Abstract

Time averaging has been the traditional approach to handle mixed sampling frequencies. However, it ignores information possibly embedded in high frequency. Mixed data sampling (MIDAS) regression models provide a concise way to utilize the additional information in high-frequency variables. In this paper, we propose a specification test to choose between time averaging and MIDAS models, based on a Durbin-Wu-Hausman test. In particular, a set of instrumental variables is proposed and theoretically validated when the frequency ratio is large. As a result, our method tends to be more powerful than existing methods, as reconfirmed through the simulations.  相似文献

We explore mixed data sampling (henceforth MIDAS) regression models. The regressions involve time series data sampled at different frequencies. Volatility and related processes are our prime focus, though the regression method has wider applications in macroeconomics and finance, among other areas. The regressions combine recent developments regarding estimation of volatility and a not-so-recent literature on distributed lag models. We study various lag structures to parameterize parsimoniously the regressions and relate them to existing models. We also propose several new extensions of the MIDAS framework. The paper concludes with an empirical section where we provide further evidence and new results on the risk-return trade-off. We also report empirical evidence on microstructure noise and volatility forecasting.  相似文献

考虑宏观经济变量具有明显的非线性特征,将非线性误差修正项引入存在协整关系的非平稳混频数据抽样(MIDAS)模型中,构建半参数混频数据抽样误差修正(SEMI-ECM-MIDAS)模型。使用广义似然比(GLR)检验,拓展了混频数据下模型函数形式的一致性检验问题。模拟结果表明SEMI-ECM-MIDAS模型对存在非线性误差修正机制的数据具有显著的预测优势。最后使用该模型研究中国股票市场周度数据、广义货币发行量月度数据和国际原油市场月度数据对中国CPI的短期预测效果。基于AIC准则,对包含半参数模型在内的4种混频数据抽样模型和2种同频模型的连续预测效果进行了全面的比较。研究结果发现:GLR检验表明误差修正项具有明显的非线性特征且在回归中具有显著的反向修正机制,无论采用递归样本、滚动样本还是固定样本,本文提出的SEMI-ECM-MIDAS模型在进行连续预测时均具有最优的预测精度,且预测结果不受混频动态协整关系选择的影响。  相似文献

We present a class of truncated non linear regression models for location and scale where the truncated nature of the data is incorporated into the statistical model by assuming that the response variable follows a truncated distribution. The location parameter of the response variable is assumed to be modeled by a continuous non linear function of covariates and unknown parameters. In addition, the proposed model also allows for the scale parameter of the responses to be characterized by a continuous function of the covariates and unknown parameters. Three particular cases of the proposed models are presented by considering the response variable to follow a truncated normal, truncated skew normal, and truncated beta distribution. These truncated non linear regression models are constructed assuming fixed known truncation limits and model parameters are estimated by direct maximization of the log-likelihood using a non linear optimization algorithm. Standardized residuals and diagnostic metrics based on the cases deletion are considered to verify the adequacy of the model and to detect outliers and influential observations. Results based on simulated data are presented to assess the frequentist properties of estimates, and a real data set on soil-water retention from the Buriti Vermelho River Basin database is analyzed using the proposed methodology.  相似文献

In this article, we develop a robust variable selection procedure jointly for fixed and random effects in linear mixed models for longitudinal data. We propose a penalized robust estimator for both the regression coefficients and the variance of random effects based on a re-parametrization of the linear mixed models. Under some regularity conditions, we show the oracle properties of the proposed robust variable selection method. Simulation study shows the robustness of the proposed method against outliers. In the end, the proposed methods is illustrated in the analysis of a real data set.  相似文献

如何在对参数进行估计的同时自动选择重要解释变量,一直是面板数据分位回归模型中讨论的热点问题之一。通过构造一种含多重随机效应的贝叶斯分层分位回归模型,在假定固定效应系数先验服从一种新的条件Laplace分布的基础上,给出了模型参数估计的Gibbs抽样算法。考虑到不同重要程度的解释变量权重系数压缩程度应该不同,所构造的先验信息具有自适应性的特点,能够准确地对模型中重要解释变量进行自动选取,且设计的切片Gibbs抽样算法能够快速有效地解决模型中各个参数的后验均值估计问题。模拟结果显示,新方法在参数估计精确度和变量选择准确度上均优于现有文献的常用方法。通过对中国各地区多个宏观经济指标的面板数据进行建模分析,演示了新方法估计参数与挑选变量的能力。  相似文献

