The problem of predicting future generalized-order statistics, by assuming the future sample size is a random variable, is discussed. A general expression for the coverage probability of the prediction intervals is derived. Since k-records and progressively type-II censored-order statistics are contained in the model of generalized-order statistics, the corresponding results for them can be deduced as special cases. When the future sample size has degenerate, binomial, Poisson and geometric distributions, numerical computations are given. The procedure for finding an optimal prediction interval is presented for each case. Finally, we apply our results to a real data set in life testing given in Lee and Wang [Statistical methods for survival data analysis. Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley and Sons; 2003, p. 58, Table 3.4] for illustrative the proposed procedure in this paper.  相似文献

Generalized order statistics (gos) were introduced by Kamps [1995. A Concept of Generalized Order Statistics. Teubner, Stuttgart] to unify several models of ordered random variables (rv's), e.g., (ordinary) order statistics (oos), records, sequential order statistics (sos). In a wide subclass of gos that includes oos and sos, the possible limit distribution functions (df's) of the maximum gos are obtained in Nasri-Roudsari [1996. Extreme value theory of generalized order statistics. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 55, 281–297]. In this paper, for this subclass, necessary and sufficient conditions of weak convergence, as well as the form of the possible limit df's of extreme, intermediate and central gos are derived. These results are extended to a wider subclass.  相似文献

An Opial-type inequality is applied to obtain relations for expectations of functions of m-generalized order statistics (m-gOSs), their distribution functions, as well as moment-generating functions. Respective inequalities for common order statistics and record values are contained as particular cases.  相似文献

In this work, general forms of many well-known continuous probability distributions are characterized by conditional expectation of some functions of generalized order statistics. These results are the generalization of the characterization results based on conditional expectation of the functions of order statistics given by Khan and Abu-Salih (1989).  相似文献

We study distributional properties of generalized order statistics (gos) related by a random shift or scaling scheme in the continuous and discrete case, respectively. In the continuous case, we obtain new characterizations of distributions relating non-neighbouring gos extending some results given in the literature for the neighbouring cases. On the other hand, in the discrete case, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of a discrete parent distribution supported on the integers whose gos are related by a random translation.  相似文献

The structural affinity of mixed rank statistics and linear combinations of functions of concomitants of order statistics (or induced order statistics) is examined here. Some weal as well as strong invariance principles for these statistics are studied. A variety of models (depend on the nature of stochastic dependence of the two variates) is considered and the regularity conditions are tailored for these diverse situations. Some possible applications of these results in some problems of sequential (statistical) inference are also considered.  相似文献

In this article, by using the dropping argument, a general recurrence relation satisfied by the joint cumulative distribution functions of order statistics from any arbitrary bivariate distribution function is established. This recurrence relation is the first bivariate version of the basic triangle rule for order statistics arisen from univariate distribution function. Finally, this relation is extended to the trivariate case. These lead to similar identities for product moments (of any order) of order statistics.  相似文献

In a wide subclass of generalized order statistics, representations of marginal density and distribution functions are developed. The results are applied to obtain several relations, such as recurrence relations, and explicit expressions for the moments of generalized order statistics from Pareto, power function and Weibull distributions Moreover, characterizations of exponential distributions are shown by means of a distributional identity as well as by* an identity of expectations involving a subrange and a corresponding generalized order statistic.  相似文献

In this paper, some versatile test procedures are considered, which are useful for the case where the association of survival functions is unclear. These procedures are based on a maximum of a class of the weighted Kaplan–Meier statistics. The weight functions used in the procedures account for both the censored and non-censored data points. Numerical simulations with these weight functions show that, under various levels of censoring, the proposed procedures perform well across a wide range of alternative configurations. Implementation of the proposed procedures is illustrated in a real data example.  相似文献

Conditional Studentized Survival Tests for Randomly Censored Models   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
It is shown that in the case of heterogenous censoring distributions Studentized survival tests can be carried out as conditional permutation tests given the order statistics and their censoring status. The result is based on a conditional central limit theorem for permutation statistics. It holds for linear test statistics as well as for sup-statistics. The procedure works under one of the following general circumstances for the two-sample problem: the unbalanced sample size case, highly censored data, certain non-convergent weight functions or under alternatives. For instance, the two-sample log rank test can be carried out asymptotically as a conditional test if the relative amount of uncensored observations vanishes asymptotically as long as the number of uncensored observations becomes infinite. Similar results hold whenever the sample sizes and are unbalanced in the sense that and hold.  相似文献

In this paper the upper tolerance problem for random samples will be investigated. Here we will be concerned with populations that are skewed to the right and possess a finite minimum (e.g. the Exponential distribution). The method developed here takes the form of a multiplicative factor times a quantile estimate. The multiplicative factor is simple in form and is based on bootstrapped quantiles of order statistics, though no resampling is required. The quantile estimate itself could be of any desired form; for example, it could be nonparametric, and, therefore based on order statistics as well. The proposed tolerance limit has the desirable property of allowing for the possibility of exceeding the sample maximum, and therefore capturing more probability content, while avoiding, in general, use of the extreme order statistics.  相似文献

