ABSTRACT

In this paper an attempt to estimate the current population mean in two-occasion successive sampling has been made. A modified regression-type estimator has been proposed. Optimum replacement strategy of the proposed estimator has been formulated. The proposed estimator is compared with sample mean estimator when there is no matching from the previous occasion and the optimum natural successive sampling estimator. In this paper, an alternative estimator of population mean in the presence of non-response has been suggested which comes in the form of Walsh's estimator. The estimator of mean obtained from the proposed technique remains better than the estimators obtained from ratio or mean methods of imputation. The mean-squared error (MSE) of the resultant estimator is less than that of the estimator obtained on the basis of ratio method of imputation for the optimum choice of parameters. An estimator for estimating a parameter involved in the process of new method of imputation has been discussed. A suggestion to form ‘warm deck’ method of imputation has been suggested. The MSE expressions for the proposed estimators have been derived analytically and compared empirically. The work has been extended to the case of multi-auxiliary information to be used for imputation. Numerical illustrations are also provided.  相似文献

In this paper, bias-adjustment in the jackknife estimator of variance accredited to Rao and Sitter (1995) has been considered. Then the bias-adjusted Rao and Sitter (1995) estimator has been calibrated such that its expected value under the imputing superpopulation model remains the same as the expected value of the mean squared error of the ratio estimator in the presence of non-response. A simulation study has been performed to compare the six different estimators of variance: out of them four estimators belong to Rao and Sitter (1995) and the other two proposed estimators are named as bias-adjusted and bias-adjusted-cum-calibrated estimators. The empirical relative bias and empirical relative efficiency of the two proposed estimators with respect to the four existing estimators accredited to Rao and Sitter (1995) have been investigated through simulations. The bias-adjusted-cum-calibrated estimator has been found to be an efficient estimator in the case of heteroscadastic populations. The present paper considers the situation of simple random and without replacement sampling. The possibility of obtaining a negative estimate of variance by the estimator due to Kim et al. (2006) has been pointed out.  相似文献

Estimationof the coefficient vector of a linear regression model subject to ellipsoidal constraints on the coefficients has been considered. Shrinkage methodology has been synthesized with minimax estimation technique and an estimator based on this has been proposed. The properties of this estimator have been derived under a quadratic loss set-up of the decision theory which are analysed to assess the behaviour of the proposed estimator. Superiority conditions for the dominance of this estimator over the existing minimax and least-squares estimators have also been derived.  相似文献

The present work is an attempt to make use of several auxiliary variables at both the occasions for improving the precision of estimates at the current occasion on two occasions of successive sampling. Chain-type ratio estimator has been proposed for estimating the population mean at current occasion in two occasions rotation (successive) sampling. Theoretical properties of the proposed estimator have been investigated. The proposed estimator has been compared with simple mean estimator when there is no matching and with the ratio estimator in successive sampling when information is available on one auxiliary variable on both the occasions. Optimum replacement strategy has also been discussed. Theoretical results have been justified through empirical investigation.  相似文献

A regression estimator using two prior values of population mean (μx) of an auxiliary variable (x) is proposed after a preliminary test of closeness of these prior values to the true valueμx. The proposed preliminary test regression estimator has been found to be more efficient in general than the usual regression estimator when prior values are used in place of μxwithout preliminary test of significance. The efficiency of the proposed estimator over the usual regression estimator has also been computed for different values of Δ0, Δ1, n, and ρ, which showed considerable gain in precision.  相似文献

In this paper some improved estimators for the measure of dispersion of an inverse Gaussian distribution have been obtained. If some guessed value of λ is available in the form of a point esitmate λ0 the shrikage technique has been applied and an estimator has been proposed which has smaller mean squared error than the usual estimator. Since the shrinkage estimator has better performance if the guessed value is in the vicinity of the true value, a shrinkage testimator has also been proposed and compared with the usual estimator.  相似文献

In this article, the problem of the estimation of finite population correlation coefficient is considered using the empirical likelihood method. A new estimator that makes the use of both the known mean and variance of an auxiliary variable is proposed. The percent relative bias and percent relative efficiency of the proposed new estimator with respect to the usual estimator of the correlation coefficient is investigated through extensive simulation study for values of the correlation coefficient from ?0.90 to +0.90. The proposed estimator is found to perform better than the simple correlation coefficient from both the bias and relative efficiency points of views, for the population, considered in the investigation. In this article, we have considered the problem of estimation of population variance on current (second) occasion in two occasion successive (rotation) sampling. A class of estimators of population variance has been proposed and its asymptotic properties have been discussed. The proposed class of estimators is compared with the sample variance estimator when there is no matching from the previous occasion and the Singh et al. (2013) estimator. Optimum replacement policy is discussed. It has been shown that the suggested estimator is more efficient than the Singh et al. (2013) estimator and a usual unbiased estimator when there is no matching. An empirical study is carried out in support of the present study.  相似文献

A simple estimator is proposed for the dependence parameter for the Klotz model of Bernoulli trials with Markov dependence and it is compared with the ratio estimator given by Price and the approximate maximum likelihood estimator given by Klotz. The proposed estimator is shown to have considerably smaller bias than the other two estimators with comparable mean squared errors, and has all the large sample optimal properties that the other two estimators have.  相似文献

Utilizing the readily available information on several auxiliary variables on both occasions and the information on the study variable from the previous occasion, an estimation procedure of the population mean on the current occasion has been proposed. Theoretical properties of the proposed estimator have been investigated. Optimum replacement policy to the proposed estimator has been discussed. The proposed estimator has been compared empirically with the sample mean estimator, when there is no matching and the optimum estimator which is a linear combination of the means of the matched and unmatched portions of the sample at the current occasion. A modified bootstrap estimator of the mean of the population selected from two populations is proposed which is a convex combination of the two sample means, where the weights are random quantities. The estimator is shown to be strongly consistent. The small sample behavior of the estimator is investigated and compared with some competitors by means of Monte Carlo studies. It is found that the newly proposed estimator has smaller mean squared error for a wide range of parameter values.  相似文献

Summary.  The jackknife method is often used for variance estimation in sample surveys but has only been developed for a limited class of sampling designs. We propose a jackknife variance estimator which is defined for any without-replacement unequal probability sampling design. We demonstrate design consistency of this estimator for a broad class of point estimators. A Monte Carlo study shows how the proposed estimator may improve on existing estimators.  相似文献