Due to computational challenges and non-availability of conjugate prior distributions, Bayesian variable selection in quantile regression models is often a difficult task. In this paper, we address these two issues for quantile regression models. In particular, we develop an informative stochastic search variable selection (ISSVS) for quantile regression models that introduces an informative prior distribution. We adopt prior structures which incorporate historical data into the current data by quantifying them with a suitable prior distribution on the model parameters. This allows ISSVS to search more efficiently in the model space and choose the more likely models. In addition, a Gibbs sampler is derived to facilitate the computation of the posterior probabilities. A major advantage of ISSVS is that it avoids instability in the posterior estimates for the Gibbs sampler as well as convergence problems that may arise from choosing vague priors. Finally, the proposed methods are illustrated with both simulation and real data.  相似文献

This paper studies penalized quantile regression for dynamic panel data with fixed effects, where the penalty involves l1 shrinkage of the fixed effects. Using extensive Monte Carlo simulations, we present evidence that the penalty term reduces the dynamic panel bias and increases the efficiency of the estimators. The underlying intuition is that there is no need to use instrumental variables for the lagged dependent variable in the dynamic panel data model without fixed effects. This provides an additional use for the shrinkage models, other than model selection and efficiency gains. We propose a Bayesian information criterion based estimator for the parameter that controls the degree of shrinkage. We illustrate the usefulness of the novel econometric technique by estimating a “target leverage” model that includes a speed of capital structure adjustment. Using the proposed penalized quantile regression model the estimates of the adjustment speeds lie between 3% and 44% across the quantiles, showing strong evidence that there is substantial heterogeneity in the speed of adjustment among firms.  相似文献

Binary dynamic fixed and mixed logit models are extensively studied in the literature. These models are developed to examine the effects of certain fixed covariates through a parametric regression function as a part of the models. However, there are situations where one may like to consider more covariates in the model but their direct effect is not of interest. In this paper we propose a generalization of the existing binary dynamic logit (BDL) models to the semi-parametric longitudinal setup to address this issue of additional covariates. The regression function involved in such a semi-parametric BDL model contains (i) a parametric linear regression function in some primary covariates, and (ii) a non-parametric function in certain secondary covariates. We use a simple semi-parametric conditional quasi-likelihood approach for consistent estimation of the non-parametric function, and a semi-parametric likelihood approach for the joint estimation of the main regression and dynamic dependence parameters of the model. The finite sample performance of the estimation approaches is examined through a simulation study. The asymptotic properties of the estimators are also discussed. The proposed model and the estimation approaches are illustrated by reanalysing a longitudinal infectious disease data.  相似文献

Variable selection is an important task in regression analysis. Performance of the statistical model highly depends on the determination of the subset of predictors. There are several methods to select most relevant variables to construct a good model. However in practice, the dependent variable may have positive continuous values and not normally distributed. In such situations, gamma distribution is more suitable than normal for building a regression model. This paper introduces an heuristic approach to perform variable selection using artificial bee colony optimization for gamma regression models. We evaluated the proposed method against with classical selection methods such as backward and stepwise. Both simulation studies and real data set examples proved the accuracy of our selection procedure.  相似文献

Efficient statistical inference on nonignorable missing data is a challenging problem. This paper proposes a new estimation procedure based on composite quantile regression (CQR) for linear regression models with nonignorable missing data, that is applicable even with high-dimensional covariates. A parametric model is assumed for modelling response probability, which is estimated by the empirical likelihood approach. Local identifiability of the proposed strategy is guaranteed on the basis of an instrumental variable approach. A set of data-based adaptive weights constructed via an empirical likelihood method is used to weight CQR functions. The proposed method is resistant to heavy-tailed errors or outliers in the response. An adaptive penalisation method for variable selection is proposed to achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates. Limiting distributions of the proposed estimators are derived. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate the finite sample performance of the proposed methodologies. An application to the ACTG 175 data is analysed.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with Bayesian estimation of a spatial regression model with skew non-Gaussian errors. The regression parameters are estimated by using a closed skew normal (CSN) distribution, which is closed under conditioning and linear combination. The proposed model captures skewness in the response variable. Sometimes, we may encounter missing observations in the response variable, accordingly we model and predict the missing observations by a Bayesian approach using Gibbs sampling methods. Next, a simulation study is performed to asses our model validity. Also, the proposed model in this work is applied to CO data from Tehran, the capital city of Iran. Then, the accuracy of the CSN and Gaussian models is compared by cross validation criterion.  相似文献

Graphs and networks are common ways of depicting information. In biology, many different biological processes are represented by graphs, such as regulatory networks, metabolic pathways and protein-protein interaction networks. This kind of a priori use of graphs is a useful supplement to the standard numerical data such as microarray gene expression data. In this paper, we consider the problem of regression analysis and variable selection when the covariates are linked on a graph. We study a graph-constrained regularization procedure and its theoretical properties for regression analysis to take into account the neighborhood information of the variables measured on a graph, where a smoothness penalty on the coefficients is defined as a quadratic form of the Laplacian matrix associated with the graph. We establish estimation and model selection consistency results and provide estimation bounds for both fixed and diverging numbers of parameters in regression models. We demonstrate by simulations and a real dataset that the proposed procedure can lead to better variable selection and prediction than existing methods that ignore the graph information associated with the covariates.  相似文献