Because of their simplicity, Wald statistics are typically used in complex experimental designs. Likelihood ratio statistics in factorial designs are more flexible than Wald statistics in the sense of adapting to non-saturated designs by fitting only as many parameters as the model calls for. This leads to a significant gain in power. Here we propose likelihood ratio type statistics for testing hypotheses in repeated measures designs with heterogeneous covariance matrices, and derive their asymptotic distribution in one general theorem that does not require normality or even continuity of the responses. Simulation studies demonstrate their advantages over the Wald statistics.  相似文献

In the linear regression model, the asymptotic distributions of certain functions of confidence bounds of a class of confidence intervals for the regression parameter arc investigated. The class of confidence intervals we consider in this paper are based on the usual linear rank statistics (signed as well as unsigned). Under suitable assumptions, if the confidence intervals are based on the signed linear rank statistics, it is established that the lengths, properly normalized, of the confidence intervals converge in law to the standard normal distributions; if the confidence intervals arc based on the unsigned linear rank statistics, it is then proved that a linear function of the confidence bounds converges in law to a normal distribution.  相似文献

The hazard rate (HR) and mean residual lifetime are two of the most practical and best-known functions in biometry, reliability, statistics and life testing. Recently, the reversed HR function is found to have interesting properties useful in additional areas such as censored data and forensic science. For these three biometric functions, we propose testing methods that they take on a known functional form against that they dominate or are dominated by this known form. This goodness-of-fit-type testing is wider in applications and more interesting than the long-standing testing procedures for exponentiality against the monotonicity of these functions or even the change point problems. This is so since we can test against any choice of the survival distribution and not just exponentiality. For this general testing, we present easy to implement tests and generalize them into classes of statistics that could lead to more powerful and efficient testing.  相似文献

The two-sample, distribution-free statistics of Smirnov (1939) are used to define a new statistic. While the Smirnov statistics are used as a general goodness-of-fit test, a distribution-free scale test based on this new statistic is developed. It is shown that this new test has higher power than the two-sided Smirnov statistic in detecting differences in scale for some symmetric distributions with equal means/medians. The critical values of the proposed test statistic and its limiting distribution are given  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Based on the observed dual generalized order statistics drawn from an arbitrary unknown distribution, nonparametric two-sided prediction intervals as well as prediction upper and lower bounds for an ordinary and a dual generalized order statistic from another iid sequence with the same distribution are developed. The prediction intervals for dual generalized order statistics based on the observed ordinary generalized order statistics are also developed. The coverage probabilities of these prediction intervals are exact and free of the parent distribution, F. Finally, numerical computations and real examples of the coverage probabilities are presented for choosing the appropriate limits of the prediction.  相似文献

We develop and study in the framework of Pareto-type distributions a general class of kernel estimators for the second order parameter ρρ, a parameter related to the rate of convergence of a sequence of linearly normalized maximum values towards its limit. Inspired by the kernel goodness-of-fit statistics introduced in Goegebeur et al. (2008), for which the mean of the normal limiting distribution is a function of ρρ, we construct estimators for ρρ using ratios of ratios of differences of such goodness-of-fit statistics, involving different kernel functions as well as power transformations. The consistency of this class of ρρ estimators is established under some mild regularity conditions on the kernel function, a second order condition on the tail function 1−F of the underlying model, and for suitably chosen intermediate order statistics. Asymptotic normality is achieved under a further condition on the tail function, the so-called third order condition. Two specific examples of kernel statistics are studied in greater depth, and their asymptotic behavior illustrated numerically. The finite sample properties are examined by means of a simulation study.  相似文献

Multiple Window Discrete Scan Statistics   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this article, multiple scan statistics of variable window sizes are derived for independent and identically distributed 0-1 Bernoulli trials. Both one and two dimensional, as well as, conditional and unconditional cases are treated. The advantage in using multiple scan statistics, as opposed to single fixed window scan statistics, is that they are more sensitive in detecting a change in the underlying distribution of the observed data. We show how to derive simple approximations for the significance level of these testing procedures and present numerical results to evaluate their performance.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider characterizations of geometric distribution based on some properties of progressively Type-II right-censored order statistics. Specifically, we establish characterizations through conditional expectation, identical distribution, and independence of functions of progressively Type-II right-censored order statistics. Moreover, extensions of these results to generalized order statistics are also sketched. These generalize the corresponding results known for the case of ordinary order statistics.  相似文献

In this paper, recurrence relations from a general class of doubly truncated continuous distributions which are satisfied by single as well as product moments of order statistics are obtained. Recurrence relations from doubly truncated generalized Weibull, exponential, Raleigh and logistic distributions have been derived as special cases of our result, Some previous results for doubly truncated Weibull, standard exponential, power function and Burr type XII distributions are obtained as special cases. The general recurrence relation of single moments has been used in the case of the left and right truncation to characterize the Weibull, Burr type XII and Pareto distributions.  相似文献
