In this article, two different types of precedence tests, each with two different test statistics, based on ranked set samples for testing the equality of two distributions are discussed. The exact null distributions of proposed test statistics are derived, critical values are tabulated for both set size and number of cycles up to 8, and the exact power functions of these two types of precedence tests under the Lehmann alternative are derived. Then, the power values of these two test procedures and their competitors based on simple random samples and based on ranked set samples are compared under the Lehmann alternative exactly and also under a location-shift alternative by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, the impact of imperfect ranking is discussed and some concluding remarks are presented.  相似文献

WILCOXON-TYPE RANK-SUM PRECEDENCE TESTS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper introduces Wilcoxon‐type rank‐sum precedence tests for testing the hypothesis that two life‐time distribution functions are equal. They extend the precedence life‐test first proposed by Nelson in 1963. The paper proposes three Wilcoxon‐type rank‐sum precedence test statistics—the minimal, maximal and expected rank‐sum statistics—and derives their null distributions. Critical values are presented for some combinations of sample sizes, and the exact power function is derived under the Lehmann alternative. The paper examines the power properties of the Wilcoxon‐type rank‐sum precedence tests under a location‐shift alternative through Monte Carlo simulations, and it compares the power of the precedence test, the maximal precedence test and Wilcoxon rank‐sum test (based on complete samples). Two examples are presented for illustration.  相似文献

This paper deals with a class of nonparametric two-sample tests for ordered alternatives. The test statistics proposed are based on the number of observations from one sample that precede or exceed a threshold specified by the other sample, and they are extensions of ?idák's test. We derive their exact null distributions and also discuss a large-sample approximation. We then study their power properties exactly against the Lehmann alternative and make some comparative comments. Finally, we present an example to illustrate the proposed tests.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a precedence-type test based on Kaplan–Meier estimator of cumulative distribution function (CDF) for testing the hypothesis that two distribution functions are equal against a stochastically ordered hypothesis. This test is an alternative to the precedence life-test proposed first by Nelson (1963). After deriving the null distribution of the test statistic, we present its exact power function under the Lehmann alternative, and compare the exact power as well as simulated power (under location-shift) of the proposed test with other precedence-type tests. Next, we extend this test to the case of progressively Type-II censored data. Critical values for some combination of sample sizes and progressive censoring schemes are presented. We then examine the power properties of this test procedure and compare them to those of the weighted precedence and weighted maximal precedence tests under a location-shift alternative by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we present two examples to illustrate all the test procedures discussed here, and then make some concluding remarks.  相似文献

We consider here a class of test statistics based on exceeding observations and develop exceedance-type tests for the two-sample hypothesis testing problem. The exact distribution of the statistics are derived under the null hypothesis as well as under the Lehmann alternative, and then a comparative power study is carried out.  相似文献

The best precedence test (BPT) is derived for testing the hypothesis that the lifetimes of two types of items on test have the same distribution. The test has maximum power in the class of the Lehmann type of alternatives F - 1 - (1-G) , A > 1, where F and G are probability distributions of the lifetimes of two types of items on test. This class includes exponential distributions, the Weibull distribution differing only in scale and distributions with proportional hazard rates. Exact power of the BPT is compared with other nonparametrie and parametric tests. The test may terminate before all the lifetimes of the items on test are recorded. In comparing with competing tests of equal size, the power functions are similar but a considerable number of items can be saved and the time on test can be reduced by using the BPT  相似文献

A multivariate two-sample testing problem is one of the most important topics in nonparametric statistics. One of the multivariate two-sample testing problems based on the Jure?ková–Kalina ranks of distance is discussed in this article. Further, a multivariate Wilcoxon-type test is proposed for testing the equality of two continuous distribution functions. Simulations are used to investigate the power of this test for the two-sided alternative with various population distributions. The results show that the proposed test statistic is more suitable than various existing statistics for testing a shift in the locationt and location-scale parameters.  相似文献

A new rank test family is proposed to test the equality of two multivariate failure times distributions with censored observations. The tests are very simple: they are based on a transformation of the multivariate rank vectors to a univariate rank score and the resulting statistics belong to the familiar class of the weighted logrank test statistics. The new procedure is also applicable to multivariate observations in general, such as repeated measures, some of which may be missing. To investigate the performance of the proposed tests, a simulation study was conducted with bivariate exponential models for various censoring rates. The size and power of these tests against Lehmann alternatives were compared to the size and power of two other tests (Wei and Lachin, 1984 and Wei and Knuiman, 1987). In all simulations the new procedures provide a relatively good power and an accurate control over the size of the test. A real example from the National Cooperative Gallstone Study is given  相似文献

The author introduces new statistics suited for testing uniformity of circular distributions and powerful against multimodal alternatives. One of them has a simple expression in terms of the geometric mean of the sample of chord lengths. The others belong to a family indexed by a continuous parameter. The asymptotic distributions under the null hypothesis are derived. We compare the power of the new tests against Stephens's alternatives with those of Ajne, Watson, and Hermans‐Rasson's tests. Some of the new tests are the most powerful when the alternative has three or four modes. A heuristic justification of this feature is given. An application to the analysis of archaeological data is provided. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 38:80–96; 2010 © 2010 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