The class of beta regression models proposed by Ferrari and Cribari-Neto [Beta regression for modelling rates and proportions, Journal of Applied Statistics 31 (2004), pp. 799–815] is useful for modelling data that assume values in the standard unit interval (0, 1). The dependent variable relates to a linear predictor that includes regressors and unknown parameters through a link function. The model is also indexed by a precision parameter, which is typically taken to be constant for all observations. Some authors have used, however, variable dispersion beta regression models, i.e., models that include a regression submodel for the precision parameter. In this paper, we show how to perform testing inference on the parameters that index the mean submodel without having to model the data precision. This strategy is useful as it is typically harder to model dispersion effects than mean effects. The proposed inference procedure is accurate even under variable dispersion. We present the results of extensive Monte Carlo simulations where our testing strategy is contrasted to that in which the practitioner models the underlying dispersion and then performs testing inference. An empirical application that uses real (not simulated) data is also presented and discussed.  相似文献

Dependent multivariate count data occur in several research studies. These data can be modelled by a multivariate Poisson or Negative binomial distribution constructed using copulas. However, when some of the counts are inflated, that is, the number of observations in some cells are much larger than other cells, then the copula-based multivariate Poisson (or Negative binomial) distribution may not fit well and it is not an appropriate statistical model for the data. There is a need to modify or adjust the multivariate distribution to account for the inflated frequencies. In this article, we consider the situation where the frequencies of two cells are higher compared to the other cells and develop a doubly inflated multivariate Poisson distribution function using multivariate Gaussian copula. We also discuss procedures for regression on covariates for the doubly inflated multivariate count data. For illustrating the proposed methodologies, we present real data containing bivariate count observations with inflations in two cells. Several models and linear predictors with log link functions are considered, and we discuss maximum likelihood estimation to estimate unknown parameters of the models.  相似文献

A special source of difficulty in the statistical analysis is the possibility that some subjects may not have a complete observation of the response variable. Such incomplete observation of the response variable is called censoring. Censorship can occur for a variety of reasons, including limitations of measurement equipment, design of the experiment, and non-occurrence of the event of interest until the end of the study. In the presence of censoring, the dependence of the response variable on the explanatory variables can be explored through regression analysis. In this paper, we propose to examine the censorship problem in context of the class of asymmetric, i.e., we have proposed a linear regression model with censored responses based on skew scale mixtures of normal distributions. We develop a Monte Carlo EM (MCEM) algorithm to perform maximum likelihood inference of the parameters in the proposed linear censored regression models with skew scale mixtures of normal distributions. The MCEM algorithm has been discussed with an emphasis on the skew-normal, skew Student-t-normal, skew-slash and skew-contaminated normal distributions. To examine the performance of the proposed method, we present some simulation studies and analyze a real dataset.  相似文献

Semiparametric regression models with multiple covariates are commonly encountered. When there are covariates not associated with response variable, variable selection may lead to sparser models, more lucid interpretations and more accurate estimation. In this study, we adopt a sieve approach for the estimation of nonparametric covariate effects in semiparametric regression models. We adopt a two-step iterated penalization approach for variable selection. In the first step, a mixture of the Lasso and group Lasso penalties are employed to conduct the first-round variable selection and obtain the initial estimate. In the second step, a mixture of the weighted Lasso and weighted group Lasso penalties, with weights constructed using the initial estimate, are employed for variable selection. We show that the proposed iterated approach has the variable selection consistency property, even when number of unknown parameters diverges with sample size. Numerical studies, including simulation and analysis of a diabetes dataset, show satisfactory performance of the proposed approach.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we are concerned with variable selection in finite mixture of semiparametric regression models. This task consists of model selection for non parametric component and variable selection for parametric part. Thus, we encountered separate model selections for every non parametric component of each sub model. To overcome this computational burden, we introduced a class of variable selection procedures for finite mixture of semiparametric regression models using penalized approach for variable selection. It is shown that the new method is consistent for variable selection. Simulations show that the performance of proposed method is good, and it consequently improves pervious works in this area and also requires much less computing power than existing methods.  相似文献

Reduced-rank regression models proposed by Anderson [1951. Estimating linear restrictions on regression coefficients for multivariate normal distributions. Ann. Math. In this paper we combine the features of these models with another popular, seemingly unrelated regression model proposed by Zellner [1962. An efficient method of estimating seemingly unrelated regressions and tests for aggregation bias. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 57, 348–368].
