献

There are several failure modes may cause system failed in reliability and survival analysis. It is usually assumed that the causes of failure modes are independent each other, though this assumption does not always hold. Dependent competing risks modes from Marshall-Olkin bivariate Weibull distribution under Type-I progressive interval censoring scheme are considered in this paper. We derive the maximum likelihood function, the maximum likelihood estimates, the 95% Bootstrap confidence intervals and the 95% coverage percentages of the parameters when shape parameter is known, and EM algorithm is applied when shape parameter is unknown. The Monte-Carlo simulation is given to illustrate the theoretical analysis and the effects of parameters estimates under different sample sizes. Finally, a data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The method, based on a data transformation, overcomes the problem of unbounded likelihood. In the proposed method, under mild conditions, the estimates always exist uniquely, and the estimators are also consistent over the entire parameter space. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we further show that the proposed method of estimation performs well compared to some prominent methods in terms of bias and root mean squared error in small-sample situations.