Permutation Tests for Linear Models   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3
Several approximate permutation tests have been proposed for tests of partial regression coefficients in a linear model based on sample partial correlations. This paper begins with an explanation and notation for an exact test. It then compares the distributions of the test statistics under the various permutation methods proposed, and shows that the partial correlations under permutation are asymptotically jointly normal with means 0 and variances 1. The method of Freedman & Lane (1983) is found to have asymptotic correlation 1 with the exact test, and the other methods are found to have smaller correlations with this test. Under local alternatives the critical values of all the approximate permutation tests converge to the same constant, so they all have the same asymptotic power. Simulations demonstrate these theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce three new distribution-free Shewhart-type control charts that exploit run and Wilcoxon-type rank-sum statistics to detect possible shifts of a monitored process. Exact formulae for the alarm rate, the run length distribution, and the average run length (ARL) are all derived. A key advantage of these charts is that, due to their nonparametric nature, the false alarm rate (FAR) and in-control run length distribution is the same for all continuous process distributions. Tables are provided for the implementation of the charts for some typical FAR values. Furthermore, a numerical study carried out reveals that the new charts are quite flexible and efficient in detecting shifts to Lehmann-type out-of-control situations.  相似文献

In this paper, we revisit the problem of testing of the hypothesis of circular symmetry of a bivariate distribution. We propose some nonparametric tests based on sector counts. These include tests based on chi-square goodness-of-fit test, the classical likelihood ratio, mean deviation, and the range. The proposed tests are easy to implement and the exact null distributions for small sample sizes of the test statistics are obtained. Two examples with small and large data sets are given to illustrate the application of the tests proposed. For small and moderate sample sizes, the performances of the proposed tests are evaluated using empirical powers (empirical sizes are also reported). Also, we evaluate the performance of these count-based tests with adaptations of several well-known tests such as the Kolmogorov–Smirnov-type tests, tests based on kernel density estimator, and the Wilcoxon-type tests. It is observed that among the count-based tests the likelihood ratio test performs better.  相似文献

This paper concerns the joint behaviour of precedence and exceedance statistics in random threshold models. Joint distributions of precedence and exceedance statistics, both exact and asymptotic, are obtained, and the results are illustrated for random thresholds based on order statistics and record values.  相似文献

In comparative clinical trials or animal carcinogenesis studies, the effect of increasing dose levels of an agent or an increasing number of additional modalities are frequently evaluated on the prolonged survival time of patients with a particular disease. It is of particular interest to test the ordered alternative that a treatment level increase leads to better survival. This paper considers an ordered test based on the two–sample weighted Kaplan–Meier statistics (Pepe & Fleming, 1989, 1991). It evaluates asymptotic relative efficiencies of the proposed ordered weighted Kaplan–Meier test, the competing ordered weighted logrank test (Liu et al., 1993) and modified ordered logrank test (Liu & Tsai, 1999) under Lehmann alternatives, for various piecewise exponential survival distributions. Finally, it demonstrates the proposed test on an appropriate dataset.  相似文献

Positive quadrant dependence is a specific dependence structure that is of practical importance in for example modelling dependencies in insurance and actuarial sciences. This dependence structure imposes a constraint on the copula function. The interest in this paper is to test for positive quadrant dependence. One way to assess the distribution of the test statistics under the null hypothesis of positive quadrant dependence is to resample from a constrained copula. This requires constrained estimation of a copula function. We show that this use of resampling under a constrained copula improves considerably the power performance of existing testing procedures. We propose two resampling procedures, one based on a parametric constrained copula estimation and one relying on nonparametric estimation of a positive quadrant dependence copula, and discuss their properties. The finite‐sample performances of the resulting testing procedures are evaluated via a simulation study that also includes comparisons with existing tests. Finally, a data set of Danish fire insurance claims is tested for positive quadrant dependence. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 41: 36–64; 2013 © 2012 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss tests of heteroscedasticity and/or autocorrelation in nonlinear models with AR(1) and symmetrical errors. The symmetrical errors distribution class includes all symmetrical continuous distributions, such as normal, Student-t, power exponential, logistic I and II, contaminated normal, so on. First, score test statistics and their adjustment forms of heteroscedasticity are derived. Then, the asymptotic properties, including asymptotic chi-square and approximate powers under local alternatives of the score tests, are studied. The properties of test statistics are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, a real data set is used to illustrate our test methods.  相似文献

Rukhin's statistic family for goodness-of-fit, under the null hypothesis, has asymptotic chi-squared distribution; however, for small samples the chi-squared approximation in some cases does not well agree with the exact distribution. In this paper we consider this approximation and other three to get appropriate test levels in comparison with the exact level. Moreover, exact power comparisons for several values of the parameter under specified alternatives provide that the classical Pearson's statistic, obtained as a particular case of Rukhin statistic, can be improved by choosing other statistics from the family. An explanation is proposed in terms of the effects of individual cell frequencies on the Rukhin statistic. For the modeling of bounded counts, the binomial distribution is a common choice. In applications, however, one often observes an excessive number of zeros and extra-binomial variation, which cannot be explained by a binomial distribution. We propose statistics to evaluate the number of zeros and the dispersion with respect to a binomial model, which is based on the sample binomial index of dispersion and the sample binomial zero index. We apply this index to autocorrelated counts generated by a binomial autoregressive process of order one, which also includes the special case of independent and identically (i. i. d.) bounded counts. The limiting null distributions of the proposed test statistics are derived. A Monte-Carlo study evaluates their size and power under various alternatives. Finally, we present two real-data applications as well as the derivation of effective sample sizes to illustrate the proposed methodology.  相似文献

We consider robust permutation tests for a location shift in the two sample case based on estimating equations, comparing the test statistics based on a score function and an M-estimate. First we obtain a form for both tests so that the exact tests may be carried out using the same algorithms as used for permutation tests based on the mean. Then we obtain the Bahadur slopes of the tests in these two statistics, giving numerical results for two cases equivalent to a test based on Huber scores and a particular case of this related to a median test. We show that they have different Bahadur slopes with neither exceeding the other over the whole range. Finally, we give some numerical results illustrating the robustness properties of the tests and confirming the theoretical results on Bahadur slopes.  相似文献
